Chapter 102: Chapter 102
The night grew deeper.
People from the RUSH Team wanted to invite Rong Zhi for a meal.
Rong Zhi waved her hand, "We’ll talk when I have time."
Qin Mingchao seemed disappointed, "Well, Third Young Master, come by and play whenever you have time; the RUSH Team is always open to you."
Since Rong Zhi was He Songzhi’s third brother, and they didn’t share He Songzhi’s status, they dared not try to forge connections. They could only elevate his status graciously, as after all, he saved their team from a dire situation; calling him Third Young Master was perfectly fine.
They were not like Lin Shuangniao, who was even resented for calling someone grandpa.
Rong Zhi looked down at her phone; Rong Fangjun sent her a message, telling her to visit the Rong Family tomorrow.
"Hmm," she replied to the message while saying, "Okay, bye-bye."
Qin Mingchao: "See you next time, Third Young Master!"
...
Just as Rong Zhi and Ying Yunlin got into the car, her phone rang.
She picked it up, and Bai Su’s low, languid voice immediately echoed on the other end, "Where is my little one now? Couldn’t find you in Auntie’s ward, and without you bringing me food, even the midnight snacks taste bad."
Rong Zhi put her phone aside and connected her Bluetooth headset, "Watching the race outside, are you still at the hospital?"
"I’ve been waiting all along for my little one to come back." Bai Su bit the words ’little one’ gently.
Rong Zhi: "..."
She raised her eyes to meet Ying Yunlin’s smiling gaze beside her.
Oh, the Bluetooth disconnected.
Rong Zhi paused, calmly turned her head, and stepped on the gas, "Understood, I’ll come after dropping Ying Er at the hotel."
Bai Su’s voice rose slightly, "Alright, I’ll leave some crayfish for little brother."
He didn’t hang up the phone, and Rong Zhi reconnected the Bluetooth. Only when she had dropped Ying Yunlin at the hotel, did he glance at her and chuckle lightly, "At your age, it’s time to experience a romance."
Rong Zhi: "Not interested."
Ying Yunlin’s smile didn’t fade, "But I see someone’s offensive is quite fierce, no worries, feel free to give it a try. Brother will back you up."
Rong Zhi closed the car door with one foot, isolating all his words outside.
Ying Yunlin stood in place, watched the car with an overly arrogant license plate drive away, squinted slightly, and pulled out his phone to call Old Daddy Ying.
Old Daddy Ying’s tone was quite grave, "Did you find out anything about that boy?"
"Not yet."
Old Daddy Ying pondered for a while, "Find someone to look into it, don’t let Little Nine get the short end of the stick."
Ying Yunlin clicked his tongue lightly in his heart, usually it’s only those suffering at Rong Zhi’s hands; when did it ever come to her getting the short end of the stick? Daddy was just worrying unnecessarily.
However, he still agreed obediently.
...
As Rong Zhi opened the ward door, she saw Jiang Gujun and He Songzhi, head to head, studying something next to the bed.
He Songzhi turned around when hearing her, "Little one, come look; Gujun bought me a new game."
Rong Zhi’s gaze fell to the game console in He Songzhi’s hand, then followed her movements to look at the puzzle game on the opposite screen, then nodded, "Thank you, Mr. Jiang."
"No need to be so formal, just call me Jiang Gujun. Moreover, this game was bought with Mr. Su’s money; thank him instead." Jiang Gujun didn’t attempt to take credit.
Rong Zhi glanced to the side.
Bai Su smiled and pushed the midnight snacks towards her seat.
Rong Zhi pursed her lips.
The only presentable thing she had was this somewhat pleasant-looking face; what did Bai Su see in her? Surely he couldn’t be that shallow?
Seeing the youth furrow her brows deep in thought, Bai Su sensibly refrained from interrupting.
However...
"The beef noodles are getting cold."
Rong Zhi suddenly snapped out of her thoughts.
She sat down and opened the chopsticks, lowered her head, and took a bite of the noodles. Her fox-like eyes opened slightly; the taste was a bit familiar.
It was from the place she and Bai Su went for a meal after He Songzhi woke up; she disliked cilantro, and there wasn’t a single piece of it in the bowl.
She rubbed the bowl, paused, then turned to Bai Su, "Thank you."
Bai Su leaned back, resting his chin lazily, having mentioned hunger earlier but not eating; his slightly curved peach blossom eyes focused on Rong Zhi, smiling both warmly and whimsically, "You’re welcome."
Rong Zhi said no more and continued eating the noodles.
After He Songzhi rested at night, Bai Su and Jiang Gujun bid farewell; Rong Zhi escorted them to the elevator.
It took some time for the elevator to come up from the first floor; Bai Su glanced at the display screen, suddenly said, "I noticed Rong Fengmian seemed out of sorts today, even Auntie questioned him, and he was still in a daze; what happened to him?"
"He even ignored my mom?" Rong Zhi furrowed her brows.
"It’s not ignoring; it’s frequently zoning out."
Rong Zhi nodded, "I understand."
It was worse than she had thought. Rong Fengmian had never exhibited such behavior before; even if they were in a cold war, he wouldn’t ignore He Songzhi.
Seeing the youth understand, Bai Su didn’t speak again. When the elevator arrived at the sixteenth floor, before entering, Bai Su swiftly poked the youth in the face, then quickly pulled back and gently rubbed his hand against his side.
Rong Zhi glared at him; Jiang Gujun gave a light cough to save Mr. Su’s dignity, "See you next time, Mr. Rong."
...
The next morning, Rong Zhi returned to the Rong Family’s old residence.
She messaged Rong Fengmian, hoping to talk after she’d returned, but as she arrived at the Rong Family’s old residence, Rong Fengmian still hadn’t replied.
He was determined to maintain the cold war with her.
Rong Zhi couldn’t help but frown.
The scenery in the courtyard was similar to when she first came to Beijing; the old man grew plants that thrived in winter, and with the servants’ care, it looked almost like spring.
The hall seemed quite lively; just as Rong Zhi approached, she heard the old man’s hearty laughter, provoked by Rong Meng. She paused slightly, not really wanting to go in.
It wasn’t that she disliked the Rong Family, but every meeting with them invariably ended in arguments—it was quite tedious.
In the presence of the old man, they had to put on a show; the Rong Family might not be tired, but she was.
But clearly, the heavens had not listened to her inner voice.
Lu Zhao had received Rong Fangjun’s instruction to check if Rong Zhi had arrived, and just as he stepped out, he saw the youth standing under the veranda.
"Third Young Master!"
As soon as the words were spoken, the sound by Rong Zhi’s ear immediately became quieter.
She nodded slightly, "Housekeeper Lu."
Unable to hide, Rong Zhi entered with a detached expression.
Inside the hall, Rong Xian’an was sitting beside Rong Fangjun, sipping tea. As someone entered, he glanced up from the tea cup’s periphery and uttered softly, "You’ve arrived."
This reaction was quite strange.
Rong Zhi thought that after moving last time, Rong Xian’an wouldn’t acknowledge her, but he surprisingly took the initiative to greet her, his tone quite calm.
Yet she didn’t feel like responding to him, nodded as a response, and took a seat furthest from the four Rong Family members.
Ying Man frowned in annoyance but had just received a warning from the old man, so refrained from speaking.
Rong Meng hesitated, then asked softly, "Little Zhi, have you been doing well at school recently? You seem a bit thinner."
Rong Qichuo drank tea, not giving Rong Zhi as much as a glance, said coldly, "What’s the point of worrying about him? It was his choice to move out and live elsewhere. And who knows if he’s really staying at school, or at some random person’s place."
The Rong Family members who knew the inside story remained silent.
Rong Meng pursed her lips and sighed, "Brother, you can’t say that. Little Zhi is a member of the Rong Family; how could he stay at someone else’s house?"
"Enough!"
Rong Fangjun tapped his cane, making dull thuds, and spoke gravely, "Little Zhi has discussed his living arrangements with me before. Do not bring it up again. This time, gathering at the old house is not for you all to argue."
