Chapter 310: 311. Old Sir Shen’s Request (Update 32)
"What gives you the right to speak of my mom like that, I think my mom is great. If she were not, why would my dad have chosen her over those so-called daughters of good families?"
Watching Old Sir Shen’s face change, Lu Yaqin quickly grabbed Shen Junze, "Jun Ze, stop talking."
Shen Junze wanted to continue, but upon meeting Old Sir Shen’s icy gaze, he instantly didn’t dare to make a sound.
Old Sir Shen continued, "The company or your mom, you can choose one, but if you decide on seeing your mother, from then on the Shen Family will act as if it doesn’t have a grandson like you, even if you die before my eyes, I won’t give you a second glance."
Shen Junze and Lu Yaqin’s faces could no longer be described as just unsightly. Shen Junze was about to rage when Lu Yaqin pulled him back, stopping him from speaking, "Dad, it’s my fault for not teaching him well, please don’t be angry. I will talk to him properly; we will leave for now."
Saying that, Lu Yaqin dragged Shen Junze away with her.
Once the two had left, Shen Qinglan sat down beside the elder, speaking softly, "Grandpa, why go to such lengths? I know it pains you to see Second Uncle’s only child turn out this way, and you want to bring Jun Ze back on track, but actually, we can approach this matter differently. By doing this now, aren’t you just making him resent you?"
Old Sir Shen let out a deep sigh and patted Shen Qinglan’s hand, "You’re the only one who understands your grandpa. I had no choice. Jun Ze is grown; his personality is set. I can’t straighten him out without being strict, I can’t just watch him go astray."
Shen Qinglan was silent, afraid that in the end, Shen Junze would still fail to appreciate the old man’s sincere intentions.
"Grandpa knows what you’re worried about, but I am already one foot in the grave, so whether I will be resented a little doesn’t matter. Whether he understands or not, as long as he turns out alright in the future, I can fulfill my promise made to your Second Uncle before he passed away," said the senior.
Shen Qinglan gently leaned on the elder’s shoulder, "Grandpa, you’re just a softy at heart. Let me handle this." She couldn’t bear to see the old man enraged at his age.
Old Sir Shen smiled contentedly, "Your grandpa isn’t that fragile. I can take this little trouble. Your main job now is to rest well and give me a healthy, chubby great-grandson. Then even if I die, I will have done right by your grandma."
"Grandpa, don’t talk like that. You still have to watch my child grow up and get married."
Old Sir Shen laughed heartily, "That would be wonderful. If I really live to see that day, it’ll be worth not reincarnating in the next life."
"See, you’re talking nonsense again."
Old Sir Shen’s gloom over the matter with Shen Junze vanished with just a few words from Shen Qinglan.
Sister-in-law Song, having witnessed the whole process, also smiled. No wonder the old master and mistress were most fond of Qinglan; she might appear cold on the outside, but she truly had a gentle heart. Her respect for the two elders met with their deep affection for her.
Back when Li Xitong was still with the Shen Family, she always accused the elders of favoring Shen Qinglan, but she never considered whether she truly held the elders in her heart as Shen Qinglan did.
Knowing that Old Sir Shen was in a bad mood that day, Shen Qinglan accompanied him for lunch and joined him in pruning plants in the greenhouse until the elder went upstairs to rest, only then did she leave.
In the following days, Shen Junze and Lu Yaqin didn’t visit the Shen Family again. Shen Qinglan, on the other hand, enjoyed the peace; she was either painting in the studio or chatting and playing chess with the two old men, living quite comfortably.
Her belly had started to show, but because she was thin, it wasn’t particularly noticeable.
In the evening, Fu Hengyi had a video call with Shen Qinglan, and looking at her slightly protruding belly, he said, "By the time I come back, our little one should have grown quite a bit."
Shen Qinglan’s hand rested on her belly, gently stroking it with tender love in her eyes. "Mmm, the doctor said you can start feeling fetal movements after four months. Although our child hasn’t started moving yet, by the time you return, he probably will."
Fu Hengyi knew about fetal movements. After all, since Shen Qinglan got pregnant, he had made an effort to learn about these things in detail.
"Have you told Mom about the second prenatal check-up next Monday?" Fu Hengyi remembered the main issue he had called about today.
Shen Qinglan nodded, "Yes, Mom has already contacted the doctor, and the doctor said that we need to do a Down syndrome screening this time."
Shen Qinglan had already undergone a fetal abnormality check during her first prenatal check-up because she had been taking Chinese medicine for a few months and had also suffered an injury in between. She was concerned it could have affected the fetus. Although Doctor Zhong had told her it wouldn’t affect it, Shen Qinglan’s heart was always worried until they checked.
"Have Aunt Zhao accompany you, and remember to bring breakfast. After the check-up, eat your breakfast first. Don’t skip it just because you’re not hungry," Fu Hengyi instructed carefully, fearing that he might have missed something and Qinglan wouldn’t notice, leading her to neglect herself.
Shen Qinglan listened seriously to Fu Hengyi’s instructions without any sign of impatience.
It wasn’t until Shen Qinglan started to feel sleepy that Fu Hengyi reluctantly hung up the phone.

On Monday, Chu Yunrong got up early, prepared everything for Shen Qinglan, and then went to the Fu Family home. Shen Qinglan hadn’t gotten out of bed yet; Chu Yunrong didn’t rush her but waited in the living room, chatting with Old Sir Fu.
She had completely let go of the orchestra business, even turning down occasional performance invitations. Her entire focus was now on Shen Qinglan, constantly revolving around her, a complete turnaround from the Chu Yunrong of the past.
An hour later, when Shen Qinglan came downstairs, she saw Chu Yunrong waiting for her in the living room and asked, "Mom, why didn’t you wake me up?"
Chu Yunrong smiled, "It’s all right, I didn’t have anything pressing to attend to, so waiting was fine. Everything is ready; shall we go now?"
Shen Qinglan nodded and told Old Sir Fu, "Grandfather, I’m going to leave now."
Old Sir Fu smiled warmly, nodding, "Go ahead. Call grandfather after the check-up, and I’ll have Auntie make you something delicious to eat."
"Okay."
Having completed a series of examinations at the hospital, Shen Qinglan was just about to leave when she saw an unexpected person there. She raised her eyebrows slightly and watched as the figure walked into the department of obstetrics and gynecology, following behind.
"Qinglan, where are you going?" Chu Yunrong asked her.
"Mom, I saw someone familiar. I’ll go say hello. You and Aunt Zhao wait here for me; I’ll be back soon."
Shen Qinglan trailed the person into the inpatient section of the obstetrics and gynecology department, seeing them enter a hospital room, she followed along.
