The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife -
Chapter 274. Who is playing tricks?
Chapter 274: 274. Who is playing tricks?
Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi exchanged a glance. After pondering for a moment, Shen Qinglan asked, "Did the doctor say when my uncle will wake up?"
Gu Kai shook his head, "No, it depends on the situation."
Fu Jingtong, though in a daze, heard Gu Kai’s words. She stood up, gazed at the person in the ICU full of tubes, and remained silent.
Shen Qinglan also didn’t know what to say. Originally, she and Gu Yang had intended to stage an accident for their uncle to make it seem serious, in order to help their aunt come to terms with her issues. But that was supposed to be a facade, whereas this time it was real. Now that their uncle was lying there—his life hanging in the balance—it’s possible he might truly be gone.
"Has Gu Yang been notified?" Fu Hengyi asked solemnly.
"He has been notified; Gu Yang is on his way back."
As they were speaking, Gu Yang appeared, dressed in combat fatigues and drenched in sweat, "How is my father?"
Gu Kai repeated the same thing he had told Shen Qinglan to Gu Yang, who stood silently beside Fu Jingtong, and for a moment, no one spoke.
After a long time, Fu Jingtong finally spoke in a hoarse voice, "Qinglan, Hengyi, you two should go back first. Don’t tell the elders at home about this; I can handle it here."
"Aunt," Fu Hengyi called out.
Fu Jingtong didn’t turn around, her gaze still fixed on Gu Bowen, "Go back."
After leaving the hospital, Shen Qinglan saw that Fu Hengyi looked grave and comforted him, "Don’t worry, my uncle will be protected by the heavens and will be fine. Or maybe I should call Eden over. His medical skills are excellent, and he will surely find a way."
Fu Hengyi hummed in response, though the worry in his heart did not abate.
Shen Qinglan, sensing that something was wrong, asked, "What’s the matter?"
Fu Hengyi frowned, "It just feels a bit too coincidental." Their uncle had just been to the company, and just like that, a drunk driver’s car was heading straight for him.
At this, Shen Qinglan’s eyes shifted slightly, "Are you saying that all of this was orchestrated by someone?"
Fu Hengyi shook his head, "I’m not sure, but I just feel like this matter isn’t that simple."
His instincts were usually accurate. For people like Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi, who often faced life-and-death situations, they had an intuition beyond that of ordinary people. Since Fu Hengyi felt this way, it was certainly necessary to investigate this matter.
"I’ll have Enxi look into it."
Fu Hengyi nodded. In a couple of days, his vacation would be over, "If this incident is just an accident, then so be it. But if someone is behind this..." Fu Hengyi’s tone turned cold.
"If someone is behind this, then naturally we can’t just let it go. Don’t worry; I have a sense of measure," Shen Qinglan said.
After returning home, Shen Qinglan made a call to Jin Enxi and then went to bed.
Fu Hengyi was also not idle; he dialed a series of numbers, intending to contact a leader at the traffic department to get the surveillance footage from the day of the incident. Once Fu Hengyi spoke up, naturally, the other party would not refuse and promised to send the information over the next day.
"Don’t worry, get some rest. We will get to the bottom of this." Seeing that Shen Qinglan wasn’t sleeping, Fu Hengyi wrapped his arms around her and spoke softly.
Shen Qinglan nodded, "I know." Although she said this, she was preoccupied with the incident and, even though she fell asleep, she did not rest peacefully.
The next day, the surveillance footage arrived. Jin Enxi had already come to their house. After watching the footage with Shen Qinglan, she suddenly said, "Something’s not right, this tape has been tampered with."
Hearing this, Fu Hengyi’s gaze shifted as he asked in a deep voice, "What do you mean? The tape has been edited?"
Jin Enxi nodded, "Yes, about five minutes of content are missing. Look here." She moved the mouse, pointing at the time on the screen, "There’s a five-minute gap."
Initially, Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi had only paid attention to the surveillance images and had overlooked the time issue. Now, it was clear there was a problem.
"Qinglan, I need to step out for a bit," said Fu Hengyi.
Shen Qinglan nodded, not asking where he was going. After Fu Hengyi left, she turned to Jin Enxi, "Is there any way to obtain the original tape?"
Jin Enxi hesitated before responding, "I can try, but I can’t guarantee it." As she spoke, she sat down, her fingers quickly typing on the keyboard. After a while, Jin Enxi frowned and said, "An, the data has been destroyed. The person acted very cautiously, leaving no trace. I can’t find it, sorry."
Hearing this, a look of gravity flashed across Shen Qinglan’s eyes, "It’s okay."
This incident was clearly no accident, but who could it be, and why target Gu Bowen? Could it be one of Gu Bowen’s business rivals?
Shen Qinglan thought for a moment and called Gu Kai, "Has my uncle offended anyone in the business world recently?"
Gu Kai seemed puzzled by the question and instinctively replied, "Not at all. My uncle always acts with kindness and rarely offends anyone; he has a good reputation."
If it wasn’t a business rival, then it seemed even less likely to be someone from his personal life. For the time being, Shen Qinglan was at a loss.
Gu Kai faintly sensed something and asked, "Sister-in-law, are you suspecting that my uncle’s car accident was not an accident?"
"For now, nothing can be confirmed, but I will try to uncover the truth. With my uncle in this condition, he won’t be able to go to the office for a while."
"I’m at the office, and I will keep this hidden from the staff for now." Originally, Gu Bowen had already told the company executives about his plans to go abroad, so keeping it hidden wasn’t too difficult.
"Alright, I’ll leave the company matters to you. If you encounter any difficulties, you can go to my brother." Shen Junyu was more skilled in business matters.
Knowing that Shen Qinglan was pregnant, Gu Kai didn’t forget to add, "Okay, Sister-in-law, don’t worry too much about my uncle’s situation. Take care of your health."
Shen Qinglan hung up the phone and exchanged a glance with Jin Enxi. For a moment, they didn’t know how to proceed and could only wait at home for Fu Hengyi to return.
Fu Hengyi wasn’t gone for long, and by looking at his expression, Shen Qinglan could guess the situation. Indeed, Fu Hengyi’s next words confirmed Shen Qinglan’s speculation, "The original data was also destroyed. We can’t currently trace who had access to this video evidence."
"I can’t find anything on my end either. Our leads are completely cut off now. Perhaps we can only wait until uncle wakes up to know more," Shen Qinglan said.
Fu Hengyi wiped his face and nodded. Seeing that there was nothing left for her to do, Jin Enxi left.
*******
In the hospital, Fu Jingtong still stood outside the ICU, staring motionlessly at Gu Bowen lying inside. Gu Yang saw that she hadn’t even changed her shoes and was only wearing a light jacket. He took off his military overcoat and draped it over Fu Jingtong’s shoulders. "Mom, you should go home and change before coming back."
Fu Jingtong appeared as if she hadn’t heard him, completely unresponsive.
Gu Yang repeated himself, but seeing that Fu Jingtong remained unresponsive, he said nothing more, standing by her side and watching the person inside with her.
Fu Jingtong stood there the entire night. The next morning, when the doctor came to check on Gu Bowen, Fu Jingtong’s eyes were tightly fixed on the doctor, not blinking even once. As soon as the doctor stepped out, Fu Jingtong crowded around him, "Doctor, how is he?"
The doctor glanced at Fu Jingtong and asked, "What’s your relationship with the patient?"
Fu Jingtong hesitated for a moment, then spoke up, "I’m his ex-wife."
"It’s like this, the patient has passed the critical period, but there’s a blood clot in his brain. We can’t perform surgery at the moment. When he can wake up depends on his luck."
Upon hearing this, Fu Jingtong initially felt joy, but upon hearing the rest, the joy on her face quickly froze, "Doctor, are you saying he might become a vegetative state?"
The doctor shook his head. "No, no, no, you misunderstand me. Mr. Gu is not in a vegetative state. It’s just that the blood clot in his brain is pressing on his nerves, and he temporarily can’t wake up. Once the blood clot naturally diminishes, he can wake up. Of course, if after some time the blood clot doesn’t diminish, we will consider performing surgery on Mr. Gu to remove the clot."
Fu Jingtong felt reassured at this, but before her heart could settle, the doctor spoke again, "However, if the blood clot not only fails to diminish but continues to press on the nerves, then Mr. Gu will still be in great danger. You, as family members, must pay close attention to the patient’s condition during your care, and report any anomalies to the doctor immediately."
"Okay, thank you, Doctor."
"Alternatively, you can also talk to the patient more; perhaps it could help him wake up sooner."
Fu Jingtong paused, "He can hear us talking?"
The doctor explained, "Some patients, despite being comatose, react to external stimuli and can hear others speak. However, some patients are completely unconscious. We can’t yet determine which case applies to Mr. Gu, but you can try."
Hearing this, a hint of disappointment flashed in Fu Jingtong’s eyes. She nodded, "Thank you, Doctor."
"Mr. Gu will be transferred to a regular ward soon. You should go and take care of the paperwork."
Gu Yang stepped out, "I’ll go. I’m the patient’s son."
Gu Yang followed the nurse to handle the procedures, while Fu Jingtong went to the hospital room with Gu Bowen. The ventilator had been removed from Gu Bowen’s body; his face had abrasions, and both his hands and feet were in casts.
Fu Jingtong sat on the side, gazing at him intently, her eyes full of undisguised tenderness. It had been over twenty years since she had properly looked at him. She reached out to touch the white hair by Gu Bowen’s ear, speaking softly, "Gu Bowen, you have white hair now, you’ve aged too."
Gu Bowen slept peacefully, unaware of whether he heard what Fu Jingtong said.
"I suppose it’s true, with Gu Yang being so grown up, how could we not age? Gu Bowen, you are the most stubborn man I’ve ever met. Knowing full well that I did not love you and wouldn’t return to your side, why did you wait for me? And to wait for over twenty years, aren’t you the world’s biggest fool?"
She gently grasped Gu Bowen’s hand, remembering those hands as dry and warm, but now they were cold as ice. She pressed her face to the palm of Gu Bowen’s hand, "I regret agreeing to marry you now. If you hadn’t married me, might you have met someone better than me? Someone who would devote their whole heart to you, bear your children, spend the rest of your life with you, staying by your side until old age, and give you a happy family, rather than wait for an impossible hope for half a lifetime? And in the end, lying in a hospital bed, unable to move. Gu Bowen, I’m sorry for wasting half of your life."
"I’m not sure if you can hear me now, but it seems only facing the you now do I have the courage to speak my heart. Gu Bowen, you must not know that the person I actually loved in my heart has always been you. Since I agreed to marry you, Shen Rang has been put aside in my heart. I’m sure you have many doubts in your heart, wondering why, if I loved you, I would leave you."
"Gu Bowen, I’ve always known that you never had anything to do with that woman; I orchestrated everything from the beginning to the end. I wanted to leave you, so I set up a woman to make you let me go. Gu Bowen, I’m truly sorry for making you carry this burden for so many years."
At this point, Fu Jingtong’s tears suddenly fell, probably recalling the past, her eyes filled with pain, yet there was also tenderness in the pain.
The warm tears dropped onto Gu Bowen’s palm. Fu Jingtong didn’t see Gu Bowen’s eyelids tremble slightly, but it was just a moment, then everything was serene again.
"Marrying you was the most beautiful decision I made in my life. I’m grateful for our marriage and having a child together. I so wish I could have spent my life by your side, but, Gu Bowen, I’ve been sullied, I’ve lost the right to stand beside you."
In the hospital room, Fu Jingtong quietly revealed secrets that had been buried in her heart for over twenty years to Gu Bowen. Sadly, Gu Bowen’s eyes were tightly shut, and he did not hear what Fu Jingtong said.
Gu Yang, having finished handling the procedures, saw through the glass of the hospital room Fu Jingtong holding Gu Bowen’s hand and speaking softly, he hesitated and then sat down on the bench in the hallway.
When Gu Kai came over with a change of clothes for Gu Yang, he noticed Gu Yang sitting silently on the bench and patted his shoulder, "The uncle will be okay. Don’t worry."
Gu Yang looked up at him without a word. He had come directly from the army, already exhausted from a day of training, and even more tired now, having stood outside Fu Jingtong’s hospital room all night, stubble sprouting on his weary face.
"You should go change and freshen up first." Gu Kai handed the bag to him, and Gu Yang took it, getting up to go to the bathroom to change his clothes.
When Gu Kai entered the hospital room, Fu Jingtong had already let go of Gu Bowen’s hand, and her face had returned to its calm demeanor. Upon seeing Gu Kai, she even took the initiative to greet him.
"Little aunt, I brought you some food. You should have something to eat first. I’ll watch over the uncle here."
Fu Jingtong shook her head, "I don’t have an appetite right now, leave it for now. Is everything okay at home?" She estimated that the Gu Family must have already received the news of Gu Bowen’s hospitalization.
"My father already knows, he’s handling some things at the company and will be here later. I haven’t told Grandpa Fu about uncle being hospitalized."
"That’s good. If there are things to handle at the company, go ahead; I can take care of the hospital."
"It’s okay, I’ve taken leave. Little aunt, you haven’t eaten since yesterday. Go have something now, you’ll need the strength to look after the uncle, won’t you? If you fall ill, the uncle will worry when he wakes up."
Fu Jingtong didn’t insist further, and even though she lacked an appetite, she still ate a bowl of porridge. Just after finishing her meal, Qinglan came over. She brought Jingtong a change of clothes. Since Jingtong hadn’t gone home last night, Old Sir Fu had inquired about her whereabouts, but Qinglan had fobbed him off with an excuse. She generally didn’t lie, so Old Sir Fu wholeheartedly believed what she said.
"Auntie, here are some clothes for you to change into." Seeing that Jingtong had eaten already, Qinglan put the food she brought on the table and handed the clothes to Jingtong, who accepted them with a word of thanks.
"Auntie, you haven’t slept all night, you should rest for a bit. Gu Kai and I are here."
Jingtong forced a smile, but failed to display one, "I don’t need you here, you’re pregnant right now. You should head back. Staying in the hospital for too long isn’t good for the child."
Gu Kai chimed in, "Yeah, little sister-in-law, you go back first, we’ve got this."
Qinglan didn’t leave immediately. Instead, she sat in the ward for a while until Jingtong urged her for the fifth time. Then she stood up, signaled Gu Kai with her eyes, and left. Gu Kai also stood up, "Little sister-in-law, I’ll walk you down."
Outside the ward, Qinglan looked at Gu Kai, "Gu Kai, think carefully, has uncle recently had any conflicts with anyone or had any issues? Whether in business or personal life."
Qinglan had thought about it all night and still felt that the possibility of revenge was greater, but Gu Bowen was easygoing and rarely made enemies, which made even Qinglan uncertain.
Upon hearing this, Gu Kai became serious. He thought hard for a good while before shaking his head, "Little sister-in-law, you know my uncle’s temperament. He doesn’t make enemies in his day-to-day life. The company has taken on a few big projects recently, but they were all secured through normal means, there’s no issue of offending anyone. So, right now, I can’t think of anything. Little sister-in-law, do you have any suspects in mind?"
Qinglan shook her head, "I don’t, not yet anyway. Let’s leave this matter aside for now. I’m going to leave. The hospital is in your hands."
"Alright, drive carefully."
After leaving the hospital, Qinglan went home. Hengyi hadn’t come back yet. She rewatched the video Hengyi had brought back several times. Except for the missing five minutes, nothing unusual could be discerned from the footage. It appeared to be a simple traffic accident. But because of those missing five minutes, Qinglan was certain that this was far from a mere accident.
Who was behind the scenes, and what was their motive? Was it targeted at Gu Bowen, or was Gu Bowen just collateral damage?
When Hengyi returned, Qinglan was still pondering this question. She was so engrossed that she didn’t even notice him approaching. Qinglan inwardly sighed. Ever since being with Hengyi, her vigilance had dropped significantly. If it had been an enemy, she might have died countless times without knowing.
"What has you so lost in thought?" Hengyi asked in a gentle voice.
Qinglan shared her suspicions with Hengyi, who reached out and caressed her face, "Leave this matter to me. Don’t overthink it. Have you eaten lunch?"
Only then did Qinglan realize she was so engrossed that she missed lunch. She touched her stomach, and Hengyi immediately understood, giving her a helpless look, "That’s not like you. This only happens once; it can’t happen again."
Qinglan laughed, "I know."
Hengyi stood up to cook for Qinglan. Since lunchtime had passed, he didn’t want to leave Qinglan hungry, so he made a simple meal using leftover chicken soup from the day before to make her a bowl of chicken noodle soup.
Perhaps because she was indeed hungry, Qinglan found her appetite quite agreeable and finished the whole bowl of noodles.
After satisfying her hunger, Qinglan, looking content, asked, "Has there been any progress with uncle’s situation?"
Fu Hengyi shook his head, "Not yet, I went to the station today, and the chief said no one entered the surveillance room that day, aside from the on-duty personnel. However, there was more than one person on duty, and none of them acted alone."
With that said, hadn’t this case become a dead-end?
Shen Qinglan didn’t believe in perfect crimes. The lack of discovery only suggested that they might be overlooking something, or perhaps from the start, their direction had been wrong.
Shen Qinglan calmed her mind and reviewed the events from beginning to end, but still, no clues emerged.
Fu Hengyi looked at her furrowed brow and reached out to smooth it, "Stop thinking about it for now. You didn’t sleep well last night, go upstairs and get some proper rest."
Shen Qinglan, unable to come up with any leads, decided to set the matter aside for the moment and followed Fu Hengyi’s advice, heading upstairs to rest. Fu Hengyi didn’t go anywhere and accompanied her.
****************
In the hospital, after sending Gu Yang and Gu Kai away, Fu Jingtong stayed by Gu Bowen’s side alone, holding his hand in silence.
Looking at the white hair by Gu Bowen’s ear and the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, for some reason, she recalled the first time they met. It was when she was in high school, and she had plans to hang out with Shen Rang on the weekend. Upon arrival, she discovered Shen Rang had brought another person, a very shy boy who didn’t talk much and blushed when she spoke to him. Fu Jingtong found it amusing and couldn’t resist teasing him.
After meeting more frequently, she learned that Gu Bowen was the second son of the Gu Family, a rich second generation with impeccable manners—you couldn’t see a hint of a bad-tempered rich boy in him.
In college, Fu Jingtong joined a military academy, and since there were no cell phones back then, the only way to communicate was through letters. Her exchanges with Shen Rang were always close, while Gu Bowen would only write her once a month, mostly sharing anecdotes about his college life. Perhaps that’s why, Fu Jingtong initially didn’t notice Gu Bowen’s feelings for her.
After her engagement with Shen Rang, there was a long period when Gu Bowen didn’t write to her. Fu Jingtong thought it might be because Gu Bowen had a new life or simply got busy and forgot—she didn’t overthink it. At the time, her focus was on her studies; she was determined to join the army, and Old Sir Fu had said that if her grades satisfied him, she could enlist. All her remaining time was devoted to Shen Rang.
To the Fu Jingtong back then, Gu Bowen was just a common friend—until Shen Rang called off the engagement.
Fu Jingtong never expected Shen Rang would break off their engagement for another woman. What surprised her even more was Gu Bowen went to fight with Shen Rang. Had Shen Rang not deliberately held back, Gu Bowen would have likely been the only one covered in bruises.
Fu Jingtong was smart. She hadn’t thought in that direction before, which was why she hadn’t noticed—but seeing Gu Bowen like that, how could she remain clueless? The only thing unclear was when exactly Gu Bowen had started to like her.
Thinking of this, Fu Jingtong looked at the person still deep in slumber on the bed and softly asked, "Gu Idiot, why don’t you wake up and tell me when you started to have feelings for me?" Her voice held a teasing note but was filled more with anticipation.
After waiting a few minutes and receiving no response from the bed, Fu Jingtong laughed at herself mockingly. She was indeed going crazy—the doctors had said that Gu Bowen wouldn’t wake up until the blood clot in his brain was resolved. It was clear that it wasn’t possible right now.
Fu Jingtong glanced at the time, stood up, and went to the restroom. When she returned, her hands held a steaming basin. She wrung out the towel and began to wipe down Gu Bowen’s body, having taken on the task herself these past two days.
After changing Gu Bowen’s clothes, Fu Jingtong arranged the blanket and sighed softly, "Gu Bowen, if you open your eyes now, I’ll forgive you, and I’ll be with you."
Just as Fu Jingtong thought she would receive no response once again, her hand was grasped, "Is what you just said true?"
Even though the voice was hoarse and weak, it unmistakably belonged to Gu Bowen. Fu Jingtong’s body stiffened abruptly, but she hesitated to turn around.
"Jingtong, is it true what you just said? That if I wake up now, you’ll forgive me and be with me?" Gu Bowen asked again, his feeble voice tinged with a slight tremble and nervousness.
Fu Jingtong slowly turned around to face Gu Bowen’s eyes, brimming with anticipation. Her eyes suddenly widened, the joy within them undisguised, but in an instant, that joy was replaced by indifference, "Now that you’re awake, I’ll go get the doctor for you."
Gu Bowen still held onto Fu Jingtong’s hand, not letting go, "Jingtong, answer me first, was what you just said true?"
Fu Jingtong turned her head away, refusing to look at him, "You heard wrong."
The light in Gu Bowen’s eyes extinguished instantly, and his hand dropped powerlessly. A pang of sourness struck Fu Jingtong’s heart, yet her face remained expressionless as she spoke, "I’ll go call the doctor for you. You should just lie down." Saying so, she attempted to leave.
"Fu Jingtong." Behind her, Gu Bowen called out but started coughing violently after just saying her name. Fu Jingtong turned around in alarm, quickly walking back to help him catch his breath, "Can’t what you have to say wait?"
Gu Bowen clung tightly to her wrist, his grip strong, "Fu Jingtong, even though I’ve been unconscious these past few days, I could still hear every word you said to me."
For the first time, Fu Jingtong’s unchanging expression faltered, panic flashing in her eyes. Rising to leave, Gu Bowen’s firm grip on her wrist caused him to almost fall off the bed due to her movement, prompting Fu Jingtong to instantly stop moving. She then helped Gu Bowen lie back onto the bed.
"Gu Bowen, let go of me first."
Gu Bowen did not let go, his gaze fixed on her, "Fu Jingtong, you said the person you always loved was me, is that the truth? If you really loved me, why did you leave me all those years ago over such a small matter? Didn’t we agree to be honest with each other as husband and wife? Why wouldn’t you trust me, not willing to tell me? How could you bear to leave me and Gu Yang all those years ago?"
Fu Jingtong’s face was impassive as she looked at Gu Bowen, "Since you’ve already heard what I said, don’t you know the reason?"
"Fu Jingtong, you didn’t believe I would face it with you, did you? That’s why, after something like that happened, you’d rather flee far away alone instead of telling me? You keep saying you love me, but what am I really in your heart? And what about Gu Yang?"
Faced with Gu Bowen’s relentless questioning, Fu Jingtong was at a loss for words. She hung her head, her expression one of anguish, "You just don’t understand how painful such a thing is for a woman. How could I tell you that your wife was violated? Gu Bowen, how could I possibly say that?"
Tears began to trickle from the corners of her eyes. Her crying threw Gu Bowen into a panic. He reached out, clumsily trying to wipe away Fu Jingtong’s tears but forgetting about his own injuries. As he moved, his plastered arm tugged at his wounds, causing Gu Bowen to wince in pain.
Fu Jingtong set aside her sadness and hurriedly pressed the call button on the bedside.
The doctor soon came and conducted a preliminary check on Gu Bowen, "We need to take Mr. Gu for a full-body examination now. Ms. Fu, please go with the nurse and take care of the payment."
Fu Jingtong nodded and followed the nurse out, while Gu Bowen wanted to hold her back, but, after some thought, ultimately chose not to speak.
After completing the payment, Fu Jingtong called Gu Yang to come and take her place. By the time an out-of-breath Gu Yang arrived at the hospital, unable to even exchange a word with her, Fu Jingtong had already left.
Gu Yang wanted to call after her, but Fu Jingtong didn’t even turn her head. Touching his nose, Gu Yang didn’t dwell on it, and quickly went upstairs to find his father.
After the examination was finished, Gu Bowen saw only Gu Yang waiting for him outside; Fu Jingtong was nowhere to be seen. Disappointment filled his eyes, and he lowered his gaze.
Gu Yang, pushing him, couldn’t help but complain, "Dad, you don’t have to look so displeased just because you just woke up and saw me. I am, after all, your biological son."
Gu Bowen didn’t respond to his teasing but instead asked, "Where’s your mom?"
"After my mom called me to the hospital, she left, probably to rest at home," said Qinglan. "You’ve been unconscious for several days, and my mom has been taking care of you the whole time. She wouldn’t even consider resting for a bit, afraid that I wouldn’t take care of you well enough. She had to do everything herself, while I could only stand by and watch. Dad, I think my mom still has feelings for you. Maybe you should consider, not going abroad and stay here with me and my mom. It’d be a good opportunity to get along with her, and who knows, she might have a change of heart."
Gu Bowen didn’t respond, Gu Yang had been talking for quite some time without getting even a word of response from him. With a pout, he boredly closed his mouth.
**************
As soon as Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi heard that Gu Bowen had awoken, they immediately rushed to the hospital. When they arrived, Gu Yang was talking to Gu Bowen, and Gu Kai was also there.
"Uncle, you’re awake," Shen Qinglan entered and saw that Gu Bowen was already awake and looked in good spirits, she said.
Gu Bowen smiled, "Yes, I’ve worried you all these days. How is Old Sir at home?"
"Grandpa still doesn’t know; we haven’t told him," Fu Hengyi explained, Old Sir Fu had been found to have some hypertension during a health check at the beginning of the year and needed proper rest. Therefore, Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi usually didn’t share such news with him.
"It’s better that Old Sir doesn’t know, so he won’t worry; I’m already fine now."
Shen Qinglan turned to Gu Yang, "What did the doctor say after the examination?"
Gu Yang started, "The doctor said the clot in my dad’s brain has moved, and currently isn’t pressing on any nerves, which is why he woke up. Given the unique location of the clot and considering my dad’s current health, surgery would be risky. Since the clot isn’t affecting normal life, we decided not to opt for surgery for now. The doctor also said that there’s no immediate need for surgery. Maybe the clot will dissolve on its own someday, and even if it doesn’t, we can still have the surgery later if necessary."
Hearing this, Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi also felt relieved.
After giving Gu Yang and Gu Kai a look, Gu Kai understood and took Gu Yang out of the room, leaving only Shen Qinglan, Fu Hengyi, and Gu Bowen.
Gu Bowen smiled, "Do you have something you want to ask me?"
Fu Hengyi nodded, "Uncle, what is your perspective on this car accident?"
Gu Bowen looked at Fu Hengyi and spoke slowly, "You suspect that this accident wasn’t just a coincidence?" If it had been an accident, Fu Hengyi wouldn’t be asking like this.
"Yes, to be frank with you, after your accident, we obtained the surveillance footage of the section of road where your accident occurred from the traffic police. However, we found that five minutes of the footage during the time of the accident had been edited out."
Shen Qinglan continued, "We were wondering if perhaps you had offended someone recently and they were waiting for an opportunity to seek revenge. Uncle, please think carefully about whether you’ve had any conflicts with someone lately."
Upon hearing this, Gu Bowen frowned in deep thought, and after a while, he slowly shook his head, "I really can’t remember. I’ve always been kind to others and seldom make enemies. In my many years in the business world, I’ve had many competitors, but those were all normal business rivalries, not personal vendettas."
His response was similar to what Gu Yang had told them, effectively leading to a dead end in their line of inquiry.
"Could it be you’re overthinking things? Maybe it was just a traffic accident," suggested Gu Bowen.
Drunk driving accidents are not uncommon in life; weren’t Yu Xiaoxuan’s parents in an accident because of drunk driving?
