The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife -
Chapter 383 - 385. Shen Family Wedding
Chapter 383: 385. Shen Family Wedding
"These things have no connection with me anymore," Fang Tong said. "I am very content with my life now."
Yu Xiaoxuan was also worried that Fang Tong still harbored the slightest fantasy about Ding Minghui, which is why she told her the gossip about Ding Minghui. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have cared about Ding Minghui at all.
"Well, that’s good, that’s good. I was just afraid you’d do something silly," Yu Xiaoxuan said with a pat on her chest, recalling how Fang Tong had lost herself in her love for Ding Minghui, how tense things had been with her family, and how she had been gloomy and melancholic all day. It had been distressing for all of their friends to watch, but thankfully she had come to her senses in time.
Fang Tong rolled her eyes. "Everyone has their moment of falling for a scumbag. I was young and foolish back then, and I loved the wrong person."
Shen Qinglan actually agreed with Fang Tong’s thoughts. Making mistakes wasn’t scary; what was terrifying was repeatedly making mistakes and deceiving oneself without admitting it.
"By the way, Qinglan, what’s the relationship between Shen Junze and your family?" Fang Tong suddenly asked.
Shen Qinglan raised an eyebrow. "He’s my second uncle’s son, why do you ask?"
Fang Tong was surprised. "So he really is a member of your family. When I first saw his name at the company, I thought it was a coincidence. After all, his name is only one character different from your brother’s name. But then I didn’t remember any other brothers or sisters in your family, so I wondered if he might be a relative of yours."
"What did he do?" Shen Qinglan asked.
Fang Tong shook her head. "He didn’t do anything, but I was just curious when I saw his name. Since he is your second uncle’s son, why didn’t your brother arrange for him to be at the headquarters in Beijing, instead of sending him to a branch abroad?"
"When did he go to the branch abroad?" Shen Qinglan was genuinely unaware of this. Initially, Shen Junze had wanted Shen Junyu to take over the Shen Family business and had been rejected. Shen Qinglan had planned to polish him a bit more, to smooth out his rough edges and then to mentor him, but she had gradually forgotten about this matter. It must have been dealt with by Shen Junyu.
"Which department is he in, and what does he do?" Shen Qinglan asked.
"He’s in my department, Marketing, and he’s just a junior salesman," Fang Tong said, knowing what Shen Qinglan wanted to find out, and continued, "He should still not have graduated from college. During work, he’s quite proactive and takes his job seriously. As a junior salesman, he has a lot of tasks, but he doesn’t complain. I remember once working overtime until eleven at night, and when I left, I saw he was still there. I asked him, and he said he usually works until that time. Then at night, he goes home to review his textbooks because he wants to earn his college diploma."
Fang Tong had a good impression of Shen Junze. Although she was now in a leadership role and still had a lot of work to do herself, when Shen Junze saw her busy, he would lend a hand within his capacity. Naturally, Fang Tong was also willing to teach him.
Shen Qinglan raised an eyebrow, skeptical of whether the person Fang Tong was describing was really Shen Junze. By her estimate, it would have taken Shen Junze at least a year to reach the level Fang Tong described. Had he realized it already?
Could such a setback really have such a significant promotive effect on a person’s growth?
But either way, it was reassuring that Shen Junze was changing in the direction she had hoped for; it saved her a lot of effort and trouble.
"In work, be as strict as you need to be, even set difficult tasks for him. Don’t go easy on him," Shen Qinglan said.
Fang Tong asked in confusion, "Isn’t he your second uncle’s son? What’s this for?"
Shen Qinglan said indifferently, "Shen Junze’s personality needs tempering." Without going into detail, Fang Tong understood that Shen Qinglan did not wish to speak further and cleverly did not ask any more questions.
Yu Xiaoxuan’s phone rang; it was Han Yi asking when she would be coming home. Yu Xiaoxuan glanced at the teasing look in the eyes of the two and gritted her teeth, "I’ll go back in a bit."
After hanging up the phone, Fang Tong laughed suggestively. "Han Yi really treasures you. You’ve only been out for a short while, and he’s already worried. I bet when you’re pregnant, he’ll probably have to follow you wherever you go." Her eyes were filled with joy; seeing her close friend so happy made her very happy too.
Having been in show business for so long, Yu Xiaoxuan’s skin had thickened; she didn’t mind Fang Tong’s teasing and continued to smile, "That’s because my Han Yi cares about you, so go ahead and be jealous."
"It’s about time for us to leave too," Shen Qinglan said. Fang Tong had just returned, and was not going to be in the country for long, so it was only right to leave more time for her to spend with her family.
None of them had any objection. Fang Tong and Yu Xiaoxuan had driven themselves there, while Shen Qinglan had been brought by her family’s driver. When they left, Fang Tong didn’t call for her driver but instead drove Shen Qinglan back herself.
On the way, Fang Tong suddenly said, "Qinglan, thank you."
Even the usually clever Shen Qinglan was taken aback by Fang Tong’s words, not sure what she was being thanked for.
Fang Tong smiled and explained, "My dad’s job is going much smoother now, he’s looking more spirited, and it’s all thanks to you." If the Shen Family hadn’t shown their closeness to her family, others wouldn’t think her family had such a close relationship with the Shen Family. Even the wedding tomorrow, their family had received an invitation from the Shen Family.
Shen Qinglan understood and her lips curved into a slight smile, "It’s not a big deal at all, and your father is indeed very capable at his job." Most importantly, the suggestions that Fang Chengzhi had made were very convenient for the ordinary people, a practice that benefited the country and the people. For the Shen Family, showing a bit of closeness was a simple gesture.
"Maybe it’s not a big deal for you, but for our family, it’s a favor," Fang Tong said, her eyes full of gratitude. There was a time when her father was particularly downcast, and if it weren’t for her mother telling her about it, she wouldn’t have known the predicament her father was in, as she wasn’t from that circle and didn’t understand all the ins and outs.
"Fang Tong, there’s no need to be so formal between friends; if there’s anything you need me for in the future, feel free to ask directly. Don’t be afraid that others will say you’re only interacting with me because of my status, and don’t think that by asking, our friendship will be any less pure," Shen Qinglan said.
Fang Tong was momentarily stunned, not expecting Shen Qinglan to understand her worries, and gave a bitter smile, "Qinglan, so you knew all along."
Shen Qinglan smiled slightly; in fact, Fang Tong was a very simple person. She seemed clever, but her thoughts were not hard to guess, and Shen Qinglan understood, which is why she had never pointed it out.
A warm current flowed through Fang Tong’s heart as she softly said, "Qing Lan, did I pray to Buddha for five hundred years in my last life so that I could become good friends with you in this one?"
Shen Qinglan couldn’t help but laugh, "With that kind of talk, I might think you’re offering yourself to me."
Fang Tong smiled, "I don’t mind offering myself to you, it’s just whether your Mr. Fu minds or not."
Shen Qinglan smiled without a word.
When Shen Qinglan returned to the Fu Family home, she unexpectedly saw Jiang Chenxi there. She raised her eyebrows in surprise, and when Jiang Chenxi saw Shen Qinglan, he smiled in greeting, to which Shen Qinglan nodded in response.
"Aren’t you my brother’s groomsman? How do you have time to come over here?"
Jiang Chenxi laughed, "I just came from the Shen Family." The Shen family now had too many relatives and friends gathered, and the person he wanted to see wasn’t there, so he came to see Fu Hengyi.
As they were talking, they saw little Pei Hao coming downstairs, holding Old Sir Fu’s hand, and saying in a milky voice, "Grandpa, I’ll hold your hand as we walk, be careful of the stairs."
Old Sir Fu’s face bloomed into a chrysanthemum with a loving smile, "Alright, you lead the way for grandpa, such a sensible child."
The little one had already seen Shen Qinglan, his eyes lighting up, but he did not leave grandpa’s side and run over. Instead, he waited until grandpa had descended the stairs before running over, "Auntie."
Shen Qinglan smiled, pulling him into her arms, "Did you come over with Uncle Jiang today?"
Little Douding nodded, "Yeah, Mom said she’s coming over tomorrow, Auntie, I just saw another little girl at your other home."
Little Douding was the flower boy for the wedding tomorrow, and the other little girl must be a relative’s daughter, another flower child.
Shen Qinglan looked at him, "Haohao doesn’t like her?"
Little Douding shook his head, "Not at all, I really like her, her eyes are so beautiful."
Shen Qinglan smiled, it was rare for Little Douding to say he liked a little girl.
Jiang Chenxi’s dinner was had at the Fu Family’s, naturally with Little Douding as well. Little Douding whispered secretly to Shen Qinglan, "Auntie, I went back home to play with Uncle Jiang."
Shen Qinglan’s eyes fluttered slightly, "Is your Uncle Jiang’s home fun?"
"It’s a lot of fun, Uncle Jiang has toys, and most importantly, Granny Jiang and Grandpa Jiang are so nice to me, Granny Jiang made me lots of delicious food." He said, pinching his little belly, "Auntie, look, I’ve gotten fatter."
Little Douding was already chubby. Shen Qinglan glanced at his round belly and patted his head, "Does your mom know you went to Uncle Jiang’s house?"
"She doesn’t know, Uncle Jiang said I can’t tell Mom, otherwise Mom won’t let me go back home to play with Uncle Jiang. Auntie, I’m only telling you," Little Douding emphasized putting up a little finger, "so you can’t tell my mom either."
"Okay, your auntie won’t tell," Shen Qinglan agreed.
"What are you two whispering about?" Seeing them talking in hushed tones, Fu Hengyi asked with a smile.
Shen Qinglan pressed her lips together, not saying anything, while Little Douding’s eyes rolled, "I’m talking to Auntie about the little brother."
That clever rascal, Shen Qinglan was full of smiles.
After dinner, Jiang Chenxi left with Little Douding, after all, the little guy had to be busy tomorrow and needed to sleep early tonight.
**
The next day, Shen Qinglan was awakened by the child in her belly kicking, and Fu Hengyi woke up as well, frowning as he watched the lively child inside Shen Qinglan, placing his hand on her belly, "Be good, don’t bother Mommy."
But the little one in her belly seemed to be defying his father, becoming even more spirited. Shen Qinglan laughed, "It seems our little one knows that it’s uncle’s wedding today and can’t help but feel excited for uncle."
Fu Hengyi’s face darkened a bit, watching the child cause a ruckus, he was truly worried that an accident might injure Shen Qinglan’s belly, "After she is born, I must teach her a lesson; she doesn’t know how to cherish her own mother at all."
Shen Qinglan chuckled, "The little one is just happy today, you’re going to scare him with that expression."
Fu Hengyi’s face got even darker, looking at Shen Qinglan with a pitiful expression, "Wife, I’ve noticed that ever since you got pregnant, your heart isn’t with me anymore."
Shen Qinglan felt exasperated, looking at the man who was jealous even of an unborn child. This was when he thought it was his daughter; if he knew it was a son, wouldn’t he be even more jealous?
It seemed Miss Shen did indeed have a point.
Shen Qinglan leaned over and gave Fu Hengyi a kiss on the lips, "Definitely not, the person I love most is definitely you." After saying that, she tried to get up. Today was her brother’s wedding; they couldn’t be late.
Fu Hengyi looked at her as if she was soothing a child, feeling more jealous, pulled her back, and gave her a deep kiss, "Let your husband teach you what a morning kiss is."
After the kiss ended, Fu Hengyi’s head was buried in Shen Qinglan’s neck, breathing heavily, "I really brought this misery upon myself."
Sensing the change in his body, Shen Qinglan smiled beautifully, knowing that she was most sensitive in the morning and yet he dared to tease her. Now he knew how uncomfortable it was, right?
Miss Shen certainly didn’t pity this man at all.
Fu Hengyi let go of Shen Qinglan, seeing her gleeful expression, he laughed helplessly, and pinched her face, "Daring to laugh at me, I’ll see how I deal with you later." Considering there was just over a month left to unload the ball in her belly, Fu Hengyi was somewhat impatient.
Who says only a woman suffers during pregnancy? Men suffer too.
"You get up first, seeing you makes me feel even more uncomfortable," said Fu Hengyi.
Shen Qinglan glanced at a certain part of someone’s body, her laughter growing even more jubilant, she stood up and walked unabashedly into the bathroom.
Fu Hengyi lay on the bed, sighing in his heart, more determined than ever to get the surgery done once this one was born.
Shen Qinglan finished washing up and came out. Fu Hengyi had already changed his clothes. His legs had just started rehabilitation recently and he still couldn’t stand up, but compared to before, it was much better. Shen Qinglan stepped forward and helped him into the wheelchair.
After washing up and having breakfast, they went to the Shen Family’s home. Chu Yunrong had gone to the hotel early to make sure the scene was set up without mistakes.
Shen Junyu was also ready, and it was still early, not time for the bridal pickup yet, so he was just sitting on the sofa waiting. He looked calm, but Shen Qinglan could still see his real feelings from the subtle changes in his expression.
She sat down next to Shen Junyu, "Brother, are you nervous?"
Shen Junyu nodded, "Nervous, but it’s not all about being nervous. Lanlan, ever since I woke up this morning, my eyelid has been twitching. I’ve had a bad feeling in my heart. You don’t think something will go wrong at the wedding today, do you?"
Shen Qinglan was speechless, "Brother, thank goodness Mom didn’t hear you say that, or you’d just wait and see."
Shen Junyu also knew his worries were superfluous. For today’s wedding, both families had been preparing for nearly half a year; there should be no chance for things to go wrong.
"It’s okay, it’s your first time, it’s normal to be nervous. I was nervous when I got married too," Shen Qinglan consoled him, but Shen Junyu wasn’t comforted.
"Brother, you should look at it from a different angle. After today, Sister Xiyao will be your wife, and every day when you open your eyes, you’ll see her. Doesn’t that make you less nervous?"
Shen Junyu laughed softly, "When did you become so thick-skinned that you can speak such embarrassing words without blushing?"
Shen Qinglan glanced at him, "Do you believe I will tell Grandpa?" How dare he say she was thick-skinned.
Shen Junyu begged for mercy, "I was wrong, I was wrong. I don’t know how to speak, I beg for the mercy of the great lady."
Shen Qinglan smiled, straightened her expression, "Brother, seeing you about to marry the person you love and finding happiness, I am very happy."
"Silly girl, your brother is truly happy to see you doing well now."
"Sister Xiyao is a very good person, and I believe you will be even happier in the future. Brother, I am doing very well now. Fu Hengyi is also very good to me. You don’t have to worry about me anymore. Live your life with Sister Xiyao with peace of mind, and give Grandpa a great-grandson soon. I want to be an aunt sooner rather than later."
Shen Junyu’s nose tingled slightly. He reached out, intending to ruffle Shen Qinglan’s hair, but seeing her neatly arranged hair bun, he withdrew his hand and instead pinched her face. Shen Qinglan remained expressionless and slapped his hand away. What was wrong with him and Fu Hengyi? They both liked pinching her face.
Old Sir Shen was also in high spirits today because of the happy occasion, smiling at everyone he saw, and his smile broadened even more when he saw Shen Qinglan, "Lanlan, come over to Grandpa."
Shen Qinglan got up and walked over to the old gentleman, supporting him, "Grandpa, you’re very spirited today."
"Your brother is getting married; Grandpa is happy."
"Grandpa Shen, are you happy to see me?" Han Yi’s voice came from the door, dressed in a suit, and with him was none other than Yu Xiaoxuan.
"Happy, Grandpa is happy to see all of you."
Following Han Yi and Yu Xiaoxuan were Gu Yang, Gu Kai, and Jiang Chenxi. The few of them were groomsmen today, along with two other groomsmen, one being Yu Bin, the other a college classmate of Shen Junyu.
The time was almost up, and after exchanging greetings, everyone set off.
**
At a castle in Country Y.
The housekeeper looked at the woman who had called him, expressionless, "Madam."
Qin Yan squinted her eyes, looking at the housekeeper, "It’s getting increasingly difficult to see the housekeeper. Are you unwilling to see me, or do you not dare to see me?"
"Madam is joking," the housekeeper said indifferently.
Qin Yan laughed, "Housekeeper, I know you are loyal to Allen, but over all these years, I’ve also treated you well, haven’t I? I’m not asking you to let me out because I know you don’t have the authority, but I am just asking you to find a doctor for Xu Nuo to look at her limbs so she isn’t truly crippled. Though she might not be my biological daughter, she’s still my foster daughter, and I’ve not had an easy time raising and training her."
The housekeeper remained impassive, "The Young Master said not to get her a doctor." If Allen wanted to cripple Xu Nuo, why would he allow her to receive treatment.
Qin Yan’s gaze darkened, "Of course, I know that Allen wouldn’t allow it, which is why I’m asking you to please find a doctor to look at her."
"I cannot disobey the Young Master’s order," said the housekeeper. Defying Allen’s command could result in the same fate as Xu Nuo, who was a living example. Furthermore, Allen detested betrayal more than anything. If he genuinely helped Xu Nuo, it would be a betrayal of Allen, and if Allen found out, no matter how much the housekeeper had done for him in the past, his fate wouldn’t be much different from Xu Nuo’s.
Qin Yan had anticipated this outcome and spoke lightly, "Housekeeper, do not forget, it was I who saved your son three years ago. Your son owes me a life, and though I am now confined by Allen here, believe me, if I want your son dead, there are plenty of ways to do so. If you are willing to save her, consider your son’s debt repaid."
The housekeeper’s eyes shifted slightly. If Qin Yan threatened him, he wouldn’t be afraid, but his son was his only weakness, his only child. If something happened to his son, he would have no reason left to live. And he was very clear about what Qin Yan was capable of because he had worked with her for many years; he knew she wasn’t joking.
This is Allen’s territory. Qin Yan can’t do anything here, but outside, even Allen probably couldn’t do anything to Qin Yan, this woman’s many years of hard work wasn’t for nothing.
The housekeeper’s gaze shifted, uncertain. Qin Yan didn’t hurry him, certain in her belief. She trusted the housekeeper was a smart man and would understand. As for her treatment of Xu Nuo, it wasn’t because of some deep mother-daughter affection but because Xu Nuo was still useful to her. If Xu Nuo’s limbs were truly ruined, even if she survived, she would be nothing but a waste, and Qin Yan had no need for waste by her side.
"Alright, I can help you this once, but calling a doctor is very risky. I’ll set Xu Nuo’s bones myself," the housekeeper finally said after a long consideration.
Qin Yan smiled with satisfaction, "Good."
From beginning to end, Xu Nuo didn’t say a word, not even a change in expression. The housekeeper opened the door to Xu Nuo’s cell, walked over to her, and looked down at her condescendingly. It was a pity that Xu Nuo, who had been well trained by Allen over the years, fell in love with someone she shouldn’t have.
Xu Nuo’s eyes moved slightly. Her limbs had been broken for some time now, and setting them again meant breaking them once more, a pain far worse than setting the bones. The housekeeper, though unremarkable usually, was known by very few to be medically knowledgeable. He might not be outstanding in other respects, but setting bones was something he did very well. That was why Qin Yan had spoken up earlier. Bringing an outside doctor in would have been impossible to hide from Allen.
The housekeeper crouched down, examined Xu Nuo, took a handkerchief from his pocket, stuffed it into her mouth, then there was a crisp snap. Xu Nuo’s face turned pale instantly, and cold sweat broke out. But that wasn’t the end. Several consecutive snapping sounds followed as the bones that had healed crookedly were broken once more, bringing on a wave of agonising pain, after which her limbs no longer held a strange position.
The handkerchief was removed, and Xu Nuo’s body was drenched in sweat like she had been fished out of water, gasping for breath, exhaling more than inhaling. Seeing her like this, the housekeeper’s eyes flashed as he explained to Qin Yan, "Her pain tolerance is too poor."
The implication was that he hadn’t done anything underhanded during the procedure. Qin Yan had been watching, and seeing that Xu Nuo didn’t even have that much endurance, a trace of disgust flickered in her eyes. Such a useless thing.
The task done, the housekeeper left. Qin Yan didn’t see the darkness in housekeeper’s eyes after he left; he had lied to Qin Yan. He did tinker with Xu Nuo, choosing the most painful method of bone-setting amongst many. Just enduring such pain would be difficult even for someone like Andre, let alone Xu Nuo. The housekeeper hadn’t expected Xu Nuo not to faint from the pain.
The follow-up pain from this method would only intensify, but the upside was a quicker recovery. If Xu Nuo could withstand the escalating pain, she could recover quickly. If not, heh...
Leaving the dungeon, the housekeeper bumped into Allen as he returned to the castle, his expression unchanged as he looked down, "Young Master."
Allen stared at the housekeeper calmly, "Went to see Qin Yan?"
The housekeeper didn’t deny it and even mentioned the bone-setting for Xu Nuo, "You can rest assured, Young Master, I just went through the motions. Xu Nuo’s injuries will only worsen."
Allen’s gaze was icy as he looked at the housekeeper, "Did I not say that no one is to treat that wretch?"
The housekeeper looked down at the ground, "You did."
"Heh, I said so and yet you did this? Housekeeper, are you betraying me now?" Allen’s voice was hoarse.
The housekeeper’s face changed, "Young Master, I have no intention of betraying you."
Allen’s eyes filled with rage, then closed and when they reopened, they regained composure, "This is the first and the last time. For the sake of my deceased mother, I will give you one more chance."
"Thank you, Young Master. There won’t be a next time." The housekeeper spoke. While in the dungeon, he had thought about concealing the truth from Allen, but Allen was not so easily deceived. Now, if he spoke the truth, he might still have a chance to survive. If Allen found out later, he would have nowhere to escape.
"Oh, and Young Master, this is a message just arrived from Beijing." The housekeeper handed over a stack of documents. Allen looked through them, a smirk on his lips, "My Xiaoqi is indeed the smartest, managing without my hint to link Qin Yan and Mrs. Jin and even found out that Qin Yan is a fake."
He was brimming with pride as if Shen Qinglan’s ability to guess this was a very pleasing matter to him. Flipping to the back, there were recent photos of Shen Qinglan, with Fu Hengyi, enjoying their time outside. Shen Qinglan was heavily pregnant and pushing a wheelchair, her smile gentle. This wasn’t the first time Allen had seen such a smile, but every time he did, his heart would wrench with pain, adding another layer of hatred for Fu Hengyi.
His fingers turned white as he pinched the documents before tossing them aside, "Today is Xiaoqi’s wedding, isn’t it?"
The housekeeper nodded.
"As for Qin Yan’s people..."
"Qin Yan was detained before she had a chance to contact her own people, so she still doesn’t know about the Shen Family wedding."
Allen nodded, "Since she doesn’t know, then there’s no need for her to know. You can leave now."
The housekeeper responded with a yes and walked out. Allen picked up the documents again, flipped to the last page, looked at Shen Qinglan’s smiling face, stretched out his hand, and gently caressed it, his eyes tender, "Xiaoqi, I bet your child is really adorable."
**
Beijing.
After Shen Junyu left to pick up the bride, Shen Qinglan went to the hotel with Fu Hengyi, accompanied by the two Old Sirs and Shen Qian.
Shen Qinglan arrived at the hotel before Shen Junyu had arrived, knowing full well there would be challenges - picking up the bride was never a quick affair.
The wedding of the Shen Family’s eldest grandson was certainly a grand event. It was no less magnificent than when Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi had their wedding, perhaps even more so considering the number of attendees this time was several times more.
Shen Junze also appeared this time, accompanied by Lu Yaqin.
"Grandpa," Shen Junze greeted Old Sir Shen with a call, his expression uneasy.
Old Sir Shen nodded and grunted in response, which counted as an acknowledgment. Shen Junyu had already spoken to him about Shen Junze’s situation. The old man knew that what Shen Qinglan and Shen Junyu were doing was for his own good, which eased his heart even further.
As for the change in Shen Junze, Shen Junyu had already informed him. No matter how dissatisfied Old Sir Shen was with his grandson, he wouldn’t completely ignore him. Since Shen Junze recognized his mistakes and sought to correct them, naturally, he deserved a chance.
Lu Yaqin also greeted Old Sir Shen, but he did not pay her any attention, leaving her face to redden with embarrassment. It was Chu Yunrong who came over and took her away, under the pretense of being too busy and needing her help with the guests.
"Now that you’re learning at Jun Yu’s company, study well," Old Sir Shen finally said once Lu Yaqin had left. It wasn’t that he was deliberately targeting Lu Yaqin; rather, Shen Junze’s past actions irritated him greatly.
"I know, I definitely will study hard, Grandpa," Shen Junze said, aware that Shen Junyu and Shen Qinglan were assisting him. He felt grateful, yet also guilty.
If he had recognized Lu Jincai’s true colors sooner, he might not have reached this point. Thankfully, it wasn’t too late to wake up. Shen Junze recalled what Shen Junyu’s assistant had said when they found him. At that time, being rejected by Shen Junyu once more, he had felt quite disheartened. When Yu Bin found him, he said, "The CEO said he can’t take over the Shen Family business, but he’s willing to give you a chance to learn. Estimate three years’ time, go to Junlan Group’s branch in M Country, start from the bottom, and if you can reach the position of department manager within three years and get an MBA degree, he might consider helping you take back the Shen Family business. There’s no need to rush back; the CEO has given you three days to think about it. If you agree, report to the marketing department of Junlan Group’s M Country branch after three days. If you don’t wish to, then act as if he never made the offer."
In reality, the next afternoon, he was at the base of Junlan Group’s M Country branch. Nobody in the company knew he was the CEO’s cousin; he didn’t reveal it and diligently went about his work. Occasionally, when someone made the connection with Shen Junyu’s name, he would dismiss the topic, calling it a coincidence.
This period spent at Junlan Group was the busiest yet most fulfilling time he had experienced in his past twenty years. He really learned a lot, not least of which was how to take care of himself. Originally, Lu Yaqin had intended to follow him and look after his daily needs, but he had refused.
He knew his mother only had Lu Jincai as a relative and was reluctant to let go of that connection. Rather than forcing her to make a choice, it was better for him to do it. Lu Yaqin was aware that her son had distanced himself because of Lu Jincai, but she had her own difficulties. The Shen Family was not willing to care for them anymore, and their livelihood was provided by Lu Jincai. If one day Lu Jincai truly stopped supporting them, what would they eat and drink?
Before marrying Shen Rang, Lu Yaqin had known days of hardship, but years as a wealthy wife had long since eroded her ability to live independently. Now, she was like a dodder flower, only able to cling to others for existence.
Shen Junze looked at Shen Qinglan, "Sister Qinglan." Shen Qinglan nodded.
Shen Junze opened his mouth as if to say something, but upon seeing Shen Qinglan’s chilly gaze, ultimately said nothing.
"Qinglan," Yu Xiaoxuan approached Shen Qinglan with a smile, "I just met your future sister-in-law. She looks so beautiful today. Of course, you are the most beautiful in my eyes."
"Has she arrived?" Shen Qinglan asked.
"Yes, just arrived. There’s still some time before the wedding starts, so the bride went to the resting room at the back. Would you like to go together?"
Shen Qinglan thought for a moment, then nodded, "Sure, wait for me a moment, I have something to take care of."
She walked to the corner and called Jin Enxi, "Enxi, have you found anything?" She had seen someone who looked like Du Nan at the mall yesterday and was worried that today’s wedding might face some mishap, so she had asked Jin Enxi to help monitor the surveillance to prevent Du Nan from sneaking in.
"No discoveries. Du Nan probably won’t show up. After all, their family’s business has just started to improve. If he dares to disrupt the wedding, the Wen Family definitely won’t let their family off."
Unless Du Nan no longer cared for his family’s business, he certainly wouldn’t commit such a self-destructive act.
"Better to be safe than sorry. It’s always good to be prepared," Shen Qinglan said flatly.
"Got it, I’ll definitely keep a close watch on all the entrances and ensure Du Nan doesn’t slip in," Jin Enxi assured with a pat on her chest.
At the entrance, Chu Yunrong and Mrs. Wen were receiving guests when they saw two unexpected people—Du Honghai and Mrs. Du.
Mrs. Wen’s smile stiffened a bit. She remembered that she hadn’t sent the Du Family an invitation. The intention behind their self-invitation was clear enough. What did the Du couple’s presence here imply?
Du Honghai smiled, "Sister-in-law, since Xi Yao is marrying, we’ve come uninvited to drink a cup of celebration. You don’t mind, do you?"
Could Mrs. Wen say she minded? But today was her daughter’s wedding, and there were so many guests present. It wasn’t something easy to express. She forced a smile and said, "How could I? I’m more than welcoming." She then nonchalantly added, "Why didn’t Du Nan come with you?"
Du Honghai knew what she was worried about and explained, "The company couldn’t spare him; Du Nan is still in Hai City."
Upon hearing this, Mrs. Wen also put her mind at ease and let the two enter.
Chu Yunrong curiously watched their retreating figures, "Who are they?"
Mrs. Wen smiled, "Former business partners, though we haven’t worked together much recently."
Chu Yunrong had asked the question casually and didn’t linger on the subject.
Shen Qinglan and Yu Xiaoxuan entered the resting room at the back and saw Wen Xiyao in a white wedding dress. Today, she was indeed as beautiful as Yu Xiaoxuan had described, stunningly so.
