Chapter 638: Chapter 638: Can’t Find the Person
Zhong Niangyao hadn’t noticed anything odd about Lu Yichen, she sighed and continued speaking, "Even though I knew it was a strand of my residual soul, seeing it disappear and completely merge into my body still affected my mood."
Lu Yichen took a step forward, gently pulled Zhong Niangyao into his arms, and whispered, "Don’t think too much about it, many things in this world are predestined."
It was just like him and Zhong Niangyao, who happened to awaken their Divine Souls on the same day and recovered all their strength and memories.
However, what surprised and relieved him was that although Zhong Niangyao had regained her memories, she did not dwell on the past misunderstandings. For him, this was truly an unexpected joy. After regaining her memories, the heavyweight that had been on his chest also completely disappeared.
Zhong Niangyao chuckled, "Yes! Only with our memories restored are we truly ourselves."
As she spoke, a sharp light flashed in her eyes, "Of course, the grudges of the past won’t just evaporate. If there is resentment, it must be answered; if there is vengeance, it must be sought."
Thousands of years had passed, but that didn’t mean everything was truly over. The sufferings and misunderstandings she had experienced were indeed her fault—she had not trusted Lu Yichen enough. However, that did not mean that the main culprits could get away scot-free.
A chill flashed in Lu Yichen’s eyes, "Indeed, whoever is responsible must pay the price."
"Yaoyao, do you have any leads?" he asked.
Everything had happened too quickly in the past: Zhong Niangyao’s Divine Soul dissipated, leaving him in unbearable pain; he tried everything to gather her Divine Soul and sent Zhong Niangyao to be reincarnated. Afterward, he too fell into a deep slumber.
Years later, after his long slumber, he too followed Zhong Niangyao into the path of Reincarnation.
Now, thinking carefully about the events that had occurred, indeed there were too many doubts. No matter who was manipulating everything from behind the scenes, he would make that person behind the curtains pay.
"Not at the moment," Zhong Niangyao shook her head, "But anyone who could know about us, follow our movements, and even understand our temperaments to orchestrate all this must certainly be someone close to us."
"Whoever it is, they won’t be able to hide," Lu Yichen said, his body radiating chilliness and a hint of murderous intent in his eyes, "They almost drove us apart, separated us for so many years, I will never let them go."
Zhong Niangyao nodded and then looked at Lu Yichen, "Let’s not talk about this for now. Are you really planning not to return to the Nine Heavens for the time being?"
"Not returning," came Lu Yichen’s swift reply as he held Zhong Niangyao’s hand firmly, "Whenever you go back, that’s when I’ll go back."
Zhong Niangyao smiled wryly, her words teasing, "Then I really am quite lucky, aren’t I? To be able to keep the Lord of Nine Heavens by my side."
Hearing Zhong Niangyao’s words, Lu Yichen smiled, not saying anything. However, he stretched out his hand to gently pat her hair, his eyes filled with obvious affection.
Zhong Niangyao looked at Lu Yichen, her smile receding as she spoke seriously, "Yichen, let me make it clear, I’m not going to return so soon. My grandparents are still here. If I were to suddenly leave, they would definitely be heartbroken."
"Don’t worry," Lu Yichen said with a light chuckle, "Once everything here is settled, we can think about going back. However, even if we really leave, you can always come back to this small world whenever you want. When we do come back, we can just adjust the time appropriately."
"Oh right, how could I have overlooked that!" Zhong Niangyao exclaimed, her face beaming with excitement.
This was but a small world, and now they had regained their Divine Bodies, travelling to and from such a small world would be a breeze.
Watching Zhong Niangyao’s demeanor, Lu Yichen’s eyes were filled with indulgent love.
"Let’s not talk about this for now," Zhong Niangyao remembered the important issues at hand, "We should hurry up and start looking around here! Zhong Mingxin fell over here. Since he’s not dead, there must be some incredible adventure waiting for him here. Let’s hurry up and look for him!"
Lu Yichen released his Divine Sense, scouring the surrounding area for dozens of miles in an instant, but found no trace of anyone.
Drawing back his Divine Sense, he couldn’t help frowning.
"Is something the matter?" Zhong Niangyao asked curiously, "Did you find anything?"
"No," Lu Yichen shook his head, "There’s no trace of anyone at the bottom of this cliff."
"What?" A flicker of surprise crossed Zhong Niangyao’s eyes, "How is that possible?"
"Indeed, there isn’t," Lu Yichen continued, "Moreover, there’s no sign that anyone has ever lived here. Below, it’s like an entirely different world compared to above. The bottom of this cliff is indeed covered in green grass, with a suitable temperature, but there are hardly any signs of life. Not to mention humans, there are barely any animals."
"How can this be?" Zhong Niangyao looked around before saying, "Yichen, let’s go around and take a closer look! Maybe we can find something unusual."
Lu Yichen had no objections; he simply let Zhong Niangyao take his hand, and then they started walking forward.
The scenery at the bottom of this cliff was indeed delightful, but for some reason, there were very few traces of animals.
Indeed, if there were any animals, it would probably be the numerous fish in the small pond. As for other animals, their traces were almost invisible.
Zhong Niangyao couldn’t explain what was causing this strange phenomenon.
Thinking this trip was likely to be fruitless, she planned to call on Yuan Hao for further inquiries. Though she and Lu Yichen had regained their Divine Souls and Divine Bodies, their power was still limited in this small world.
Otherwise, if every deity from the Nine Heavens decided to visit, this small world would likely collapse sooner or later.
Their power was significantly constrained in this small world.
Yuan Hao was King Yan, and although he only dealt with affairs after human death, he had the Book of Life and Death, which could surely determine Zhong Mingxin’s whereabouts. She hadn’t thought of it at first, but now that they couldn’t find anyone, it suddenly came to her mind.
Just as she was about to summon help, she felt a very strange fluctuation.
Turning her head, she met Lu Yichen’s gaze.
Clearly, Lu Yichen had also felt that odd fluctuation.
"Let’s go and have a look!" Zhong Niangyao said.
