Chapter 56: Waiting Patiently

As Cain’s desperate cries faded away, the cell room fell into an uncomfortable silence. It was like the whole place was holding its breath. No one spoke, no one moved—everyone just stood still, feeling the weight of the situation.

Thorin, clearly pissed, slammed his fist against the iron bars again. "This is bullshit!" he growled, frustration still written all over his face. His knuckles remained unscathed despite pounding the bars repeatedly—it seemed like he still had some strength left, even with those damned restriction collars holding us back. Well, not that it mattered anyway; we were still stuck here with no way out.

The others weren’t any different—I could see the same anger and frustration in their eyes. It was a bitter truth that we had no choice but to endure what was happening. Even if we did find a way to resist, we were too weakened by the restrictive collars to stand a chance. Every movement, every thought, felt sluggish, as if the collars were slowly draining us of everything we had left.

...

...

About an hour had passed...

From time to time, we could hear Cain screaming in agony nearby. It was truly sickening to realize that John was capable of such cruelty. With every scream, the terror among us grew. Everyone was visibly shaken—except for me. Although fear still clung to me, my past experiences with the aliens who had once tortured me had somewhat hardened me a little. That said, I still felt fear, but just not as much compared to Thorin and the others.

At this moment, I’m currently doing my daily quest exercises to pass time. In fact, I’ve been working out for approximately an hour now while waiting for John to be done with Cain.

Naturally, everyone was surprised by how I could still be in the mood to exercise at a time like this. Well, I couldn’t possibly tell them about my secret system and my daily quest, so I simply lied to them and said that exercising was just my way of relieving stress in a stressful situation like this.

Well, everyone has their own way of relieving stress, so they completely understood my point and stopped questioning me. After all, they should be more concerned about themselves to begin with, rather than focusing on worrying about me.

Without wasting any time, I continued doing my daily quest exercises. Time was precious, and I couldn’t afford to waste it by worrying too much.

Push-ups! Sit-ups! Squats! High Jump! Running!

...

...

A few hours later...

Finally, the sound of Cain’s screams stopped, and that was when we knew he had died for good. With that, it was only a matter of time before John would choose his next victim to torture. At this point, I didn’t care whether I was next or last, since I knew I wouldn’t die anyway. Still, I’d prefer to be the last one, so that way I could use the extra time to focus on my daily quest and exercise more.

Speaking of the devil, we suddenly heard footsteps of someone approaching:

STEP-STEP! TAP-TAP!

In an instant, we knew that John was coming.

BA-DUM! HEARTBEAT!

Fuck! The monster is coming! My heart pounded rapidly. Glancing at Thorin and the others’ expressions, it seemed they all felt the same. Terror was written all over their faces, their bodies trembling uncontrollably, and faint, quivering sounds of fear escaped from their mouths.

After a short while, John arrived, blood covering his clothes and even his mouth. What shocked us most was the blood on his lips, which left us with no doubt that John hadn’t just tortured Cain—he had also consumed Cain.

This crazy bastard! So he really is a fucking cannibal after all! Goddammit, what a fucking monster! This is beyond sick, disgusting, and evil! At this point, what John did is even worse than what the aliens did. At least the aliens only torture us for fun and don’t eat us.

CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!

Suddenly, John began clapping loudly, laughing evilly as he said, "Alright, alright! Now, let’s see who’s next! Hahaha! Are you guys excited?! Because I am!" He grinned, his eyes scanning us. "Well, to be honest, Cain tasted pretty good, but man, I think I still prefer women. They’re softer, you know? Cain was pretty rough... I guess it’s because he was pretty muscular, maybe that’s why. Ah, you know what? I think I’m really craving some girl meat now." His grin turned darker. "Very well, Sylvara, you’re next! Bahaha!"

As soon as she heard her name, Sylvara just got up and walked toward John, like she didn’t think twice about it. It was clear she had accepted her fate or whatever was coming, unlike Cain, who resisted until the end.

"Wow! You’re not scared of death at all, huh? Interesting. Well, nevermind because actually that’s kinda boring you know... since I sorta prefer my food to struggle and scream more. But oh well, it’s whatever. Food is food, regardless," John said, his expression tinged with disappointment.

With those words, John turned his gaze to the two undead goblins standing nearby. His tone shifted, firm but measured, as he issued his command. "Alright, grab Sylvara and take her to the other room now! Ah, please make sure to be gentle, I don’t want my food to be damaged along the way."

Immediately, the two undead goblins nodded their heads in unison, their movements stiff but quick, before grabbing Sylvara gently and dragging her out of the cell room. Once again, the rest of us stood in tense silence, watching helplessly as Sylvara was taken away.

Surprisingly, everyone was so quiet. No one dared to speak up against John, let alone say anything about his messed-up behavior. Even Thorin, the mighty warrior, was cowering in the corner, visibly shaking. It was obvious he was scared out of his mind after what had happened to Cain. The fear in his eyes said it all—he was extremely terrified of John, just like the rest of us.

...

...

A week later...

At this point, everyone else was already dead, leaving me the only one left behind. I’m not sure why John didn’t pick me first and chose the others instead, but my guess is that it’s probably because I’m the weakest one here—maybe I stood out less. Well, who knows? In any case, I knew that it was about time John would come here and get me soon.

Am I nervous? Absolutely. But I think I’m ready. I don’t know how many times I’ll have to die before I’ll grow strong enough to defeat John, but either way, I’m not running away. I’m going to face this until the end.

Alright, bring it on, John! I’m ready for your torturing session! Let’s see what you’ve got!
