The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse -
Chapter 241 - 237: Do Something
Chapter 241: Chapter 237: Do Something
In this world, information has always been the most precious resource, and the advantage of informational inequality is the only reason why Gao Yuan and his team could receive such courtesy.
Because of its unique geographical advantages, and also because of its small city size, Dushanbe had become an isolated Utopia. But now, because of its city’s integrity, Dushanbe had also become a target for the Serpent People.
An excellent testing ground for weapons.
Earthlings were searching for a way to defeat the Serpent People, while the Serpent People were looking for a way to swiftly annihilate the Earthlings.
But Gao Yuan didn’t understand why, after possessing such a mass-destructive weapon like a virus, the Serpent People still kept experimenting with biological weapons that seemed out of character and below their technological superiority.
Armored Beasts, Armored Turtles, and those insects—these artificially created creatures could easily destroy a city, a refuge, but weren’t they a bit too trivial compared to the massive killer that was the zombie virus?
The Serpent People ought to adopt a sort of global annihilation weapon. That would fit the stature of interstellar invaders. Any weapon focused on a single city or area was beneath the status of the overwhelming advantage the Serpent People held.
Zhao Qiang was continuously speaking in Russian with someone on the other side, but Gao Yuan’s mind was occupied by these questions.
Gao Yuan had never been a big shot, but as a survivalist, he truly wanted to find out the real motives behind the Serpent People’s actions.
Thought should not be determined by a person’s status, but rather, it should be a precious ability inherent to every individual of an intelligent species. It’s just that many people willfully abandon their innate instinct and talent for self-reflection.
"I’m asking you, hey, Gao Yuan?"
Gao Yuan snapped back to reality, realizing he had been so lost in thought that he hadn’t heard what Zhao Qiang was saying.
"Ah, what’s up?"
Zhao Qiang said seriously, "General Mosavizadeh has invited us into Dushanbe. They will provide the fuel and food supplies we need, and in return, we are to offer some necessary suggestions about their deployment."
Gao Yuan frowned and asked, "Do we have that much clout?"
Zhao Qiang whispered, "I told them you survived two alien invasions, which is a fact. Now, there can’t be many people in the whole world who have survived two alien attacks, right?"
Indeed!
Gao Yuan had been through the Stonegate battle and the Guisui battle. Experiences like these were indeed rare.
Panxin and Li Jingang had experienced two invasions, just like Yu Shunzhou and Nie Erlong. There was also Milky Way, but Milky Way had always been more of an onlooker. In that case, the Milky Way Squad was comprised of humanity’s rare survivors from two battles.
A team indeed rich in experience.
Gao Yuan let out a breath and asked, "What deployments have they made?"
"There are over one hundred and twenty anti-aircraft guns all aimed at the aliens’ ships. Additionally, there are forty anti-air missile launchers, but they’re all old models," Zhao Qiang replied.
Without hesitation, Gao Yuan pressed, "The key is, how many troops are there?"
"About ten thousand. The entire population of Tajikistan is just over nine million, and they have a long border with Afghanistan to guard. Hence there isn’t a large military presence here in Dushanbe."
"They have tanks and armored vehicles, right?"
"Yes, they do. The exact number isn’t clear though; they emphasized their anti-air capabilities."
Gao Yuan scratched his head. As a half-expert, he felt somewhat reluctant to make suggestions in the capacity of a military advisor.
But speaking from his own experiences shouldn’t be an issue.
"Tell them to level the anti-aircraft guns. Don’t waste shells trying to hit the aliens’ ships. Instead, prepare the anti-aircraft guns for the monsters once they’ve landed.
Tanks and armored vehicles will be the main weaponry, but they should be dispersed. Those Armored Beasts that can release electric currents should be hidden. Moreover, the aliens will definitely release an Electromagnetic Pulse to disrupt all communications.
Ordinary rifles and machine guns are almost useless. Most of the soldiers will only be able to play a containment role. If not necessary, the soldiers could be dispersed outside of the city for the evacuation.
Rocket Launchers, anti-tank missiles, small-caliber rapid-fire cannons, direct-fire artillery—these are the effective weapons. The rest are not worth it, as they would only serve to increase casualties.
Actually, the most crucial task is to evacuate. Evacuate the civilians into the surrounding mountains, away from the city, away from potentially alien-occupied urban landscapes, taking as much in the way of survival supplies as possible and finding a place to hide..."
Gao Yuan said a lot, Zhao Qiang translated faithfully, but as the conversation proceeded, the faces of those who had come humbly seeking advice began to sour.
Finally, Zhao Qiang couldn’t help but say to Gao Yuan, "What you’re suggesting is basically for them to give up Dushanbe."
Gao Yuan was taken aback for a moment, then suddenly let out a bitter chuckle, saying, "I’ve overlooked a very serious issue, which is that Dushanbe doesn’t have zombies. For now, it is still a relatively functioning city."
Zhao Qiang spoke softly, "It’s also the largest city in Tajikistan, and the place where Dushanbe lies is an extremely precious mountain basin plain. Leaving here, they’ll lose their main food-producing land."
Gao Yuan let out a sigh and said, "Tell them the alien creatures carry the zombie virus, which doesn’t affect us much because we all have antibodies. But think about it here... Alien creatures spreading the virus everywhere, no matter how they resist, will turn this place into hell."
Zhao Qiang was also stunned for a moment, then slowly translated Gao Yuan’s words.
So everyone fell silent. After a while, General Mosavizadeh said something tiredly to Zhao Qiang, who then whispered to Gao Yuan, "They’ve decided to share their fate with this city."
Gao Yuan didn’t know what to say.
The two groups were always about ten meters apart. At this point, General Mosavizadeh saluted Gao Yuan and Zhao Qiang, then said a few words softly to the people around him, waved his hand, and got back into the car.
One car left, still leaving one behind. After shouting a few words loudly again, the other car also left.
Gao Yuan was unclear about what had happened. Zhao Qiang turned around and said with a helpless tone, "They said we will get the supplies we need, we just need to follow the road and keep going. Someone will be waiting ahead to replenish our supplies. He said it was regrettable that they can’t invite us to see Dushanbe."
Gao Yuan nodded his head, and he and Zhao Qiang got back into the car, then he removed the headgear of his protective suit, making it easier to breathe.
The car started up again but didn’t drive off the roundabout.
No one spoke. Suddenly Gao Yuan said, "We should at least evacuate the civilians, right?"
Zhao Qiang spoke softly, "It will happen, but it seems pointless. The valley is small yet supports millions of people. If Dushanbe falls, the virus will contaminate the entire region. The surviving humans will turn into zombies, and agricultural production can’t be carried out. In the end, the outcome is the same."
"But if we can contain the zombies in the city or at least reduce the number of people infected, wouldn’t that be better?"
Zhao Qiang shook his head and then spoke softly, "Under a collapsed nest, there is no complete egg. We have a more important mission, so let’s not worry about this place anymore."
The car stopped again because there was indeed a car parked ahead.
About a dozen people were unloading things from the car. Even from a distance, it was apparent that there was flour and other foodstuffs.
Zhao Qiang looked through binoculars, then emotionlessly said, "Flour, there are canned goods, raisins, but not the high-energy food we need most."
The food was stacked on the ground, mainly bags of flour, ten bags of 25 kilograms each. There were no compressed biscuits.
For anyone now, food was precious; you couldn’t ask for more.
Then there were oil drums, not the small ones, but large round metal barrels. Two diesel drums were carefully rolled off the car and eventually placed by the roadside.
The unloading was not fast, it took over ten minutes for a dozen people to move two barrels of oil. After putting the oil drums down, a soldier waved towards Gao Yuan’s car, then these people got back into the truck, leaving the supplies right there.
Gao Yuan’s group drove over, stopped, transferred the diesel from the large barrel into smaller ones, and loaded the bags of flour onto their vehicle.
No one felt like talking while working because they could see a city on the highway that was about to be no more.
Gao Yuan let out a heavy sigh again.
Yu Shunzhou walked up to Gao Yuan and whispered, "Another one."
Gao Yuan didn’t say anything, and Yu Shunzhou continued to whisper, "One city after another, just gone like that."
What could be said? There was nothing to say.
Yu Shunzhou sighed, then with a look of dismay, said, "Do you think there will be some new kind of monster appearing this time?"
Gao Yuan still remained silent. Yu Shunzhou rubbed his head, then said with resignation, "Forget it, let’s not talk about it. Even if we knew in advance about the alien invasion, there’s nothing we could do. I keep thinking, if I could be reborn like in the novels and go back to the days before the aliens attacked, what could I do? But after a lot of thinking, there’s just no way."
Gao Yuan suddenly said, "No, there are still things we can do!"
Yu Shunzhou was taken aback. Gao Yuan turned to look at Yu Shunzhou, then spoke softly, "I’ve also thought about this, and if my words could be taken seriously, then I still believe I could do something, at least to help more people survive!"
Yu Shunzhou stared at Gao Yuan in silence. Gao Yuan turned to Zhao Qiang and shouted, "Boss Zhao! We’re going to Dushanbe! We can’t stop the Serpent People from destroying the city, but we can at least help more people in the city survive."
Everyone was looking at Gao Yuan. Gao Yuan took a few steps forward, then continued to shout, "We don’t have to share the city’s fate, but we should at least do something, not just walk away. I think we can help more people in the city survive, right?"
Zhao Qiang still didn’t say anything. Gao Yuan let out a sigh, then with a helpless expression, said, "This time, emotion has overcome my reason. I know we have an important duty, but I still don’t want to just walk away."
Zhao Qiang shrugged his shoulders, then looked at Gao Yuan and said, "You’re the team leader; you call the shots."
