The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse -
Chapter 485 - 478
Chapter 485: 478
It was as if a sky full of dark clouds had suddenly cleared away, and Gao Yuan felt a brightening before his eyes.
The brightness came from the bats that had been swarming around Gao Yuan becoming fewer. When he slashed with his knife and crushed with his mace, clearing out the remaining bats in just a few strikes, he found his feet buried in a pile of bat corpses.
The ground was covered with dead bats, densely packed to form a thick layer, impossible to count. If he had to make a rough guess, there were at least a thousand of them.
Had it finally ended? A loud gunshot pulled the highly focused Gao Yuan back to reality.
Looking down, Gao Yuan saw the bodies of seven Lizard Monsters, with the closest less than three meters away from him and the farthest at a distance of thirty meters.
How had this fierce battle with the monsters started, and how had it ended?
Even though it had just happened, Gao Yuan had no recollection of it; his brain seemed to have lost its ability to think.
Suppressing the urge to just sit down, Gao Yuan lowered his right hand and used his Steel Mace as a cane to support himself on the ground.
He was very tired, not from the exhaustion of physical energy but from the mental strain and hyper-concentration that had fatigued him.
In the time it took to let out a long breath, Gao Yuan heard Gao Yang shouting behind him, "Oh, my God..."
Looking up again, Gao Yuan saw two Armored Beasts.
Here they come again – when will it ever end?
Gao Yuan felt helpless. Now that he was feeling tired, the Armored Beasts came charging aggressively, and there were two of them.
If the beasts came one by one, there would be some time to react. One Armored Beast was not too hard to deal with, but two at once was more than Gao Yuan could manage – he couldn’t fight two Armored Beasts at the same time.
"Rocket Launcher! Get the rocket prepared."
Gao Yang was shouting while Gao Yuan took a deep breath and lifted the Steel Mace from the ground once again.
With no bats or Lizard Monsters remaining, two Armored Beasts appeared – were these the last of the monsters?
Probably not. Looking at the spaceship still in the sky, Gao Yuan knew that monsters would keep coming because the Serpent People wouldn’t stop until they had completely destroyed the city.
"I’ll lure the Armored Beasts away while you all retreat now. It seems there are no other monsters nearby, so this area should be safe for a short while. Don’t open fire, don’t attract the attention of the monsters. Once I’ve drawn them away, I’ll catch up with you," Gao Yuan said.
After speaking, Gao Yuan suddenly accelerated and charged toward the two Armored Beasts running together.
"Hey..." Gao Yang called out loudly, but watching Gao Yuan’s retreating figure, he knew he couldn’t possibly catch up.
Gao Yuan had no intention of playing the martyr or sacrificing himself for others, although he would if necessary. But the situation hadn’t reached the point of needing to sacrifice himself yet.
His plan was to just lead the Armored Beasts away from the tower. That was all Gao Yuan needed to do.
As the distance closed rapidly, Gao Yuan spread his arms and finally couldn’t help but cry out.
"Ah... Come on!"
With a loud roar, Gao Yuan suddenly ducked down, and as he dodged the charging Armored Beast, he brought his mace down hard.
The Steel Mace forcefully struck the leg of the Armored Beast, which immediately started to slow down, and quickly stopped before turning around to fix its small, emotionless eyes on Gao Yuan.
But the other Armored Beast didn’t slow down at all and continued to charge towards the tower.
Gao Yuan was frantic; he had to start chasing quickly, hoping to intercept the second Armored Beast.
Dodging low again to avoid the swinging limbs of the Armored Beast, Gao Yuan caught up to the one heading for the tower and, with all his might, landed another heavy blow before letting out another loud shout.
"Come on!"
Now, both Armored Beasts had their attention on Gao Yuan and launched an attack on him together.
When dealing with large targets, Armored Beasts instinctively discharge electricity but against small targets like humans, they often simply swing their limbs, enough to send a person flying and kill them with a single hit.
But Gao Yuan was faster than the Armored Beasts, so their physical attacks were almost ineffective against him.
With a leap, Gao Yuan once again arrived behind the Armored Beast and struck it heavily once more.
He didn’t believe he couldn’t break the Armored Beast’s legs.
This time, Gao Yuan finally managed to snap one of the Armored Beast’s hind legs, but because the Armored Beast had a different posture, although he broke its resistance, the beast did not fall.
The troublesome part was that another Armored Beast, whether it had become dazed from the attack or suddenly smartened up, ignored Gao Yuan and turned around, charging towards the tower at full speed.
The issue was that Satan’s group truly respected expertise, and they had heeded Gao Yuan’s advice to evacuate the tower en masse.
No wonder the Armored Beast had been lured away, because it saw more people.
Logically, without being attacked, an Armored Beast’s attention wouldn’t shift so easily, so the situation now could only mean that it had mutated again or evolved.
Gao Yuan left behind the Armored Beast with a broken leg and began sprinting towards the tower.
But unfortunately, Gao Yuan felt his strength rapidly draining away.
Two hundred meters, one hundred and eighty meters, one hundred and fifty meters, he was getting closer and closer.
Gao Yang finally couldn’t hold back anymore. He raised his gun and fired at the Armored Beast, but from his current angle, it was impossible to hit the beast’s eyes, and even if the angle were right, it was highly unlikely he would strike the eyes of the rapidly moving beast.
"Little Fly!"
Facing the oppressive feeling of a monstrous creature five meters tall and six or seven meters long rushing towards him, Gao Yang couldn’t stay calm, and after a loud roar, Fly immediately launched a rocket from the launcher on his shoulder.
With a whoosh, the rocket hit the Armored Beast but struck its side and slid off, still grazing past Gao Yuan.
Fly discarded the used launcher, reached out, and Stupid Bear handed him another Rocket Launcher. At the same time, Gao Yang raised his Barrett and fired.
Gao Yang’s marksmanship was truly astonishing; against all odds, he accurately hit the Armored Beast’s head.
But the shot did nothing. Even the 12.7mm caliber bullet could not inflict any damage on the Armored Beast.
Gao Yang fired again, hitting the target once more, but the bullet still ricocheted off.
The machine gun commenced firing, to no avail. Fly launched another rocket, which directly hit the Armored Beast and finally exploded.
But it was still useless.
Gao Yang finally couldn’t help but exclaim in frustration, "This is so hard to take down..."
At that moment, Gao Yuan finally caught up with the Armored Beast. He struck hard at its hind leg from behind, and with a crashing sound, the steel mace made of pure steel broke in two upon contact with the beast’s hind leg.
Gao Yuan had no time to be shocked. He accelerated again, leaped up, and jumped onto the Armored Beast’s back. As he slid forward on its back, he slammed down madly with the remaining half of the steel mace he held in his hand.
"Ah..."
Fifty meters, Gao Yuan raised the half mace for a smash, but the Armored Beast continued its charge. At forty meters, Gao Yuan raised the steel mace again, but due to a sway from the beast and its slick shell, Gao Yuan’s footing slipped, and he slid off the back of the Armored Beast.
Whether it was due to strength or luck, Gao Yuan, in the split-second of his descent, wildly slid and stabbed with the half mace in his right hand, and somehow, he managed to thrust the broken weapon into the gap between the Armored Beast’s neck and its back.
As he hung abruptly in mid-air, Gao Yuan didn’t have time to ponder why he was suspended; he instinctively lashed out with the long knife in his left hand towards the head of the Armored Beast.
Amidst the clinking sounds, the long knife couldn’t penetrate the Armored Beast’s head, but then suddenly Gao Yuan felt a dramatic decrease in the resistance, and he thrust the knife all the way in, pulled it partly out, and then stirred and jabbed chaotically.
The Armored Beast writhed in agony, and as Gao Yuan stabbed again, his long knife snapped in two inside the eye socket of the beast.
But the Armored Beast finally fell. As Gao Yuan landed on his feet, about to be crushed by the beast, he let go of the broken mace he was gripping in his right hand and then ran a few steps forward with the momentum.
The Armored Beast slid to a halt in front of Gao Yang, and Gao Yuan, who was almost sliding at the same speed, stood in front of Gao Yang.
The Armored Beast lay dead on the ground, and Gao Yuan was left holding only half of the broken knife.
Staring at Gao Yuan in astonishment, Gao Yang finally said softly, "Too fierce! Impressive, I’m convinced!"
