Chapter 350: 352. Ya Xi is Here (2 more updates)
Ya Xi had already woken up and had heard the conversation between the doctor and Yan Anbang, but she kept her eyes closed.
Yan Anbang followed the doctor to get the medicine, and when he returned, Ya Xi seemed to be asleep with her eyes closed, but her eyelids were trembling slightly.
Yan Anbang spoke softly, "Ya Xi, Daddy knows you’re awake, and I want to talk to you about this. Daddy knows you resent me, but Xiao Xi, Daddy loves you. No matter what the relationship between your mom and me, I always love you. I’m really sorry about what happened with your mom, but Aunt Qin isn’t a homewrecker. When Daddy married her, your mom and I were already divorced."
"The reason we didn’t tell you about this was considering your health. You were just recovering from a serious illness back then, and the doctor said you couldn’t be stimulated in the slightest. Your mom and I kept it from you for your own good."
Ya Xi opened her eyes and looked quietly at Yan Anbang, "Did that woman have a daughter with you?"
Yan Anbang stalled, meeting his daughter’s clear eyes, suddenly unsure how to explain, and asked instead, "Ya Xi, who told you about this?"
A flicker of confusion quickly passed through Ya Xi’s eyes. Yes, who had told her that? Why did she know, and why did she blurt it out so naturally?
However, Yan Anbang interpreted Ya Xi’s reaction as her being unwilling to say.
The number of people who knew about this was limited, and it wasn’t hard to guess. Yan Shengyu wouldn’t have told Ya Xi, so it must have been Zhao Jiaqing. His resentment towards Zhao Jiaqing deepened a notch.
Ya Xi remained silent, but Yan Anbang did not, continuing to speak, "Ya Xi, this is a complex issue, tied to an old matter between your mom and me. It has nothing to do with you and your brother. Daddy also hopes you can view this calmly and not hold a bias against Daddy just because I divorced your mom and remarried."
Listening to Yan Anbang’s words, Ya Xi couldn’t describe her feelings. Her heart suddenly felt very calm, like still water.
She quietly watched Yan Anbang’s lips moving, hearing his words, but it seemed like there was no sound at all, and the scene gradually receded and blurred.
Yan Anbang talked for a long time, but seeing that Ya Xi had no response, he suddenly felt powerless, powerless towards Ya Xi.
When Yan Shengyu arrived at the hospital, his expression was dark. Even knowing that Ya Xi was alright, his anger hadn’t subsided at all. Seeing Yan Anbang, he didn’t even greet him.
Qin Yan stood outside the hospital room, her eyes smiling at the scene, but once inside the room, her expression changed to one of guilt and urgency.
"Anbang, is Ya Xi alright?"
When Ya Xi saw her, her expression immediately changed, and Yan Shengyu, who had been watching her closely, turned his head to Qin Yan and said, "Please leave."
Qin Yan stiffened, unable to speak, and though Yan Anbang felt pity, seeing Ya Xi’s look, he still said, "Yanyan, go on home now. We don’t need you here."
Qin Yan’s expression was somber, but she still smiled, "I’ll leave now." She glanced at Ya Xi, "Ya Xi, no matter how much hostility or confusion you have towards me, or whatever thoughts you may have about me marrying your dad, that’s between us adults. Your dad truly cares about you, and he didn’t tell you because he was afraid it would hurt you. I hope you don’t misunderstand your dad’s good intentions. I’ll leave now so you can rest."
Ya Xi tilted her head, unwilling to look at her, and Qin Yan sighed deeply before leaving.
"You should go too," Ya Xi said, addressing Yan Anbang, not wanting to see him as her emotions were in turmoil.
"Ya Xi," Yan Anbang called out her name.
Yan Shengyu looked at Yan Anbang, "Xiao Xi is unwell right now, please don’t agitate her further."
The words Yan Anbang wanted to say got stuck in his throat, and he sighed before leaving the hospital room.
The room was left with only Ya Xi and Yan Shengyu. Yan Shengyu looked at Ya Xi, but she spoke first, "Brother, don’t speak. Let me be alone for a while."
"Alright, brother won’t talk. I’ll just stay here with you. If you need anything, just tell me."
Ya Xi nodded and tilted her head, gazing out of the window lost in thought.
Just moments ago, a series of unfamiliar images had flashed through her mind, quickly passing by before she could grasp them, disappearing before she could recall them.
"Brother, where is my phone?" Ya Xi suddenly spoke.
Yan Shengyu was slightly stunned, handing her phone to her. Taking it, Ya Xi looked at the contacts, her finger hesitating above the screen for a long time before she ultimately didn’t press it and set the phone aside, "Brother, I’m sleepy."
"Then sleep, brother is here with you, I absolutely won’t disturb you."
Ya Xi closed her eyes, longing to return to Xueli City. Everything here suffocated her with its turmoil.
Yan Shengyu waited until Ya Xi had completely fallen asleep before walking out of the hospital room, and after he left, Ya Xi, who should have been sound asleep, suddenly opened her eyes and put on her shoes to leave.
When Yan Shengyu returned and didn’t see Ya Xi, his expression slightly changed. He asked the nurse, who said that Ya Xi left on her own to take a walk downstairs. Yan Shengyu searched the entire hospital but couldn’t find Ya Xi.
He called Ya Xi, and she didn’t answer, but she sent him a message saying she wanted to be alone to think things through and would come back after figuring things out, promising not to do anything foolish.
Shen Qinglan was at home painting, with Fu Hengyi still serving as her model. Recently, she had grown fond of painting Fu Hengyi and spent time in the living room drawing him whenever she had a chance.
When she heard that someone was looking for her, Shen Qinglan was still puzzled, but she was even more surprised when she saw Ya Xi.
"Ya Xi?"
Ya Xi forced a smile, which, paired with her pale face, didn’t look good at all. "I’m sorry, big sister, for coming to see you so suddenly, but I really had nowhere else to go."
Shen Qinglan’s eyes flickered slightly as she stepped aside, "Come in first."
Ya Xi entered and saw Fu Hengyi, pausing briefly. Fu Hengyi, upon seeing the visitor, didn’t say anything but told Shen Qinglan, "I’ll go inside first." Shen Qinglan nodded.
Shen Qinglan poured a glass of water for Ya Xi and set it in front of her. "How did you find me?"
Holding the glass in her hands, Ya Xi felt cold. Hearing Shen Qinglan’s question, she quietly answered, "There is information about you online; it says you married into the Fu family, who live in this compound, so I came looking."
"What if I didn’t live here?" asked Shen Qinglan.
"I just wanted to try my luck; if I couldn’t find you, I would have left."
Shen Qinglan looked at her, not sure what to think, "Why did you want to find me?"
Ya Xi shook her head, "I don’t know. Today, while I was in the hospital, I suddenly really wanted to see you. The idea was so strong that even I was surprised, so I came."
Ya Xi couldn’t explain the impulse she felt inside, but fortunately, Shen Qinglan showed no displeasure. Ya Xi quietly sighed in relief; on her way here, she had imagined that she might be turned away or considered crazy, but thankfully, Shen Qinglan felt as kind and approachable as Ya Xi had sensed, and none of her fears materialized.
"I’m sorry for showing up like this. I know it’s not polite, but I also don’t know why I wanted to see you so badly," Ya Xi whispered.
Shen Qinglan gave a slight smile, but a hint of pain flickered in her eyes. She knew the reason Ya Xi acted this way, and it made her even more saddened. Ah, Ya Xi, how I wish you could completely forget me, not subconsciously seeing me as someone trustworthy and reliable.
"It’s okay, you can come see me anytime," Shen Qinglan said, "Do your family know you’re here?"
Ya Xi shook her head, and in Shen Qinglan’s eyes was a knowing expression, "Running out like this will worry your family."
Lowering her head, Ya Xi spoke softly, "I know, but I don’t want to see them. Big sister, I know I’m being willful, but I just want to stay with you for a while. I promise I won’t disturb you for long; I’ll leave soon."
Shen Qinglan, unable to help herself, clarified, "I don’t mean that. You can stay here as long as you like; I just hope you can inform your family, so they don’t worry. Or, could you give me your family’s phone number, and I’ll call to let them know?"
Ya Xi gave Yan Shengyu’s phone number to Shen Qinglan, who called him in front of Ya Xi. Yan Shengyu, knowing Ya Xi was with Shen Qinglan, was both unexpected yet understandable, merely mentioning, "Ya Xi already knows about our parents’ divorce, and she’s very upset. I’d appreciate if you could take care of her. I’ll come to pick her up tomorrow."
Shen Qinglan glanced at Ya Xi and hummed in acknowledgment.
"Your brother said he’ll come to pick you up tomorrow," Shen Qinglan informed her.
Ya Xi nodded, "Thank you, big sister. I’m sorry for the trouble."
A hint of compassion flashed in Shen Qinglan’s eyes as she looked at the distressed Ya Xi, suddenly unsure whether what she had done in the past was right or wrong. Experiencing such sadness and shock twice was enough to break anyone.
"It’s no trouble; I liked you since we met in Xueli City, though at the time I only told you my English name, which I feel somewhat apologetic about."
Unexpectedly, Ya Xi brightened up at this, "An is your English name, not a pseudonym?"
Hearing this, Shen Qinglan had to smile though a bit helplessly, "Yes, it’s my English name."
With this confirmation that Shen Qinglan hadn’t lied to her, Ya Xi’s spirits lifted slightly, feeling a bit healed despite the deep sadness inside.
