Chapter 261: Chapter 256: Loyal Bones Buried Everywhere in the Green Hills
How to handle Zhao Qiang’s remains was a problem.
Transporting them by cart was possible, so was a burial on the spot, but leaving them unattended was absolutely out of the question.
Li Yang hadn’t woken up yet, so the final decision on how to dispose of Zhao Qiang’s body fell to Gao Yuan.
"Loyal bones are buried everywhere under green hills, why need horsehide for returning the corpse? Let’s bury him here," he said.
Gao Yuan sighed deeply, and then told everyone, "Find a place to dig a grave and erect a monument. Boss Zhao will be buried here. If any of us ever gets the chance to come back..."
After scanning the crowd, Gao Yuan said in a low voice, "If anyone ever has the chance to come back, take Boss Zhao’s bones home."
After speaking, Gao Yuan said to Lizhizi, "Taoist Priest, choose a good spot for Boss Zhao."
Lizhizi said gravely, "I’ve already been looking around, and although this place is barren and harsh, upon closer inspection, it indeed has good feng shui."
Lizhizi pointed towards the hillside on the left side of the road, "Look, this place is steep all around, but just this little patch up here, this is a good spot. With a mountain table at the front and support at the back, and a silver band encircling the waist, it’s an excellent yin dwelling that will bring prosperity to his descendants."
Everyone was silent, and then Gao Yuan nodded, "Alright, we’ll bury him here."
Nie Erlong asked quietly, "Is it really good? Can all you Taoists read feng shui?"
Lizhizi said urgently, "What kind of question is that? I may not be a feng shui master, but I still understand feng shui, okay? If I can’t pick a good yin dwelling, how could I earn a living? Look, there are mountains everywhere, with not a blade of grass on them, right? But the spot I’m talking about has soil! Definitely soil, and what’s more, it must have trees. It’s just that the locals don’t understand feng shui, otherwise such good feng shui would have been taken long ago."
Gao Yuan looked up; the spot Lizhizi pointed out was more than two hundred meters away from the road and it would take some effort to get there.
Nie Erlong glanced towards the spot Lizhizi indicated, "Are you sure? Did you check?"
Lizhizi said seriously, "Isn’t that obvious? I’ve been circling around to find a yin dwelling. We may not be of much help otherwise, but finding Boss Zhao a yin dwelling is surely within our duties. I tell you, this yin dwelling will bring prosperity to his offspring and produce high-ranking officials!"
Gao Yuan said softly, "Boss Zhao wasn’t even married yet, how could he have descendants? But if you say this is a good place, then let’s bury him here."
After speaking, Gao Yuan went to the truck to fetch a pickaxe, casually throwing a soldier’s shovel to Yu Shunzhou, then he loudly said, "Let’s dig the grave."
Gao Yuan arrived at the spot indicated by Lizhizi, and footprints on the ground confirmed that Lizhizi hadn’t been just talking; he indeed had been there before.
This was a mountain, and a high one at that, composed of rock, or rock dust, with little soil visible. But the spot Lizhizi had chosen indeed had soil, and in this small mountain hollow, there were even a few strands of grass.
Everything was as Lizhizi had described; Gao Yuan believed this place truly was an outstanding yin dwelling with excellent feng shui.
"Here, right here, just dig where I point, without deviation. A depth of three feet will suffice, not too deep but not too shallow, exactly one meter."
Lizhizi marked out a rectangular frame on the ground, Gao Yuan began churning the soil with the pickaxe, and Yu Shunzhou shoveled out the dirt loosened by the pickaxe.
"Come, come, let us start the ritual, carefully lift Boss Zhao’s body, and carry him up," Lizhizi called down, then directed people to lift Zhao Qiang’s body and start taking it up the mountain.
"O Lingbao Tianzun, comfort the body, soul of the disciple, in the mysterious Underworld of the Five Zangs, Green Dragon and White Tiger, the ceremonial guard is tumultuous, Vermilion Bird and Black Tortoise, protect my true self, swiftly, as the edict commands."
Dressed in a blue cotton robe, with a Taoist crown on his head, Lizhizi walked beside Zhao Qiang’s body, muttering under his breath, indeed looking every bit the part of a Taoist Priest.
Panxin couldn’t hold back any longer, and he whispered to Lizhizi, "What are you doing?"
"Uh, I’m reciting sutras to deliver the soul of the deceased."
Panxin whispered back, "We are staunch materialists and do not believe in such things, so stop it, will you?"
Lizhizi was taken aback for a moment, then he said, "Whether you believe it or not is your business, I believe so I’ll recite, right? It’s not like I’m bothering you guys."
Nie Erlong said, "That’s right, just let him recite. Surely it will do more good than harm, right?"
Zhao Qiang and his bunch of establishment figures were uncompromising materialists, while the half-baked crew led by Gao Yuan were the kind that believed in everything.
Otherwise, Gao Yuan would not have let Lizhizi look for a place with good feng shui.
Panxin fell silent; he and the others carried Zhao Qiang’s body up and placed it beside the grave pit they were digging.
Li Jingang stretched out his hand and said, "Let me dig; you guys take a break."
"Not tired."
"I know you’re not tired, just let me do it."
Gao Yuan stopped and handed over the pickaxe, Li Jingang took over and began digging the pit. Nie Erlong said on the side, "Why not make the prisoners work? It’s too easy on them."
Yu Shunzhou looked at Nie Erlong with disdain and said, "Their hands are dirty, you naive man."
Nie Erlong was startled, then he quickly nodded, "Right, right, I forgot about that. We better do it ourselves. Move aside, let me do it."
The grave pit was quickly dug, and everyone exchanged glances before finally looking towards Lizhizi.
Lizhizi took a breath and instructed, "Head towards the north, be careful, and adjust the feet a bit more this way, there, that’s good."
It was time to fill the grave pit, no moments for expressing grief, nor any farewell ceremony for the body because not only were Gao Yuan and his group pressed for time, they didn’t even have everyone gathered.
Wang Ning was watching Li Yang, while Liu Chunxiao, Cao Zhenjiang, and Liu Deguang were overseeing several hundred prisoners; it was really not possible to spare more people. As for Xinghe, what could she do? Better to have her stay honestly in the car.
Gao Yuan shoveled three spadefuls of earth with the entrenching tool, then handed the shovel to someone else.
A small mound rose up, and a long stone was planted in front of the grave. Then Lizhizi used a black marker to write four characters on the stone slab.
The grave of Zhao Qiang.
Not another word could be added, though even the name Zhao Qiang was false, but that was all that could be written.
Looking at the extremely rudimentary tombstone, Gao Yuan gazed at it for a while, then bowed three times toward Zhao Qiang’s grave and whispered, "Boss Zhao, Li Yang is safe now, you can rest peacefully, we’re heading off to be Sanitation Workers now, you wait and see, watch us take revenge for you."
Yu Shunzhou stood in front of the tombstone, pointing at his own face, he said, "Boss Zhao, if you do have a spirit in the sky, then watch how I do! I’m not only going to avenge you, but I’m going to let you see just what Yu Shunzhou can do! If I don’t make Indian pay dearly, then I don’t deserve the name Doggie!"
Li Jingang stood in front of the tombstone and saluted, then he said in a deep voice, "Comrade Zhao Qiang, goodbye!"
