Chapter 106: Chapter 106
School started on Monday.
As soon as Rong Zhi arrived at the classroom, she was surrounded by Ying Hengyu and several others asking all sorts of questions. She rubbed her forehead and nodded patiently, only getting a moment of peace when the teacher came to start class.
When she looked up, she was met with Teacher Liu’s sneer.
Rong Zhi: "..."
It’s all a misunderstanding.
As the first class ended, Ying Hengyu eagerly began to speak, but was interrupted by a student calling out from the front: "Rong Zhi, someone is looking for you!"
Ying Hengyu turned his head and spotted the same young girl from last time. He raised an eyebrow and clicked his tongue in impatience, "Alright, alright, brother, you sure have a lot of admirers, go on, go on."
Rong Zhi glanced up and walked out of the classroom.
Chi Cha looked at her with a bright smile, "Mr. Zhou is looking for you; he asked you to go to the office."
Zhou Zhongming looking for her?
Rong Zhi nodded, "Okay, thank you."
Rong Zhi often walked the road to the math office lately, and when passing other offices, several teachers stopped to greet her, to which she politely nodded and responded.
Standing in front of the office door, Rong Zhi raised a hand to knock, and her gaze went inside to see Zhou Zhongming working alone in the office.
He was hunched over, quite focused, though he had little hair blowing messily in the wind coming through the wide-open window.
"Mr. Zhou."
"You are here, come in."
Zhou Zhongming looked up, his eyes paused slightly, then became complex.
This was the first time he stood from the perspective of an ordinary person to look at Rong Zhi.
Standing straight at the door, not subservient but also not speaking further after the initial greeting, she held a serene, untamed countenance, with eyes that delineated a touch of playful red, yet remained cold.
Probably because of the grades as backing, Zhou Zhongming’s impression on her shifted slightly; no matter how he looked, he couldn’t see her as someone from the countryside.
And the more he looked, the more Zhou Zhongming regretted.
The youth walked up to him, her gaze calm.
Zhou Zhongming set his pen down, removed his glasses, and looked at her, "You did very well in this month’s exam."
"Mm." Rong Zhi nodded, the thanking words were unsuitable for her to say to Zhou Zhongming.
Zhou Zhongming wasn’t surprised by her indifference, pressing his lips, he said in a somber tone, "I called you here to explain the previous misunderstandings."
As soon as the words fell, the surroundings were so quiet that Zhou Zhongming could hear his own heartbeat, like a drum.
Rong Zhi smirked silently, coolly staring at Zhou Zhongming, "Is the teacher apologizing to me?"
Zhou Zhongming’s expression was somewhat strained, but he bit his lip and nodded, "Yes."
Rong Zhi shook her head: "No need."
He didn’t apologize when it was necessary; since time has passed, she doesn’t need it now.
Upon finishing, she casually gestured with her hand and turned to leave the office.
Behind.
Zhou Zhongming nearly snapped his glasses.
Has he humbled himself to apologize to a student? Why is Rong Zhi unappreciative?!
...
After the exams, the seniors once again entered an intense review phase; each day, it was nothing but classes, and they also had to review at home at night.
At home, Rong Zhi saw less and less of Rong Fengmian. She wasn’t anxious, first discussing with He Songzhi to have Zhao Hecheng help with Rong Fengmian.
He Songzhi wanted to take care of Rong Fengmian, but she couldn’t be too far from the hospital for now; she agreed with Rong Zhi’s proposal.
"Darling, it’s hard on you, having to go to school and take care of us." He Songzhi gently stroked Rong Zhi’s hand.
Rong Zhi tucked her blanket properly, "If you recover well, I won’t be tired."
He Songzhi’s eyes softened, "Mom will."
Lately, it’s been cold, and everyone in the family needs more clothes. With Rong Zhi busy researching H-01 and attending classes, she hardly had time, so she asked Aunt Xue to help buy them.
Aunt Xue nodded and took the card handed by Rong Zhi, "So, Miss Rong, do you need anything?"
After sending the experimental results to Fu Liang, Rong Zhi waved her hand, "No need."
She had enough clothes to wear, adding layers for cold weather hardly mattered to her.
Aunt Xue responded and left.
On Friday evening, Rong Fangjun called to ask if Rong Zhi had packed.
While swirling the reagent in her hand and watching the liquid adhere to the walls, she puckered her lips slightly and casually set it on the rack behind her.
She cleaned her hands, picked up her phone, leaned lazily against the side of the rack, looked down at her hands, and casually responded.»
Yet another failure.
"Grandpa sent you the address and attire, it’s at the Diberia Hotel, or are you coming to the old house for us to go together?"
Rong Zhi raised her eyes, brows soft and distant, "No need, I’ll go there myself."
Rong Fangjun laughed, "Alright, remember to be there."
"Mm."
After hanging up the phone, Rong Zhi tossed the device aside and rubbed her forehead, exhaling, a layer of cold agitation spread through her heart.
He Songzhi was spacing out more frequently; she needed to develop the antidote quickly.
The doorbell rang, and Rong Zhi opened the door to retrieve a package. Upon opening the box, she found a deep black bespoke suit lying inside.
...
At eight in the evening, with the night fallen, the majestic Diberia Hotel twelfth-floor lobby was resplendent.
The dazzling crystal chandeliers hung low, casting a mesmerizing glow across the hall as a vintage gramophone spun softly in a corner.
Elegant attendants led the way at the front; prominent families and business elites with collaborations with the Rong Family were gathered in the lobby, clad in flowing dresses and exchanging laughter with glasses raised.
Ying Hengyu discovered Shen Luoluo at a long table, where she was busy stuffing cake into her mouth.
"Can’t you do something other than eat?" Ying Hengyu crossed his arms, disdainfully gazing at her.
Shen Luoluo rolled her eyes, arduously swallowing the cake before speaking, "Does it concern you?"
"Heh," Ying Hengyu tossed a gummy into his mouth, "Be careful lest you burst your dress. Third Brother won’t have clothes for you to change into."
Shen Luoluo ignored him.
Ying Hengyu recalled another matter, leisurely asking her, "I heard from your brother that you’ve decided to study abroad? Cello?"
Between the three families in Beijing, their private interactions weren’t as publicly precarious as they seemed; Ying Hengyu and Shen Junze had quite a good relationship.
Shen Luoluo nodded, "Yeah, yeah, Third Brother secured the opportunity for me, and my brother said studying abroad would be advantageous, so I want to give it a try."
"Your brother really spoils you."
Shen Luoluo proudly puffed her chest, "Because I’m the youngest girl in my family!"
This is the confidence that comes from being loved overwhelmingly.
During their conversation, two young members of the Rong Family and the housekeeper had arrived.
Rong Meng was arm-in-arm with Rong Qichuo, navigating through the guests and exchanging greetings.
Yet, the main figure, Rong Zhi, was absent.
Shen Luoluo wondered, "Where is Third Brother?"
Ying Hengyu took out his phone, "Let me ask."
Just then, Lu Zhao’s face broke into a smile, as he headed toward the entrance.
Everyone’s attention turned with him.
The thud of leather shoes on marble floor sounded.
A streak of dark appeared before their sight.
The black bespoke suit highlighted the youth’s straight, slender frame, the buttons done up to the top, with long, loose hair tied into a small tuft, his exquisite, untamed eyebrows overly aloof, an aura astonishingly remote.
"Sorry, I’m late."
The words were stated unhurriedly, the voice somewhat lazy, slightly husky, uniquely pleasant and recognizable.
The banquet hall fell into a peculiar silence; everyone looked at this black figure, with expressions differing on their faces.
Is this Rong Zhi?
The child lost for eighteen years? But why doesn’t he look like the rumors?
