Chapter 60: I AM SICK I FEEL LIKE DYING SKIP IT

Chen Yu and Hui’er soared once more through the skies—this time above the vast neutral zone known as the Sky Vein Range, a sprawling network of floating isles, jagged peaks, and mystical storms that divided the territories of humans, demons, and beasts. After gaining the tentative support of both the Demon King and Beast Sovereign, Chen Yu had only one goal left for now: to investigate the Sky Citadel rumored to be the ancient remnant of a time before the system existed.

The wind screamed past as their wyvern mount, scales glimmering under the sunlight, carried them toward the peak of the highest island—a floating landmass shrouded in clouds and storms. It was a place many called suicide to approach.

But Chen Yu wasn’t like most.

He had felt a pulse.

A vibration through the system.

Something... calling him.

As they neared the Sky Citadel, Hui’er narrowed her crimson eyes. "There’s something ancient here. My blood feels it. A presence older than the Demon King."

Chen Yu nodded. "I felt it ever since I left the beast lands. It’s like something in the system is resisting me. And whatever’s up there—it’s important."

The wyvern let out a guttural growl and suddenly stalled midair, refusing to go closer. It roared, thrashed, then turned back without waiting for an order.

"It’s too afraid to continue," Hui’er said grimly.

"Then we climb the rest on our own."

They landed on the nearest rocky outcropping. The floating island loomed above, separated from them by a stretch of sky and fractured platforms suspended in midair. Narrow pathways, ancient floating runes, and chaotic winds made it a death trap for ordinary explorers.

But Chen Yu wasn’t ordinary.

They leapt.

One platform to another.

Dodging blasts of storm energy and weaving through ancient, flickering arcane barriers, the duo pressed forward. Chen Yu’s foot nearly slipped once, but Hui’er caught his wrist with lightning speed.

"Careful, human. If you fall, I’m not diving after you."

"You’d miss me."

She clicked her tongue and looked away, but her grip lingered a moment longer than necessary.

Finally, after what felt like hours, they reached the top.

The Sky Citadel stood like a forgotten god. Massive, partially ruined towers of white stone floated disconnectedly above the clouds. Arcs of ancient magic still rippled across broken bridges and shattered obelisks. At the center was a crystalline spire, broken at the top but still humming with power.

They entered through what remained of a shattered gate.

Inside, it was cold. Not in temperature—but in time. The walls were etched with strange glyphs, and murals covered the ceiling, depicting three figures—one human, one beast, one demon—standing together against a shadow that spanned the heavens.

"So it’s true," Chen Yu muttered. "There was once an alliance... a true one."

Hui’er’s eyes widened. "That shadow. It matches the pressure I felt when I was still trapped in the challenge."

The crystal spire suddenly pulsed. A deep hum echoed through the ruins.

Then the voice came.

"Another bearer of the system... but different. One who sees past the veil."

Chen Yu flinched. The voice wasn’t coming from a speaker or person—it echoed directly in his mind.

"Who are you?" he asked aloud.

"I am the last remnant of the True System—the Origin. The one before the Cage was placed."

Hui’er bristled. "What cage?"

Chen Yu’s mind raced. "Do you mean... this system that we all use, it isn’t the original?"

"No. It is a copy. A corrupted chain imposed upon this realm by the Ascended. The cycle of merging Earths, the battles of races, the leveling and challenges—it’s all orchestrated to feed something greater. You have already begun to break it."

"Ascended... like the Demon King tried to become?" Chen Yu asked.

"Yes. He reached the threshold but was silenced before he could complete it. The entity behind the system does not tolerate free will beyond its purpose."

The spire’s glow intensified.

"You are the anomaly, Chen Yu. You have awakened fragments of the Origin System. You are not bound by the same rules. That is why you retain memories. That is why the system reacts to you differently."

Chen Yu took a deep breath. "Then tell me—how do I defeat the one controlling all of this?"

The voice was silent for a long moment.

Then, slowly, it answered.

"You must locate the Three Origin Keys—relics scattered across the merged realms. Each key is protected by trials and bound to a race. You have already earned the first: the Demon’s Oath, through Hui’er."

Hui’er blinked. "Me?"

"The contract you formed with her was deeper than you knew. Her soul was chosen to bear the essence of her race."

Chen Yu looked at her, surprised, and she turned her head away. "Don’t get ideas. It’s just coincidence."

"Yeah, sure."

"The next key lies within the human capital. But be warned—those who guard it are blind to the truth. They serve the corrupted system. And they will kill to protect it."

Chen Yu’s eyes narrowed. "Then I’ll make them see. Even if I have to break the sky."

The crystal dimmed.

The voice faded.

But something new appeared—a notification on his screen.

[Origin Key 1 Acquired]

[Hidden Quest Updated: Break the Cycle]

[New Objective: Retrieve the Human Origin Key from the Capital Vaults]

Hui’er stood beside him, silent for a while.

Then, softly, she spoke. "You’re really going to go to the capital? The place where humans train to kill anything non-human?"

"Yes. Because if I don’t, this cycle will continue. And next time, none of us might survive."

She didn’t speak for a while.

Then: "Fine. But if you die, I’m dragging your soul back to punch you."

He chuckled. "Deal."

They turned to leave the citadel.

But the moment they stepped outside, a sudden pulse of darkness erupted across the sky.

A rift had formed—tearing through the clouds like a wound.

Chen Yu’s system flashed again.

[Warning: Unknown entity detected near the capital.]

[Projected Timeline Disruption Detected.]

[Priority Alert: Reality Anchor weakening in Sector 5.]

Hui’er’s eyes went cold. "Something’s coming."

"No... something’s already there."

They mounted the wyvern again, now hovering nearby as if called by fate.

As they soared away from the Sky Citadel, Chen Yu’s heart pounded.

The game was no longer just about power.

It was about truth. Deception. Sacrifice.

The final war might not be between races—

—but between freedom and control.

And he had chosen his side.
