Chapter 235: 235. Chasing Murder on a Rainy Night 2 (Second Update)

Xu Nuo smiled slowly at Jin Enxi, her fingers tightening with force. Jin Enxi’s face underwent a drastic change; she instinctively looked down, dodging Xu Nuo’s first strike, then reflexively stomped on the gas pedal, and the car shot out like an arrow released from its bow.

Xu Nuo relentlessly pursued her. Jin Enxi’s car swerved left and right on the road, sparks flying between the tires and the pavement.

Seeing Xu Nuo who was doggedly tailing her, Jin Enxi’s face turned cold. She glanced at the rear-view mirror and then called Eden, "Eden, it’s me. I’m in trouble, on Binhe Road. There’s only one person after me. I need backup."

"I’ll be right there. Be careful," Eden instructed before hanging up, taking a package from the bedside table in the bedroom, and going straight out the door.

"Well then, let me keep you company for a while," Jin Enxi’s lips curled into a slight smirk. She glanced at the car behind her and pressed the accelerator again. Thankfully, they were already in the suburbs, and due to the heavy rain, there were hardly any other vehicles on the road.

Xu Nuo kept up the chase but had not managed to hit Jin Enxi even once. Her eyes grew increasingly icy. She had clashed with Jin Enxi before, knowing full well how tough this woman was; that’s why she had chosen this moment. Unexpectedly, without weapons, this woman was still so cunning.

Watching the fleeing car, Xu Nuo too increased her speed, the distance between the two cars rapidly closing. Jin Enxi caught a glimpse of Xu Nuo in her side mirror and saw the nearly ninety-degree turn ahead. With determination in her eyes, she made a sharp ninety-degree turn—a beautiful drift. Xu Nuo, unable to turn in time, crashed heavily into the guardrail.

Jin Enxi burst into laughter, whistled towards Xu Nuo, and made a ’bye-bye’ gesture.

Xu Nuo’s car’s front crumpled in instantly, "Damn." She pounded the steering wheel hard, picked up something from the passenger seat, got out of the car, and let out a cold laugh. Aiming at Jin Enxi’s car, she pressed the trigger. Jin Enxi saw this scene in the rear-view mirror, her face changing instantly; she opened the car door, rolled out onto the ground, and immediately abandoned the car.

A massive explosion sounded through the rainy night. Jin Enxi watched as her car instantly turned into a pile of scrap metal, and she let out a silent sigh of relief. She had almost gone to meet God just now.

Seeing Xu Nuo catching up, Jin Enxi turned and ran. As she ran, she swore to herself that once she was safe, she would not let Xu Nuo off the hook. It had been many years since she had last been in such a humiliating situation—being chased. If word got out, she’d lose all face.

If she had a... in her hand, she would definitely stand and fight Xu Nuo, but for now... she better run.

Jin Enxi was fast, but Xu Nuo’s speed was no less formidable. The relentless pursuit continued, and it wasn’t easy for Jin Enxi to shake her off.

Xu Nuo somehow acquired something in her hand. Jin Enxi grunted, her steps faltering for a moment, but without pausing, she quickened her pace. Xu Nuo gave chase but had only taken a couple of steps when a figure suddenly darted out from the side and went on the attack.

She dodged, but could only watch helplessly as Jin Enxi escaped her sight. She felt frustrated, turned around, and fired in the direction behind her.

Jin Enxi, having shaken off Xu Nuo, stopped and clutched her left chest, where Xu Nuo’s last strike had hit her. Blood was now flowing from the wound.

She pulled off the scarf from around her neck, pressed it to the wound, and stumbled in a chosen direction. She didn’t know how long she had been running. To avoid Xu Nuo, she had taken a small pathway; combined with the rain, she had long lost her sense of direction.

The cold rain pelted her body, mixing with her blood as it washed into the ground. She silently rejoiced that it was on such a night; otherwise, if Xu Nuo followed the blood trail, she probably would have met her end here tonight.

Her strength gradually ebbed away, and even her consciousness began to drift far from her.

"Squeal—" A piercing screech of brakes filled the air, and all Jin Enxi saw was a blinding light.

She closed her eyes and immediately passed out. Before losing consciousness, she vaguely saw a familiar face.

Inside the car, Daniel looked at the figure that had fallen in front of his vehicle, his face losing all color as he realized he might have just hit a person.

After sitting in the car for a while, Daniel calmed down, got out to check on the person he had hit, and saw that by the body’s shape, it seemed to be a woman.

"Hey, are you okay?" Daniel’s voice trembled slightly. Seeing that the woman did not respond, he reached out to touch her. Jin Enxi still did not react. "She couldn’t really be dead, could she?"

Daniel’s face turned even paler. Studying the woman on the ground, he boldly turned her over, and when he clearly saw Jin Enxi’s face, his expression changed dramatically.

He had never anticipated that the person he’d hit would be Shen Qinglan’s friend. However, as Daniel saw the blood continuously flowing from Jin Enxi’s chest by the car’s headlights, he immediately realized something was amiss.

The wound on her body was not caused by the accident.

He hurriedly crouched down, propping up Jin Enxi. "Hey, wake up." He patted Jin Enxi’s face to no avail.

"Hey, you can’t die on me. If you die, even jumping into the Yellow River wouldn’t wash away my guilt."

Jin Enxi barely opened her eyes, looked at the man in front of her, and blinked, "Stop howling, I’m not dead yet." Her voice was weak from excessive blood loss. Daniel’s eyes lit up, "That’s great, you’re not dead. I’ll take you to the hospital right now."

As he was about to pick her up, Jin Enxi grabbed his hand, "Can’t go to the hospital, no hospital."

Daniel looked anxious, "If you don’t go to the hospital, you’re going to die." He had already noticed that the wounds on Jin Enxi were far from ordinary.

Guns were not allowed in this country, so why would she be injured like this, especially in such a remote place? This area was near the mountainous part of the suburbs of Jing City, with only a leisure farm nearby. He was here today to hang out with friends and was planning to stay overnight, but he received an urgent call that evening and had to rush back to the city to deal with some matters. That’s when he encountered the injured Jin Enxi.

"I’d rather die than go to the hospital." Jin Enxi squeezed the words out through clenched teeth. Her head was spinning, but her eyes were fixed on Daniel. Her injuries would cause unnecessary trouble at the hospital, and it could potentially implicate Shen Qinglan.

"All right, all right, I won’t take you to the hospital. I’ll take you home; is that okay?" Daniel conceded.

"Go to your home." Shangya Garden might have been compromised already. Going back now, who knows if someone was waiting for her, and Eden wasn’t absolutely safe either. Right now, Daniel’s place was the safest.

Daniel had no objections, helped Jin Enxi into the car, and as he saw her wound still bleeding, he felt somewhat helpless, "Your wound is still bleeding; what should I do?"

Jin Enxi leaned on the passenger seat, her hand pressing against her chest, "It’s fine, just go." If they didn’t leave soon, once Xu Nuo caught up, neither of them would be able to leave.

Daniel looked deeply concerned, "Are you sure your injury is nothing serious?" He had never seen someone bleed so much and still be awake.

"Don’t waste time, let’s go."

Daniel didn’t waste any more words either, he stomped on the gas pedal without regard for safety, and soon was driving toward his own home, glancing at Jin Enxi beside him from time to time.

When the car reached the entrance of the residential complex, Jin Enxi had already fallen completely unconscious. Daniel covered her with his suit jacket, concealing her wounds, before carrying her to his home.

Without considering that Jin Enxi was soaked through, Daniel placed her on the bed, frantically searching for the first aid kit, but was clueless on how to handle her wounds.

Looking at Jin Enxi’s pale face, Daniel slapped his forehead, then remembered to call Shen Qinglan.

Shen Qinglan had just gone to bed when Daniel’s call came in, she didn’t say a word, she grabbed her keys and hurried out the door, without even time to change clothes. On the way, she called Eden but got no response, her face turned very grim as she sprinted all the way to Daniel’s home.

Daniel had already changed Jin Enxi into a clean set of clothes. When he saw Shen Qinglan, it was as if he saw a savior.

"Where is Enxi?"

Daniel led Shen Qinglan to the bedroom, where she saw Jin Enxi lying on the bed, pale-faced and lifeless. Her pupils contracted suddenly, black and seemingly bottomless.

Right then, her phone rang. Shen Qinglan glanced at it—it was Eden; she reported Daniel’s address and then drove Daniel out of the room.

Pulling back the clothing on Jin Enxi’s chest and looking at the bloodstained wound that seeped through thick gauze, Shen Qinglan didn’t need to guess who was responsible.

She should never have let Xu Nuo off that morning.

Eden arrived rapidly, drenched from head to toe. Upon entering, he didn’t say a word, he went straight into the bedroom and took a look at Jin Enxi. His expression was very grave, "Enxi’s situation is very serious, the bullet is still in her chest cavity, it hasn’t been removed in time, and she’s lost a lot of blood. We must get her to a hospital now."

"Then we’ll go to the hospital right now, I’ll go start the car," Shen Qinglan said decisively.

"No, don’t go to the hospital," Jin Enxi, seemingly awake, faintly spoke upon hearing their conversation.

Shen Qinglan looked at her, "Enxi, now is not the time to negotiate, you must go to the hospital, that’s an order."

"I won’t go to the hospital, if you send me there, I’d rather die," she looked toward Eden, "Eden, just do the surgery here. If I die, so be it."

Shen Qinglan’s face turned ashen, looking at Jin Enxi who was still concerned about causing trouble even at this brink, her eyes warmed slightly. She calmed her expression and spoke gently, "Enxi, be good and listen to us, we’ll go to the hospital, I can handle the troubles."

Jin Enxi shook her head, "I won’t go to the hospital, An, you know it’s the place I hate the most, I don’t want to die in a hospital."

"There’s no time, An, just do it here," Eden spoke, "But I need O-type blood, and none of us here has O-type. An, what do we do?"

Daniel, who had been on the sidelines until now, spoke up meekly, "I am O-type."

Eden’s eyes lit up, "Come here. We need a significant amount of blood this time, can you handle it?"

Daniel nodded, with a resigned expression, offering his arm, "Sure, go ahead and take it."

Eden’s medical kit was a bit larger than a standard emergency kit, filled with the necessary items for treating injuries. He had Daniel sit down on the side, and then administered anesthesia to Jin Enxi.

Shen Qinglan held up a light on the side, there was no lamp available, so they had to make do with what they had.

Daniel saw Eden pull out a scalpel and closed his eyes out of fear but didn’t move an inch. By the time the object was retrieved from Jin Enxi’s chest cavity and the wound was stitched up, Daniel’s complexion could no longer be described as pale.

Concerned he might also collapse, Eden stopped the blood transfusion, "An, it’s stable for now, but Enxi’s wound looks a bit infected, she’ll probably have a fever in the latter half of the night."

"Okay, I’ll take care of her here, you go out and change your clothes," Shen Qinglan said softly, for the sake of the surgery’s safety, Eden had to take off his shirt, but he was still drenched in the rain, she was worried he too would collapse.

Eden greeted Daniel and took a set of clothes from his closet before heading into the bathroom.

Shen Qinglan sat quietly on the side, watching the unconscious Jin Enxi with a cold gaze.

"An, who were the people chasing Enxi today?" Eden came out of the bathroom, after checking the condition of Jin Enxi and Daniel, he asked.

"It was Allen’s men."

Eden’s expression changed abruptly, "Is Allen really not dead?"

Shen Qinglan nodded gravely, "This morning I noticed someone was following me, that person is the same woman you were investigating last time."

Although Eden had gone to Jin Enxi’s assistance that night, Xu Nuo fled too quickly, and with the heavy rain, Eden couldn’t get a clear look at her face.

"That woman’s name is Xu Nuo, one of Allen’s people."

Eden’s expression grew serious, he had not expected Allen to still be alive.

"An, if Allen is still alive, he will never let things go." Not only did Allen know about them, but they also were all too familiar with Allen’s nature. As long as he was alive, unless he dies or they die, there could never be a peaceful coexistence between them.

"Now all we can do is wait, have everyone be a little more vigilant these coming days," Shen Qinglan said, she had a strong premonition that Allen would appear very soon.
