The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife
Chapter 389 - 391. Try to like me

Chapter 389: 391. Try to like me

"Thank you," Doug said, though he seemed somewhat distracted, as he was thinking about the scene when he met Ya Xi today.

On the other side, Ya Xi became disinterested after Doug left. Jiang Zhehan noticed this, and after Ya Xi got distracted again during a conversation, Jiang Zhehan finally spoke out of helplessness, "Ya Xi, are you feeling unwell? Do you want me to take you home?"

Ya Xi came back to her senses and nodded at his words, "Thank you."

Jiang Zhehan smiled and said, "Actually, it’s my fault. If I had known you weren’t feeling well, I wouldn’t have insisted on going out, and I wouldn’t have let you eat cold desserts. Next time, let’s wait until you’re feeling better, and then I’ll take you out to eat."

Embarrassed, Ya Xi spoke up, "Actually, I’m the one who should apologize today. Next time, let me treat you to a meal."

"Alright, it’s a deal then."

Jiang Zhehan drove Ya Xi home, and as she was about to get out of the car, he stopped her, "Ya Xi, I want to ask you a question."

Ya Xi looked at him, puzzled, "The man we ran into today, who is he to you?"

Ya Xi was stunned, then realized, "He’s a friend of mine."

"Did you reject me because of him?"

Ya Xi thought for a moment and shook her head, "No, it’s not because of him. It’s that I don’t like you, Jiang Zhehan. I know you’re good to me, but don’t waste your time on me. I already have someone I like, and I won’t have feelings for you."

Jiang Zhehan’s eyes darkened, "Is it him? The person you like, is it him?"

"I’m sorry." Leaving just those words, Ya Xi got out of the car.

Ya Xi returned home and sat alone on the living room sofa, lost in thought and unable to come to any conclusion. Her gaze suddenly fell on an art collection on the coffee table—it was Shen Qinglan’s art collection. A glint passed through her eyes, and she immediately called Shen Qinglan.

Shen Qinglan was just about to go to sleep when she received Ya Xi’s call, the first since Ya Xi had returned.

"Ya Xi."

Hearing Shen Qinglan’s voice, Ya Xi’s pent-up feelings burst out like a child who, despite getting up by themselves after a fall, becomes whiny at the sight of their parents.

Shen Qinglan was taken aback, listening to Ya Xi crying pitifully, and quickly asked, "Ya Xi, what happened?"

Ya Xi sobbed, "Sister, I missed you."

Shen Qinglan immediately smiled, her smile warm, "Wait until I’ve had the baby, and then I’ll come to see you."

Ya Xi vehemently shook her head, then realizing Shen Qinglan couldn’t see, said, "No need, sister, I’m just being suddenly sentimental, it’s nothing. Just think of me as being crazy."

"Tell me, has something unpleasant happened?" Shen Qinglan asked gently, and beside her, Mr. Fu’s eyes flashed with a hint of grievance as he looked at her tender expression—why was his wife never so gentle with him?

Ya Xi hesitated and didn’t reveal that Doug had rejected her, but Shen Qinglan guessed the gist from her few words and said, "Ya Xi, there’s nothing wrong in liking someone. If you like him, you can boldly pursue him."

Afterwards, Shen Qinglan recalled how Annie persistently badgered Eden, adding an extra sentence, "Of course, taking initiative doesn’t mean being overly clingy."

Ya Xi’s voice sounded dull, "Sister, he doesn’t like me."

"As long as he doesn’t have someone he loves, you can be a bit more proactive, what’s the harm in that?" Shen Qinglan said. When it came to love, everyone had the right to pursue actively, "Of course, if liking this person makes you unhappy, even painful, you should give up. Love is supposed to be beautiful, meant to bring joy..."

Listening to Shen Qinglan’s patient explanations, Ya Xi’s mood gradually improved, "Sister, thank you, and I’m sorry for bothering you so late."

It was only ten in the evening, not that late, and Shen Qinglan usually didn’t sleep so early, "Since you call me sister, it means we are fated. You are alone overseas, feel free to call me anytime."

"Um, thank you, sister. I feel much better now. It’s getting late; you should rest early," Ya Xi softly said.

Shen Qinglan hung up the phone, her face thoughtful. Fu Hengyi pulled her down to lie down and spoke, "Ya Xi isn’t a child, you can’t worry about her for a lifetime, you need to let go when it’s time."

Shen Qinglan looked sideways, "Do you know what I was just thinking?"

"Weren’t you thinking about going to Xueli City to see her?" Fu Hengyi countered.

Shen Qinglan smiled, that was indeed what she had been thinking. She poked Fu Hengyi’s chest and said, "You really have become the worm in my belly."

Fu Hengyi caught her hand, kissed it and said, "This means I understand you."

"I was just thinking, actually. Now with such a big ball in my belly, I can’t go anywhere," Shen Qinglan said.

"That’s right," Fu Hengyi responded.

The next day, Ya Xi got up and realized it was raining outside. It was the weekend, and she didn’t have classes. Remembering Shen Qinglan’s words, she glanced at her phone and finally mustered the courage to call Doug. However, the person who answered was a woman, and her voice sounded like the woman from yesterday. Panicking, she immediately hung up.

The woman holding the phone turned to look at Doug, who was holding something and shrugged, "Doug, I think I just did something wrong. Your girl seems to have misunderstood us again."

She was currently in Doug’s clinic. Originally, her flight was early in the morning, but due to a last-minute cancellation, it was rescheduled to the afternoon.

Seeing Doug’s calm expression, the woman raised an eyebrow, "Were you doing that on purpose just now?" Doug had asked her to answer the phone.

Doug handed her the object in his hands, "Here, you can leave now."

The woman chuckled, "Doug, you really are setting the standard for using people and then discarding them. You just used me and now you’re throwing me away? But, you like that girl, don’t you? She took the initiative to call you. The intent is so clear; why are you still rejecting her?"

Hearing this, Doug swept a glance at the woman, "I said I wanted to have lunch. Let me treat you to lunch, let’s go."

"Doug, when will you ever stop changing the subject every time you don’t want to talk?" the woman said, following Doug.

Doug treated her to lunch and then drove her to the airport. Before leaving, the woman caught Doug by the arm, speaking earnestly, "Doug, I don’t know why you are refusing that girl, but I want to tell you, love can’t wait. If you make her wait too long, she’ll tire and leave. Life is long, you can’t expect her to keep liking only you when she knows it’s hopeless. You still need to seize the opportunity when you have the chance."

Hearing that, Doug’s eyes flashed with an indecipherable emotion. On the way back, he was still pondering this issue, his emotions deep and unfathomable.

As the car approached his house, he saw Ya Xi standing at the door, arms wrapped around herself, shivering under the porch as the rain drenched her. Doug’s expression shifted, he immediately got out of the car and rushed to Ya Xi, "Who allowed you to stand here like this? Don’t you know your body is weak and can’t withstand the cold?"

This was the first time Doug scolded Ya Xi with a stern face, leaving her stunned and tears welling up in her eyes, ready to fall at any moment.

Looking into her eyes, Doug instantly came to his senses and softened his expression, "I didn’t mean to scold you, I’m just worried about your health."

Ya Xi lowered her head, "I’m sorry."

Seeing her aggrieved appearance, Doug’s heart twinged. He opened the door, let Ya Xi in first, then went into the room to get a jacket to drape over her, holding a dry towel in his hand, "Why would you go out in such heavy rain?"

Ya Xi let Doug towel-dry her hair and wrapped her clothes tighter around herself, still feeling very cold, "I just wanted to see you, Doug. You haven’t paid attention to me in a long time." She didn’t expect that Doug wouldn’t be home and that she hadn’t brought an umbrella.

At her words, Doug paused in his toweling, then continued, "I’ve been quite busy lately, and didn’t you say you wanted to go to school by yourself?"

"I regret it now," Ya Xi said, looking directly at Doug, "I spoke out of anger that day, because you told me to like another boy, it wasn’t what I really meant."

"Doug, I like you, I want to be your girlfriend," Ya Xi said earnestly.

"Ya Xi..." Doug had just begun to speak when Ya Xi interrupted him.

"Don’t say it’s just fondness or dependency, and don’t say I’m too young. I’m already twenty this year, not young at all. I can differentiate liking from dependency, Doug. You can reject me, but don’t push me to someone else. It would hurt me."

As Ya Xi spoke, tears fell, landing on the back of Doug’s hand. Doug hesitated, silently sighing, "I haven’t said anything yet, and you’re already crying."

Seeing that Ya Xi’s clothes were still wet and worrying she might catch cold, he pulled her up, "You should take a hot shower now. I don’t have women’s clothes here, just wear mine for now, and later I’ll take you back."

Ya Xi was pushed into the bathroom and took a long time to come out, wearing a set of Doug’s sportswear. Being petite, she looked like a child who had snuck into an adult’s clothes.

But before Doug could take her home, his worry materialized; Ya Xi stepped out of the bathroom with her face flushed. At first, Doug thought it was from the steam, but then realized something was off. Feeling her forehead confirmed it; she was burning hot.

Having no choice, Doug let Ya Xi stay, went out to buy some fever medicine, fed it to her, and watched her as she fell asleep by the bedside. Suddenly, he reached out to touch her cheek. Due to the fever, the heat on her face hadn’t subsided.

"Doug, I like you," Ya Xi murmured softly, her voice quiet but distinctly reaching Doug’s ears.

Doug paused, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly, with a tenderness in his eyes that Ya Xi had never seen before, "Silly girl, I like you too, but if one day, you remember the past, can you still accept me staying by your side?"

Doug knew all about Ya Xi’s past; he didn’t mind, but what about Ya Xi? Could she overlook knowing her own past?

This, Doug wasn’t sure of. When friends asked him why he rejected if he liked her, how could he tell them that he was afraid? If he gained her now only to lose her later, then it was better never to have had her at all.

Ya Xi, clutching the corner of the blanket, knitted her brows tightly and whispered Doug’s name softly; Doug, holding her hand, murmured in her ear, "I’m here, don’t be scared."

Ya Xi didn’t sleep peacefully, and just like before, Doug cared for her throughout the night until her fever went down. Only then did he go to sleep on the living room sofa for a while.

Ya Xi got up from the bed, looked around the unfamiliar setting, vaguely remembering the events of the previous night. She glanced at the clothes on her body, smiling lightly, and got out of bed.

Doug was thoughtful, having prepared a pair of slippers for her. Although they were a bit big, they kept Ya Xi from being barefoot.

Ya Xi stepped out of the room, and Doug was still deeply asleep on the sofa. She stood at the doorway for a while, then lightened her footsteps, walked over to the sofa, crouched down, and gazed at Doug’s sleeping face.

As she watched, she reached out gently and touched his long eyelashes, her eyes curving into a smile. Her gaze dropped to his lips and, as if possessed, she bent down slowly leaning closer.

Just as she was about to touch him, Doug suddenly opened his eyes. Startled, Ya Xi instinctively retreated and ended up sitting on the floor with a thump.

"You, you’re awake," Ya Xi said softly, her face flushed deep red, her ears and neck burning as well.

Pretending not to notice her embarrassment, Doug reached out to help her up, "Why are you sitting on the floor? You just got over a fever; what if you catch a cold again?"

Ya Xi looked down, not daring to meet his eyes, and said flusteredly, "I got up and didn’t see anyone around. I saw you were sleeping and didn’t dare disturb you."

Doug smiled slightly, "Now that you’re awake, go freshen up. For breakfast, would bread and milk be okay?"

Ya Xi nodded hurriedly and escaped into the bathroom. Staring at her flushed face in the mirror, she covered her face, feeling vexed, "It’s done for, Doug must have seen it. He must think I’m a female hooligan. What should I do?"

In the bathroom, Ya Xi regretted it deeply, while Doug touched his lips thoughtfully and went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for Ya Xi.

Ya Xi took her time in the bathroom, only coming out after Doug knocked on the door twice. Doug handed her the bread, milk, and a sunny-side-up egg.

"After eating, I’ll take you home. You probably have cold medicine there. Take it, rest well, and sleep. You should be better by Monday," Doug said, his expression unchanged.

Ya Xi glanced at him from the corner of her eye, and seeing that he seemed truly unaware of what had happened, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"What are you thinking about? You’re not even focusing on eating," Doug said, handing her a tissue. Only then did Ya Xi realize she had spilled the milk on the table.

After cleaning the table, Ya Xi focused on her meal.

"Let’s go, I’ll take you home now," Doug said.

Ya Xi looked at his upright figure and suddenly rushed up to hug Doug’s waist. His body stiffened suddenly, and before he could speak, Ya Xi said, "Doug, I’ve thought it over carefully, and I still like you a lot, I want to be with you. If you don’t have someone you like, could you try to like me too?"

"Ya Xi..."

"If you’re going to reject me, don’t say anything, Doug. I’ve never been strong. I’ll be sad and cry, but I don’t always want you to see me crying."

Doug sighed softly, trying to turn around, but Ya Xi was holding him tightly, "Ya Xi, I’m twenty-seven this year, much older than you."

"I don’t mind," Ya Xi blurted out.

Doug pried Ya Xi’s arms away and looked at her, "Right now, I’m young, and you think I’m great, but when I get old, and you are still young, you’ll regret it."

"Doug, I am younger than you, but I’m not naive. Our age difference is only seven years, not twenty-seven. Don’t make it about age, unless you tell me there’s someone you like in your heart, and you’ll never like me."

Ya Xi stared into Doug’s eyes, and he could see his own reflection in them, clear as if he were the only person in her world. The lie he was about to speak turned on his tongue and was swallowed back down.

Ya Xi’s eyes brightened, "You didn’t refuse, which means you don’t feel absolutely nothing for me, right?"

Doug looked into her eyes without speaking. Ya Xi cautiously said, "Can you try to like me?"

Can you try to like me? Her humble tone, filled with a hint of pleading, made Doug’s heart ache instantly. He couldn’t help but reach out and pull Ya Xi into his embrace, saying, "Ya Xi, you have to take responsibility for your words. Do you understand?"

Ya Xi hadn’t really understood yet. Doug continued, "If you’re with me, then no matter what happens, you can’t leave me unless we fall out of love with each other."

Ya Xi was startled, her lips slowly stretching into a smile that reached her ears, and she nodded vigorously, "Okay." Could it be that the word ’we’ he mentioned means he actually likes me too? Ya Xi thought to herself.

Doug smiled tenderly and reached out to tousle her hair. "Can we go home now?"

"Am I your girlfriend now?" Her face was full of hope.

Doug nodded, "Yes."

Ya Xi’s eyes instantly curved into a smile, a smile that hadn’t appeared on her for a long time; Doug smiled with her.

Ya Xi reached out and grasped Doug’s hand, intertwining their fingers. Doug glanced at their clasped hands and squeezed a bit tighter, locking them more firmly.

Beijing.

Ten days away from Shen Qinglan’s due date, Chu Yunrong had already started preparing various things needed for the birth. Every day, she was busy, always preparing one thing or another and never resting.

"Yun Rong, sit down and rest. Stop pacing around; you’re making me dizzy," Old Sir Shen said to Chu Yunrong, who was moving around the living room.

Chu Yunrong stopped, looking somewhat at a loss, "Dad, just let me stay busy. When I stop, I get nervous." She had never been this nervous even when she was having her own children.

"Lanlan’s delivery is still over a week away. Why be anxious now? If you have time, why not prepare some food for Lanlan? She mentioned yesterday she wanted Sister-in-law Song’s rice wine balls," Old Sir Shen found an excuse to send Chu Yunrong to the kitchen.

Chu Yunrong, hearing this, immediately cheered up, "Sure, I’ll go now. I need to learn properly from Sister-in-law Song."

After sending her off, Old Sir Shen relaxed and turned on the television.

"Grandpa, what are you watching?" Shen Junyu and Wen Xiyao returned, each carrying a big bag of items. Since their marriage, Shen Junyu and Wen Xiyao had moved out.

Initially, Wen Xiyao wanted to live in the ancestral home, but Old Sir Shen did not agree, saying, "I’m not so old that I can’t move around. We don’t need you to look after us. Young people should live the life of young people. Just come and visit us occasionally and have a meal with us."

Although they didn’t live in the ancestral house, Shen Junyu and Wen Xiyao still came back every once in a while, mainly because Wen Xiyao was concerned about Old Sir Shen feeling lonely with both Shen Junyu and Shen Qinglan having moved out and not adapting suddenly.

"Xi Yao and Junyu are back. What are you carrying, such a big pack?" Old Sir Shen asked.

Wen Xiyao sat down beside him, "Some daily necessities for Qinglan, things needed in the hospital. Grandpa, has the hospital for Qinglan’s delivery been arranged?"

Old Sir Shen smiled, "Everything is arranged. Hengyi took care of it personally. He was worried, even went there to check it himself, and even found the postpartum care center himself."

Shen Junyu, upon hearing this, regarded Fu Hengyi with newfound respect. His brother truly spared no effort when it came to his sister, Shen Qinglan; there wasn’t a single flaw. If it weren’t for his leg injury that hadn’t yet healed, he would probably follow Shen Qinglan even to the bathroom.

Old Sir Shen looked at Wen Xiyao, "Xi Yao, do you and Junyu have any plans for the future?" It was clear what he meant by ’plans,’ and to avoid any misunderstanding, he added, "Grandpa isn’t rushing you to have children; I just want to know your plans to be prepared."

Wen Xiyao glanced at Shen Junyu awkwardly, and Shen Junyu smiled, "Grandpa, Xi Yao and I have been married for less than a month, and you’re already anxious to hold a great-grandson?"

Old Sir Shen glared at him, "Grandpa isn’t in a hurry to hold a great-grandson. Don’t talk nonsense, or you’ll cause Xi Yao to misunderstand." Old Sir Shen was a very open-minded person; he had no strict rules about when to have children.

"Xi Yao and I have discussed it; we just got married, and it’s too early to have children now. We plan to enjoy our time as a couple and consider having children next year."

Hearing this, Old Sir Shen nodded, "Hmm, next year is good; Xi Yao’s age is also appropriate. Lanlan was too early; according to my wishes, delaying for a couple of years wouldn’t be bad." Fu Hengyi had originally said to wait for two years, but plans couldn’t keep up with changes.

Moreover, Old Sir Shen knew that Wen Xiyao had her own career, and getting pregnant would definitely affect her career. He wasn’t one of those feudal heads of the family who wouldn’t allow their daughters-in-law to show their faces in public. He supported Wen Xiyao wanting to develop her career.

Wen Xiyao was truly grateful for the old man’s progressiveness. She often heard from friends before getting married about being pressured to give birth right after marriage, to keep having children until satisfactory, treating them like breeding machines; or thinking women who are too career-oriented were problematic, prompting them to quit their jobs and become housewives; there were also tensions and conflicts between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law.

Wen Xiyao had never encountered any of these issues. It was evident from her face how satisfied she was with her current life.

"Grandpa, Xi Yao and I will go see Lanlan now and come back later," Shen Junyu said.

Old Sir Shen waved his hand, "Go ahead. Oh, and take the can of tea leaves Old Wu brought the day before yesterday to Grandpa Fu; he loves it."

Shen Junyu nodded, fetched the tea leaves, and left for the Fu family with Wen Xiyao.

When they arrived, Shen Qinglan was accompanying Fu Hengyi in his rehabilitation training. Though ’accompanying’ was a loose term—she was actually just standing there watching Eden and Fu Hengyi train.

After a while, Wen Xiyao spoke, "Hengyi’s leg is recovering faster than expected."

"Yes, he can already walk by himself for a while," said Shen Qinglan with a smile. Just yesterday, Fu Hengyi had accompanied her in the garden without any support.

This was indeed good news, and Wen Xiyao also felt happy for Shen Qinglan.

"Brother, sister-in-law, let’s step outside to talk. His rehabilitation training has just begun; it won’t be over so quickly."

Shen Junyu glanced at Fu Hengyi, who was diligently undergoing rehabilitation, greeted Eden, and followed Shen Qinglan outside.

"Sister-in-law, are you coming back for dinner today?"

Wen Xiyao nodded, "Yes, and I also bought some daily necessities for you. Have you discussed when you’ll be moving into the hospital?"

"The doctor suggested arriving three days in advance, but it’s still early."

"Then make sure to prepare everything needed in advance, to avoid any last-minute panic," Wen Xiyao said, her concern evident. Though she hadn’t had children herself, she had consulted her mother over the phone about these things.

Shen Qinglan smiled, "Everything is already well prepared." Not only Chu Yunrong, but Fu Hengyi at home was also preparing. The items they had prepared were more than enough for one child; they could have ten children with them.

As they were chatting in the living room, Grandpa Fu came in from outside, holding a cage with several hens inside. Seeing this scene, Shen Junyu couldn’t help but laugh, "Grandpa Fu, when did you start taking up chicken-walking?"

Old Sir Fu chuckled, "This is an authentic free-range old hen I had someone buy from the countryside, it’s very nourishing. I’m saving it for Qinglan to help her recover after giving birth."

Qinglan didn’t have a mother-in-law, and since Old Sir Fu liked her, he naturally took great care of her.

"That’s wonderful. Lanlan is so fortunate to have a grandpa like you," Wen Xiyao praised with a smile.

"Haha, Xi Yao is really good with words. Once you and Jun Yu have children in the future, Grandpa Fu will also get a few for you."

Aunt Zhao heard the old man’s voice in the kitchen, came out, and indeed saw the old man had returned.

"Xiao Zhao, you’ve come just in time. Take this chicken and raise it well. When Qinglan gives birth, make her some soup."

"Alright, you can leave that to me. Jun Yu, Xi Yao, are you eating here at noon?"

Shen Junyu shook his head, "No need to be polite, Aunt Zhao. Xi Yao and I will eat back home, Sister-in-law Song has prepared our meal."

"Alright then, I won’t be polite with you either." Aunt Zhao carried the hen into the kitchen.

Fu Hengyi came out two hours later, already changed into fresh clothes, obviously having taken a bath. Eden pushed him over to Shen Qinglan’s side. Qinglan turned her head towards him, "How are you feeling today?"

Fu Hengyi smiled, "Very good."

"Qinglan, don’t worry. Hengyi is recovering very well. I believe it will not take a month before he can leave the wheelchair," Eden said.

Since there were two more hours of rehab training in the afternoon, Eden ate lunch at the Fu family. He frequently visited the Fu family and was not dining there for the first time. He was very familiar with Old Sir Fu. During the lunch break, the old man often pulled him to play chess, ostensibly to teach Eden, but really just to find someone to play chess with."

After the afternoon training, Eden was about to leave. Shen Qinglan stood up, "Eden, let me walk you out."

Eden raised an eyebrow, "Sure."

Upon leaving the Fu family, Eden spoke first, "An, do you have something to tell me?"

Shen Qinglan hummed, "Eden, do you know what Enxi has been up to recently?" She hadn’t been able to contact Jin Enxi for a week now. Such situations used to occur frequently, but for the past year and more, Jin Enxi had been mostly with her, and there had never been such a situation. She was somewhat worried.

Eden slightly startled, "Can’t get in touch with Enxi?" His mind had been focused on Fu Hengyi’s legs recently and he really hadn’t been in contact with Jin Enxi.

"Have you contacted Daniel?" Eden asked.

"I did, but Daniel has also disappeared, and his phone is turned off."

"Could it be that they went out for fun? You know what Enxi is like. Sometimes when she is having too much fun, no one can find her. I guess she just went out to play with Daniel. Don’t worry about her. With her capabilities, even if she’s with someone else, it’s easy for her to escape."

"I hope so," Shen Qinglan said, her worries still not completely calmed.

Eden reached out, brushing a fallen leaf from Shen Qinglan’s hair, "Trust me, Enxi will be fine. You, on the other hand, are about to give birth soon. Taking good care of yourself is what’s most important."

Shen Qinglan smiled and looked at Eden with serious eyes, "Eden, I owe you a thank you."

"Just keep owing it then, and we can settle it together in the future," Eden spoke softly, "Alright, go inside. I’ll get in touch with Enxi later."

"Okay."

After Shen Qinglan left, Eden also planned to leave, but a figure appeared in front of him, it was Annie, who had been absent for a while, staring straight at Eden.

Eden frowned, intending to bypass her and leave.

"Eden, the person you said you liked is Shen Qinglan, right?" Behind him, Annie spoke faintly.

Eden paused in his steps, turned around to face her, and Annie gave a miserable smile, "I wasn’t sure just now, but now I am certain, the person you like is indeed Shen Qinglan."

The scene where Eden had helped Shen Qinglan tidy her hair had been witnessed by her, as well as the way Eden looked at Shen Qinglan with that expression in his eyes. Perhaps he seemed natural, but a woman in love is sensitive, and a woman in unrequited love has an even more terrifying sixth sense.

She had originally come today to confront Eden, but unexpectedly, she had witnessed such a scene and suddenly had a different view of Shen Qinglan.

"Haha, I should have thought of it earlier." It’s tricky because Shen Qinglan is Fu Hengyi’s wife, so she hadn’t suspected her initially, "Eden, she’s already married, even expecting a child soon."

"So what? Who I like or dislike is my business," Eden spoke coldly, an entirely different attitude from when he was talking to Shen Qinglan.

Annie looked at him hurt, "Eden, do you dislike me that much? You’d rather love a married woman than have feelings for me?"

"This is my business," Eden said coldly and turned to leave.

"Eden, does she know you love her? Do you know what kind of person she is?" Annie shouted.

Eden paused slightly in his steps, and Annie continued, "She asked me to give up on you, saying you would not like me. Eden, she is a selfish woman, married yet still wanting to monopolize your love. She just wants to use your love for her to willingly help treat her husband. Such a woman is not worth it."

Eden didn’t turn around, "Even if it is so, I am willing. She’s right; I don’t like you, and I won’t like you in the future. If you harass me again, I will call the police."

"Eden!" Annie watched Eden’s unhesitating departing figure, shouting loudly, but failing to make Eden stop.

"Ah!" She screamed, staring at the large courtyard, her eyes filled with hatred. Shen Qinglan, Shen Qinglan, you deceiver, hypocritical woman!

Eden would never have imagined that simply rejecting someone could make an enemy for Shen Qinglan. Sometimes a woman’s jealousy is indeed too terrifying.

After Eden had left, he tried to contact Jin Enxi, but all contact methods failed to reach her. He thought about it and called Daniel’s studio, only to find out that Daniel and his girlfriend had gone on a trip and wouldn’t be back for a long time.

Meanwhile, Jin Enxi was actually traveling with Daniel, but this trip was somewhat unusual. They had ventured into the primordial forest, where Daniel had accidentally eaten poisonous fruits. Both of them had fainted from the poison and were captured by the locals. If not for Jin Enxi’s quick response, by now, one of them might have been kept as a breeding stallion, and the other boiled alive.

They had barely escaped from the natives’ lair. Jin Enxi and Daniel were hastily making their way back, but the natives had led them so far away. After three days, they were still wandering in the primordial forest. It’s no wonder that Shen Qinglan and the others couldn’t get in touch with her yet.

Three days before Shen Qinglan was due to give birth, she suddenly received an unfamiliar phone call. Thinking it was from Jin Enxi, she answered, only to hear a harsh, unpleasant voice on the other end, "Xiaoqi, have you missed me?"
