The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse -
Chapter 231 - 227 Intimate
Chapter 231: Chapter 227 Intimate
The car maintained a distance of three to four kilometers behind, as Gao Yuan and Zhao Qiang proceeded on foot, taking a small path that was not even paved with asphalt, but just a sandy dirt road. Still, it would not be a problem for the vehicle.
A journey of thousands of miles, how could they let a bunch of Rebel Forces block their path?
Zhao Qiang appeared completely unfazed. Gao Yuan looked calm as well, but inside, he was somewhat nervous. He wasn’t afraid of zombies, but if someone shot at him, that would really be the end of him.
Worried that someone might shoot without asking questions, when they were about to reach a village in the distance, Gao Yuan whispered, "Should we raise the national flag?"
Zhao Qiang erected the flag he’d been carrying on his shoulder and said, "If the negotiations break down, you run with your speed advantage and don’t worry about me. Remember, never run in a straight line; no matter how fast you are, you’re not faster than a bullet."
"I know, there’s someone there, there really is!"
Gao Yuan noticed figures moving at the entrance of the village and soon enough, a dozen people ran towards them.
All of them were armed, most carrying AK74s, but some had AK47s, and they were all dressed in camo gear, undoubtedly members of the Rebel Forces, not civilians.
Seeing people approaching, Gao Yuan stopped walking until they were surrounded by sixteen individuals.
Gao Yuan called out loudly, "Hello, we are from Shenzhou, on a special mission. I would like to see your commander."
After Gao Yuan finished speaking, Zhao Qiang translated his words into Russian.
The purpose of this translation was merely to convey the message, not to speak on his own behalf. So it was Gao Yuan negotiating, with Zhao Qiang responsible only for translation, not adding his own thoughts. Thus, the words were spoken by Zhao Qiang, but they were definitely Gao Yuan’s sentiments.
A soldier leading the group immediately said, "It was you who attacked our outpost last night!"
After hearing the translation, Gao Yuan looked incredulous and said, "Are you kidding me? We’re from a friendly country, passing through Your Country harmlessly. How could we possibly come into conflict with your forces? This is a misunderstanding. Last night, we were attacked by a large number of zombies, and unfortunately, your outpost was attacked by them too. That’s the truth."
Having finished, Gao Yuan gestured and said, "I think you should take us to see your superior. We have a very important matter to discuss."
No matter what, a field officer wouldn’t be able to decide on his own how to deal with Gao Yuan and his team, so before long, they got their wish and were taken towards the village.
Upon entering the village, Gao Yuan and Zhao Qiang were led to a yard. No one seemed inclined to hit them, but there was no hospitality either—just a dozen people sitting or standing around, keeping watch over them.
After about half an hour, a car drove up and an officer, escorted by several soldiers, entered the yard.
"Who are you and why did you attack us?"
The speaker was a Major. Gao Yuan turned with a smile and said, "Hello, may I ask if you’re the highest commander here?"
"I am. How many people do you have, and where are they? Now you need to explain what happened last night, or we will not hesitate to attack."
Gao Yuan smiled and replied, "We have ten people and carry only a small amount of supplies. We’re in urgent need of water, food, and fuel replenishment. According to the treaty that Your Country has also agreed to and signed with the Blue Star Alliance, Your Country is also obliged to provide the necessary support to combat troops in the war against the Aliens invasion."
The Major’s expression turned sour. With a pleading look, Gao Yuan added, "We’ve brought all the documents; you can check them. Besides, our nations have always had good relations. Even if that weren’t important, in the interests of striking back against the Aliens, please grant us the necessary assistance. It would be greatly appreciated."
Zhao Qiang accurately translated Gao Yuan’s words, and the Major, looking puzzled, asked, "Only ten of you?"
"Oh, of course not when we set out. We started with a large force of more than a hundred, but we’ve had to fight zombies all along the way. Most of our people have been sacrificed, and we’ve discarded our supplies. Now we have food for only ten people for two days, and our fuel is almost gone."
The Major immediately said, "Our resources are extremely tight, but we can still offer you assistance. However, you must submit to an inspection, and if what you say is true, I can agree to resupply you."
Gao Yuan looked at Zhao Qiang and said, "He doesn’t want to resupply us; he probably wants to take our supplies. He hasn’t even asked us what we’re really here to do, so all he’s interested in is our supplies. Don’t talk to me, just make something up."
Zhao Qiang tugged at his shoulder bag and said to the Major, "I have documents right here. Please take a look."
The Major knew that Gao Yuan and Zhao Qiang had been thoroughly searched before his arrival, so no one stopped Zhao Qiang when he reached into his bag, as they knew the two men were unarmed.
As Zhao Qiang made a show of reaching for the documents, the Major muttered a few words, then Zhao Qiang turned to Gao Yuan and said, "He’s spouting a bunch of nonsense. I know he doesn’t want to let us through, but what can we do? Forcing our way through is hardly an option, now that these people are clearly cocksure."
Gao Yuan smiled and said, "The ones who are really confident here are us. Ask him if he knows the patterns of the zombies’ movements? Does he know what zombies do when they hear sounds, or if they’d be attracted here by the explosion of a hand grenade? If he knows, then it’s simple. If he doesn’t, tell him."
Zhao Qiang asked, "What are you planning to do?"
"Just translate exactly what I said."
Zhao Qiang translated Gao Yuan’s words. Then, when the major looked utterly bewildered, Gao Yuan earnestly said, "Boss Zhao, get our people over here. This major is going to show us the way out and escort us."
Zhao Qiang’s expression didn’t change. He really had no idea what Gao Yuan was planning, but he knew that Gao Yuan was about to take some unplanned action, which worried him. However, his excellent composure prevented any change from showing on his face.
After finishing his words, Gao Yuan suddenly lunged forward without warning, covering the three-meter distance in an instant.
Not to mention the major’s guards, even the major himself hadn’t understood what happened when Gao Yuan was already by his side.
He grabbed the rifle in an instant, and that wasn’t all. Gao Yuan also swiftly pulled a hand grenade from the chest pocket of one of the major’s guards.
Holding the AK74, which was already loaded and had the safety off, he stepped behind the major and pulled the pin out of the grenade. Then he wrapped his arm around the major’s neck. After Gao Yuan had done all this, the major realized he was being choked and could barely breathe. Only then did he comprehend that he was being taken hostage.
After speaking, Gao Yuan raised his voice and arrogantly declared, "Nobody move, all of you here are hostages!"
After shouting, Gao Yuan said to Zhao Qiang, "I can’t be bothered to waste words with them. Boss Zhao, tell them, the moment the hand grenade explodes, tens of thousands of zombies will rush over and flood this place. If he doesn’t believe it, let him try. Tell him, it’s not just him being taken as a hostage; it’s all of them."
Zhao Qiang calmly relayed Gao Yuan’s words and then he calmly said, "You should understand by now. Last night’s explosion attracted many zombies. If there is an explosion here, zombies will come to this location. Are you sure you want to risk it for the supplies in our two vehicles? My advice is to stay calm because at least you don’t have to worry about us opening fire. If the zombies come, we’ll all die too."
At least twenty guns were aimed at Gao Yuan, but did he really need to be afraid?
"I really didn’t expect you to think of holding their boss hostage."
Gao Yuan smiled and said, "If I had said it earlier, you wouldn’t have allowed me to come. I just thought, how can we trap these people here? I’d feel it’s not worth spending even a day here. Alright, get everyone over here. You leave with the others, and I’ll follow once you’ve left."
Zhao Qiang said sternly, "No, I’ll stay. You go."
Gao Yuan rolled his eyes and countered, "I don’t mean to sound egotistical, but right now, who can run faster than me? Can you catch up with a car? I can."
Zhao Qiang exhaled deeply. He walked up to a soldier, ignoring the guns aimed at him, and said coldly, "Give me back my stuff. Hand it over!"
Zhao Qiang snatched his walkie-talkie, which he had brought with him and which had been confiscated, from the soldier’s waist. Then he walked up to another soldier, and after getting the walkie-talkie, he clipped it onto Gao Yuan’s waist.
"I better stick with you. If I leave, who will translate for you? If there’s a communication issue, that could really cause trouble."
After finishing, Zhao Qiang turned to the major, who was trying to catch his breath, and said, "You’ll escort us out of here. If we die, we die together. But if we can leave safely, we will naturally let you go. You have many men; we wouldn’t risk getting chased or hurt you. The logic is simple. You should be able to understand it. Also, I’ll remind you again, if the grenade goes off, the zombies will come, and everyone dies. Do you understand?"
Gao Yuan loosened his grip slightly as the major gritted his teeth and said, "Understood!"
Zhao Qiang picked up the walkie-talkie and turned it on, "Come here. Head to the village entrance. A white sedan will guide you through, over."
Having said this, Zhao Qiang addressed the major, "Get in your car, and lead the way. It’s okay if you try something funny. We’re willing to take the risk. Since we’ve made it this far, you shouldn’t doubt our courage and determination."
There was no need for further talk. Those who got it, got it. Those who didn’t, now they had a problem. The fight was on.
For Gao Yuan, this was a gamble, but before laying his bet, he believed his chances of winning were above eighty percent. With those odds, why not take a gamble?
The major got into his car, which already had a driver. Gao Yuan thoughtfully told the major to bring along a guard as well. There was no need to disarm the guard because the biggest deterrent at the moment wasn’t the gun in his hand nor the grenade, but rather the horde of zombies a mere four or five kilometers away.
"After we leave, you can arrange for someone to create noise in the area between the zombies and the city. That way, you can redirect the zombies back to the city rather than them threatening your precious shelter. Understand? It’s actually quite simple. All you need is a basic timed explosive device to do it."
Gao Yuan even thoughtfully instructed the major on how he might solve the predicament without having to abandon his current base and flee. While he was explaining, their two vehicles had already arrived at the entrance of the village.
Thus, Gao Yuan said to the major, "You must be familiar with the terrain. Show us a safe route, and then we’ll talk on the way. I have a lot of experience dealing with zombies, you won’t have any problems if you listen to me."
