Chapter 233: 233. Making Trouble 2 (Second Update)
Seeing that Wen Xiyao was a woman, he thought of making a big score, as after all, his younger brother was dead, and seeking the maximum benefit was the most realistic approach.
He had heard from others that the bigger the company, the more afraid they were of negative news; in such cases, they typically opted to keep things quiet and settle with money, which was why he had brought so many people to make trouble today.
When he saw that Wen Xiyao was actually intending to take legal measures, he felt uneasy, but his pride wouldn’t let him concede aloud, he still yelled, "You are using your power to bully us."
Wen Xiyao’s face was cold, "Now I am also a victim. My company’s employee was just sent to the hospital by you, how do we settle this account? This time, it wasn’t us who started the trouble, nor were the troublemakers from our side." She was someone who wouldn’t yield to threats.
The man was at a loss for words but still refused to give up, "We came back to make trouble because you killed my brother and refused to take responsibility."
Wen Xiyao scoffed, "Ha, is it that I won’t take responsibility, or are you guys just trying to extort a large sum? Also, when did I say I wouldn’t take responsibility?"
The man was utterly speechless, for there were indeed aspects in this matter where he was in the wrong.
Seeing her son being subdued and now even the police were going to be called, the old lady panicked completely, clutching Wen Xiyao’s clothing, "Miss, please, let my son go. He’s all I have. If something happens to him, how will our family of widows and orphans survive?"
"Madam, as I said, I am here to resolve this issue. The accident occurred on my construction site, and regardless of whether it was Wang Chun’s own fault, out of humanity, I won’t just stand by. However, there must be a limit to everything, you initially demanded five million, which I believe any company would refuse."
"Even if not five million, you should at least give us one million, as it was my brother’s life, and he died so young," the man spoke, this time his tone less aggressive.
Wen Xiyao didn’t even look at him but instead turned to the foreman, "Have you called the police?"
"The call has been made, they’ll be here soon."
Hearing that the police were about to arrive, the old lady completely lost her nerve, "Miss, I beg you, let my son go. I am kneeling for you," she said, about to kneel down.
Wen Xiyao was shocked and hastily stepped aside, "Madam, please stand up." She reached out to help the old lady but then retracted her hand upon seeing the blood on it.
The old lady refused to rise, and Wen Xiyao felt helpless.
At that moment, a pair of strong hands reached out and helped the old lady up, Wen Xiyao saw Shen Junyu appear, to her surprise.
The old lady did not want to get up, but she couldn’t withstand Shen Junyu’s strength, pulling her up, "Madam, please stand."
After handing the old lady over to the police, Shen Junyu noticed Wen Xiyao’s bleeding hand, his brow furrowed deeply, he tore off his tie and wrapped it around the palm of Wen Xiyao.
"How did you come?" Wen Xiyao asked softly.
Shen Junyu glanced at her, "If I hadn’t come, how were you planning to handle this?"
"How it should be handled. Didn’t you see I already called the police?"
Shen Junyu gave her a sideways glance, "didn’t you say you were going to the hospital to see Wang Chun’s family? How come you are here instead?"
Wen Xiyao sheepishly smiled, "Manager Yu called me saying there was trouble here, so I came to check."
Shen Junyu scoffed, "I forgot you are like a female warrior, invulnerable."
Wen Xiyao frowned, but the next moment she relaxed her brows and looked at Shen Junyu with a face full of grievance, "Shen Junyu, I am injured now." Saying so, she even shook her injured hand in front of Shen Junyu, who immediately lost his temper and looked at her helplessly.
"What am I to do with you."
Wen Xiyao stuck out her tongue, suddenly realizing that occasionally acting a bit coy and charming was quite necessary. Isn’t it said that a woman who can pout is the luckiest? And from the looks of it, Shen Junyu seemed to fall for that too.
Later, whenever Wen Xiyao did something wrong and Shen Junyu intended to reprimand her, Wen Xiyao would put on a pitiful face, and Shen Junyu would lose all his temper, especially after the birth of their daughter, the little princess of the Shen Family. When both mother and daughter looked at him with the same expression, Shen Junyu completely became a slave to his wife and daughter.
The police took away the troublemakers, and the foreman also left, Wen Xiyao was the last to remain, "Aren’t you leaving, planning to stay overnight?" Shen Junyu’s tone was somewhat stern.
Wen Xiyao took a step, and immediately her right foot throbbed painfully; she stood her ground, frowning, Shen Junyu’s expression changed, he quickly walked over, squatted down, and lifted Wen Xiyao’s right foot for inspection, to discover that her ankle was swollen like a bun.
Shen Junyu coldly picked up Wen Xiyao and stuffed her into the car, then drove off without saying a word.
Wen Xiyao glanced at him again and again. Seeing that he remained silent, she finally couldn’t help but speak, "Shen Junyu, I’m the one who’s hurt, not you. Why are you angry?" She felt like getting angry herself.
"I’m not angry," Shen Junyu said stiffly.
Wen Xiyao scoffed, "You’re not angry yet you’re pulling a face at me? Shen Junyu, what do you mean by this? Are you annoyed because I caused you trouble? I didn’t even ask you to come. Even if you hadn’t come, I could have handled this myself."
Shen Junyu suddenly slammed on the brakes, unbuckled his seatbelt, turned towards her, and kissed her—urgent and domineering. Wen Xiyao’s lips hurt from Shen Junyu’s kiss, and it seemed he wasn’t satisfied as he ended up biting her lip.
Wen Xiyao gasped, "Shen Junyu, what are you doing?"
"Wen Xiyao, ask yourself, what am I, Shen Junyu, to you?"
Wen Xiyao looked at his angry face, and suddenly, her own anger dissipated completely, "Shen Junyu, don’t tell me you’re feeling guilty?"
Shen Junyu turned his head away without speaking or looking at her.
Wen Xiyao smiled, "Shen Junyu, you really are feeling guilty. But it’s not your fault. I was the one who fell down by myself."
Shen Junyu indeed felt guilty. He should have accompanied Wen Xiyao to the hospital as soon as he heard she was going. If he had been with her, she wouldn’t have gotten hurt.
If he hadn’t called Wen Xiyao three times without her answering, and anxiously called her assistant instead, he wouldn’t have found out there was trouble at the site and that Wen Xiyao was there.
"I should have come with you," Shen Junyu said, to which Wen Xiyao responded with a light laugh, "Alright, next time something like this happens, I’ll definitely bring you along. Happy now?"
His tone was like that used with children, which amused Shen Junyu.
"Shen Junyu, if you don’t take me to the hospital now, I really am going to die of pain."
Shen Junyu started the car and took Wen Xiyao to the hospital for an x-ray, which the doctor reviewed.
"It’s fine, just a sprain, no bone damage. It should heal in a few days." Seeing Wen Xiyao’s high heels, "You shouldn’t wear high heels for a few days. Better to wear slippers to speed up the recovery."
"Okay, thank you, doctor. Doctor, is her hand okay?" asked Shen Junyu.
"It’s just a minor external injury, but make sure the wound doesn’t get wet to avoid infection."
After getting some medication for Wen Xiyao, Shen Junyu picked up the medication and then took her home. When the car was a kilometer away from home, Wen Xiyao suddenly spoke up, "Shen Junyu, let’s walk back."
Shen Junyu glanced at her foot, the implication clear without words.
Wen Xiyao grinned mischievously, "I might not be able to walk, but you can. Why don’t you carry me? I’ve always had a wish that my boyfriend would carry me around. It’s nighttime now and the streets aren’t busy, just carry me for a bit."
Shen Junyu looked at her, and seeing the expectation in her eyes, finally resignedly got out of the car, "Hop on."
Wen Xiyao giggled as she lay on Shen Junyu’s back, while he gripped her legs and stood up.
"Shen Junyu, am I heavy?" Wen Xiyao asked, arms around Shen Junyu’s neck, whispering in his ear.
"Heavy, dead heavy, you should diet," Shen Junyu replied, though actually, she was not heavy at all—Wen Xiyao was even slimmer than Shen Qinglan.
Wen Xiyao’s cheeks darkened, "How could that be? I’m only 88 pounds, and you’re calling me heavy."
Shen Junyu chuckled lightly, "Just kidding, you’re not heavy at all. Remember to eat more, being too skinny isn’t attractive."
"What if I get so fat you can’t carry me?"
"Even if you gained another fifty kilos, I could still carry you easily."
