The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse -
Chapter 224 - 220 Bandits
Chapter 224: Chapter 220 Bandits
What’s going on here? We’re supposed to be the experts at capturing prisoners, so how come you show up and just like that, knock four of them down? How is it so fast? You’re so good at this, it’s making me feel pretty unbalanced.
This is what Li Jingang wanted to say, thousands of words condensed into one phrase, damn it!
All six were wearing camouflage uniforms without insignia, so their ranks were not visible, and each of them carried an AK rifle in their hands.
As Gao Yuan was sizing up these six individuals who were definitely soldiers, Panxin murmured, "Why are they all using AK74s?"
Gao Yuan hadn’t even recognized whether these people were using AK47s or AK74s.
Zhao Qiang came up from behind and said, "Let’s take them over first, then we’ll have a quick interrogation."
Gao Yuan grabbed one in each hand, hoisting the people he had knocked out from the ground, holding onto the clothes on their chests as if he were carrying goods, and walked towards the gas station.
And after Gao Yuan had dragged the people up, Panxin seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and said, "The AK47s are carried on their backs, that’s right."
After Gao Yuan lifted the captives, two rifles slumped down from their backs, both AK47s.
Four men took six people back. Gao Yuan carried the two who were unconscious; however, there were still two who were awake.
In a low voice, Li Jingang said in English, "I’m going to let you go. If you dare to scream, I’ll break your neck, got it?"
The person whose mouth Li Jingang was covering was still struggling, so Li Jingang simply squeezed tighter with his arm, and the captive, who had his neck trapped between Li Jingang’s arm, soon stopped struggling and fainted with his head lolling to the side.
Zhao Qiang said in Russian on the side, "Don’t shout, don’t move, or I’ll kill you, understand?"
The man Panxin had under control stopped struggling immediately, and as Panxin slowly released his arm, Zhao Qiang continued in Russian, "You understand Russian, good. Then do exactly as I say. Now, take your companions and follow us, quickly!"
Five out of the six captives had fainted. Gao Yuan himself carried two, and there were three more unconscious captives. They had the one awake carry one, Li Jingang and Panxin took another, and Zhao Qiang, with his hands free, leisurely followed them back to the gas station.
Capturing prisoners meant having to interrogate them; otherwise, what was the point of taking them alive? Zhao Qiang pulled the one that was awake to the side, and in a low voice, he said, "Get Li Yang to come down and wake one up for interrogation; I’ll start with this one."
Pushing the captive to an open area, Zhao Qiang first drew his pistol and pressed it to the captive’s forehead, asked in Russian, "Cold?"
The captive, still in shock, faced Zhao Qiang’s strange question and instinctively nodded, but when his nod brought his head into contact with the barrel of the gun, he immediately said, "Cold."
"But the bullet is very hot, searing hot. A bullet fired into your brain will be extremely painful, but the good news is the pain will be brief. Do you want to give it a try?"
"I do not."
Zhao Qiang put the pistol away and said in a low voice, "I will ask all questions only once, but remember this, I will interrogate all six of you, and if your answers align, you’ll all be fine. If your answer differs from the other five, then you’re as good as dead, understood?"
The captive said in a low voice in Russian, "Understood."
"Good, your name."
"Abat Meyef."
"Age."
"26."
"Rank."
"Sergeant."
"What unit."
"Border checkpoint..."
Zhao Qiang asked quickly and continued, "Where do you live."
"In a civilian house near the highway to the north..."
"How many people in total, apart from you six."
"Just the six of us, after the disaster struck, most people turned into zombies."
"Why did you attack us?"
"We didn’t mean to attack you, we just wanted to see who had come, to fulfill our duty as..."
Zhao Qiang said coldly, "Just a reminder, your answer counts for only one-sixth. If the answers from the other five don’t match yours, you’re a dead man."
"We need food, medicine. We saw vehicles passing by during the day, and they stopped at this gas station, so we decided to come over at night to check it out, because we found a truck, we thought maybe someone was transporting supplies..."
Zhao Qiang said in a low voice, "Just to check? Never mind, you don’t have to answer that. Tell me, why don’t you leave this place."
"Don’t know where to go, don’t know where we can go."
"Did you kill the people at this gas station, answer me!"
The captive was silent for a long time before Zhao Qiang said softly, "We’re just passing through, we don’t want to judge anyone, but I need to know what happened. Did you kill the people at this gas station, just answer me yes or no."
The captive nodded silently, then whispered, "We... needed food."
"Alright, you don’t need to say any more."
Zhao Qiang gestured for Li Jingang to come over and then said, "Keep an eye on him, bring over the second one."
Another captive was awoken, and Zhao Qiang asked in Russian, "Do you understand Russian?"
"Yes."
"Good, answer my questions. If your answers don’t match the others, you’re a goner."
Zhao Qiang skillfully used the prisoners’ dilemma. Unless these captives had agreed on their story very early on and had worked out how to answer all questions, they had no choice but to tell the truth. With six captives, none dared guarantee the others wouldn’t reveal the truth.
In just half an hour, Zhao Qiang returned to Gao Yuan’s side and whispered, "Six people in total, no others. They weren’t from the same unit before, some were from the border checkpoint, others from border outposts, but after the disaster, they came together. After a tough time, using up all their supplies, they began to kill and rob. By that time, it was impossible to rob anything without killing."
Gao Yuan nodded and Zhao Qiang continued, "They’ve killed between twenty to thirty people. The numbers aren’t exactly consistent, but it doesn’t matter. In general, these people have completely degenerated, turning their guns on the civilians they were meant to protect. In my view, such acts deserve death."
Gao Yuan nodded and said, "Uh-huh, they deserve it, then don’t let them go."
"Alright, leave it to me. Keep two on watch, switch every two hours. The rest of you, get some sleep."
Gao Yuan whispered, "Aren’t we going to ask about anything else?"
"Nothing else to ask, communication has been down for a while, they don’t know any valuable information. Now, call your men down and give them a task."
Yu Shunzhou and Nie Erlong came down from the roof. Zhao Qiang looked at the two men, gestured behind him, and said, "There are six of them back there. They don’t deserve to be called soldiers, just pure bandits. I have a task for you. Go and deal with those six men. Have knives? Put down the guns, use knives, go."
