The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse
Chapter 290 - 283: Breaking the Game

Chapter 290: Chapter 283: Breaking the Game

Three machine guns, with at least two being large-caliber, positioned on the mountainsides and one at the base of the mountain. There were also three men ambushed less than three hundred meters away by the roadside.

So now there appeared to be five points of fire, with no fewer than seven men.

Based on the individual reactions of these men, they could hardly be deemed very formidable, as their shooting was, at best, sloppy, and their tactical movements were almost non-existent, akin to the typical response of an ordinary person picking up a gun.

But that awareness, it could only belong to seasoned veterans.

The machine gun opened fire, blasting away a full belt of bullets, and then the gunman immediately lifted his weapon to flee. Moreover, it was from a predetermined position. When firing, one could see where the gunner was, but as soon as the gunner ducked back, Gao Yuan and his team immediately lost sight of him,

It wouldn’t take long for the ambushers to switch positions and open fire again. It was inevitable.

Then the three nearby ambushers were all killed, but the one Gao Yuan blew up would not have met such an easy end if it weren’t for Gao Yuan, otherwise, he wouldn’t have been blown up so readily.

In a twenty-year-long war with America, the locals had developed an instinct to shoot and run because any slight delay might result in being blown up by air-to-ground missiles, hammered by helicopters with machine guns and rockets, struck by vehicle-mounted anti-tank missiles, mortars, snipers, grinded by America’s world-dominating superior firepower.

Twenty years, and the children born at the time America entered Afghan had now grown into competent soldiers, already savvy in combat against foes with superior firepower.

Those who hadn’t learned were dead, a case of natural selection.

Just by their choice of pre-set positions, ambush arrangement, and maneuverability to change positions, Gao Yuan had come to fully understand the meaning of not very formidable but very difficult to deal with.

Just one round had cost Gao Yuan and his team their vehicle and left two men wounded.

But these thoughts merely flickered through Gao Yuan’s mind when Panxin bellowed again at the top of his lungs, "Machine gun! Cover!"

Gao Yuan started running again, then a string of bullets kicked up the dust behind him.

The enemy had more than just three machine gun positions, there were at least five.

The earlier three machine gun positions had fired, forcing Gao Yuan and his team to stop and suffer heavy losses. And just when everyone thought that there were only a few enemies and planned to escape while the enemy was shifting positions, they would be squarely hit by the two concealed machine gun positions.

Gao Yuan got moving because hiding behind rocks was unsafe. He now realized that in this ambush setting, there was no such thing as a safe firing angle.

The locations were carefully chosen, distances meticulously calculated; the person who had shot at Gao Yuan from behind a rock was definitely placed there to deliver a fatal blow to them.

In the past, the people of Shenzhou had mastered the art of using the Mauser C96, also known as the ’Broomhandle’, a large combat pistol generally unpopular around the world but which shone in the hands of the Shenzhou people.

And while the AK47 gun family is popular worldwide, the Afghans are the true experts in using this type of rifle. In the hands of Black Uncle in Africa, the AK47 is a toy, but in the hands of Afghan veterans, it’s a deadly weapon.

The Ambush Pocket Formation blossoms from all sides, catching the enemy by surprise, with a sniper nestled in the middle of the pocket who could end the battle with pinpoint accuracy.

This was the enemy’s tactic. Not exactly novel, but those who dare to employ it and master it are few and far between in the world.

Gao Yuan could only run, but as he serpentined rapidly to avoid being hit by bullets, he was also diligently searching for traces of the enemy.

Yet when he looked around, all he saw was a vast wilderness stretching out in all directions.

Where are the people? There’s simply no one to be seen.

Gao Yuan slowed down his pace, his fingers tense around a grenade with the pin pulled, his left hand clutching another grenade without the pin. If he could see anyone, he would immediately throw a grenade their way, but right now, he couldn’t see anyone at all.

"Four o’clock position! Eight o’clock position!"

Panxin shouted one after another, Gao Yuan turned abruptly but still couldn’t see anyone.

"The enemy has hidden themselves; if we try to close the distance, they will shoot us from behind."

They were surrounded by the enemy, but no shots were fired. They just waited silently.

Their psychological toughness was astonishing. On the battlefield, the action of a rookie would be to aim at the enemy and pull the trigger until all their bullets were spent, but here, close-range enemies who couldn’t quickly move would rather stay put than fire their guns. They dared to play the waiting game.

Before, it was Gao Yuan who confused the enemy with his high speed and mobility, but now, he was the one confused by these patient foes.

It wasn’t fear, but rather not knowing what to do. That was what it meant to be confused.

"I’ve got the sniper rifle!"

Li Yang said over the radio, Gao Yuan looked back and saw Li Yang crawling to the side of the vehicle, pulling his sniper rifle from the car, then crawling forward on the ground, finally taking cover by the roadside, away from Xinghe.

"I’ve got a rocket launcher."

It was Yu Shunzhou who spoke, but he quickly added, "But where should I aim?"

With no sight of the enemy, where should the rocket launcher be fired?

In a low voice over the radio, Panxin said, "We’re ambushed. The enemy is experienced; their target is our supplies. They have great patience. We cannot make careless moves. Now, the enemy’s machine guns have been repositioned and they have the high ground. It’s likely they will fire at us again, but this time, they will aim to hit us."

Panxin had described the trap, but he hadn’t offered a solution.

Because in such a situation, a few light infantrymen alone couldn’t find a way out.

In the past, Americans would never get caught in a situation like this, because they’d travel in armored vehicles or not dare to venture out at all without armored cover, and would call for air support without hesitation if pinned down. Within minutes, planes or helicopters would bombard the enemy’s potential hiding spots, relying on heavy fire to forcefully resolve the situation.

But now, Gao Yuan and his team had no armored vehicles, no heavy firepower, and no air support. So when there’s no way out, there’s just no way out. Even God couldn’t do anything, because that’s the law of war, the rules of the battlefield.

However, wait a minute, Spark Squad didn’t have a deity, but it did have a superhuman.

Suddenly, Panxin said, "Nemesis, I’ll use my rifle to guide you to the enemy’s location. Where I shoot, you throw a grenade there. But remember, once you toss the grenade, you will become the main target of the enemy gunner, so you must run immediately after throwing it!"

Gao Yuan took a deep breath, said, "Understood!"

It was then that Li Yang whispered into the radio, "I’ll deal with the enemy’s machine gunner. Let’s break out quickly!"
