The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife -
Chapter 392 - 394. Man-made
Chapter 392: 394. Man-made
The door to the delivery room swung open, and a nurse walked out carrying a baby. Shen Junyu approached her, "How is my sister?"
"The mother has suffered severe bleeding; she’s now in a coma and undergoing emergency treatment. The baby’s condition isn’t good either and needs to be placed in an incubator."
Just as Chu Yunrong had mustered a bit of strength, she went limp upon hearing this and slumped toward the ground. Shen Junyu, disregarding his own mother, followed the doctors to see the baby. Although he trusted these doctors, one can never be too cautious.
Inside the delivery room, Fu Hengyi clung to Shen Qinglan’s hand, looking at her tightly shut eyes, his heart aching so much he could hardly breathe, "Qinglan." He called Shen Qinglan’s name but received no response.
"Doctor, the bleeding won’t stop," the midwife said anxiously.
The doctor’s expression was grave as he watched the continually dropping numbers on the monitor and said in a deep voice, "Prepare for emergency procedures."
"Mr. Fu, please step aside; don’t hinder the emergency treatment," the doctor said curtly, pushing Fu Hengyi aside, his eyes still fixed intently on Shen Qinglan.
All he could hear were the voices of doctors and nurses, but he couldn’t make out a word.
Shen Qinglan, you must be okay, if something happens to you, I can’t live on.
Bag after bag of blood was transfused into Shen Qinglan’s body, yet her complexion grew paler. In all of his thirty-two years, Fu Hengyi had never been as frightened as he was now. Not even close to death from his own severe injuries had he felt this unprecedented fear. His hands hung by his sides, trembling slightly.
If there were gods above, he would surely be praying earnestly right now.
When Shen Qian arrived at the hospital, he saw his wife leaning on Wen Xiyao, her expression blank. The two elders were also visibly anxious. Shen Junyu and Fu Hengyi were nowhere to be seen, and Yu Xiaoxuan sat quietly, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Shen Qian could only ask Han Yi, but he didn’t know the specifics either, only that Shen Qinglan had a difficult labor and severe bleeding, and though the child was born, they were still fighting to save them.
"Who is Shen Qinglan’s family?" The delivery room door opened once again, and a nurse stepped out, calling out.
"Nurse, I am her father; how is my daughter?" Shen Qian stepped forward.
"Shen Qinglan has severe bleeding and needs more transfusions. We’re running short on O-type blood in the blood bank. Who here has O-type blood?" the nurse asked.
"I do," Shen Qian said.
"Then please come with me right away," the nurse beckoned, and Chu Yunrong snapped back to reality, "Nurse, I’m also O-type. My blood can also be used." She and Shen Qian both had O-type blood.
"Both of you come in," said the nurse. Shen Qinglan’s bleeding was not stopping, and even the blood in the hospital’s blood bank wasn’t enough. Fu Hengyi’s blood type didn’t match.
Just stepping into the delivery room, the thick scent of blood hit them. Chu Yunrong caught sight of Shen Qinglan lying on the operating table, her complexion deathly pale, her eyes tightly shut, and even the rise and fall of her chest was barely perceptible, as if she were already dead. Her tears immediately started to fall, but she dared not cry out loud, only covering her mouth and silently weeping.
"Who’s going first?" asked the nurse.
"I’ll go first," Shen Qian said, lying down on the bed next to Shen Qinglan and watching his blood slowly flow into his daughter’s body, his gaze filled with tenderness, "Doctor, don’t worry about me; save my daughter first."
Wen Xiyao had already gone to call Shen Junyu back, fearing that there still wouldn’t be enough blood. Learning that his parents had already gone in, Shen Junyu wanted to go too, but Wen Xiyao held him back, "Wait a moment; the doctor will call for others soon."
And that wait turned into several hours, until the sky began to brighten. The door to the delivery room finally opened again, Shen Qinglan was wheeled out, Fu Hengyi closely following by her side.
Eden came out looking exhausted, having joined the resuscitation after the doctors took the baby out.
The last to be wheeled out was Chu Yunrong. In her effort to save Shen Qinglan, she had lost a lot of blood, far exceeding the limits her body could handle. Now, she could no longer stand up, Shen Qian was in the same condition, though his body was in much better shape than Chu Yunrong’s and it was not as apparent. Shen Junyu helped Shen Qian over to sit down.
Shen Qinglan was wheeled into the ICU, Fu Hengyi stood outside, quietly watching her. He had been standing for a long time, pain drilling through his legs, reminding him that he had exceeded his load, but Fu Hengyi seemed as if he couldn’t feel it.
Finally, it was Eden who couldn’t stand it anymore, pulling him onto a chair, "Your leg was just beginning to heal. If you break it from overexertion, Qinglan will blame herself when she wakes up."
Fu Hengyi had a numb expression, still looking in the direction of Shen Qinglan as Eden continued, "Qinglan’s condition has stabilized now. She’s only in ICU in case of complications. She should be moved to a regular ward once she wakes up. However, her body has suffered a great depletion this time; she needs a long rest."
Pausing there, Eden’s expression grew solemn. "Fu Hengyi, Qinglan’s severe bleeding wasn’t an accident, it was induced."
That statement instantly pulled Fu Hengyi’s thoughts back. He looked directly at Eden, his gaze as cold and lifeless as a thousand-year-old glacier, "Who did it?"
"We don’t know yet, but I found a substance in Qinglan’s blood. She was given a blood tonic during childbirth."
Bleeding is expected during childbirth, but with the blood tonic, it likely caused massive hemorrhaging. Someone was trying to kill Shen Qinglan.
Fu Hengyi’s eyes turned bloodthirsty, his demeanor ferocious, radiating a terrifying aura.
A sudden clang—a dropped item snapped Eden and Fu Hengyi from their reverie. They turned towards the sound and saw Wen Xiyao standing there, pale-faced, in disbelief. A thermal flask had rolled on the floor.
"Did you just say that someone tried to harm Qinglan?" she managed to squeeze out the words.
Fu Hengyi didn’t respond, instead turning back to watch Shen Qinglan. Eden walked over and picked up the items. "Keep this to yourself for now. I need to confirm a few things."
Wen Xiyao nodded, not taking the thermal flask. "This is food for you and Hengyi. Eat something to replenish your energy. I’ll talk to Qinglan’s parents."
After Wen Xiyao left, Fu Hengyi looked at Eden. "Can you find out who did this?"
Eden shook his head. "Not yet, Enxi and his team are on it. We should have results by tomorrow at the latest."
"I want to go in and be with her," Fu Hengyi said.
After a moment of thought, Eden agreed. Shen Qinglan’s condition would benefit from Fu Hengyi’s company.
Fu Hengyi put on a sterile suit and sat beside Shen Qinglan, holding her hand which was very cold, as if devoid of any warmth. He cupped her entire hand in his, trying to warm her with his own body heat.
"Qinglan, you scared me to death today, you know?" Fu Hengyi started softly, the bloodthirstiness gone, "I thought to myself, if you were gone, I might as well go with you. Don’t laugh at me for thinking this; I truly felt this way. Before meeting you, I never thought there could be someone whose life mattered to me more than my own..."
Fu Hengyi rambled on, Old Sir Fu, who had originally come to check on Shen Qinglan’s condition, quietly left after seeing this scene.
"How is Lanlan?" Old Sir Shen, seeing his old friend return, anxiously asked.
"Hengyi is in there with her, I didn’t go in," Old Sir Fu said. Actually, today he had wanted Hengyi to go see the child. Since the child’s birth, each of them had visited, except for Hengyi.
Chu Yunrong had also exhausted her strength this time and was staying in the hospital. She wanted to get up to see Qinglan, but Shen Qian stopped her, "You should rest properly first, then when Qinglan wakes up, you can take care of her."
Chu Yunrong held Shen Qian’s hand, "Is Qinglan alright?"
"There’s nothing to worry about, she’ll wake up in a few days, but her body has suffered greatly this time and needs proper care. You’ll be busy afterwards, so you need to take even better care of yourself now."
Upon hearing this, Chu Yunrong immediately said, "Alright, alright, alright. I’ll definitely take good care of her, but if Qinglan wakes up, you must tell me."
"Okay, you should lie down and rest now, even if you can’t sleep, just close your eyes and relax."
"What about the child?" Chu Yunrong finally remembered the child. She distinctly remembered that when the child came out, it was all purple, and after a loud cry, suddenly there was no movement.
"The child is still in the incubator, but there’s no serious problem, and it can come out in a couple of days. Don’t worry, both Qinglan and the child will be fine," Shen Qian reassured his wife. This childbirth had been too fraught with danger, lacking any joy of welcoming a new life.
"Is the child really okay? You better not lie to me," Chu Yunrong was still uneasy.
Shen Qian gently smiled, "Could I really lie to you? The child is really fine. If you’re worried, I can help you over to see."
"Okay," Chu Yunrong immediately said.
Having no choice, Shen Qian helped his wife to see the child. He pointed to one of the incubators and said, "That one is Qinglan’s child."
Chu Yunrong intently watched the child in the incubator. The child’s eyes were tightly closed, its hand placed by its mouth, sleeping sweetly, and Chu Yunrong’s heart immediately softened. "So cute."
"Can you rest assured and go back to rest now?"
"How soon can the child come out of the incubator?" Chu Yunrong asked.
"The doctor said at most three days."
Hearing this, Chu Yunrong finally felt relieved, followed Shen Qian back to the ward, and lay down to rest. Shen Qian also sat down to rest; his body was not much better.
Wen Xiyao first went downstairs to digest the news she had just received, waiting until her emotions steadied before she went back upstairs to see Shen Qian and Chu Yunrong. Shen Junyu had just gone to send the two old masters home; being in their nineties and having been caught up in this turmoil for so many days, the younger generation worried about the elders’ ability to withstand it.
"Dad, Mom," Wen Xiyao’s face carried a slight smile, showing no trace of the scare she had just had.

When Annie woke up, she found herself in a strange place, dimly lit and empty, with nothing around. She was bound hand and foot and thrown on the ground, which was covered with a thick layer of dust; this place seemed long abandoned.
She wanted to shout for help, but her mouth was taped, and her limbs were tied. Images of wealthy families’ children being kidnapped and ransoms being demanded flooded her mind, magnifying the panic in her heart.
"Woowoo," she struggled, twisting her body, but her limbs were tied tightly; she could not break free.
Jin Enxi and Cissily stood outside the door, observing the scene inside through the window, their expressions cold.
"Do you think she was behind what happened to An?" Cissily asked.
Jin Enxi shook her head, "I’m not sure, but this person appeared at the hospital at that time and was sneaking around, definitely no good person. There’s a saying in China, ’It is better to kill ten thousand by mistake than to let one go,’ I guess that’s the idea. Whether she did it or not, questioning her will make things clear." Her tone was icy, and Cissily knew without thinking, as long as it was confirmed that she was involved, Annie’s fate would become quite interesting.
"We should go now, we still need to ascertain the truth of the matter. This woman won’t be able to escape." Jin Enxi said flatly, this was already the second time; an accident had happened right under her watch.
Compared to the last time, this incident infuriated Jin Enxi even more, she better not find out who was behind this, or it would be relentless.
Cissily glanced at Annie once more and left with Jin Enxi. This place was a factory in the suburbs, long abandoned, and usually devoid of people.
After returning, Jin Enxi had retrieved all the surveillance from the entire hospital, including footage from a week ago.
Andre and Cissily helped Jin Enxi, and the three of them spent three full days watching all the video footage from beginning to end, not sparing any corner, and finally they noticed something unusual.
Jin Enxi looked at the screen with a cold smile and stood up to leave, Cissily quickly followed.
In the hospital, Eden came out of the laboratory with a stern face, his eyes icy, he went straight to Fu Hengyi and handed him the lab results, "An’s blood contains traces of two drugs, one that weakens the body, and one that stimulates blood flow, either of which is enough to be lethal."
Fu Hengyi stared intently at the paper in his hand, grabbing it tightly, "Do you know who it was?"
"Enxi and the others have reviewed all the hospital’s surveillance footage and identified a few suspicious people."
Fu Hengyi immediately stood up, leaned over, and whispered in Shen Qinglan’s ear, "I’ll step out for a moment, I’ll be back soon," his voice tender. But as soon as he stepped out of the ward, his expression grew stern, "Let’s go, show me."

In Y country, Allen sat up abruptly from bed on hearing the housekeeper’s report, "Who did you just say had difficulties in childbirth?"
The housekeeper, head bowed, did not dare meet his gaze at that moment, "Our people left in Beijing just sent word that Shen Qinglan had a severe hemorrhage during childbirth and almost died."
"Weren’t you supposed to protect her properly? How could such a thing happen?" Allen’s expression turned fierce. He threw off his blanket to get out of bed, but the movement pulled at his wound, and blood instantly soaked the bandage. Seeing this, Peter hurriedly held him down, "For God’s sake, stop making things worse. You’re nearly gone; what more do you want? The woman hasn’t died yet, and the housekeeper said it was a close call. What are you so agitated about?"
Allen glared at him furiously. Peter, facing his murderous gaze, braced himself and said, "Even if you glare at me, I have to say it. You’re practically half-dead; if you keep this up, you’ll actually die. Don’t think I can always save you. This time, Qin Yan didn’t mean to end your life; she missed slightly. If she had been more determined, you would be meeting God right now."
Allen’s expression remained dark, and he coldly ordered the housekeeper, "A bunch of useless people, all of you go down and take your punishment."
"Allen, that’s a bit unreasonable," Peter said, defending Allen’s men. "Childbirth is always risky, and Shen Qinglan had complications on her own, not because someone was trying to kill her. This isn’t really your men’s fault; you can’t just dismiss them because you’re concerned about her." Sometimes, Allen’s disposition was bitterly severe and violent, and his punishments were bloody and brutal; those of weaker constitution might not handle it.
"If you feel sorry for them, you can go yourself," Allen said coldly.
Peter snorted derisively, "Fine, consider I said nothing. Allen, you’ve really gone mad for a woman. I even feel like Shen Qinglan is a curse to you, better off dead."
With a loud "bang," Peter clutched his abdomen and knelt on one knee, looking at Allen incredulously, "Are you really mad?"
Allen’s gaze on him was like looking at a dead man, "This is the first time, and if there’s a next, it will pierce your heart."
Peter locked eyes with Allen, shuddered at the murderous intent in them, and froze briefly before a bitter smile formed on his lips. "I understand."
He stood up and slowly walked out of Allen’s room. As he reached the door, he paused and spoke, "Allen, I thought we were friends."
A ghostly glint darted across Allen’s eyes as he placed the Q back under the pillow. "Get out," he said to the housekeeper.
The housekeeper silently withdrew, only to return a moment later with another doctor following him. "Young Master, let the doctor first dress your wound."
Allen did not refuse. After the doctor had dressed his wound and left, he said, "Go check what really happened with Shen Qinglan’s difficult labor."
The housekeeper acknowledged with a yes and withdrew.
Allen leaned back in his bed, gazing out at the sunlight through the window, fiddling with a jade pendant in his hand.
That afternoon, the housekeeper entered again, "Young Master, there is news."
"Speak," Allen coldly demanded.
"Shen Qinglan’s difficult labor was induced. Someone had added blood-activating drugs and debilitation drugs to her medication, aiming for her to die along with her child during childbirth."
With a bang, a water glass was smashed to the ground, shattering to pieces. Allen’s expression turned frightening, "Dig three feet into the ground if you must, but find Qin Yan and throw her directly into the Beast Cage."
The housekeeper startled, "Young Master, it might not necessarily have been Mrs... Qin Yan."
"What does it matter? I say it was her, so it was her."
The housekeeper dared not say more and left to carry out the tasks. Allen stared blankly at the wall adorned with Shen Qinglan’s painting and softly said, "Xiaoqi, I will make everyone who hurt you pay a painful price."

In R country, upon receiving the news from Allen’s side, Qin Yan smiled, "Indeed worthy of being Carl’s son, ruthless enough. How is Xu Nuo’s injury doing?"
"Madam, she has mostly recovered, but her hand is practically useless. It’s unlikely she can handle a Q."
"Let it be useless, as she is just a piece of trash. Now go tell her that Shen Qinglan is lying in the hospital, her fate unknown; she might want to add fuel to the fire. I presume she won’t miss such a good opportunity."
"Madam, given her current situation, it might be hard for her to act."
"Heh, just a piece of trash. Giving her one last chance to seek revenge is a favor to her. I’ve taken such great pains to bring her out. She should at least serve some residual purpose; I don’t like losing deals."
"Understood, Madam. I will pass on your message."
"Tell her to use her brains when acting, not just those disabled limbs of hers," Qin Yan said coldly.
"Alright, Madam. Is there anything else you need to instruct?"
"Starting tomorrow, I will leave this place. Let Hui Zi come take over for me; from today, she is Mrs. Jin."
"Yes."
Qin Yan touched her wound and gave a cold smile. Allen finding her was not going to be easy—otherwise, why couldn’t she find Carl’s ashes? Did she really need to withstand Allen’s threats?
She had people search but turned up nothing in all the likely places. She even wondered if Allen had destroyed Carl’s ashes. But then again, that seemed unlikely—that was his only means of blackmailing her. If those were gone, he’d truly have nothing to hold over her.

In Beijing, Fu Hengyi and Eden left the hospital and went directly to Jin Enxi’s home, where Jin Enxi was waiting for them. "You’re here."
"Who did it?" Fu Hengyi got straight to the point.
Jin Enxi began, "I looked at the surveillance footage and saw a doctor and a nurse behaving suspiciously." She pulled up the footage. "These two people. I’ve checked, and they are both long-time employees here at the hospital." This was one reason they hadn’t noticed anything odd initially.
Fu Hengyi stared at the figures on the screen, memorizing their faces. "Give me that video."
Jin Enxi nodded, handing him a USB drive, "I’m still looking into who’s behind this. I’ll let you know as soon as I have any news. It would be best if you can get something out of these two people."
Fu Hengyi hummed an acknowledgment, "Thanks for your help this time."
"This time we failed to protect An. Saying thanks only makes me feel even more ashamed," Jin Enxi said. If only she had been more careful, perhaps this incident could have been avoided.
Fu Hengyi didn’t blame Jin Enxi and the others; they were Shen Qinglan’s friends and had helped her a lot along the way. If blame were to be assigned, it would be to himself for not protecting his wife properly.
"This is not your fault," Fu Hengyi said. Knowing that Eden couldn’t stand on his leg for long, he took Fu Hengyi away from there.
Back at the hospital, Fu Hengyi went straight to the Dean’s office. No one knows what they discussed inside, but when Dean Chen escorted Fu Hengyi out, he looked quite upset. "Mr. Fu, if what you say is true, I will definitely give you a satisfactory explanation."
Fu Hengyi’s expression was indifferent. "I hope Dean Chen takes this matter seriously. Otherwise, the Fu family will not just sue two individuals, but the whole hospital."
"Yes, yes, I will definitely investigate thoroughly," Dean Chen said as he bowed slightly and escorted Fu Hengyi out. As soon as he was alone, his face darkened and he immediately made a phone call to summon those two individuals.
Since it was not certain that the two had swapped the medications, Fu Hengyi chose not to involve the police but instead handled the matter through the hospital. Dean Chen, who had been a military medic in his younger days, owed a debt to Fu Hengyi’s late father, who had arranged for him to work at this hospital after leaving the military.
He had intended to use Shen Qinglan’s time here for childbirth as an opportunity to get closer to the Fu family but never expected such a close call with death. If the Fu family decided to pursue the hospital’s responsibility, his career as Dean would likely be over.
The two individuals Fu Hengyi had noticed were actually a married couple: the man, Zhou Xiong, a dedicated obstetrician, and the woman, Pang Jia, a senior nurse responsible for checking Shen Qinglan’s medication and chosen because of her usually impeccable performance.
But these two seemingly reliable individuals possibly attempting something life-threatening was almost unbelievable to Dean Chen. So when Fu Hengyi first mentioned his suspicions, he didn’t believe it, but he couldn’t deny the evidence when he saw the surveillance footage himself.
It was the couple’s first time in the Dean’s office; they were startled to see each other at the door and entered with trepidation, relieved to find only the Dean inside.
"Dean, you wanted to see us?" Pang Jia spoke first.
Dean Chen asked them to sit on the sofa and stared intently at them, making them increasingly uncomfortable. Unable to withstand the pressure, Zhou Xiong spoke first, "Dean Chen, may I ask why you have called us here?"
Dean Chen spoke calmly, "Don’t rush. I want to show you something first." He turned his computer screen around, displaying surveillance footage of two people sneakily making a phone call in a hospital corner, their expressions panicked.
"Can anyone explain what this is about?" Dean Chen demanded in a heavy tone.
Pang Jia’s expression slightly changed, but she was subtly bowing her head. Dean Chen did not notice her expression. Zhou Xiong’s expression also changed, but compared to his wife, he was much calmer. "Dean, it’s just a phone call. There’s nothing strange about that, right?"
Dean Chen hummed in response and clicked the mouse. "Let’s continue watching."
The next scene was at the edge of a hospital flower bed where Zhou Xiong handed a medicine to Pang Jia. Pang Jia quickly stuffed the medicine into her upper coat pocket and looked around nervously, her face tense.
"Pang Jia hasn’t been feeling well lately, so I brought her some medicine. We’re husband and wife; that’s normal, right?" Zhou Xiong said, trying to sound casual, but a hint of guilt flashed in his eyes. He didn’t even believe his own excuse.
"If that’s the case, why is Pang Jia so nervous? You’re spouses, not lovers," Dean Chen countered lightly.
Zhou Xiong tugged at the corner of his mouth, attempting to explain, "We... we..."
"You can’t even convince yourself, can you?" Dean Chen continued, his voice slightly deep. "The reason Shen Qinglan had a difficult childbirth was because someone added blood activating and debilitating drugs to her medication. The Fu Family is already aware of this and has made it clear that they will pursue the responsibility. Now that it’s just the three of us in the office, if you confess, I might still be able to plead on your behalf in front of the Fu Family. But if you insist it has nothing to do with you, and the Fu Family finds out later, it won’t be so easy to settle."
A trace of fear flashed across Pang Jia’s face. She tried to speak but was silenced as Zhou Xiong grasped her hand tightly. "Dean, we don’t know what you’re talking about. We’re also saddened by Mrs. Fu’s difficult childbirth, but this has nothing to do with us. Our behavior as a couple being a bit odd doesn’t prove anything. You can’t just say we did it because of this."
Dean Chen’s gaze turned icy as he stared straight at Zhou Xiong, who calmly met his gaze. Dean Chen averted his eyes and spoke, "In that case, I can only do as the Fu Family says and choose to call the police. I believe with the police involved, the truth will soon be unearthed."
Zhou Xiong nodded. "Indeed, that should be done. It’s also a way of taking responsibility for me and Pang Jia."
Hearing this, Dean Chen took out his phone, ready to make a call. "This matter needs to be dealt with sooner rather than later. I’m going to inform the police now to quickly investigate and uncover the truth."
Just as Dean Chen was about to call the police, Pang Jia suddenly stood up, knocked the phone out of his hand, and exclaimed, "Dean Chen, please don’t call the police. We did it, we confess."
Everything happened in an instant. Zhou Xiong hadn’t even reacted when Pang Jia had already blurted out everything. He closed his eyes, his heart sinking.
Dean Chen’s expression changed. "What exactly happened? Speak up!"
Pang Jia covered her face, sobbing softly, "Dean, we had our reasons for doing this..."

Fu Hengyi returned to the hospital room just as Shen Junyu was coming out. "Hengyi, is everything taken care of?"
Fu Hengyi nodded. "How is Qinglan doing?"
"Much better now. The doctor just came to check and said she’s completely stable now. She can be moved to a regular room soon."
"I’ll go in and see her," said Fu Hengyi.
Shen Junyu put his hand on his shoulder. "Hengyi, you should go and rest first. Lanlan will wake up in a couple of days. Seeing you in this state right now would only worry her."
"I insisted on staying," Fu Hengyi said. Being away from Shen Qinglan’s side, he couldn’t rest well either, and he preferred to watch over her for some peace of mind.
"You listen to me," he continued, "go home first and take a shower, change your clothes. You look like a homeless person right now, Lanlan won’t recognize you when she wakes up. In a bit, Lanlan will be moved to a regular ward and I’ll have a bed set up there for you to rest."
Fu Hengyi thought about it for a moment and didn’t oppose the suggestion, "Alright, Jun Yu, help me to the car." His legs were very uncomfortable.
Shen Junyu quickly came to assist him, sighing, "You two really are a couple who share hardships now. One after another, there’s never a moment for peace. I’ll accompany you back first; you can’t afford to have anything happen to you now."
"Thank you."
"What are you thanking family for, you’re slapping me in the face."
Shen Qinglan woke up two days later, three days after giving birth. As soon as she opened her eyes, she felt her hand being tightly held, she turned her head and saw Fu Hengyi lying on the bed next to hers, holding her hand, sleeping with his eyes closed, his chin sporting stubble, and under his eyes were distinct shadows.
Gentle smiles filled her eyes as she quietly watched his sleeping face, her lips curling up slightly in post-disaster joy.
Fu Hengyi, who wasn’t sleeping deeply, sensed someone watching him and immediately woke up, staring blankly at the smiling person before him. "Qinglan."
"Mm, it’s me, Fu Hengyi, I’m awake," Shen Qinglan said tenderly.
Fu Hengyi quickly sat up from the bed, swung his legs off, and took Shen Qinglan into his arms in one swift move. "Qinglan."
He embraced her so tightly that Shen Qinglan almost couldn’t breathe, but she didn’t say anything and embraced him back forcefully. She knew this incident must have terrified Fu Hengyi, not just him, she herself was quite frightened too, especially towards the end when the child came out and she suffered from massive bleeding. She could vividly feel the rapid loss of blood from her body; that moment, she genuinely thought she would die in the delivery room.
"Fu Hengyi, I’m alright now," Shen Qinglan gently comforted Fu Hengyi.
Fu Hengyi’s voice was hoarse, "You really scared me this time."
"Mm, I know, it was because we had no experience, it won’t happen again."
"There won’t be a next time," Fu Hengyi flatly refused. "One child is enough for us, we don’t need a second one. Qinglan, one more time like this, and I really would break down," he said, still frightened.
He rarely let his emotions show like this, and seeing him so scared, Shen Qinglan didn’t dare push the issue and nodded in agreement, "Okay, we will just want this one, no more in the future."
"I’ll get a surgery once you’ve recovered," Fu Hengyi continued.
"No," Shen Qinglan refused, meeting Fu Hengyi’s deep gaze, her heart softened, and she explained, "If anyone should get it, it’s me. But it’s too soon to talk about this. Let’s wait until I’ve recovered, okay?"
Fu Hengyi stared at her determinately, Shen Qinglan touched her stomach, "Fu Hengyi, I’m hungry."
Knowing she was changing the subject, but unwilling to let her be hungry, he stood up, "I’ll go get you something to eat."
After a few steps, Shen Qinglan suddenly called out to him, "Fu Hengyi, our child?"
Fu Hengyi’s body stiffened sharply.
