The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse
Chapter 586 - 579: Begging for Death but Can’t Die

Chapter 586: Chapter 579: Begging for Death but Can’t Die

It had been ten days, an entire ten days, during which Gao Yuan had endured unimaginable pain, yet his physical condition had been improving rapidly.

Gao Yuan’s body no longer bled; his organs were all stable. Although his burnt skin still looked terrifying, beneath the dead flesh, new tissue was growing quickly.

No one envied Gao Yuan’s superhuman strength and speed anymore. Whenever they thought of his abilities, those who knew Gao Yuan felt not envy but fear, as well as boundless admiration for him.

In reality, Gao Yuan was not as strong as they imagined, nor was his will as resilient, because if Gao Yuan could have ended his own life, he would have done so long ago.

Gao Yuan’s hearing had recovered. He didn’t know when he was suddenly able to hear again; amidst the extreme pain, he had ignored all external sounds.

But now, the pain was subsiding. Through his long struggle with pain, Gao Yuan had grown accustomed to it; his nerves were either more resilient or had gone numb.

Then, today, for the first time, Gao Yuan opened his eyes. The eyelids, very fragile yet growing back faster than before, had regrown on his pitch-dark face.

And his initially white-scorched eyeballs were gradually regaining their luster.

Gao Yuan’s eyes had been seriously damaged. Then, Andy Ho had brought in the best ophthalmologist who, using surgery, had repaired Gao Yuan’s severely damaged eyes. Therefore, Gao Yuan’s eyes hadn’t regrown, but it was almost the same.

Andy Ho could judge any changes in Gao Yuan’s bodily reactions through daily injections. When the needles he used became more normal, and this time when he entered the room and Gao Yuan’s muscles immediately relaxed, allowing him to complete the injection smoothly, he knew there had been a change in Gao Yuan.

"If you can hear me, just move your index finger a little."

Gao Yuan moved both of his index fingers slightly, and seeing Gao Yuan’s movement, Andy Ho, dressed in a protective suit and wearing goggles, didn’t know why, but tears immediately blurred his vision.

Having performed countless surgeries and saved numerous lives in his career, Andy Ho suddenly felt a sense of exhaustion. That was the exhaustion caused by the first release of tension after a long period of extreme stress and anxiety.

"Can you speak? If you think you can, move your finger, and we can give it a try."

Gao Yuan’s fingers moved slightly again.

Andy Ho took a deep breath, then spoke softly, "Gao, you are, in my...lifetime, the most... welcome back. Now I’ll start removing the fixation from your mouth. Don’t rush to speak, and if you’re in too much pain, try not to cry out too violently, okay?"

After finishing, Andy Ho took another breath, then spoke through the ward’s intercom, "He’s awake. We’re now removing his gastric tube. I believe his body has recovered enough for self-feeding. Ah, this is really wonderful."

The steel rings that had been propping open his teeth and even his throat were removed. These were not medical devices intended for humans, but they had been used on Gao Yuan.

Accompanied by a bit of nausea and a gagging sensation, Gao Yuan’s mouth finally closed. Then he moved his tongue, feeling that his oral cavity could indeed move freely, and with a hoarse, almost unintelligible voice, Gao Yuan said, "I’m...very...itchy..."

Andy Ho placed his hand on his forehead, then, unable to hide the quiver in his voice, said, "But you’ve survived! Buddy, you’re alive."

"Eyes, open...I...look."

Andy Ho sighed, carefully lifted several layers of gauze, then spoke softly, "Do you feel light?"

"Yes."

"Very good, fantastic! You can’t see right now because your eyes still need protection and must slowly adapt to the brightness. Your eyes are too fragile; we thought for a time that they might never recover. This is really too wonderful!"

Someone was knocking on the glass, and Gao Yuan heard it, then he heard Andy Ho say, "Come in, you can come in. He’s in good condition now, no, he’s in excellent condition, really excellent!"

Soon, Gao Yuan listened to Xinghe’s gentle voice saying, "Welcome back. I knew you could do it. Ever since you withstood the first robotic injection without any protection, I knew you could endure any pain. I knew you could."

Gao Yuan sighed softly, then he just didn’t know what to say.

His mind was in chaos, Gao Yuan couldn’t even remember why he had ended up in this situation.

Andy Ho said, "I can remove the shackle from your head, um, but you have to promise not to move rashly. Can you promise that?"

With a hoarse voice, Gao Yuan replied, "Yes."

Sounds of metal clashing echoed repeatedly, then Andy Ho said in a low voice, "Okay, it’s done."

Gao Yuan tried moving his head, realizing it had been restrained, but now, at least he could move his head.

This slight freedom also made Gao Yuan feel infinitely wonderful.

"You guys really should... um, thank you."

His speech getting smoother, Gao Yuan wanted to say you guys really should let me die, but halfway through, he changed his mind.

Gao Yuan felt someone holding his head, then he heard Xinghe whispering in his ear, "I’m so glad you’re alive. I know you’re in pain, but the fact that you’re alive makes me really happy, a happiness I have never experienced in my long life. And now I know what happiness feels like..."

Xinghe was crying, and Gao Yuan whispered, "It’s okay, don’t cry, no, if you want to cry, just cry..."

Gao Yuan felt that the suffering he had endured was worth it. He let out a gentle sigh, but just then, it was as if an itch originating from his bone marrow was spreading throughout his body.

Gao Yuan wanted to scream, but he bit his lip forcefully instead. Seeing Gao Yuan’s reaction, Andy Ho immediately asked, "What’s wrong? How do you feel now?"

"Itchy! Unbearable!"

After struggling to finish speaking, Gao Yuan immediately implored with what willpower he had left, "Seal my mouth, quickly! I can’t hold back any longer!"

Xinghe was pushed aside by Andy Ho, and then with a look of panic, she watched as Andy Ho stuffed the steel ring he had just taken out back into Gao Yuan’s mouth to prevent him from biting off his own tongue or teeth.

Then, Andy Ho refixed the steel rings back onto Gao Yuan’s head, and on a bed made of steel, Gao Yuan was once again restrained like a mummy.

Xinghe looked at Andy Ho who expressed helplessly, "You might not know or have never tried it, but many people feel an unbearable itch when their wounds are healing, and for him... it will only be more intense."

Indeed, right after Gao Yuan felt that the pain was bearable, he almost immediately had to face the torment of unbearable itching.

Gao Yuan found the itching even more unbearable than pain, to the extent that he began to miss the feeling of pain.

Once again, it was a different sensation, but the same excruciating experience, and Gao Yuan couldn’t even pass out.

To bear the crown, one must shoulder the weight. Being a superhero is glorious, but not everyone can withstand the price of being one, because it is far more terrifying than death, a pain beyond pain.
