Chapter 77: 77. Moved back to the dorm to treat insomnia (3am, PK for collection)

By the time Qinglan came back from her morning jog, Shen Junyu had already left. She returned to her room to take a shower before heading to school.

It had been a long time since she last visited the school; even just seeing the bustling students gave Qinglan a momentary daze. She slowly walked along the tree-lined path.

"Shen, long time no see. You finally made it to school," Yan Shengyu’s voice emerged from one side. Qinglan turned her head to see Yan Shengyu smiling brilliantly at her, holding several textbooks in his hands.

"Shen, I apologize for the trouble I caused you last time," Yan Shengyu sincerely said. He only learned about the campus forum incident later. At that time, he wanted to find Qinglan to explain, but she had already vanished from the school. Although he got her contact information from a classmate, she hung up as soon as he got through, and subsequent calls were blocked. That’s when Yan Shengyu realized he had been blacklisted.

For the first time, Yan Shengyu recognized that perhaps he was somewhat of an annoyance.

Upon hearing this, Qinglan’s expression remained unchanged, her peripheral vision catching someone holding a phone and looking in their direction. She spoke coldly, "Knowing that you are a troublemaker, you should stay away from me."

Yan Shengyu was taken aback, seemingly unprepared for Qinglan’s blunt words, and for a moment he didn’t know how to respond, coming to a halt.

Qinglan continued walking forward. Her target was the dormitory; starting tonight, she planned to stay at school for a while. She didn’t like the Shen Family, but she had trouble falling asleep at Jiangxin Garden. Perhaps the dormitory was a good choice.

Yan Shengyu quickly caught up again, having seemingly forgotten Qinglan’s cold demeanor, "Shen, it’s my birthday this weekend. I’m planning to invite a few friends to hang out, and I want you to come too."

Qinglan refused, "We’re not close."

Yan Shengyu awkwardly touched his nose. The feeling of being rejected repeatedly was genuinely unpleasant. He had approached Qinglan last time due to a bet with his roommate, which ended up causing her trouble. For that he felt apologetic, and this time he was sincerely inviting her, but it seemed she was not interested.

Watching Qinglan’s retreating figure, Yan Shengyu walked away with regret.

Uninterrupted by others, Qinglan smoothly returned to her dormitory. Having not lived at the school for a while, the bedding needed to be switched and cleaned. She put on the spare ones and took the used ones to be washed. When Qinglan returned, she finally saw Fang Tong, whom she had not seen for a long time.

Fang Tong had returned to the dormitory since yesterday as her professional internship had ended.

"Qinglan, you’re back too," Fang Tong greeted her with a smile.

Qinglan faintly smiled, "Long time no see. Was your internship a success?"

Fang Tong chuckled, "Pretty smooth, but unfortunately, I couldn’t continue with the Junlan Group. We’ll be busy writing our thesis now, and I still need to earn two innovation credits, so I joined a project with the juniors. I’ll have to stay at school and won’t be able to go to work."

"By the way, how are your credits going?"

"I only have my thesis defense left," Qinglan said without mentioning that she actually already had enough credits, and her thesis was completed—only her defense remained. The other students probably hadn’t even started their foreign language translation.

"What about your internship paper?"

"I’ve sent it to my supervisor’s email."

Fang Tong’s eyes lit up, "Can I take a look at yours? I’ve been writing this past couple of days, but God knows I hate writing this stuff. Look, I’ve even gone bald in one spot," she said, pointing at the top of her head.

"Sure, I’ll send it to you later," Qinglan didn’t refuse.

"Qinglan, you’re the best. I’ll treat you to dinner tonight, and you can’t refuse."

"Okay, but I’m picking the place."

"No problem. Oh, by the way, when is Xiao Xuan coming back? Her internship defense is next week," Fang Tong remembered Yu Xiaoxuan, who was still in Jinning City.

Yu Xiaoxuan’s participation in the Shengxuan’s audition was no secret at B University, and many knew she had passed, landing a role in Shengxuan’s annual big show. As a result, Yu Xiaoxuan became somewhat of a celebrity at B University.

"I spoke to Xiao Xuan yesterday. She said her shooting will wrap up very soon. At the latest, she’ll be back the day after tomorrow, in time for the internship defense," Qinglan explained.

Fang Tong felt relieved, "That’s good to hear. If she doesn’t pass the defense, she won’t get the credits. Qinglan, where have you been these past two months? You’ve been so elusive; we couldn’t even contact you."

Qinglan smiled faintly, "Someone in my family was ill, so I’ve been taking care of them."

She spoke vaguely, and Fang Tong assumed it was one of Qinglan’s relatives, never guessing that Qinglan not only had a partner but was also a married woman.

Qinglan wore a marriage ring custom-made by Fu Hengyi around her neck, but the chain was long enough to hide the ring perfectly beneath her clothes, unseen by Fang Tong.

"Is it serious?" Concern filled Fang Tong’s eyes. She knew that Qinglan’s grandmother had passed away during the summer break—a fact Xiaoxuan had told her.

Qinglan shook her head with a light smile, "It has been taken care of."

"That’s a relief. Qinglan, if you need any help, you must tell me," Fang Tong urged. As roommates for three years, even though Qinglan preferred solitude and often seemed distant, she had always been good to her friends. Whether it was toward Fang Tong or Xiao Xuan, Qinglan had always played the role of the caretaker.

Qinglan felt warmth in her heart, "Alright."

After saying so much, Fang Tong seemed only now to notice Qinglan tidying up the dormitory, "Qinglan, are you staying in the dormitory tonight? Not going home?"

"Yeah, my family went out of town for work. Sleeping alone at home leads to insomnia."

Fang Tong had never heard of someone having insomnia just from sleeping alone at home, especially when the one saying it was Qinglan. She had a strange expression, and somehow the statement felt odd.

Qinglan didn’t want to elaborate, quickly changing the subject, "Is your boyfriend still with Junlan Group?"

Mentioning this, the smile on Fang Tong’s face grew brighter, "Yes, Ding Minghui is working very hard. His supervisor really appreciates him. If he weren’t still studying, his boss might have offered him a permanent position by now."

Ding Minghui was someone Qinglan had met a few times; he was tall and slim with a scholarly appearance. He and Fang Tong had been together since their freshman year and had always had a strong relationship.

"Does Ding Minghui plan to stay in Beijing?" Ding Minghui was from another province, reportedly from a rural background with modest means.

"Yeah, he says he wants to stay in Beijing to be with me. I was thinking of taking him home at the end of the year, but he wants to make some achievements before he visits with me, so my parents can be assured," Fang Tong shared, her face radiating sweetness.
