Chapter 226: Temporary parting
As much as Nathan wanted to keep their fulfilling love-making session going and make Raine constantly scream out his name, her grumbling stomach alerted him of her famished state, and he wasn’t going to be too selfish to just feed her with his own seed. Pulling her to the table, they were both still naked when he sat on the chair and pulled Raine up on his lap.
"We should really get dressed," Raine murmured as she shook her head. "This is kind of awkward."
However, Nathan didn’t budge, even encircling his arms around her and cradling her like a mother who was ready to feed her baby. "I’ll keep you warm and feed you, my sweet vixen," he simply answered.
"That term of endearment is just way too long," she complained with a chuckle. "How about using something normal like Dear or something?"
"Hmm, but I like it, Sweet vixen..." Nathan simply refuted as he began serving portions of food on the plate.
Raine shrugged, shelving her complaint. Either way, it didn’t matter how Nathan chose to call her. Hearing his familiar voice, his sweet tone lovingly calling out to her was good enough for her.
As Raine waited for him to finish serving their food, her eyes darted towards the bite that she did earlier gently caressed it. She asked, "Does it hurt?’
"Just stings? But it felt good being marked by my sweet vixen," Nathan grinned with mischief. "It felt so great that I wanted you to leave bites all over my body."
At his teasing, Raine shook her head as she mumbled, "I’m serious. It’s my first time biting, so..."
"I didn’t even know that you also had fangs," Nathan curiously noted. "Fallen angels can leave marks too?" He didn’t know much about Raine’s kind, nevertheless, he was still interested to find out more. It was just that he couldn’t do it at the moment with the flurry of pressing events going on.
"Yeah, I guess I do have fangs... And this mark is the proof that I can mark people," Raine hesitantly answered. "I’ve heard about it before, but I wasn’t that interested to find out more so I often brushed it off. A while ago, I had this intense feeling of me owning you entirely. I wanted you solely for myself, so I tried marking you," she shrugged, caressing the mark between Nathan’s neck and shoulder. "And it seems that it worked well enough.".
Raine then proudly added as she continued, admiring the mark that she left on the man, "I want everyone to know that you’re mine, as well as be reminded that you already have a lifetime partner. Now, you also bear my mark, so no one will dare touch you." Raine proudly added, admiring the mark she input on Nathan.
At her declaration, Nathan chuckled, "Can I finally feel your emotions now?" It was just a guess, of course. He was just hoping that he could finally feel Raine’s emotions with her marking him like he did to her.
"I’m honestly not sure, but I think you might since our bond is stronger now, what with us having mutual marks on each other," Raine simply answered, not giving much of an explanation.
"I saw my mark on you glow earlier. It was a white glow, and it looked very beautiful," Nathan informed her as he began spoon-feeding his mate. "It was the first time I’ve even seen or heard of a glowing mark on a mate... Maybe it’s because of your angel blood? I wonder what triggered it to even glow in the first place..." Nathan added. He seemed to be in deep thought even as his arm moved to keep feeding her.
"I... can’t really answer you since I didn’t bother to learn much about my kind. I’ve heard some details from Carlos before, but I didn’t really understand most of it because I wasn’t paying attention while he was talking," Raine seriously inferred. She just wasn’t that interested in all the details of any species except for the possible capabilities and gifts she could possess that might be useful.
She shook her head in hindsight, only now understanding only why Carlos would sometimes mention how she could mark a lifetime partner for herself if she ever wanted to. That, and along with some other details that she’d sometimes just brush off or roll her eyes on. He had always mentioned that fallen angels were privileged in some way above all the other races.
"You mean Carlos the Mirage Historian?"
Raine nodded, confirming Nathan’s guess as she added, "You see, those Mirage Historians have a lot of gifts aside from seeing important scenes or events happening within the MIrage. Some of them, according to Carlos, could also possess the gift of clairvoyance."
Nathan’s eyes focused on Raine, his mind taking into account the new information he just received. Davin didn’t need to look far then... They just needed the Mirage Historian. But then, he paused, recalling how Carlos wasn’t allowed to tell even so much as a pip as long as it would involve details regarding the Mirage.
"But there’s a catch, I heard... Those gifts would be gone and they would be back to normal once someone already replaced them as a historian," Raine informed him with a smile as she finally understood what Carlos was saying all this time. Truly, he was too kind in giving her hints about her future.
At her words, Nathan nodded in understanding. It looked like he had to pay Carlos a visit soon, frequently even just to find out more about the people and things he cared for.
"What is it?" Raine asked when he noticed how Nathan was spacing out.
Nathan smiled at her, shaking his head as he simply replied, "It’s nothing. Let’s just finish eating?"
With a smile and a nod, the couple focused on their dinner, feeding each other with their own spoons as they enjoyed each other’s company. Raine waited for Nathan to talk about his plans, but none of them ever came up. Not knowing what he was thinking, she let out a quiet sigh, now knowing that she had to proceed with her own plans without informing him about it. It was a hard decision on her part, but it was something that she needed to do for the greater good.
As soon as they finished dinner, Raine pulled Nathan inside the bathroom to get cleaned up. She still had enough time, so she would just let Nathan drink the wine later once he was ready to go to bed with her. Right now, she just wanted to enjoy being close with him, making love with him as much as she could before leaving him.
Wait... Scratch that last thought... It was only a temporary parting. She would definitely find a way for the two of them to be together without all the complications spoiling their time together.
