Chapter 111: Humanoid Grasshoppers

THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!

RUMBLE!

The sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the silence, each step growing louder and closer. My heart skipped a beat as I realized someone was coming.

No, hold on! Wait... Now that I listened closely, it didn’t sound like just a single set of footsteps. There were multiple—overlapping, heavy, and relentless. This wasn’t just someone approaching. This was a group, moving together, closing in fast.

Then a sudden realization hit me—wait, don’t tell me the giants are heading this way?! Nevermind, fuck it! I’ll hide for now and observe from a safe distance. I needed to check their levels first before recklessly picking a fight. Without wasting a second, I stopped what I was doing, and frantically scanned my surroundings for a secure spot to hide.

After a brief moment of scanning my surroundings, I finally spotted a good spot to hide.

JUMP!

Without hesitation, I jumped toward the towering ceiling, aiming for a corner where I could brace myself against both walls and push myself up.

Not long after, just as I had expected, a group of giants entered the grand kitchen. The moment I saw them, my mind went blank, and I couldn’t help but think: What the hell are these creatures?

They were unlike anything I’d ever seen. Standing at least 15 feet tall, each of them had a physique that screamed raw power—muscular and imposing.

If I had to describe how they looked, I’d say they resembled colossal grasshoppers—humanoid grasshoppers, to be exact. They had long, powerful limbs and features that seemed completely out of place in any world I knew.

However, as intimidating as they were, it wasn’t just their size or strength that stood out—it was their grotesque appearance. Their rough, insect-like faces were downright hideous. Yuck! Easily one of the ugliest things I’ve ever seen in my entire life. If I had to put it bluntly, I would say that they were ugly as fuck.

Ugh, just looking at their faces made me lowkey wanna punch them hard and send them straight to oblivion. Seriously, these ugly as hell monsters shouldn’t even exist. Their faces alone were enough to ruin my mood.

LEVEL SCAN!

I activated my passive skill and checked their levels right away.

[Level: 999 (SSSSS-Rank)]

What the fuck is this? Are you kidding me? How the hell did Ragnar even survive here this whole time? Wait, hold on—how the hell did Ragnar become the final boss monster for this 5th floor in the first place? Seriously, now that I think about it, none of this makes sense.

If these monsters are stronger than Ragnar, then there’s no way Ragnar should be the final boss. Hell, with their size and power, these Humanoid Grasshoppers should be the ones taking that boss monster role instead.

After killing so many monsters over the years, I’m only Level 522 (SSS-Rank), but my stats are probably closer to SSSS-Rank, if I’m not mistaken. Either way, I can’t believe there’s such a massive level gap between me and these Humanoid Grasshoppers.

Suddenly, a surprised system notification appeared:

Ding!

[You have triggered a new Hidden Side Quest by forcibly leaving Ragnar’s throne room.]

[Warning! You have broken the rules! You weren’t supposed to leave the boss room. Ragnar was supposed to defeat you, or you were supposed to defeat him in order to complete the final quest and leave the Tower of Self. However, due to Infinite Regeneration skill, you were unable to complete the quest. You managed to leave the throne room because Ragnar’s temporary death caused the magic barrier to collapse, granting you an unexpected escape.]

[Hidden Side Quest (Optional): Defeat all the Humanoid-Grasshoppers within this vast castle. If you wish to abandon the Hidden Side Quest, simply return to Ragnar’s throne room and stay there.]

I see now. I was supposed to defeat Ragnar and then be done with it—leave this world. That explains why I was able to destroy the throne room door and escape so easily earlier. Ragnar’s temporary death caused the magic barrier to collapse, allowing me to escape without any trouble.

Now that I think about it, that magic barrier in Ragnar’s throne room might’ve been the reason why no monsters could enter. It was as if the barrier itself actively prevented any monsters from crossing into it.

It wasn’t just an ordinary barrier—it felt like it served a much bigger purpose, almost as if Ragnar’s throne room was a personal, isolated world within this massive castle, completely cut off from the outside world.

Welp, anyway, damn this grand kitchen. I could see the bright sunlight pouring in through the towering windows, flooding the room with light and making everything painfully visible. The brightness only made it harder to hide, exposing every detail of this space.

I couldn’t help but feel a little nervous. I didn’t know how much longer I could stay out of sight. With the sunlight pouring into every corner, it felt like I was just waiting to be discovered. The longer I stayed, the stronger the sense that it wouldn’t be long before they would find me.

Honestly speaking, I do want to give it a try and fight them right now, but the problem is, if I die now, I have no idea what would happen to Ragnar’s body. I mean, I still had so much left to do with him. There were so many experiments I wanted to try—trial and error, until I figured out what’s the best method to kill someone with such a powerful regeneration ability.

It was then, at this very moment, that it hit me—oh, fuck! I completely forgot to hide Ragnar’s body! How could I have been so stupid and made such a silly mistake?! Dammit! At this rate, there was no way those Humanoid Grasshoppers wouldn’t find the gigantic cooking pot with Ragnar’s body in it. If they saw it, I’m definitely screwed!

Holy fuck!

Oh, wait a minute! If they could help me kill Ragnar, wouldn’t that be a good thing?! Goddamn, I’m a genius! Hahaha! Of course, I had no idea if that would actually work, but there was no harm in letting these monsters try and see if they could kill Ragnar, right? I mean, if it worked, great. If it didn’t, I’d still lose nothing—it was worth a shot either way.

I couldn’t help but grin. Bahaha! The thought of it made me thrilled. I was eager to see how this whole thing would play out.
