Chapter 247: 247. Hypnosis (Second Update)

Zhao Jiaqing learned of this method from Yan Shengyu’s lips, remained silent for a long time, but eventually nodded in agreement. If this was the only way to heal Ya Xi, even if her daughter would forget her family from then on, it didn’t matter. She would let Ya Xi reacquaint herself with the world.

But Doug did not immediately perform psychological hypnosis on Ya Xi. He said that now was not the best mental state for Ya Xi, and performing hypnosis now would not yield the best results. They needed to wait for a while.

Yan Anbang learned that Ya Xi had safely returned on the third day after she arrived back in Beijing. He hurried over from Nancheng, only to be met by the sight of Ya Xi going insane at the sight of him.

When he saw Ya Xi like that, Yan Anbang almost strangled Zhao Jiaqing to death. Had it not been for Yan Shengyu’s timely return, Zhao Jiaqing might have truly died at his hands.

"Zhao Jiaqing, my two daughters have been destroyed by your hands, you vile woman, get out of here," Yan Anbang pointed towards the door of the hospital room and roared.

"This has nothing to do with my mom, Dad, can you please be reasonable?" Yan Shengyu spoke up.

Yan Anbang glared at him fiercely, "You have no right to speak here!"

"This is a hospital. If you want to argue, take it outside," a nurse walked in to change the medicine and said coldly after seeing the chaotic state of the room.

Yan Anbang immediately fell silent, and after the nurse fed Ya Xi her medicine, Ya Xi soon fell into a peaceful sleep again.

"Anbang, how is Ya Xi?" Qin Yan waited downstairs at the hospital, and as soon as she saw Yan Anbang come out, she asked anxiously.

Yan Anbang looked exhausted, "Ya Xi is fine, you should go back."

Qin Yan’s face was filled with worry, "But you seem to be in a bad mood, did something happen to Ya Xi?"

"Ya Xi is fine, she just got a bit scared. You should go back now, it’s getting late, and your husband will start to worry."

Qin Yan hesitated for a moment, then nodded, "Alright then, I’ll leave. If anything happens to Ya Xi, call me. I know a few good doctors."

"Okay," Yan Anbang nodded, "Drive carefully."

Qin Yan smiled gently and before leaving, she didn’t forget to remind him, "You haven’t had a good rest for many days. Now that Ya Xi is back, you should go home and get some sleep."

After Qin Yan left, Yan Anbang returned to the hospital room only to find that Zhao Jiaqing was not there; only Yan Shengyu was present. Yan Anbang did not ask where Zhao Jiaqing had gone, but sat down and looked at Ya Xi with eyes full of heartache.

He held Ya Xi’s hand in the palm of his, and in a trance, he remembered how close his daughter had been to him in the past. But since his divorce from Zhao Jiaqing, Ya Xi had never once called him "Daddy" again, and she hadn’t even returned to their Nancheng home once.

He knew that in Ya Xi’s heart, she harbored resentment towards him, resenting his divorce from Zhao Jiaqing and feeling disappointed in him, but Ya Xi was still his beloved daughter.

"Did the doctor say how to treat her?" Yan Anbang asked.

Yan Shengyu repeated what the doctor had said.

"If that’s the case, then let her forget. It’s better for her to live happily than to struggle through life in this state. Once she’s recovered, I will send her abroad, and if possible, she should try not to come back," Yan Anbang said.

Yan Shengyu nodded; this might indeed be the best solution.

Ya Xi’s condition had been quite unstable during this time, sometimes acting wildly or hiding under the bed, crying out things like "big sister, save me."

It was only half a month later that Ya Xi’s condition stabilized. After Doug conducted the final check, he announced that the psychological hypnosis was scheduled for three days later.

"Go in and see her again," Eden said softly as Shen Qinglan stood outside the hospital room, reluctant to enter.

Shen Qinglan shook her head. "It’s okay, just one look at her from here is enough. After the hypnosis, she can start a new life." Fu Hengyi had returned from the military, and due to the operation, he was temporarily suspended and stuck at home writing self-criticisms. He held Shen Qinglan’s hand as if to give her strength.

Inside the room, Ya Xi was hugging her knees and resting her head on them, staring blankly out of the window, while Zhao Jiaqing sat beside her for company. Yan Shengyu and Yan Anbang were nowhere to be seen; since Ya Xi had developed a strong aversion to men other than Doug, to increase the success rate of the hypnosis, they waited outside, not even approaching the ward.

When time was almost up, Zhao Jiaqing came out and glanced at Shen Qinglan with a cold expression, "You go in and see her. When the treatment is over, I will take her abroad, and she probably won’t come back."

Shen Qinglan was taken aback. Although Zhao Jiaqing’s tone was icy, a trace of gratitude surfaced in Shen Qinglan’s eyes. She whispered a "Thank you" and walked in.

Sitting down beside Ya Xi, Shen Qinglan reached out and touched her head. Ya Xi glanced at her, showed no reaction, and turned away again.

After some time of treatment, Ya Xi’s aversion to women was not as apparent as before; probably because Zhao Jiaqing and Shen Qinglan had been around her more often, she didn’t react negatively to their occasional closeness. Doug said this was a good sign.

"How was your day, Ya Xi?" asked Shen Qinglan tenderly, her eyes and eyebrows filled with gentleness.

Ya Xi kept looking out the window, silent. Following her gaze, Shen Qinglan realized that Ya Xi was watching a bird on the branch outside, preening its feathers.

Shen Qinglan watched with her for a while, then suddenly remembered the first time she met Ya Xi on the train to Hang City last year. The spoiled young girl had offered money to switch seats with her, but Shen Qinglan refused. Ya Xi kept nagging the whole journey and even followed her after getting off.

The second time they met was in an alley in Hang City; a group of thugs surrounded Ya Xi, and Shen Qinglan came to her aid, earning a look of adoration from the young girl.

The third time they met, Ya Xi came to school looking for her brother and ran into Shen Qinglan by chance. From then on, she often clung to Shen Qinglan, calling her "big sister" this and "big sister" that, chattering around her like a little sparrow.

Memories flooded back; it had been less than a year since she knew Ya Xi, but the memories were so numerous.

Shen Qinglan leaned in and gently hugged Ya Xi. Feeling unsettle, Ya Xi tried to struggle, but Shen Qinglan softly patted her back as if to soothe a child. Ya Xi gradually calmed down and allowed Shen Qinglan to hold her.

"Ya Xi, you must take care of yourself after you go abroad. It’s best if you learn some self-defense; then you won’t be afraid of bad people anymore," Shen Qinglan whispered into Ya Xi’s ear. "Don’t go out alone at night, don’t always eat junk food, and don’t run away from home when you’re upset; it worries the family, understand? Listen to Mommy..."

Shen Qinglan prattled on. She’d never been so long-winded before, knowing full well that Ya Xi would forget all this once the treatment was over, but she still wanted to say these things to her.

"Ya Xi, I’m sorry. Big sister couldn’t protect you, letting you go through so much at such a young age. If you ever meet me again, don’t recognize me, don’t even bother with me, okay? It’s better if you hate me; just turn and walk away when you see me."

"Ya Xi, I will sincerely wish in my heart that you have a life filled with joy and free of sorrow."

Tears welled up in Shen Qinglan’s eyes, a warm liquid trickling from the corner and dripping onto Ya Xi’s shoulder. Ya Xi touched it, seemingly puzzled as to why her shoulder was wet.

Shen Qinglan let go, stroked her hair, and said, "Our Ya Xi is the happiest princess in the world; you will always be this happy, and all your nightmares will pass. The future will be full of happiness and light."

Ya Xi looked at her, then unexpectedly reached out, touched Shen Qinglan’s eyes, and her fingertips came away with a glistening teardrop. She bowed her head to her fingertip, seemingly confused about what was on her hand, furrowed her brow, her expression tangled.

Doug entered, "An, it’s about time."

Shen Qinglan nodded, stood up, and walked out. Before leaving, she took one last look at Ya Xi, who looked up at her and said, "Tears... don’t cry."

Shen Qinglan’s tears broke free. She leaned on Fu Hengyi’s chest as he embraced her, whispering words of comfort to her.

Eden also went in; the door to the ward slowly closed.
