Chapter 504: Chapter 497: In the End, Disappointment

It’s called a hole, but really it’s just a pit, a very deep pit.

As the gondola finally reached the bottom of the pit, Ram helped grab onto the gondola, then he smiled and said, "Scared? Let me tell you, I almost pissed myself the first time I came down here. It felt like I’d never reach the bottom."

Xinghe strode over with her long legs, crossing over the gondola, and then her foot landed right on a white bone.

With a crisp ’crack’, Xinghe looked down.

The light from the top of the hole was too far away to offer any brightness, and the bottom of the pit was extremely dim. Xinghe looked at the white thing beneath her foot and asked, "What is this?"

"Bones, ugh, a thigh bone."

Gao Yuan felt goosebumps all over his body. The temperature at the bottom of the hole was not low, about forty degrees or so, but for some reason, he felt a chill in his heart.

Xinghe turned on a powerful flashlight and illuminated the surroundings with it. The walls of the hole were smooth and even, without any dust or cracks, all made of black basalt.

Then, as the flashlight shone on the ground, Gao Yuan hurriedly looked up.

Just by the feeling under his feet, he knew that what they were stepping on were densely packed bones.

Xinghe lowered her head and picked up a skull, observing it carefully. She then casually placed it back on the ground and said, "Are these all human bones?"

"No, mostly other animals’ bones. There are only three human skeletons, as can be concluded from the number of skulls. Then, the human bones are severely shattered; many have comminuted fractures. The main skeletons are animal ones, but only one kind of antelope’s skeleton, so this place must have been a sacrificial pit. As for whether the humans fell down by accident or were thrown down as sacrifices, that’s hard to say."

Xinghe nodded, she shuffled the bones on the ground with her foot, then she looked at the ground and said, "Have these bones been dated?"

"No, that requires professional equipment, which I didn’t bother with at the time. As for now... It’s difficult to do that sort of identification."

After speaking, Ram spread his hands and said, "Honestly, I really don’t know what could be in this hole? It’s all stone here, and a single block of it at that."

Xinghe looked at Ram and asked, "Do you think a volcanic eruption could create a cave like this?"

Ram looked at Adel, who immediately said, "Of course not. It wouldn’t be this regular. But, even if this cave was man-made, that doesn’t mean the spaceship you’re looking for is here. Could it be buried in the rock?"

Xinghe frowned and said, "We don’t have that technology, and I can’t think of a reason to do it, but..."

Xinghe leaned against the cave wall, then she whispered, "Why is this?"

Gao Yuan cleared his throat twice, then he spoke loudly, "According to the usual adventure movies, there should be a secret passage or a hidden door here. According to cultivation novels, there would be restrictions. According to fantasy novels, this place should be a portal to another dimension. Which one do you think it could be?"

"Open sesame!"

Ram suddenly shouted, and the echo effect in this straight, deep hole was particularly good, making his voice very loud.

However, the effect was, of course, nonexistent.

Ram said with a wry smile, "Alright, I’ve done my job, the rest is up to you smart people to figure out slowly."

Gao Yuan tapped on the stone wall with his hand, then he drew his ax and tapped on the wall again with the hammer side of it, and he circled around, tapping the entire wall.

"Hmm, it’s solid all the way through..."

Gao Yuan put away his ax, and then he whispered, "My work here is done, you two smart folks can figure it out yourselves."

Gao Yuan took the initiative to stand with Ram.

Ram expressed his regret, "Desires are beautiful, but reality is often cruel..."

Gao Yuan also sighed and said softly, "I also feel that it’s improbable for a spaceship to be here. This doesn’t seem right at all. Besides, no matter how you look at it, with such a narrow space, a spaceship couldn’t fit through."

Xinghe looked utterly puzzled; she stared at the wall for a long while, and finally, she took out the Revelation.

Xinghe activated the Revelation, and as she looked at it, her face filled with disappointment.

"If a spaceship is really hidden hundreds of meters underground, the signal would indeed be affected. I thought I could find it here, but there’s no signal..."

Xinghe’s face was a picture of confusion, and she looked almost ready to cry.

Gao Yuan said softly, "Well, at least we have a clue now. Don’t hurry, maybe there’s something off."

Xinghe pointed at the Revelation, a look of helplessness on her face as she said quietly, "Signals can’t lie. If that spaceship were here, even if in a non-operational state, we would still receive a signal. Once I activate the Revelation, there would be an interactive mechanism with the spaceship. That’s technology, or rather a tradition, that our civilization must possess. A spaceship piloted by a Celestial explorer couldn’t possibly be without it."

With a soft sigh, Xinghe turned off the Revelation, and with a helpless expression, she said, "Didn’t our ancestors leave any clue at all? The one he piloted was a prototype, representing the pinnacle of Celestial technology. How could he just disappear like that, just like that..."

Xinghe looked at Ram, then quietly asked, "Did you bring your diamond?"

Ram hastened to reply, "Brought it, here you go."

Gao Yuan whispered, "Use a flashlight to shine on it."

Although Xinghe thought Gao Yuan’s suggestion was somewhat ludicrous, she still held the diamond in one hand and the flashlight in the other, and then the red diamond began to scatter beautiful rays of light.

Gao Yuan had hoped that shining a light might reveal some kind of writing in the shadows, but unfortunately, it was all useless; nothing appeared.

Taking a breath, Xinghe put down the flashlight and handed the diamond back to Ram, saying with a look of dejection, "There’s really nothing here. Let’s go back up. Maybe the secret is hidden inside the statue."

Ram casually hung the diamond necklace around his neck to avoid having to take it out again later, then spoke into the intercom, "Tell the people above not to come down. There’s nothing. We’re going up."

After speaking, Ram turned to Gao Yuan and Xinghe and said, "You two go up first."

Gao Yuan shook his head and said, "No, let the lady go first."

Ram had no objections. Xinghe and Adel entered the basket first, and once it started to ascend slowly, Gao Yuan couldn’t help but sigh, "Still haven’t found it, too bad..."

Ram also let out a light sigh, "How could it be that simple? The Sanitation Workers have known about this place for a long time because my diamond mine can’t be hidden from them. Plus, I suspect that the people who came to explore here last time were sent by the Sanitation Workers. If there was anything unusual, they would have discovered it long ago. So, I was hoping that Xinghe, the alien, might discover something, but now it seems there’s no difference at all."
