Chapter 316: Chapter 209: Discussing Peace
Reviewing the recent events, the elderly man with the Mosin-Nagant rifle had tried to grab a grenade from the ammo pouch on his chest after Gao Yuan knocked the rifle out of his hands.
But he quickly realized he couldn’t move his right hand, and even if he could, the grenade would be useless, so he immediately fell backwards, abandoning the attempt to grab the grenade.
Gao Yuan ran over and instantly took to the sky.
As both men stood motionless due to extreme shock and fear, the Mosin-Nagant elder spotted the rifle Gao Yuan had discarded nearby and rolled over to it.
Since his right arm wasn’t working, the Mosin-Nagant elder lay on the ground, propped his legs up in a cross-legged position, and used his foot for support to fire two more shots at Gao Yuan.
Gao Yuan had intended to kick the old man, but realizing the elder was actually going to shoot before he could kick, he stamped his right foot violently on the ground, and his body surged forward.
Gao Yuan’s accelerated dive caused the two bullets aimed at his head to hit his abdomen and chest instead, and then, losing balance from the dive, he casually seized the elder’s rifle and threw it far away.
Next, Gao Yuan intended to stomp the old man lying in front of him to death, but as he brought his right foot down, he didn’t know what he was thinking.
Gao Yuan shifted his foot slightly, so it landed beside the old man’s face, and with his high-speed movement, he immediately rushed forward again.
Within a blink, Gao Yuan had spared the old man’s life—not out of consideration for the bigger picture, but because he himself didn’t know why he hadn’t crushed the man with his foot.
Gao Yuan stopped twenty meters away, as it wasn’t easy for him to regain his footing after losing balance.
Gao Yuan finally came to a halt, looking at the three people before him.
What really happened, only Gao Yuan and the old man knew.
Gao Yuan knew part of the story, the old man knew part of it, but as for the onlookers, whether right there or sitting in front of screens watching the drone footage, nobody knew what had really happened.
Andrew pointed at the screen, looking at Panxin, and with a wide-open mouth and bulging eyes, he didn’t make a sound. Instead, he queried Panxin with his expression and body language.
A person who ran at lightning speed and leaped high into the air couldn’t be called a human anymore.
Actually, Gao Yuan knew someone was watching him, so he didn’t want to appear too out of the ordinary, but after taking the first shot, and a bullet hit his bulletproof vest without penetration, he gave up on hiding his abilities.
He had to run, and run fast, or he might die, so Gao Yuan couldn’t keep concealing his real strength, his true speed.
But he really didn’t understand how, under these circumstances, that old man managed to hit him.
It was truly miraculous, extremely so.
Even more miraculous was Gao Yuan, because the old man couldn’t understand why Gao Yuan hadn’t died; his eyes saw, but he just couldn’t comprehend why Gao Yuan was still alive, still able to move, run, and fly so high.
The fight had stopped because nobody had weapons in their hands anymore.
Gao Yuan had no weapons, and he didn’t need any, but his enemies had lost the ability to continue fighting once they were disarmed, so now Gao Yuan controlled the situation.
The old man lay on the ground, and with some difficulty, turned his head. To look around, he had to lie facedown, pressing his right arm, and twisting himself into an awkward position to watch Gao Yuan.
Why hadn’t he died?
Even with a bulletproof vest, the old man had shot through them before. To him, even if someone was wearing a bulletproof vest, what of it? If an AK couldn’t penetrate, a Mosin-Nagant surely could—this was his exprienced belief, as many people he had killed were wearing bulletproof vests, so he knew.
But today was different; something miraculous happened.
Li Yang finally arrived, albeit running desperately, but he couldn’t match Gao Yuan’s speed.
The belated Li Yang saw a very peaceful scene: Gao Yuan kneeling on one knee, in a superhero’s entrance pose, ready to strike at any moment.
One person lay on the ground while two others stood there, looking like at least no one was injured.
It seemed Gao Yuan had already convinced them. Li Yang halted, raised his hands, and shouted loudly, "Hello, please don’t..."
Li Yang suddenly stopped speaking because, by reading the expressions of the three facing him, he realized the situation might be different from what he thought.
It was accompanied by surprise, fear, extreme bewilderment, and utter despair.
Li Yang sped up and dashed forward, reaching Gao Yuan’s side, and then saw the five bullet holes in front of Gao Yuan, almost in a straight line.
"Ask them why they shot at me! No, don’t ask that," Gao Yuan stood up, staring intently at the old man in front of him, and said softly, "Say it as we planned before."
"Hello, we are Shenzhou People."
Li Yang still didn’t quite understand what had happened; he looked at the man lying on the ground but quickly realized that the real Whitebeard was the one standing, so he turned to Whitebeard and said, "We’d like to talk to you."
Using Pashto, Whitebeard’s beard twitched, then responded gravely, "Who are you... people."
Li Yang had already stated their identity, but without showing impatience, he repeated solemnly, "Hello, we are Shenzhou People."
Whitebeard remained silent. Li Yang glanced left and right and said, "Can we sit down and talk peacefully?"
Whitebeard looked at the old man lying on the ground and asked, "Talk about what?"
Li Yang calmly replied, "We can discuss anything, like peace. We come in friendship, and we have no desire to be your enemy. It’s just that to find an opportunity to meet and talk to you, we had to come in the way we did, please believe we have no ill intentions."
The old man on the ground suddenly said, "Why don’t you die?"
"What?"
Li Yang was taken aback, then realized the old man was asking Gao Yuan, so he turned to Gao Yuan and frowned, "He’s asking why you won’t die?"
Gao Yuan intended to lift up his first layer of the bulletproof vest, but it was stiff, so he turned sideways, pulled open the velcro patch on the side of the bulletproof vest, and said, "I’m wearing two."
Li Yang translated Gao Yuan’s words, the old man exhaled, then he lowered his head, it being quite uncomfortable to keep it uplifted all the time.
"So that’s it."
The old man tried to roll over, but that was when he discovered the pain in his right shoulder wasn’t just a lack of strength. With his left arm shoving himself, he rolled over again, faced up, and the old man said in a low voice, "Then why can you fly?"
