Chapter 412: 414. Ran away (Second update)
Shen Qinglan knew that Yan Anbang was critically injured but not dead, yet when he would wake up was uncertain, and she felt something akin to displeasure in her heart.
"An, this time, letting Qin Yan escape, it will be difficult to catch her again," Jin Enxi said, her tone full of annoyance.
Shen Qinglan’s expression remained indifferent, and nothing on her face gave away what she was thinking. "Is everything ready?"
Jin Enxi was startled, then nodded. "Everything is ready, but An, let just the few of us go. You should stay behind."
Their pursuit of Qin Yan’s trail had led them to a general direction, but the specifics were still unknown. What if this was another one of Qin Yan’s traps?
"I’m coming with you," Shen Qinglan stated. Qin Yan was a difficult adversary, but regardless of whether it was a trap or not, she had to go. She wouldn’t be able to truly let her guard down until this great threat was eliminated.
Jin Enxi couldn’t stop Shen Qinglan’s decision, but when they arrived at the location, it was evident that a brutal battle had taken place. Bloodstains were everywhere, yet Qin Yan was nowhere to be seen.
"An, someone got here before us," Eden remarked as he surveyed the chaotic scene.
Shen Qinglan’s beautiful eyes flickered, guessing who it could be, but unsure if Qin Yan had ended up in their hands. Before she could continue her thoughts, her phone rang; it was Allen calling.
"Xiaoqi, Qin Yan has escaped," Allen’s cold voice came through the phone, his anger palpable even without close listening. "But she won’t be causing trouble anytime soon." Although they hadn’t captured Qin Yan this time, Allen’s forces had decimated a significant number of her people, even storming her stronghold on the island and reducing her forces by more than sixty percent.
"Thank you," Shen Qinglan said simply, a phrase that instantly softened Allen’s eyes.
Even without asking, Shen Qinglan could tell from Allen’s following words that Qin Yan hadn’t come out on top. She just didn’t know where Qin Yan had run off to.
"Xiaoqi, I’ve already told you, I can give you everything you want. You don’t need to thank me," Allen said softly before hanging up without waiting for Shen Qinglan to respond.
He clutched his chest and suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood. Peter stepped forward to help him sit down. "You’re injured like this, and you still worry about others. You’ve really done it," he said.
Allen’s face was stern, his complexion pale. "These are not your concerns. Housekeeper, have we found Qin Yan’s whereabouts?"
The housekeeper shook his head. "We haven’t found her."
"Hmph, if we haven’t found her, then keep looking. She’s half-dead; I want to see where she can hide."
"Young Master, we’ve already lost nearly half our strength this time. I’m afraid..."
"Spare no expense. Do I need to repeat myself?" Allen’s expression was displeased.
The housekeeper bit his lip. "I understand, Young Master."
After the housekeeper left, Peter took out a syringe. "Enough, don’t talk. Do you really want to die? For a woman who doesn’t love you, you’re almost throwing your life away, and she doesn’t even know. Allen, you’re definitely the biggest fool I’ve seen."
Allen’s eyes were closed, his body wrapped in bandages.
Ever since the day he met Shen Qinglan, he had set up a spider web of traps all over Beijing. However, he and Shen Qinglan were both wrong; they hadn’t expected Qin Yan’s first move to be going after Yan Anbang, a woman truly unpredictable.
When Allen arrived at the Yan Family home, Qin Yan’s people were attempting to murder Yan Anbang. After a nearly all-night battle, Qin Yan still managed to escape.
"Allen, this time you must recover properly, or you’ll really lose your life," Peter said sternly.
"I know. Are you sure you’ve injected the substance into Qin Yan’s body?"
"You don’t trust me?" Peter countered.
Allen said nothing more, but Peter added, "The injection was done, but it wasn’t a large amount. The virus acts slowly, and it will probably take some time to manifest. Furthermore, each individual’s constitution varies, and so will the symptoms. I haven’t experimented on humans before, so I can’t guarantee the outcome."
"As long as it’s lethal, that’s enough," Allen said coldly. Qin Yan would never guess that Allen’s final strike wasn’t to immediately take her life but to inject an unknown virus into her body.
"Forget all this and rest," Peter urged him.
"I will sleep now. You can go out," Allen said.
Peter gave him a look and walked out.

Beijing, when Qinglan and a few others returned, they saw Fu Hengyi. His expression was indifferent as he glanced at Shen Qinglan before turning to leave.
Shen Qinglan’s expression changed slightly, she handed her things to Jin Enxi and quickly chased after him.
"Fu Hengyi, wait for me."
Far from waiting for her, Fu Hengyi quickened his pace instead.
"Fu Hengyi," Shen Qinglan called out from behind.
Fu Hengyi got into the car but didn’t start it; he waited until Shen Qinglan got into the car before starting the engine.
Throughout the trip, Fu Hengyi kept a cold face; Shen Qinglan tried to talk to him several times but was defeated by his silence.
"Fu Hengyi, let’s talk," Shen Qinglan spoke softly, her tone serious.
As the car turned a corner, Shen Qinglan’s hand covered Fu Hengyi’s, "I said we need to talk." Seeing that Fu Hengyi ignored her, Shen Qinglan applied pressure, the car swerved, Fu Hengyi’s expression shifted, and he quickly steered the car to a stop by the side of the road.
He looked at Shen Qinglan coldly, his face sinking, "Do you not realize how dangerous that was? What if you had gotten hurt? You may not care about yourself, but do you think no one else does? When will you take my words to heart, Shen Qinglan, and think of me before you act..."
Shen Qinglan listened quietly to Fu Hengyi, not retorting, until he was finished, then she softly said, "If you’re still angry, you can continue to scold me."
A flash of anger passed through Fu Hengyi’s eyes, and he pounded his fist on the steering wheel. Shen Qinglan’s expression changed, "Fu Hengyi." She took his hand to examine it, and indeed, it was red.
A hint of sorrow appeared in her eyes, "Fu Hengyi, you can scold me if you’re angry."
Fu Hengyi looked at her intently, "Does it pain your heart to see me like this? Then can you imagine how I felt when I learned you went alone to find Qin Yan?"
Guilt flickered across Shen Qinglan’s eyes, "Fu Hengyi, I’m sorry."
"Shen Qinglan, you’re always trying to keep me out of it, afraid of ensnaring me, but have you ever thought about it from my perspective? You are my wife, and it is my duty to protect you. I want to weather the storm with you, face dangers together, not like now, where you charge ahead and I can only watch helplessly from behind—or rather, it’s not even watching helplessly, I’m utterly in the dark." It was the second time that Fu Hengyi was angry with Shen Qinglan.
Shen Qinglan listened silently, holding Fu Hengyi’s hand after he finished speaking. Fu Hengyi wanted to pull away, but ultimately didn’t, his face still cold.
"Fu Hengyi, I’m sorry." When she first heard the news, her instinct was to find Qin Yan personally, not wanting to trouble him, forgetting to consider his feelings, which was indeed her mistake.
"Shen Qinglan, what I want to hear is not an apology."
Shen Qinglan slightly lowered her eyes. After a long while, she finally said softly, "There won’t be a next time. Next time, if something like this happens, I will let you stand in front of me, let you protect me."
Fu Hengyi sighed deeply, clasping Shen Qinglan’s hand, "Do you know how scared I was when I found out that you went to look for Qin Yan by yourself?"
Shen Qinglan looked up, meeting Fu Hengyi’s eyes, "I was inconsiderate this time; it will never happen again."
Fu Hengyi leaned in and embraced Shen Qinglan, "From now on, before you do anything, think of me and our child."
Shen Qinglan nodded. Fu Hengyi looked down at the top of her head, "Did you catch Qin Yan?"
"No, by the time we arrived, the scene bore signs of a fight, but the people were gone. Allen found Qin Yan before us."
"Was she taken away by Allen?" Fu Hengyi’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"No, she escaped. It won’t be easy to catch her this time. Yan Anbang is seriously injured; it’s hard to say whether he can survive."
The plan this time was indeed to lure Qin Yan into the trap, and indeed she took the bait. However, what they didn’t anticipate was that Qin Yan’s strength was far greater than their estimation. Even if they didn’t see it with their own eyes, the signs at the site suggested that Allen had also paid a significant price.
"After this, even if we use Carl’s real ashes, she might not fall for it again. Now we can only observe and wait," said Fu Hengyi.
Shen Qinglan thought the same; missing the chance to catch Qin Yan was a regrettable loss. All they could do now was wait for a trace of Qin Yan and eliminate the threat once and for all.
Indeed, as Shen Qinglan and the others had predicted, Qin Yan didn’t show up again. Even the fake Mrs. Jin from Country R vanished. Multiple powers in the underworld were searching for Qin Yan, but she was like someone who had evaporated from the earth, without leaving any trace.
"An, should we continue the search?" Jin Enxi inquired. Over the past week, they had pursued leads while also offering considerable rewards for information, yet all was fruitless. Even Jin Enxi began to doubt whether Qin Yan was still alive.
Shen Qinglan appeared contemplative, the powers behind Qin Yan were intricate and complex, and even Allen didn’t know her full strength. If someone was covertly covering her tracks, finding Qin Yan would be very difficult. With over twenty years of meticulous planning, Qin Yan was no longer the simple woman dependent on Carl as mentioned by Allen.
