The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse
Chapter 554 - 547: Free Attack

Chapter 554: Chapter 547: Free Attack

The world had become absurd, or perhaps it had always been absurd, not just unrecognizably so after the arrival of the Aliens.

Four people emerged from a helicopter that shouldn’t have been there, then two fully-armed individuals pointed their guns at him, at someone who should have been a fellow Sanitation Worker... at him.

Murphy felt the world had become entirely foreign to him, everything had become strange and absurd.

Murphy didn’t react at all; he let two Guards grab his arms and twist them behind his back, causing pain in his arms, but Murphy was experiencing such a strong psychological shock at the moment that he didn’t find it surprising to have his arms twisted and cuffed behind him.

"Larry! I am a member of the Order of the Temple Knights, I am an Elder Candidate for the Elder Council, and now you’re calling me a traitor? You’re letting a Graycloak take over my position?"

As Murphy was being pushed away, he couldn’t help but twist his head in utter astonishment and said to Larry, "You have no right to do this! You have no right to dismiss me from my position!"

Larry waved his hand dismissively and calmly said, "This is the decision of the Elder Council."

"Hold on, please wait. I think it’s a bit hasty to determine that Mr. Murphy is a traitor at this moment."

The Thompson with gold-rimmed glasses spoke up, still with a confident smile and a gentle tone, stopping Murphy from being taken away as a traitor.

But Murphy would never thank Thompson because Thompson was a Graycloak, and in Murphy’s eyes, all Graycloaks were damned heretics, sinister and cunning bastards.

Moreover, Thompson had waited until after he had been handcuffed to speak out, so Murphy didn’t think Thompson was trying to say anything good on his behalf; he merely wanted to humiliate him.

Thompson didn’t use many words; he stepped forward and said to the drone operators who were already stunned, "What data link are you using?"

"Link-16 data link, sir."

"Good, it’s compatible with the MP-CDL data link. There’s an EA6B Prowler Electronic Warfare Aircraft in the air right now, and your task is to establish contact with the Prowler immediately, otherwise all drones will lose control."

The drone command leader stood dumbfounded for a moment, then he stammered, "I haven’t received any transmission requests outside of the drones."

"That was before, now, share data with any platform that you can establish contact with immediately, manual operation, please be as quick as possible."

Data links are usually automatically connected. All subsystems that belong to the same data link relay their data back to a processing platform, such as an early-warning aircraft, which then processes and coordinates the cooperation between various subsystems.

For example, a recon plane sends back data, the early-warning aircraft transfers the data to attack planes, as well as ground artillery positions or a naval ship, and then, acting as the brain, the early-warning aircraft can choose to have attack planes launch air-to-ground missiles, order ground artillery to bombard coordinates, or instruct a naval ship to fire a cruise missile.

This is the concept of modern C4I, namely Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence. The data link is the channel to accomplish C4I.

And now, or rather before the arrival of the Aliens, human warfare had already entered the C4ISR era, which is

It included a system comprising command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.

After the Serpent People arrived, all human systems related to war failed to function; however, Thompson’s arrival by helicopter also revived the C4ISR system, at least in part.

Therefore, the drone operator was thrilled, feeling as if he had returned to the past, to an era where with a few keystrokes, he could destroy any target.

"We are now linked into the MP-CDL tactical data link, sir."

Accessing the data link, or in other words, connecting the MP-CDL data link to the entire control system, meant that the drones here would not experience interference from friendly forces—and this was how modern warfare began.

"Very well, focus on your jobs now, gentlemen."

Thompson’s face was stern as he sat down on a chair he had pulled up for himself, picked up the headset that had just been Murphy’s, looked at his watch, and said: "Indiscriminate shelling with heavy artillery will inevitably damage the refinery, otherwise it would indeed be a viable option, but that’s a cost we cannot afford. Now, let us pray... no, let’s hope our planes can get here soon. I have a feeling the Pyro-thief won’t act too hastily."

Then came the long wait as Murphy watched helplessly as the Pyro-thief rigged the oil tank with explosives and then moved into the grain and oil processing plant area, heading into the core distillation tower.

Unable to hide his frustration, Murphy said: "Now, if we fire upon it, we will certainly damage the refinery, and yet your objective is to preserve the refinery..."

Thompson ignored Murphy but suddenly spoke into the headset: "This is Thompson. I’m glad you made it on time. The target will probably use electronic detonators. Wanderer, initiate full-spectrum electronic jamming; Warthog, move into the airspace over the target, ready to commence an attack, but do not fire without my order."

Murphy was stunned once again and looked at his old acquaintance, Larry, exclaiming: "You’ve brought electronic warfare aircraft and Warthog attackers. You came by helicopter. Where the hell did you come from? How can you fly?"

Larry glanced at Murphy, then replied in a low voice: "That’s none of your concern."

For the first time, Murphy tried to argue, saying urgently: "No! Listen to me, listen to me, this Pyro-thief, he’s not simple, but he’s not the key issue. Since we have attack aircraft, why not go straight for Ram’s base? Dammit! Just one airstrike could destroy his command system. Why waste such precious aerial power on an individual?"

Murphy’s eyes were red with anger, but Larry coldly replied, "Because... it’s none of your business."

Thompson turned around, checked his watch, and then with a stern face said: "Because the refinery is too important for us. Without the refinery, our air force cannot be stationed in Malakal, so preserving the refinery is our utmost priority for now. As for the Solar System Company... they’ll soon no longer be an issue."

Murphy yelled again: "You don’t know shit! Ram and his Satan are the souls of the Solar System Company. Without Ram, the Solar System Company will not be able to maintain its current unity. Their people could turn to us immediately. Damn it, take out Ram!"

Thompson smiled and said nothing, while Larry, with a look of disgust, said: "Attack them after the Solar System Company discovers our aerial capabilities, prepares their anti-air missile defenses? Murphy, you’re a real disappointment. Are you still trying to mislead us at this point?"

Murphy was bewildered, but Thompson said gravely: "Perhaps Mr. Murphy... is truly just a fool? We can’t dismiss the possibility. Let me explain briefly, Mr. Murphy. The role and significance of the Pyro-thief are far more important than you imagine, and as for Ram... he’s just a mercenary. Moreover... sorry, please wait a moment, the Pyro-thief is coming out."

Watching the Pyro-thief on the screen, Thompson immediately said: "Wanderer, initiate full-spectrum electronic jamming; Warthog, engage at will, provided you do not damage the refinery."
