Chapter 264. Fu Hengyi, I am pregnant
Chapter 264: 264. Fu Hengyi, I am pregnant
Gynecology was on the second floor, so they had taken the stairs upon arrival. At the staircase, Old Sir Fu watched Shen Qinglan descend the stairs and immediately said, "Qinglan girl, take it slow, these stairs are dangerous. Jingting, hold on to her."
Fu Jingting hurriedly let go of Old Sir Fu to assist Shen Qinglan, who was quite speechless as she looked at her grandfather. "Grandpa, I’m only half a month along, I’m not that fragile."
Hearing this, Old Sir Fu discontentedly said, "How can you not be fragile? The first three months of pregnancy are the most dangerous; you need to be very careful."
"Yes, Qinglan, listen to us," Fu Jingting added, and both of them treated her as if she were a delicate doll, which left Shen Qinglan feeling quite helpless.
She was carefully escorted to the first floor and just as carefully helped into the back seat of the car, where she finally let out a sigh of relief. Being pampered like this was really uncomfortable, especially when the pamperers were two elders.
The two elders themselves seemed to feel nothing amiss, all smiles throughout, their joy apparent in their eyes.
Along the way, Old Sir Fu kept saying, "Old Xia, drive slower, make it as smooth as possible, don’t jolt my precious great-grandson."
"Be slow around the turns, and let others go first at the traffic lights; we’re not in a hurry. Safety first."
Even Fu Jingting couldn’t stand it anymore. "Dad, rest for a while, have some water," she said, offering a bottle to Old Sir Fu, who refused, "I’m not thirsty, what water do I need?"
Shen Qinglan took the bottle, opened it, and said, "Grandpa, drink some water."
Old Sir Fu, smiling, accepted and took a big gulp, "Okay, grandpa will drink; actually, I am a bit thirsty."
Fu Jingting watched silently, the favoritism quite apparent. But she understood; after all, Old Sir Fu had been yearning for a great-grandson for many years, and now that it was finally happening, he naturally couldn’t contain his happiness.
When they got home, the driver, Old Xia, mentioned that this was the most exhausting drive he’d had in decades. Shen Qinglan gave him an apologetic look, to which Old Xia waved his hand, his eyes filled with the same joy as Old Sir Fu’s. The Fu family was expanding, and this was truly a cause for celebration.
"Come, come, Qinglan girl, take a seat. Don’t tire yourself," coaxed Old Sir Fu, gesturing for Shen Qinglan to sit on the sofa, then went looking for Aunt Zhao. "Xiao Zhao, is the meal you were preparing ready? Qinglan girl is hungry."
Aunt Zhao emerged from the kitchen carrying a large tray with several dishes, not a lot of each, but four or five varieties, "It’s ready now, you can eat."
"Qinglan, come eat," she invited.
Shen Qinglan stood and took a seat at the dining table. "Grandpa, won’t you eat something?" she asked, seeing Old Sir Fu watching her.
Old Sir Fu shook his head, his face blossoming into a chrysanthemum smile, "Grandpa’s not hungry, you eat."
As Shen Qinglan had felt nauseous that morning, both Fu Jingting and Old Sir Fu hadn’t really eaten anything either; their stomachs were growling, but in their excitement, they’d forgotten they were even hungry.
Shen Qinglan finished her brunch under the attentive gaze of Old Sir Fu. Aunt Zhao came to clear the dishes and placed a small bowl of soup in front of Shen Qinglan, "Qinglan, have this soup later. This is a secret recipe from Aunt Zhao’s hometown. Pregnant women who drink this won’t suffer from morning sickness, and it helps with appetite too. Hengyi’s mom and Jingting have both had it."
Hearing this, Fu Jingting chimed in, "Aunt Zhao’s remedy really works well, Qinglan, try it. Pregnancy is hard enough, and morning sickness makes it worse."
Shen Qinglan looked down at the soup in front of her; it appeared light and smelled sweet, nothing unusual. She tasted it, and it was indeed sweet.
Considering she had just eaten, Aunt Zhao had prepared only a small quantity of soup, and Shen Qinglan finished it in just three to four sips.
"Qinglan, you didn’t sleep well last night. Go up and take a nap now, and if you don’t feel like having lunch, skip it. You can eat when you wake up," Old Sir Fu said, noticing the tiredness in Shen Qinglan’s eyes.
"Almost didn’t sleep at all last night, and then was busy all morning today," Shen Qinglan was really a bit tired, but she had just finished eating, and even if she went to bed now, she wouldn’t be able to fall asleep. "Grandpa, I can’t talk right now, let me digest first."
"Yes, yes, yes, look at Grandpa’s memory. How about you let your aunt accompany you for a walk in the yard, then you can sleep?"
Shen Qinglan had intended to say there was no need to trouble her, but seeing Fu Jingtong had already stood up, she stood up as well.
"Qinglan, your grandpa is just too excited today, so he’s a bit over the top. Don’t be scared by him," Fu Jingtong said gently, her eyes filled with genuine joy.
Fu Hengyi’s parents had died when he was very young, and Fu Jingtong had raised him as her own son, so seeing he was about to become a father, how could she not be happy?
Shen Qinglan smiled, "Yes, I know, Grandpa is just happy." And it wasn’t just Old Sir Fu; Shen Qinglan herself was also overjoyed.
She had been very nervous during the check-up because Doctor Zhong had told her previously that her body was cold and not easily conducive for conception. Although she had been taking Chinese medicine for a few months, with continuous events occurring and even sustaining injuries, she worried.
She was concerned that it was just a simple gastrointestinal issue, which would not only disappoint Old Sir Fu but herself as well.
When the doctor confidently told her she was really pregnant, her heart was still tense. She feared the medicine she had used after the injury and the injury itself might affect the baby negatively. Fortunately, the doctor said that even if there were influences, they should be minor as several months had already passed.
This child was the one Shen Qinglan had long hoped for, the child of her and Fu Hengyi. Just thinking about soon having a tangible symbol of their love, Shen Qinglan felt her happiness about to overflow.
She wanted to call Fu Hengyi right away but suppressed the urge. She wanted to tell him face-to-face and share her joy with him, thinking he would likely be as happy as she was.
"Aunt, when you were pregnant before, did you suffer a lot?" Shen Qinglan asked, previously uncurious about these things, but now knowing there was someone in her belly, she suddenly wanted to learn more.
Fu Jingtong’s face held a momentary look of nostalgia as she recalled her pregnancy days, Gu Bowen’s meticulous care of her. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he treated her like a fragile treasure.
"Aunt?" Shen Qinglan called out.
Fu Jingtong returned from her reverie with a slight smile, "My pregnancy was rather tough. Gu Yang, from when he was in my belly, was not a calm one. I had morning sickness in the early stages, really vomiting everything I ate, even a sip of water. Later, Aunt Zhao made me the secret recipe you drank today which helped a bit.
After the morning sickness phase, I started craving food intensely—wanting to eat anything I saw. If I couldn’t get it, I’d feel agonizingly desirous, sometimes unable to sleep at night. Gu Yang’s father often went out in the middle of the night to buy me food, even though I couldn’t eat much of it when he brought it back.
By the fourth or fifth month, when the baby started moving, Gu Yang was too naughty, often stretching inside, which scared Gu Yang’s father, fearing he might kick through my belly."
As Fu Jingtong spoke about these experiences, her eyes sparkled and her tone was especially tender. Shen Qinglan listened quietly, even able to imagine the scene, surely back then, Fu Jingtong and Gu Bowen were in love. Otherwise, how could Fu Jingtong remember those details so vividly?
"I hope this baby will be a bit quieter," Shen Qinglan said gently, her hand resting on her belly.
Fu Jingtong smiled, "Your pregnancy is still in the early stages, it’s not visible yet. Wait until it’s a bit later; you’ll find out. A quieter baby in the belly means you can suffer a bit less. But there’s an old saying that if a child is calm in the womb, they’ll be particularly mischievous after birth, though it’s not always true. Look at Gu Yang, he was disobedient in the womb and is even more so now."
Shen Qinglan smiled; another reason she had spent a long time in the doctor’s office today was to learn about the precautions during pregnancy.
Fu Jingtong accompanied Shen Qinglan walking several rounds in the yard, then took her back inside. Shen Qinglan went straight upstairs to sleep after entering the house.
Perhaps knowing that there was a child in her belly made Shen Qinglan’s mood very good; she fell asleep shortly after closing her eyes.
"Lanlan, where is Lanlan?" Just shortly after Shen Qinglan had fallen asleep, Old Sir Shen’s voice rang out in the Fu Mansion, followed by an excited Chu Yunrong.
"Lanlan?" Without seeing anyone in the living room, Old Sir Shen decided to go upstairs.
Old Sir Fu rushed downstairs and stopped him at the staircase.
"Old Man Fu, get out of the way. I’m going to see my granddaughter," Old Sir Shen glared.
"You might want to be a bit louder, Qinglan girl is sleeping upstairs," Old Sir Fu hollered, but his voice was very low.
Old Sir Shen immediately lowered his voice, looking a bit anxious, "Why is she sleeping during the day? Is she not feeling well?"
"Uncle Shen, Qinglan is fine. Pregnant women tend to sleep more, it’s normal," Fu Jingtong also came downstairs and responded to Old Sir Shen’s question.
Hearing this, Old Sir Shen relaxed, glanced upstairs, then turned and went down the stairs, while Yun Rong went directly up and Old Sir Fu did not stop her.
Yun Rong gently opened the door; on a normal day, even this small noise would be enough to wake Shen Qinglan, but today she was really tired, plus being at the Fu Mansion, she was relaxed, and the noise didn’t wake her at all.
She sat by the bed. The room didn’t have the air conditioning on and there was a slight sweat on Shen Qinglan’s forehead. Yun Rong looked and then stepped out to ask Aunt Zhao for a fan, and gently fanned Shen Qinglan. Her gaze was very tender and loving, with a hidden, unanswerable regret deep in her eyes.
The scene of Shen Qinglan’s birth was still fresh in her mind as if it was yesterday, yet in the blink of an eye, the child who used to be coy in her arms was going to be a mother herself. Yun Rong felt both happy and sad.
Downstairs, Old Sir Shen looked at Old Sir Fu, "Old Man Fu, is Lanlan really pregnant? You aren’t deceiving me?"
Old Sir Fu rolled his eyes, "Would I lie to you about something like this?"
Old Sir Shen naturally knew he would not, he had just said that offhand.
"Ha ha ha, I’m going to be a great-grandfather. Hahaha!" Old Sir Shen laughed heartily.
Hearing this, Old Sir Fu scoffed, "Hey, Old Man Shen, I’m the great-grandfather here, and you’re at most a great-grandfather-in-law."
Old Sir Shen’s face stiffened, and he huffed, "What does that matter? The one in Lanlan’s belly is also our Shen family’s child, a great-grandfather-in-law is still a grandfather."
Fu Jingtong watched the two old men argue ceaselessly, amused, she spoke up, "Uncle Shen, Dad, stop arguing. If you have time, you might as well think about what to name the child."
This topic indeed caught more attention. As soon as Fu Jingtong finished speaking, both old men became attentive.
"Exactly, exactly, I want to give my great-grandson a nice and meaningful name," Old Sir Fu patted his thigh.
Old Sir Shen glared, "What do you mean, your great-grandson? What if Lanlan has a girl? You’re not planning to take her?"
"You old coot, am I that kind of person? Whether Qinglan girl has a boy or a girl, they are all my darlings. I love them, just don’t try to stir trouble between me and my great-grandson or granddaughter."
"That’s more like it. Let me tell you, if you dare look down upon them, I’ll have Lanlan come home and the child will take our Shen family name, and won’t call you great-grandpa," Old Sir Shen squinted and joked, though there was a seriousness behind his teasing.
"You old man, after all these years of friendship, you don’t trust me at all?" Old Sir Fu glared, poised as if he would sever ties if he dared.
"Why are you taking a joke so seriously? By the way, does Hengyi know about this?" Old Sir Fu shook his head, "He doesn’t know, Qinglan told me not to tell him, said she wants to inform him herself."
Old Sir Shen nodded, agreeing that it was best for Shen Qinglan to break the news herself.
"Now, Lanlan is pregnant. We need to start preparing everything at home. If I had known earlier, I wouldn’t have arranged such a traditional Chinese wedding. The procedures are so complicated, and one wedding is exhausting enough to kill a person. It was alright in the past, but now that Lanlan is pregnant, could her body handle such an exhausting wedding?" Old Sir Shen grumbled.
Having heard this, Old Sir Fu also began to worry. The two elderly men gathered together, discussing how they could simplify the wedding procedures to make it easier for Shen Qinglan.
When Shen Qinglan woke up, Chu Yunrong was still fanning her. Seeing her awake, Chu Yunrong seemed a bit flustered, "Did Mom wake you up?"
Shen Qinglan glanced at the fan in Chu Yunrong’s hand and shook her head, "No, I just had enough sleep. Mom, when did you come?"
Chu Yunrong smiled, "Not long ago. I saw you were sleeping, so I didn’t disturb you. Are you hungry now that you’re awake? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
"No, Mom, I just found out I’m pregnant. It’s still early. Don’t worry."
How could Chu Yunrong not worry? Although she had two children herself and hadn’t felt much then, watching her daughter go through it was completely different.
"If there’s anything you want to eat, just tell Mom, and I’ll make it for you." After finishing, Chu Yunrong realized her cooking skills were not great, and a hint of embarrassment appeared on her face as she spoke, "I’ll ask Sister-in-law Song to make it for you."
Shen Qinglan, seemingly not noticing her discomfort, nodded, "Alright, Mom. Has Grandpa also come?"
Chu Yunrong nodded, "Yes, he wanted to check on you too, but you were sleeping. He’s downstairs talking with Uncle Fu. Are you coming down now?"
"Yeah, if I sleep too much now, I won’t be able to sleep tonight," Shen Qinglan said lightly.
"Then Mom will go downstairs first."
After leaving the room, Chu Yunrong gently rubbed her wrist. She had been shaking the fan for Shen Qinglan for over two hours, and her wrist was quite sore, though she had tried not to let Shen Qinglan notice while inside.
"Lanlan woke up?" Old Sir Shen asked as soon as he saw Chu Yunrong come down.
Chu Yunrong nodded, "Yes, she’s coming down soon."
Hearing this, Old Sir Fu shouted towards the kitchen, "Xiao Zhao, bring out the soup you made for Qinglan. She slept through lunch and didn’t eat."
As Shen Qinglan descended the stairs, Old Sir Fu watched anxiously. Once she was down, he turned to Fu Jingtong and said, "Go to the furniture market tomorrow. We need to lay carpets at home, especially on the stairs. The wooden boards are too slippery. What if she accidentally falls?"
Shen Qinglan was speechless, "Grandpa, I’m not made of mud." It was still August, and there was still time before the temperature dropped. Wasn’t laying carpets at home right now a bit excessive?
"The floor is too slippery, and you are carrying a child now. We can’t be too careful," Old Sir Fu said earnestly, his heart heavy. This was his long-awaited great-grandchild that he must protect.
Shen Qinglan looked towards her grandfather, hoping Old Sir Shen would speak on her behalf, but to her surprise, Old Sir Shen nodded in agreement, "Old Fu is right, Lanlan. You can’t be too careful. It’s always good to be cautious. You shouldn’t go back recently; just stay in the mansion where we can take care of you."
"I think, from now on, Qinglan should stay at home. In the future, Hengyi might return to the military. Before, it might have been alright, but now that you are pregnant, you need to be careful about your diet and lifestyle."
Shen Qinglan didn’t oppose this suggestion. She knew her cooking skills; they were barely passable before. Now, she wouldn’t dare risk it; she wanted a healthy child, "Okay."
Seeing Shen Qinglan agree, the two old men were pleased.
Shen Qinglan’s pregnancy was a big deal for both the Shen and Fu families. That evening, both families gathered together for a meal. Shen Qinglan was now treated like a national treasure.
Seeing everyone so cautious, Shen Qinglan felt rather helpless.
"Are you overwhelmed by everyone’s concern?" Wen Xiyao asked with a smile as she looked at Shen Qinglan.
Shen Qinglan nodded, "They are too anxious, making me start to feel nervous now."
"What does it feel like to be a mom for the first time?" Wen Xiyao curiously inquired, looking at Shen Qinglan’s stomach.
Shen Qinglan shook her head, "I don’t feel much yet; the month is probably too early."
"That’s true, it’s probably not even as big as a rice grain now, how could you feel anything. But your Fu Hengyi probably doesn’t know about your pregnancy, does he?"
"Yeah, I haven’t told him yet."
Wen Xiyao laughed with a bit of schadenfreude, "Isn’t your Fu Hengyi going to be the last to know?"
Shen Qinglan thought about it and said seriously, "My dad doesn’t know yet." This means, apart from Shen Qian and Fu Hengyi, everyone from the Shen Family and Fu Family knew.
The Shen Family and Fu Family had no plans to disclose Shen Qinglan’s pregnancy news publicly yet. The early stage of the pregnancy was one reason, and another was that Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi’s wedding was about to take place, making now not a good opportunity to announce the pregnancy.
In the evening, the Shen Family had already gone back, and after taking a bath, Shen Qinglan lay in bed flipping through a book called "A Hundred Things an Expecting Mother Should Know," which Wen Xiyao had brought her that afternoon.
As she was reading, Fu Hengyi’s call came in. Shen Qinglan’s lips curved into a light smile, "Fu Hengyi."
Although she just called out his name, Fu Hengyi could hear the joy in her voice, and chuckled softly, "Feeling good?"
"Yes."
"Did something delightful happen?" Fu Hengyi asked.
Shen Qinglan smiled, resisting the urge to tell him about the pregnancy. She responded, "Yes, because you are coming back soon and we are getting married soon."
"Hehe, you really want to marry me that much, huh?"
"Yes, I want to marry you, right now, immediately," Shen Qinglan joked.
Although it was a joke, at that moment, Fu Hengyi’s heart couldn’t help but flutter. He really wanted to hold Shen Qinglan in his arms, to cherish her tenderly, making the desire to return home all the more urgent.
**
With less than five days left until the wedding, both the Shen Family and Fu Family had begun to get busy. The most idle person was probably Shen Qinglan, whose daily tasks were just to eat, sleep, and rest.
Feeling guilty watching them all busied, Shen Qinglan wanted to help, but everyone dismissed her and sent her to rest, even using the same excuse: "We have enough hands now; we don’t need you, a pregnant woman around. Just go and have fun."
Thus, Shen Qinglan leisurely sat under the grape arbor in the Shen Family Mansion, occasionally plucking a bunch of grapes to eat, or wandering in the Fu Mansion’s courtyard, trying a pomegranate.
Shen Qinglan realized something—since finding out about her pregnancy, she had become more craving, wanting to taste anything she saw.
A tall and straight figure appeared in front of her, Shen Qinglan looked up and saw a familiar face. Her eyes brightened, and she stood up, "Fu Hengyi, you’re back."
Fu Hengyi hugged her, his voice gentle, "Yes, I’ve returned. I wanted to surprise you, so I came back early. Are you happy?"
Shen Qinglan nodded, smiling mysteriously, "I have a surprise for you too." Fu Hengyi raised an eyebrow, looking at his delicate wife in his arms, "Oh? What surprise?"
"Fu Hengyi, I’m pregnant."
After she spoke, the air fell into an eerie silence. Seeing that Fu Hengyi had no reaction, Shen Qinglan couldn’t help but look up at him, only to see him also staring at her, his eyes deep.
A hint of unease suddenly rose in Shen Qinglan’s heart. Could it be that Fu Hengyi didn’t like the child, so he wasn’t happy to hear the news of her pregnancy? With that thought, a touch of sadness flickered in the depths of Shen Qinglan’s eyes.
"Qinglan, what did you just say? Say it again." Fu Hengyi held her shoulders, his voice trembling slightly. Shen Qinglan looked at him, slowly smiled, and said word by word, "Fu Hengyi, I’m pregnant. You’re going to be upgraded to a daddy."
Fu Hengyi finally confirmed he had not misheard, "Really? I’m going to be a father?"
Shen Qinglan nodded affirmatively, "Yes, you’re going to be a daddy, and I’m going to be a mommy."
Fu Hengyi’s expression was somewhat dazed, as if he hadn’t yet recovered from the immense shock. He stared blankly at Shen Qinglan for a long time without speaking. Shen Qinglan felt both amused and joyful. She waved her hand in front of Fu Hengyi’s eyes, "Fu Hengyi?"
Fu Hengyi snapped back to reality and suddenly picked up Shen Qinglan, "Qinglan, I’m going to be a daddy, and you’re going to be a mommy. We’re going to have our own child." His voice was excited, and anyone could tell he was thrilled from his tone.
Shen Qinglan’s face was full of smiles, she patted his shoulder, "Put me down, my head is getting dizzy from all your shaking."
Hearing this, Fu Hengyi quickly set Shen Qinglan down, looking at her anxiously, "Does your head still feel dizzy?"
Shen Qinglan shook her head with a laugh, "Fu Hengyi, don’t be nervous." Seeing Fu Hengyi looking as if he was facing a great enemy, Shen Qinglan tiptoed and kissed him on the lips.
Fu Hengyi held her, but didn’t dare to hug too tightly, "Qinglan, thank you." Thank you for giving me a child, for giving me a complete family, for making my life whole.
Shen Qinglan leaned on Fu Hengyi’s shoulder, hugging him back, "Fu Hengyi, I’m very happy."
Shen Junyu had just heard some noise outside and came out to see this scene, smiled tenderly, and seemed to think of something, with a hint of schadenfreude in his eyes.
"Alright, you two, I know you love each other, but you don’t have to be so clingy all the time." Shen Junyu spoke with a cool tone.
Fu Hengyi glanced at him lightly, then focused on his wife, "How many months? Are you feeling okay?"
Shen Qinglan spoke, "Just half a month, I don’t feel any discomfort, can eat and sleep well."
Half a month? That was from the last time he had returned to take wedding photos, the morning he left, Fu Hengyi hadn’t taken any precautions. There had been other times, but she hadn’t gotten pregnant, who would have known that this time she would hit the jackpot.
"If you feel any discomfort, you must tell me. Don’t bear it alone, understand?" Fu Hengyi reminded with concern.
Shen Qinglan smiled and nodded, "I know, I know, I won’t push myself."
Shen Junyu seeing how anxious Fu Hengyi was felt very satisfied. The more anxious Fu Hengyi was, the more it showed he cared about his little sister, and that made him happy.
"Fu Hengyi, let’s go home," Shen Qinglan said, glancing at Shen Junyu, "Brother, please tell grandpa, I’m going back first."
Shen Junyu waved his hand, "Let’s go, let’s go." Indeed, once a daughter is married off, even returning to her husband’s family becomes "going back." Shen Junyu expressed his heartfelt sadness.
Fu Hengyi walked hand in hand with Shen Qinglan on their way home, his eyes brimming with joy. Though he did not speak, his happiness was evident in his eyes and expression. Despite previously hoping to delay having children, he was truly thrilled now that it was happening. After all, this was his first child, a child he would share with Shen Qinglan.
"Fu Hengyi, Doctor Zhong said that it’s best if we do not try for a baby within six months. I’ve taken so many medications before; could it affect the baby?" As they walked, Shen Qinglan suddenly asked with concern.
Fu Hengyi paused slightly, then comforted her, "We’ll go ask Doctor Zhong tomorrow. Don’t worry, he only said it’s best, not that we can’t at all. Didn’t the doctor say everything was normal?"
Shen Qinglan thought for a moment and nodded, "Hmm."
When they returned to the Fu mansion, Old Sir Fu saw his grandson and only said "You’re back," before focusing his attention on Shen Qinglan with a smile, "Qinglan girl, Xiao Zhao just made some soup for you. Would you like to have it now or later?"
Shen Qinglan stiffened a bit, looking at Old Sir Fu, "Grandpa, maybe later."
"Alright, we’ll have it later then. If you’re tired, go upstairs and get some sleep."
Shen Qinglan nodded and hurriedly walked off with Fu Hengyi. Fu Hengyi looked at her somewhat perplexedly, "What’s wrong?"
Shen Qinglan sighed softly, "Ever since finding out I was pregnant, the kitchen has never stopped working. There is always some soup simmering on the stove, all prepared for me." Shen Qinglan admitted she was now somewhat fearful of soup.
Fu Hengyi chuckled, "If you don’t like drinking it, just tell Grandpa directly. There’s no need to force yourself."
"They mean well," Shen Qinglan said.
"No worries. Later, I’ll have Aunt Zhao bring the soup to our room and I’ll help you drink it," Fu Hengyi suggested.
Shen Qinglan’s eyes brightened; it sounded like a good idea.
The next day, Fu Hengyi took Shen Qinglan to see Doctor Zhong. After a careful examination and pulse check, the doctor spoke gently, "There’s no major issue. Just maintain a balanced and nutritious diet. However, your body isn’t in the ideal state for conceiving, so you should avoid cold items."
He then glanced at Fu Hengyi, "You must abstain from intimate relations for three months, understood?"
Shen Qinglan’s face turned slightly red, and she looked down, avoiding everyone’s gaze. Fu Hengyi, however, was very calm, not embarrassed at all, "Alright, Doctor Zhong. Besides this, is there anything else we need to be careful about?"
As Doctor Zhong spoke, Fu Hengyi listened intently. "Hold on." He took out a pen and paper from his pocket. "Alright, go on, Doctor."
Shen Qinglan looked slightly stunned, unsure when he had prepared these items. Doctor Zhong, however, understood the feelings of an expectant father and tried to provide detailed explanations.
After leaving Doctor Zhong’s office, Fu Hengyi drove Shen Qinglan back home.
Since becoming pregnant, Shen Qinglan had developed a greater appetite and had become much sleepier. She had fallen asleep in the car just a moment ago and continued to sleep even when they arrived home. Fu Hengyi didn’t intend to wake her up and carried her inside.
"Is she asleep?" asked Old Sir Fu softly when they arrived.
Fu Hengyi nodded and carried Shen Qinglan to their bed. Perhaps overly familiar with Fu Hengyi’s presence, Shen Qinglan did not wake up.
Just after Fu Hengyi had covered Shen Qinglan with the blanket, her phone lying on the bedside table lit up. Fu Hengyi picked it up and saw an international number with no saved contact. Hesitating for a moment, he pressed the answer button.
"Xiaoqi, what have you decided? Are you coming back to me, or will you continue to stay by that man’s side, then watch as your companions die one by one?" As soon as the call connected, a hoarse and unpleasant voice came from the other end, and Fu Hengyi’s expression abruptly changed.
He spoke in a deep voice, "Allen."
Allen, on the other end of the line, hadn’t expected Fu Hengyi to answer the call. He was momentarily disoriented, and when he recovered, his tone cooled, "Where is Shen Qinglan?"
"She’s sleeping. Whatever you have to say, you can tell me." Fu Hengyi’s voice was very calm, as if he hadn’t heard Allen’s earlier threat.
Allen chuckled lightly, "Fu Hengyi, don’t be so smug. Shen Qinglan will come back to me sooner or later."
Fu Hengyi, hearing this, wasn’t enraged, but his eyes were ice cold, "We shall see." Then he hung up the phone.
He sat down beside the bed, quietly watching Shen Qinglan. His gaze was gentle, but deep in his eyes there was a flicker of distress. He reached out and brushed her hair from her face.
This foolish woman, bearing so much in her heart alone. Allen’s threats certainly weren’t the first, but she had never mentioned them to him.
After a moment, Fu Hengyi stood up, took Shen Qinglan’s phone, and left the bedroom. He went to the study and found Andre’s number in her phone.
When Andre saw Shen Qinglan’s number, he answered immediately, "Hey, An."
"This is Fu Hengyi," said Fu Hengyi in a deep voice.
Andre looked at the phone and confirmed it was indeed Shen Qinglan’s number.
"Oh, what’s up?"
"Allen just called Qinglan, but I answered it. Have you guys been having any trouble recently?"
Andre immediately became serious, "What did Allen say?"
Fu Hengyi repeated Allen’s words. Andre fell silent, then spoke, "We’ll take care of ourselves. Just make sure An is safe."
"Right. You are all Qinglan’s friends. If anything happens to you, she would never forgive herself."
Andre nodded, "I understand. Allen might try to cause trouble at the wedding. We will be there to keep an eye out. As for your end..."
"I’ll also take precautions," Fu Hengyi interjected. "Oh, and I have some good news to tell you—Qinglan is pregnant."
After sharing the news, Fu Hengyi hung up the phone. It took Andre a moment to process this information. Staring at his phone in disbelief, Cissily immediately grew anxious, thinking something was wrong, "Andre, what’s wrong? Is something wrong with An?"
"An’s pregnant," Andre said, then drifted into the bathroom, leaving Cissily with a vision of confusion.
Cissily, after realizing the situation, looked sympathetically at Eden, who sat silently to the side. Now, Eden’s chances were even slimmer. Sigh...
Eden, however, didn’t exhibit any particular emotion, apart from the faint sadness in his eyes.
Fu Hengyi returned to the room, gazing at the sleeping Shen Qinglan. His eyes were tender; I will protect you and our child, no matter what. I won’t let anyone harm you or take you away from me.
