Chapter 120 - 118_3
Chapter 120: Chapter 118_3
It was clear who had arranged it.
Her fingers traced across the desk’s surface, at least this place was still clean.
On her first day, aside from getting familiar with the situation, she had nothing else major to do. Now, as the end of the workday approached, she finished her remaining small tasks and left.
On her drive back to Huqing District, her phone suddenly rang in her pocket.
Upon answering, a man’s voice she hadn’t heard in a long time came through her ear, low and lazy, tinged with a faint smile and a slight rasp.
"I’ve been waiting in Auntie’s hospital room for a long time, Little Brother would rather tell Jiang Gujun he was back than tell me. Am I that annoying?"
At the end, his voice dropped low, the smile vanished, turning into an indescribable grievance.
Rong Zhi pressed her lips together in silence.
The traffic light ahead turned red; she put on her Bluetooth headset and then spoke in a calm tone: "No."
"Then why ignore me?"
"Are you interrogating me?"
"No," Bai Su tsked lightly, "Little Brother vanished for so many days, can’t I worry a bit?"
Rong Zhi: "..."
She pressed the accelerator to start the car, her voice indifferent, "I’m driving, hanging up."
With that, she coldly and mercilessly hung up the phone.
Back at Huqing District, it was Friday, the two kids were at school. After showering and changing, Rong Zhi went into her separated small laboratory to continue researching Reagent No. 1.
She discovered from the blood extracted from Yuan Xiyao that it was indeed the same as the H-01 injected into He Songzhi. In other words, He Songzhi had Reagent No. 3 injected.
But Reagent No. 3 was destroyed during the lab explosion.
However, Reagent No. 1 should be considered as an upgrade of Reagent No. 3, although the chemical composition might be a bit different, she could attempt to develop Reagent No. 3 following the S Research Institute’s direction.
She worked on it until evening, when Jiang Gujun brought Rong Jiazze home. The little one spotted his brother’s shoes at the doorway, noticed Rong Zhi wasn’t in the living room, and immediately ran to the lab door, tapping lightly, "Brother, is it you back?"
After a long pause, a response came from inside the lab, then the door opened. Rong Zhi, who was taking off her glasses, stood at the door, looking down at the little one in front of her.
Rong Jiazze’s face lit up with joy; he reached out to hug her leg, only to be stopped by a slightly cool fingertip on his forehead. With a faint voice, the young man said, "Dirty."
Her body was covered in medication, as well as many other substances, which were hard to wash out.
Rong Jiazze rubbed his forehead, looked up with a smile, "Then I’ll wait until Brother finishes washing."
Rong Zhi: "Hm."
She removed the lab coat and hung it on her arm, about to toss it into the washing machine, when she keenly sensed something was off as she passed through the living room. She slightly turned her head and suddenly met a pair of charming, watery peach blossom eyes. The owner of these eyes made eye contact with her for a few seconds, then curled his lips into a casual, carefree smile.
"...Rong Jiazze."
"Hey Brother."
Rong Jiazze ran out of the kitchen, first glancing at Rong Zhi, then following her gaze to see Bai Su, and suddenly realized, "I forgot, Brother Su has a cold. I remember we have some medicine at home; I wanted to give him some."
Rong Zhi retracted her gaze, nodded.
She didn’t ask why Bai Su had caught a cold, nor did she say where the medicine was, since Rong Jiazze knew.
The man’s gaze remained fixed on her, following her every step as if to burn a hole through her with his eyes.
Rong Zhi washed the clothes with an impassive face, bathed, and didn’t utter a word from start to finish.
When she came out, Jiang Gujun handed over the prepared cold medicine to Bai Su. The latter pursed his lips, looking up at the youth, but did not take the medicine, stubbornly seeming to say that unless the youth spoke, he wouldn’t drink it.
Rong Zhi raised an eyebrow, unaffected, and turned into the kitchen.
-
"Mr. Su, looking at it like this won’t help. Someone with Mr. Rong’s personality won’t buy into your act." Jiang Gujun placed the cup down helplessly, rubbing his aching temples.
Rong Jiazze placed a cat pillow into Bai Su’s hands, "Brother Su, I don’t know what happened between you and Brother, but health is important. You should take the medicine."
Bai Su squeezed the soft pillow, his peach blossom eyes narrowing deeply, not wanting to speak. However, his throat tickled, and he suddenly coughed against his lips.
Recently, the temperature in Beijing has fluctuated greatly. He was usually in good health, but after not getting any news from Rong Zhi, he stayed up all night on the balcony in the cold wind, and the next day developed a glorious cold.
This illness lasted for two days.
He even thought that if he still hadn’t recovered by the time Little Brother returned, he could use it to gain some pity.
Unfortunately, Little Brother didn’t buy his act at all.
