The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse -
Chapter 513 - 506
Chapter 513: 506
To deal with the zombies in the city, one should either avoid disturbing them altogether or use intense and concentrated firepower to annihilate them, with nuclear bombs actually being the best option.
In fact, a fully detonated nuclear bomb, especially a hydrogen bomb, leaves little residual nuclear radiation after the explosion. The Soviet Union used nuclear bombs to extinguish fires and to create artificial lakes, without leaving behind much in the way of serious consequences.
The prolonged nuclear radiation actually comes from incomplete nuclear reactions or, simply put, from dirty bombs that failed to detonate fully, or from nuclear power plants.
If Gao Yuan weren’t worried about the reaction of the Serpent People after using nuclear bombs, he would truly suggest that Ram just level Malakal with nukes. Keeping the city wasn’t important, but leaving the zombies and monsters in it was ultimately a risk.
While running, Gao Yuan still had the presence of mind to ponder these matters, which only indicated one thing: he was now completely at ease.
Time bombs detonated one after another behind Gao Yuan. The number of zombies around him didn’t decrease, nor did the number of monsters, but in the distance, monsters that hadn’t spotted Gao Yuan immediately shifted direction.
After all, brainless creatures were ultimately easier to deal with, as long as the Serpent People deployed living beings or weapons, rather than sentient creatures, Gao Yuan truly had nothing to fear.
"Brainless monsters are relatively easy to handle, um, do you think the Serpent People would ever..."
Li Jinfang’s face turned pale, and he said, "Don’t say it!"
"Create intelligent monsters..."
Rabbit said it anyway, staring blankly at Li Jinfang and then suddenly covering his mouth, his face filled with horror, "Did I say that?"
"You said it!"
"But I didn’t say anything crucial, right?"
Li Jinfang glared fiercely at Rabbit, then said into the walkie-talkie, "Nemesis, you’re about to reach the city’s edge. Run towards three o’clock, where there are the fewest monsters."
"Three o’clock, got it."
Three o’clock meant directly to the right, but though Gao Yuan acknowledged the instruction, he didn’t turn right, instead, he ran to the opposite side, to the left.
He still had two hand grenades on him, the last two, and their only use was as a distraction.
Gao Yuan threw the two hand grenades and then started running in circles on the spot, waiting for the instant the grenades exploded. Suddenly, he accelerated, pushing his speed to the absolute limit he could endure.
Gao Yuan had been running at a leisurely pace because sprinting rapidly would quickly deplete his stamina, but now, when it was time to break away from the battlefield, he had to rely on his speed advantage to shake off all the zombies and monsters.
Gao Yuan didn’t know how fast he could run now; all he could hear was the whooshing of the wind. Then, as he ran for his life, the zombies, monsters, and drones all fell behind, unable to match his speed.
There was only one drone left now, operated by Harry Keane, but just then, Gao Yuan heard Li Jinfang’s urgent voice through the walkie-talkie, "The drone’s been caught up by a bat, it’s going down!"
The last drone was brought down by a bat.
Fortunately, Gao Yuan no longer needed the drone’s aerial guidance; he had escaped the most dangerous area. Now all he had to do was take a detour back to the car and then drive off quickly.
Gao Yuan began to slow down gradually, since his explosive burst of speed could only last a short while, and if he didn’t want to stop to eat, he had to conserve his energy while running.
He made it back to the car smoothly; the engine was already running. As soon as Gao Yuan sat down in the car, it immediately started moving.
"There aren’t any monsters chasing us, right?"
Gao Yuan shook his head and said, "No, geez, I’m sweating and kind of tired."
He picked up a big bucket of water and gulped it down noisily. Setting the bucket down, Gao Yuan let out a long sigh and said, "Mission accomplished. The situation here is different from Shenzhou. It doesn’t feel right. But these monsters, zombies, they’re all brainless. As long as we stay alert, they aren’t too difficult to deal with. The scary thing is a siege led by the zombies under the guidance of the Serpent People."
At this point, Li Jinfang, who was driving the car, gave Rabbit a fierce stare.
Gao Yuan felt that something was amiss and curiously asked, "What’s wrong? Why aren’t you guys asking about the situation? What’s up with Rabbit?"
Rabbit, looking somewhat embarrassed, said, "My mouth, well... it’s poisonous..."
"Hmm?"
Li Jinfang said impatiently, "He means he’s got a crow’s mouth. Good predictions don’t come true, but the bad ones do—extremely accurately at that. And this guy isn’t even aware of it; he runs his mouth without thinking about what should and shouldn’t be said."
Rabbit looked like he was about to cry and spread his hands, saying, "I didn’t think that much, I just felt, I just felt, damn! Am I that powerful?"
Gao Yuan curiously asked, "What did he say?"
"He said he feared the aliens would create creatures with brains."
"What?"
Rabbit said urgently, "That’s not what I said, I meant..."
"Shut up!"
Li Jinfang shouted angrily, and Rabbit obediently closed his mouth. Yet Gao Yuan, puzzled, said, "Is that all? I thought it was something serious. If Rabbit’s mouth is that potent, wouldn’t it become a Weapon of Cause and Effect?"
Li Jinfang said helplessly, "You don’t know, we’re all scared by his crow’s mouth."
Gao Yuan sighed and said, "I think the aliens wouldn’t create creatures with brains. It doesn’t suit their needs. If they needed brains, the Serpent People have their own, so there’s nothing too worrisome. As for the sniper cannon, its power is satisfactory; it can penetrate an Armored Beast’s head with one shot. I think it wouldn’t have a problem hitting the torso. Yeah, there wasn’t even a chance to fire a second shot."
Li Jinfang grabbed the car radio and said, "Begin evacuation, everyone start the evacuation."
Gao Yuan had entered the city himself, and Li Jinfang and the others were nearby for support. But they weren’t the only ones carrying out this reconnaissance mission; a larger squad was waiting to back them up, with clear evacuation plans in place in case Gao Yuan’s scout team ran into any trouble.
For the people from Satan, Ram always placed a high importance on safety, regardless of the cost.
The journey from Malakal base was not a short one. After the exhausting trip, Gao Yuan was tired and fell asleep in the vehicle. When he awoke, they had already arrived at the base.
And by the time they got to the base, Ram was already waiting for him.
Seeing Gao Yuan, Ram nodded then spoke in a low voice, "You must be tired after all that effort, aren’t you?"
"It’s okay, I’m not tired."
"If you’re not tired, let’s have a meeting. I’ll brief you on the situation first. The teams that went to Kodok and Malut for reconnaissance have sent back their reports. They didn’t encounter any alien attacks. According to the reconnaissance troops’ assessment, the enemies at Kodok and Malut seem to be plotting to take back Malakal. My opinion is we should strike first, to capture Malakal before the Sanitation Worker, even if we can’t hold it for long. At the very least, we should completely destroy Malakal’s industrial facilities and production capabilities. What do you think?"
After hearing Ram’s words, Gao Yuan stopped in his tracks, shook his head, and said, "Don’t do that. If you’re not going to use nukes, definitely don’t do that. The same goes for the Sanitation Worker. If they intend to reclaim Malakal, they’re bound to suffer a huge loss."
