Chapter 91: 91. Won, where’s the bet?
But his smile quickly faded as he saw Shen Qinglan abruptly turn the steering wheel. The car, initially heading straight for the guardrail, violently swerved, the vehicle performing a stunning tail flick—a beautiful drift. Following that, the audience witnessed an incredible display of successive drifting maneuvers.
Gu Yang and Gu Kai, who had been keeping a close watch on Shen Qinglan, had their expressions change drastically.
"What does she want to do?" Gu Yang screamed.
Gu Kai’s eyes were deep and heavy, his heart tightly twisted together, he could even hear the sound of his blood pressure soaring.
"Oh my God." Gu Yang’s mouth hung open, watching Shen Qinglan’s beautiful drift with disbelief, but the show wasn’t over yet. With three continuous drifts through the series of bends, her speed hadn’t decreased from start to finish.
His mouth could now fit an egg, as he tugged on Gu Kai’s arm, "Gu Kai, tell me, am I dreaming?"
Gu Kai didn’t notice the pain in his arm, as he was just as shocked by Shen Qinglan.
"Didn’t you say little sister-in-law has never raced before?" asked Gu Kai heavily. If this was someone who had never raced, what did that make them?
"She... she told me that," Gu Yang stammered, now fully aware that he had been duped by Shen Qinglan.
If they had known her skills were this good, they wouldn’t have worried at all and just waited to collect the money.
Gu Yang felt a twinge of regret, wondering if 50 million was too little a bet. If they had known then what they knew now, they should have bet a billion.
"Then you’d have to come up with a billion," Gu Kai spoke icily, as Gu Yang had inadvertently revealed his innermost thoughts.
The commentator continued broadcasting the race, but attention had now shifted to Shen Qinglan, the dark horse.
On the track, Shen Qinglan sped into the fifth lap faster than Lin Hao. Lin Hao, snapping out of his initial shock with a terrible expression, floored the gas pedal to catch up.
But by then, Shen Qinglan was no longer looking at Lin Hao. Her gaze was fixed on the leading red race car, her foot gradually pressing harder, the accelerator floored, and the speed of the car continued to surge—one car, two cars, three cars...
Gradually, apart from the initial two vehicles, all others were left behind by her. The first two cars clung to each other until they suddenly spotted a black horse charging up from behind. Hit by a sense of crisis, the man in the black car following the red one glinted with determination, slightly turning the wheel, his car swerved, creating a distance from the red car but effectively blocking Shen Qinglan’s path. If Shen Qinglan wanted to pass, she would have to fly over the two cars.
Numbers on Shen Qinglan’s dashboard were still climbing, and a rare look of excitement appeared on her cool face, as if all the blood in her body was boiling.
Shen Qinglan’s expression was slightly dazed, as if the sensation of her blood boiling was a distant memory, so far away that she believed it to be nothing more than a dream.
Touching the familiar steering wheel, a touch of madness flickered in Shen Qinglan’s eyes. Her speed soared again, and the distance between the blue and black cars quickly narrowed. It looked like a collision was imminent, and heart-wrenching screams erupted from the stands. Many even closed their eyes, imagining the gruesome scene that would follow.
But what came was not screams of terror but a tidal wave of cheers. Shen Qinglan’s car, just a second before hitting the black car, tilted suddenly and flew through the narrow gap between the black and red cars, then landed smoothly.
Accelerating, she shot straight for the finish line, surrounded by cheers like the tide.
When Shen Qinglan got out of the car, Gu Yang and Gu Kai approached her.
"Little sister-in-law, you were so cool. I had no idea you were such a skilled driver," Gu Yang said excitedly, though his tone was full of reproach.
"You asked me if I had ever competed," Shen Qinglan said flatly. Despite the intense race, her face showed no sign of fluctuation, not even a change in complexion from before the race.
"You’re playing me!" Lin Hao walked over with a dark expression, knowing he had been tricked by Shen Qinglan it was obvious to him now.
Thinking back to the first four rounds where Shen Qinglan had feigned weakness on purpose, Lin Hao’s teeth ground together. He had always been the one doing the fooling; he had never been made a fool by anyone else, let alone by a woman.
"You simply lost because your skills were inferior, and now you have the nerve to accuse me of trickery, Lin Hao? Where’s your shame?" Gu Yang spoke up.
Although Gu Kai didn’t say a word, he stood by Shen Qinglan’s side in a protective stance, coldly watching Lin Hao.
"A bet’s a bet; you lost," Shen Qinglan said calmly to Lin Hao.
A flash of ruthlessness passed through Lin Hao’s eyes as he took a check from his pocket and threw it over, "Fifty million, not a penny less." He then intended to leave.
"Wait a minute," Shen Qinglan spoke up.
"What else do you want?" Lin Hao asked, clearly impatient.
"Have you forgotten something?" Shen Qinglan reminded him.
Lin Hao’s face changed color. Of course, he hadn’t forgotten about the bet and what he had said. He thought that as long as he didn’t bring it up, the matter would be forgotten, especially since he had paid the fifty million.
"Yeah, Lin Hao, a bet’s a bet. Didn’t someone just boast about how there was nothing they were afraid to gamble on? Now that you’ve lost, you want to weasel out?" Gu Yang gloated.
Lin Hao glared fiercely at Gu Yang, "Gu Yang, don’t you dare go too far."
Gu Yang scoffed, "I’m going too far? Lin Hao, let me ask you, if we had lost today, would you have let it go?"
Of course not. Lin Hao subconsciously thought that if he had won, he would’ve made sure to give this beauty a stern "loving" reminder of his victory.
The thing is, it’s one thing for him to think that way; but if anyone dared do that to him, Lin Hao would have the urge to kill them.
Gu Yang clearly knew what Lin Hao was thinking and spoke up coldly, "Young Master Lin, shall I remind you of what you said?"
His gaze casually swept over Lin Hao’s knees.
Lin Hao’s face grew darker as he ignored Gu Yang and stared directly at Shen Qinglan, "Beauty, always leave a little room for leniency, so we can meet on good terms another day."
His eyes were filled with stark threat.
Shen Qinglan remained unphased, "As for me, I prefer to repay grievances directly. I don’t believe in repaying evil with kindness."
At that, Lin Hao’s expression turned even darker than the bottom of a pot.
"Aren’t you afraid of retaliation from the Lin Family?" Lin Hao now openly threatened.
Gu Yang and Gu Kai couldn’t help but laugh when they heard this. If it was someone else, they might have gotten scared after such words, but Shen Qinglan? Not to mention the Fu Family and Shen Family, just Shen Junyu alone was enough to give the Lin Family a run for their money.
