The two of them quietly ate their noodles. The taste of the noodles wasn’t particularly good, just average, but Fu Hengyi ate with great relish, as if it was the best noodle dish in the world. His eyes occasionally swept over Shen Qinglan.
Shen Qinglan ate her noodles with a calm expression, but she dared not look up at Fu Hengyi.
"When we finish eating, let’s go back to the compound and visit the two grandfathers," Fu Hengyi said.
Shen Qinglan nodded, "Okay."
Her original plan to visit Shen Junyu’s company today was put on hold because of Fu Hengyi’s unexpected return.
"I can rest for three days this time. Is there anywhere special you want to go or anything special you want to do?" Fu Hengyi quietly asked Shen Qinglan.
Hearing this, Shen Qinglan thought for a while and shook her head, "Not for now."
Fu Hengyi wasn’t disappointed. He simply nodded, "Then let’s follow my arrangement."
Shen Qinglan thought it’s fine.
Fu Hengyi washed the dishes and Shen Qinglan returned to the bedroom, tossing Fu Hengyi’s clothes into the washing machine and tidying up the bedroom a bit.
Afterward, the two of them drove back to the compound.
Old Sir Fu was very happy to see his grandson returning and asked Sister-in-law Zhao to make something delicious for the two of them.
"How many days will you be home this time?" Old Sir Fu asked his grandson.
"Three days."
"Then spend good time with Qinglan. You stay in the army all the time. When you finally come back, you need to spend more time with your wife. It’s not easy for her to be alone," Old Sir Fu said earnestly for once.
"As long as you don’t mind me having a wife and forgetting about my grandfather," Fu Hengyi said calmly.
Old Sir Fu glared, "Do you think your grandfather is such an unreasonable person?!"
Fu Hengyi shook his head. Old Sir Fu was satisfied, stroking his white beard and happily went off to play chess with Shen Qinglan.
Halfway through the game, Old Sir Fu paused, scanning Shen Qinglan’s neck repeatedly. Seeing the faint marks there, his eyes lit up.
Shen Qinglan was bewildered by Old Sir Fu’s gaze, "Grandfather, what’s wrong?"
Old Sir Fu grinned like an old fox, "Nothing, nothing. Grandfather is just happy." He didn’t say what he was happy about, just kept chuckling to himself.
Shen Qinglan was completely puzzled.
Old Sir Fu tossed his chess piece aside, "No more, no more. You don’t seem well. Did you not sleep well last night?"
Shen Qinglan touched her face. Was it that obvious? She looked in the mirror before going out and her complexion was okay.
Old Sir Fu assumed they hadn’t slept well because they had overexerted themselves last night. Being separated for a while only made youthful couples more passionate. It’s understandable.
Old Sir Fu believed he had guessed the truth, smiling like a blooming chrysanthemum. He urged Shen Qinglan to go rest.
"It’s still early for lunch. Go take a nap. When it’s lunchtime, I’ll let Hengyi come call you. In the future, take more sleep at home if you can’t get up in the morning; don’t wake up so early, okay?"
As he spoke, his gaze swept over Shen Qinglan’s stomach, smiling. His fair and tender great-grandchild wasn’t far off.
Shen Qinglan now understood, wanting to explain but not knowing how to start. So she stiffly went into Fu Hengyi’s bedroom.
Lying on Fu Hengyi’s bed, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Her mind unconsciously replayed the scene in the bedroom that morning.
Shen Qinglan covered her flushed face, placing her hand over her eyes, silently bitterly smiling. She was losing her self-control more and more, to actually be captivated by a man’s looks.
"Grandfather, finished so quickly?" Downstairs, Fu Hengyi was reading the newspaper when he saw Old Sir Fu coming down alone and asked.
Old Sir Fu was humming a little tune, clearly in a good mood, looking at his grandson with satisfaction, "No more, your granddaughter-in-law is tired and needs a good rest. Hengyi, take it easy in the future, don’t exhaust your wife, okay? If she’s tired, let her rest more. Don’t be like a rough man."
Fu Hengyi: ... I am a rough man by nature.
"Xiao Zhao, make some nourishing soup for the young couple at noon."
Old Sir Fu shouted towards the kitchen and then quietly murmured, "Being young is good, they can still go at it. A good thing! If they don’t, who knows when I’ll see my great-grandchild?"
Fu Hengyi smiled wryly, knowing his grandfather misunderstood, and didn’t explain.
Knowing Shen Qinglan was resting, Fu Hengyi didn’t go up to disturb her and instead went to the Shen Family.
"Hengyi, you’re here." Shen Xitong was about to go out, but seeing Fu Hengyi, she put her bag down and looked at him with a resentful face.
Fu Hengyi just nodded lightly as a greeting and walked past her.
"Hengyi." Shen Xitong stopped him, "Are you truly sincere in marrying Qinglan?"
Fu Hengyi stopped and looked at Shen Xitong, "Do you think there’s anyone who can force me to do something I don’t want to?" The implication being that marrying Shen Qinglan was his own intention.
A look of hurt flashed across Shen Xitong’s face, her eyes even reddened, "You know... you know how I feel about you..."
Fu Hengyi frowned, looking at the woman before him who seemed on the verge of speaking but was hurt, and felt a bit impatient.
"If you have something to say, then say it."
Shen Xitong looked at him but didn’t speak.
Fu Hengyi turned to leave.
"Fu Hengyi, do you really not know I love you? I’ve loved you since the first time I saw you. I’ve tried so hard to make myself so outstanding, hoping that one day I could be worthy of you. Can’t you see my efforts?"
"I don’t think I’ve ever given you any improper hints," Fu Hengyi’s cold voice came, making Shen Xitong’s face instantly pale.
"No, it’s not like that. You care about me, don’t you remember when I was bullied by boys in the courtyard when we were young? You passed by and helped me teach them a lesson. If you didn’t like me, why would you help me? Is it because you’re married to Qinglan that you don’t dare to admit it?"
Fu Hengyi had no recollection of the incident Shen Xitong mentioned, "That was just a casual act. I would have done the same for anyone."
Shen Xitong looked at him in disbelief, was about to say something but faced Old Sir Shen’s eagle-like gaze, "What are you arguing about?"
Shen Xitong instantly turned pale. She wasn’t sure how much Old Sir Shen heard of their conversation, and she kept her head down, silent.
"Grandfather." Fu Hengyi called out.
Old Sir Shen nodded and looked at Shen Xitong, "Didn’t your mother say you had an appointment for lunch today? Why are you still home? You’re a girl, but you can’t be late. Keeping people waiting is very impolite."
"I—I only stopped to greet Heng...my brother-in-law when I saw him coming, I’m leaving now." With that, she picked up her bag and hurried out.
