Chapter 272: All the Memories He Lost

"Remove the mark? Was she kidding me?" Nathan scoffed as he grabbed a bottle of whisky to pour into his glass. "She wasn’t even fazed when she said it..."

Nathan rolled his eyes as he quickly downed his drink in one gulp. He was about to go for more when Davin grabbed the bottle from him and poured out a glass for himself.

"Look at you, acting like you’re in a dilemma," Davin teasingly scoffed at him "I don’t get why you have to fight your feelings for her. I mean, why don’t you just touch her so you can remember everything?"

"Why are you even here?" Nathan scolded him. " Aren’t you supposed to be in the Moon Clan Territory right now?"

"What can I say? I couldn’t help but get interested in your affairs," Davin nonchalantly shrugged.

"I was worried when you quickly left like that, so I just had to follow you to see what’s happening. And boom! I actually witnessed a grand show." He chuckled, "I bet the elders bombarded you with a lot of negative comments and hate upon Raine’s arrival, not to mention her claims of being your queen."

Nathan didn’t bother to answer, simply taking a sip from his drink as he let Davin speak.

"So... what’s your plan now, Nathan?" his nephew asked. "You’re supposed to pass the throne on to Aspen soon. But things are getting complicated here."

"Not calling me Uncle this time, huh?" Nathan scoffed.

Davin chuckled, "I’m not in the mood to tease or bully you tonight."

Nathan let out a breath as he answered, "I want to wrap things up and settle everything before stepping down, Davin. I thought things would be easy, but..."

"It wasn’t, right?" Davin shrugged. "It doesn’t stop with the man dying, Nathan. We both know that. You didn’t fight for this throne simply because you want to use the Convel Society to exact your revenge against Marcus."

He then sighed, "You know your purpose. I’ve been with you long enough, Nathan. I know you want to change and deliver the Convel Society to new heights; to lead them away from its barbaric ways..."

Nathan let out a sigh. He knew that Davin was right.

"Raine will complicate things, but we both know that if we’re in her shoes, we’ll do the same thing," Davin shrugged as he added. "That Sasha won’t stop till she’s dead, and Raine wouldn’t let that woman go unscathed."

"I know, Davin. I’ll handle this eventually. It’s just that... I’m afraid of getting my memories back from her," Nathan hesitantly admitted.

"I can already feel her effect on me even without those memories, and I can already imagine the worst-case scenario happening once I remember everything."

He sighed, "At this point, I just want to wrap up things and not get distracted by my own emotions. You said it yourself, I’m irrational whenever Raine is involved."

Davin kept quiet, and Nathan heaved a deep sigh. He smiled upon recalling Raine’s words when she suddenly telepathically talked to him.

Even now, he was tempted to go back to his room and grant her request in cuddling her. If only she knew the amount of control he was exerting over him whenever she was near him. He was only just now close to snapping himself out of it.

"You look hopeless," Davin sighed. "Geez. I guess I’ll go back to the Moon Clan now than to witness how miserable and tormented you look right now."

Shaking his head, he then downed his drink in one gulp. "Ewww... Why do I even bother in drinking this useless thing..." he snorted before leaving Nathan alone.

Watching him leave, Nathan chuckled at his nephew’s words. He knew that it was his nephew’s way of comforting and consoling him.

"Thanks, I suppose..."

He drank some more, enough for him to knock himself out and have a proper sleep despite knowing that his mate was in another room. It would be a long night for him, but Nathan was determined not to give in yet.

***

A few moments later, Nathan opened his eyes, feeling another presence currently inside his room. Looking up, he frowned as he gasped, "Raine?"

The room was dark, but he couldn’t mistake his mate’s alluring scent for anything else. She didn’t say a word, and Nathan gulped when she approached his bed and comfortably settled herself on the other side.

"I can’t sleep alone," she stubbornly mumbled, a pillow already in her hands as she spoke.

"Let’s just do this. I’ll put a pillow between us so that you won’t touch me. Ughh... It’s so unfair that I’m the only one who can’t sleep so I will stay here."

Nathan froze at that instant. He inwardly cursed, thinking about why he didn’t bother locking his door. He was trapped. It would be ungentlemanly ofh im to leave now. Plus, he didn’t want Raine to feel even more dejected despite himself.

"I know you’re awake, Nathan," Raine whispered, followed by a loud sigh.

Nathan stopped himself from flinching. He could tell that she was feeling weary despite how she shut him off from her emotions as he did.

The lampshade suddenly lit on as Raine removed the pillow between them. "Sorry. I wanted to see your face, so I turned on the light," she cheekily said with a smile on her face.

Both of them were on their sides now, facing each other as a brief silence settled between them.

"Look at you, acting all unbothered and stoic," Raine let off a light scoff. "I get it, okay? I promise I won’t do that again and erase parts of your memory without asking you first. Can we reconcile now, darling? I hate dragging things out."

Nathan was speechless. He couldn’t remember anything about Raine’s personality at the moment, but her boldness right now felt so familiar to him.

He found himself just staring at her, still keeping his stoic face intact as he pondered on his next move. He was somehow curious, and he was anticipating what she would do next if he kept acting cool and unbothered.

At the nonreaction, she pouted her lips and mumbled, "This won’t do..."

To Nathan’s surprise, Raine then hovered on top of him before suddenly giving him a ravishing kiss on his lips.

’Fu*ck this!’ Nathan thought. He was way too weak to restrain himself anymore with this intense feeling burning inside of him. Raine’s lips were so heavenly that all his inhibitions and hesitations had been wiped off at that instant.

He couldn’t help himself. The control to not give up went astray as he melted into his instincts. Her lips were so voluptuous that he wanted more...

The beast in him wanted to come out, but Nathan managed to restrain himself. Before anything else, he wanted to get it back first... those memories that he once had with her...

Eventually, his hands moved, snaking around Raine’s waist while his other hand crawled towards her nape as he moved and interchanged their positions. Pinning her on the bed, he broke the kiss.

He stared into her eyes, and at that moment... all the memories he lost about her flashed through his eyes.
