Chapter 314: Chapter 307 Differences in Thinking
"How do you say ’friend’ in Pashto? And how do you say ’I am from Shenzhou’?"
Gao Yuan asked Li Yang the final question, which Li Yang answered, but Panxin, who was standing alongside, couldn’t help but say, "Are you going to negotiate like this? Isn’t it too dangerous?"
Andrew chimed in from the side, "We can send eight armored vehicles to accompany you, so if the negotiations fall apart, we can immediately surround them. And with more people, those Afghans wouldn’t dare to harm you."
Gao Yuan was resigned, desperately trying to disassociate himself from the people at Kandahar Air Base, let alone bring a bunch of Americans along for negotiations.
Li Yang also said, "He has a point. I’ll go by myself, or maybe Mr. Jian and I will go. It’s better you stay here."
Because the Afghans would shoot and then leave, and they usually don’t come at night, if Gao Yuan didn’t want to wait until tomorrow for negotiations, he would need to hurry up. Also, due to the urgency and haste, it was impossible for the preparations to be done well.
Gao Yuan raised his hand and loudly said, "Enough, enough, no more talking. Let’s do as I said earlier. Brother Li, no offense, but you really need to change your way of thinking."
Gao Yuan twirled a finger around his head and said, "I’ve noticed that you are a real talent, but your thinking isn’t flexible enough. I’m not saying that you are too rigid."
Li Yang spoke softly, "But you’ve already said it. We bodyguards need to keep our minds in a box. Guards who kill indiscriminately are only in movies. Our sole responsibility is to block the bullet holes when a real crisis hits. Do you understand at all?"
"Is your bulletproof vest on? Let’s go, let’s go!"
Gao Yuan climbed up the ladder into the cockpit and then pulled open the vehicle door, only to find that the steering wheel was on the right side instead of the left.
So Gao Yuan jumped back down and, as he walked around the front of the vehicle, he said to Li Yang, "They installed the steering wheel on the wrong side."
Li Yang shouted to Harry Kane once more, "Make sure again that there are no RPGs!"
"None, absolutely none," came the reply.
Finally, Li Yang got into the vehicle and said to Gao Yuan, "The steering wheel in English cars is on the right."
Gao Yuan, resigned, said, "I was just joking. Let’s go, let’s go."
The Foxhound started up, and as Li Yang began to drive out, he couldn’t help but say, "Why do you insist that just the two of us go to negotiate? If we don’t let Andrew send escorts, at least we should take Mr. Jian’er and King Kong with us."
Gao Yuan spoke with a sense of pathos, "Brother Li, your way of thinking doesn’t work. Such a simple issue, even Doggie understands, so why can’t you see it?."
Li Yang said seriously, "My thinking is different from yours."
It was already clear that Li Yang’s thinking was different from ordinary people.
If it was about defense, Li Yang was a master; with Li Yang arranging things, Gao Yuan felt secure even while sleeping.
But when it came to offense, Li Yang was very conservative. He was far behind Panxin and Li Jingang.
Deceit, cunning, cheating, and stealing—none would escape Li Yang’s eyes. But asking Li Yang to engage in deceit, that’s completely out of the question. It wasn’t his nature because, in his view, any ploy was riddled with holes. Using such flawed lies to deceive others, he couldn’t get past his own moral barriers.
Because Li Yang felt that only a fool would be taken in by such schemes.
Yet time and again, Gao Yuan used those same clumsy tricks that even fools could understand to successfully deceive others.
Li Yang didn’t understand; he couldn’t grasp why there were people so gullible. And Gao Yuan, too, didn’t understand why even the most contrived excuses could never come out right when it came to Li Yang.
It can’t be said that they were at odds after just half a sentence, but Gao Yuan and Li Yang really had nothing to talk about, the conversation faltered after just a couple of sentences.
Since neither could change the other’s mind, it was better to talk less. After all, Gao Yuan was too lazy to explain, and even if he did, Li Yang would still be unable to accept Gao Yuan’s explanations.
The Foxhound Armored Vehicle was speeding, heading straight for Whitebeard.
Afghans wore similar clothes, and their faces, well, they’re hard to distinguish for white people, so the most distinctive feature turned out to be the beard. An old man whose beard had mostly gone white naturally got the nickname Whitebeard.
No sooner had their armored vehicle left the gate than Li Jingang chimed in over the radio, "Nemesis, the enemy has started to withdraw; they’re heading east."
The armored vehicle maintained its course without deviation, continuing in the set direction. After driving at high speed for two kilometers, Li Yang turned the steering wheel sharply.
If there wasn’t a drone monitoring from the sky, the enemy could easily escape, but with a drone fixated on the target, it wasn’t so easy for the people on the ground to get away.
"The enemy crowd has dispersed. They’ve realized that your target is very clear, and now they’re splitting up and fleeing," came the voice over the radio.
Gao Yuan said over the radio, "Never mind the others, where’s Whitebeard?"
"Bearing north as the reference, Whitebeard is fleeing to a two o’clock position, only two people left by his side."
"Understood."
Li Yang drove fast, and then he said in a deep voice, "How do you plan to make contact with Whitebeard?"
Gao Yuan replied without hesitation, "Run over and greet him with a hello."
Li Yang scoffed, "You’re a bug, be careful of bullets."
Gao Yuan patted his chest and laughed, "Two layers of bulletproof vests, three layers of ballistic plates; even heavy machine guns can’t penetrate them, and I’ll have this in front of my head. I don’t believe they can hit me."
Li Yang muttered, "Don’t underestimate the heroes of the world; there are many experts."
Gao Yuan laughed, "Hmm, I know."
Li Yang sighed and then Gao Yuan pointed ahead and said, "There they are!"
Whitebeard’s men were dispersing, clearly realizing that this armored vehicle was targeting them and persistently chasing them. No matter how they changed direction or tried to hide, they still ended up splitting up and fleeing.
The three men changed direction not very swiftly, trying to use the small hills as cover to escape the armored vehicle’s pursuit.
Li Yang took a sharp turn up ahead, then he stopped the vehicle and said, "You go ahead, I’ll be right behind."
Gao Yuan opened the door, jumped out of the vehicle, and then lifted a bulletproof vest to shield his face before he immediately rushed toward Whitebeard’s last known location.
No matter how maneuverable the armored vehicle was, there were some places it couldn’t go. Now Whitebeard and his men were trying to run up a hill scattered with huge rocks—a short hill but one the armored vehicle couldn’t climb.
Gao Yuan ran and shouted, bellowing, "Friend, I am Shenzhou People, don’t shoot, friend, I am Shenzhou People, don’t..."
Gao Yuan felt a slight jolt in his chest, then he looked down at his chest. There was a small bullet hole in the outer layer of his bulletproof vest; he’d been shot.
