Chapter 188. Shen Qinglan, stop right there.
Chapter 188: 188. Shen Qinglan, stop right there.
Very quickly, tranquility returned to the area once more as both men ran out of bullets. Fu Hengyi tossed his gun to the ground. KING thought about escaping, but he knew it was impossible without first dealing with Fu Hengyi.
With a cruel smile, KING discarded his gun and, as if by mutual agreement, they engaged in hand-to-hand combat.
When Shen Qinglan and Andre arrived at the scene, what they saw was the two men fighting. There were people lying motionless on the ground, both from the drug traffickers and from Z country, some dead, some alive. Shen Qinglan’s expression changed when she saw the familiar military uniforms, especially upon seeing Mu Liancheng, her heart skipped a beat—Fu Hengyi was indeed here.
In fact, with military camo paint on his face, Mu Liancheng would have been unrecognizable to anyone not familiar with him, yet Shen Qinglan recognized him instantly, thanks to her astonishing memory.
Seeing a black gun muzzle pointed at Mu Liancheng from not far away and Mu Liancheng himself unaware of the danger, Shen Qinglan raised her hand, fired a shot without looking back, and walked away; she had to find Fu Hengyi.
Unbeknownst to Mu Liancheng, he had been moments away from having tea with the King of Hell, fully focused on dealing with the person in front of him, with no attention to spare elsewhere.
The rainforest was vast, and finding Fu Hengyi was like searching for a needle in a haystack.
"An, this rainforest is so vast, how will we find him?" asked Andre, pushing aside some shrubbery in front of him.
Shen Qinglan’s expression was composed, but upon closer inspection, one could see the worry in her eyes. Before seeing Mu Liancheng, she had merely suspected and had held onto that sliver of hope, hoping that Fu Hengyi wouldn’t appear here. But after spotting Mu Liancheng, that slim chance disappeared. Fu Hengyi was the captain, a responsible one at that, and if his teammates were here in such a dangerous mission, he could not be absent.
She quickly dealt with a venomous snake about to attack her, looked around at the surroundings, and pointed in a direction, "Let’s go this way."
Andre glanced at the direction she chose, "Indeed, this is the closest route to the national border, but it doesn’t mean they will choose this one."
"Let’s try our luck," Shen Qinglan said calmly, even though her pace quickened involuntarily. Along the way, whenever they encountered members of the D traffickers or BK, they would take action in time. Although Andre wanted to remain neutral, whenever Shen Qinglan took action, he could not just stand by and watch.
With their intervention, even though they couldn’t immediately turn the tide, they did alleviate some of the pressure for the Z country’s police force, reducing their casualties.
At first, the police were caught off guard, but as the trend continued, they realized someone was helping them. No one knew who their benefactor was, assuming it was an ally called upon by Li Liansheng. Later on, after the incident concluded, the Sharp Blade Unit received commendation from their superiors.
"An, there seem to be people fighting over there," Andre pointed in a direction, Shen Qinglan’s eyes narrowed as she headed that way.
Andre followed closely behind; they had dealt with quite a few people on their way and their bullets were nearly spent.
As she approached, Shen Qinglan saw Fu Hengyi and KING locked in combat, evenly matched, with neither having gained the upper hand despite the long fight. Fu Hengyi had acquired quite a few new wounds, though only superficial, yet still quite alarming; KING however was not faring much better.
Shen Qinglan and Andre remained hidden on the side, unnoticed by the combatants.
"An, is that your man?" Andre pointed toward Fu Hengyi.
Shen Qinglan’s gaze never left Fu Hengyi, always alert to his condition. When she heard Andre’s question, she nodded slightly, "Yes."
Although Andre had never met Fu Hengyi, he knew KING and couldcombine that with Shen Qinglan’s behavior to guess Fu Hengyi’s identity quite easily.
"An, your man is very strong," Andre stated seriously, his demeanor turning grave. He could discern a measure of Fu Hengyi’s strength from their exchanges, and having crossed fists with KING himself, he understood KING’s capabilities. In his mind, he silently pondered his own chances if he were to face Fu Hengyi, concluding that he stood no chance.
"An, are you going to go up and help them?"
Shen Qinglan shook her head. Now Fu Hengyi was gradually gaining the upper hand. If she appeared, Fu Hengyi would surely be surprised by her presence, which might instead be more of a hindrance. It was only by watching the bloodstains on his body that Shen Qinglan’s gaze toward KING became colder and more intense.
Fu Hengyi and KING were still unable to determine the victor. Impatience finally flashed in KING’s eyes. "Hey, since you guys are the reinforcement this time and our operation is already ruined by you, you’ve made your merit. Why don’t you just let me go? How about that?"
Fu Hengyi didn’t answer him. Instead, his moves became even more aggressive, each blow aimed directly at vital points. KING was hit in the abdomen and cursed in pain, his eyes flashing with a ruthless glint.
From who knows where, he pulled out a dagger and stabbed at Fu Hengyi, who dodged but was still slashed on the arm. The wound was quite deep, and blood immediately began to flow out in abundance.
It was already dawn, and Shen Qinglan could see the wound on Fu Hengyi’s arm clearly. She was determined, raised her handgun, aimed at KING, but could not bring herself to pull the trigger. Fu Hengyi was entangled in a fight with KING, and she was afraid a careless shot could hit Fu Hengyi, something she absolutely couldn’t accept.
The two men, originally evenly matched, were now unevenly equipped—one with a weapon and the other without. Fu Hengyi inevitably found himself at a disadvantage. Shen Qinglan’s eyes were tightly fixed on Fu Hengyi, her gun-holding hand steady and her expression cold.
KING stabbed Fu Hengyi in the chest, and when KING pulled the dagger out, blood sprayed all over his face. He grinned cruelly, licked the blood from the corner of his mouth, and Fu Hengyi stumbled back, his face suddenly pale as he clutched his wound, his hand stained with fresh blood.
KING raised his dagger again, and just as he aimed for Fu Hengyi’s heart, Shen Qinglan finally pulled the trigger. The bullet whizzed through the air, through KING’s arm, and into the trunk of a tree beside him.
KING screamed in pain, and Fu Hengyi took the opportunity to disable his unharmed hand and then pummeled him several times before pulling out handcuffs from his waist and securing them around KING’s wrists.
Seeing KING subdued, Shen Qinglan, with Andre in tow, began to retreat. "Let’s go," she said, heading toward the edge of the rainforest.
After making sure that KING was rendered immobile, Fu Hengyi handed him over to Wang Hao, who had recovered slightly, and started to chase in the direction Shen Qinglan and the others had taken.
During the fight with KING, he had sensed someone’s presence but couldn’t figure out who it was. Eventually, that person appeared to shoot, helping him.
Shen Qinglan was fast, knowing that her gunshot would surely catch Fu Hengyi’s attention, yet she fired it anyway, just as KING was about to plunge his dagger into Fu Hengyi’s heart.
Although she was quick, Fu Hengyi was faster. Seeing the fast-moving figure ahead, Fu Hengyi’s shock turned to chilling determination.
With his wound still bleeding and feeling the draining of his strength, his reason told him to stop, but his body did not obey. He closed in on the familiar silhouette. "Shen Qinglan, stop."
Fu Hengyi yelled at the figure in front of him.
Shen Qinglan’s body stiffened for a moment but then quickly accelerated her pace as if she hadn’t heard him.
"Shen Qinglan, if you don’t stop, I will keep pursuing you. I’m seriously injured. If you want to see me bleed to death, then just keep running."
Indeed, the figure ahead stopped, and Fu Hengyi’s heart sunk to the bottom.
"An, go quickly." Andre knew the gravity of the situation and urged her, knowing that the man had not yet confirmed his suspicion, and even if asked later, they could vehemently deny it. But if they faced each other now, things would be truly hard to explain.
"Andre, you go. You haven’t seen your own face," Shen Qinglan said, not leaving but instead speaking to Andre.
Andre wanted to persuade her but heard Shen Qinglan continue, "He’s my husband, he won’t harm me. You go first, meet up with Enxi and the others."
Andre stopped insisting, took a deep look at Shen Qinglan, and left. Fu Hengyi didn’t concern himself with him; his eyes were intently focused on the silhouette ahead. The closer he got, the more his heart trembled.
Why was Shen Qinglan here? Wasn’t she on vacation in Country Y? Yet, the person who should have been overseas was now in this rainforest, appearing amidst his combat against criminals.
Shen Qinglan could clearly hear the footsteps behind her getting closer and closer, five meters, four meters, three meters, one meter...
She gently closed her eyes, her gun long since thrown away to who knows where. Her hands were clenched into tight fists, as though she was awaiting the judgment of the apocalypse.
At last, Fu Hengyi stood in front of her.
Shen Qinglan had already opened her eyes by now, her gaze calm and deep.
"Why are you here?" Fu Hengyi’s gaze trembled fiercely as he stared at Shen Qinglan, afraid of hearing something he didn’t want to hear.
Shen Qinglan was also looking at him, observing his pale face from excessive blood loss. There were many wounds on his body, all acquired while fighting with KING. Looking at them up close, she could see the injuries even clearer than she had imagined; there were more than she had anticipated.
A pained expression flashed across her eyes.
"Tell me, why are you here?" Fu Hengyi demanded again, his voice deep and firm.
"What do you think?" Shen Qinglan asked quietly, her voice very light.
Fu Hengyi gazed steadily at her, his eyes filled with unexplained emotions, "I want you to tell me in person."
Shen Qinglan was silent.
"The gunshot earlier, that was you, wasn’t it?" Fu Hengyi’s voice was slightly hoarse, trembling at the end.
Shen Qinglan slowly nodded under Fu Hengyi’s gaze, "Yes."
"Why did you shoot?" If it weren’t for that shot, he might not have discovered Shen Qinglan so easily.
"I didn’t want to see you get hurt."
A different kind of emotion skimmed through Fu Hengyi’s eyes as he spoke softly, "You fired the gun, so why did you run?"
"I didn’t want you to recognize me." Yet, you still realized who I was.
Shen Qinglan lowered her gaze, staring at the ground beneath her feet, and said softly, "Fu Hengyi, if I tell you that I’m not one of them, would you believe me?"
"I believe," he asserted powerfully, resounding in Shen Qinglan’s ears without a hint of hesitation, the word released almost immediately after she finished speaking.
Shen Qinglan suddenly looked up at Fu Hengyi, "You believe me?"
Fu Hengyi’s eyes, which held none of the disappointment or anger she had expected, only showed relief. A sour feeling welled up in Shen Qinglan’s heart. It turned out he had never doubted her association with KING and his crew. He just wanted a reason, even if it was one concocted on the spot. There was a hint of tearfulness in her eyes. How deeply must Fu Hengyi love her for him to trust her against his own principles?
"Fu Hengyi, I don’t want to deceive you, but for now, I can’t tell you why I am here and who I really am. However, I can tell you that I have nothing to do with BK and his group."
Fu Hengyi reached out, gently wiping the tears from her face with tender motions, and only then did Shen Qinglan realize that she had been crying.
"I know. I’ll wait for you to tell me," Fu Hengyi said gently, already aware that Shen Qinglan was certainly not the simple daughter of the Shen Family. The Shen Family taught their children self-defense techniques but certainly not how to take a life.
The first time he came home in the middle of the night, Fu Hengyi had briefly sparred with Shen Qinglan. Although it was just a few moves, the way Shen Qinglan aimed for the vital spots with her decisive and swift actions, he knew these were not the tactics taught by the Shen Family.
He had speculated and thought about investigating, but in the end, he did nothing. He believed that one day she would be willing to tell him. Seeing Shen Qinglan here today was indeed a surprise.
Shen Qinglan did not want to cry. She was not a crybaby, but in the presence of Fu Hengyi, she finally couldn’t help but let the tears fall.
Fu Hengyi simply wanted to comfort her, but she cried even harder, forcing him to hold her in his embrace while gently patting her, "Fool, I’ve told you I’ll never leave you."
Shen Qinglan grasped the fabric of Fu Hengyi’s clothing at his chest, smelling the scent of rust at the tip of her nose, and finally remembered that Fu Hengyi was still injured. She hastily withdrew, but because of her earlier movement, the wound on his chest started bleeding again. Her face was frantic as she covered the wound with her hand, blood covering her palm.
"Don’t panic, I’m fine. You need to leave here now," he insisted, knowing that if anyone found out Shen Qinglan was there, it would complicate things. He trusted her, but others might not.
Shen Qinglan shook her head; how could she possibly leave with him in such a state?
"Be sensible. If someone sees you, it will cause trouble. Leave now, and I promise to show up safely before you," Fu Hengyi assured, his voice hinting at weakness.
Shen Qinglan still shook her head, "I’ll watch them take you away before I leave. Fu Hengyi, don’t worry about me. The rainforest to me is like the garden at home; I’ll be fine, I won’t get hurt. My business here is done. I will immediately go home, go home and wait for you. Then, I will tell you everything."
Fu Hengyi had already carefully checked; indeed, there were no wounds on her. "Okay."
Fu Hengyi got in touch with Mu Liancheng, with Shen Qinglan supporting him.
Mu Liancheng was nearby and arrived quickly. Before he came, Shen Qinglan had already moved out of sight, watching as Mu Liancheng supported Fu Hengyi away, then she left the area.
Andre hadn’t gone far. They had a special way of communicating, so it was convenient for Shen Qinglan to contact him.
"An, are you okay?" Andre asked, somewhat tentatively.
Shen Qinglan shook her head, "I’m fine. Let’s go." She was silent, and Andre, following her, didn’t know what else to say for the moment.
"Let’s part ways here, Andre. I need to go back. When you return to Country Y, tell Enxi and the rest that I will visit them when I have time," Shen Qinglan said after stepping out of the rainforest.
Andre nodded silently, then turned and walked away.
Shen Qinglan glanced back at the rainforest she had left behind and then departed as well.
"Captain, how are you feeling?" Mu Liancheng asked, concerned as he looked at Fu Hengyi covered in blood.
Fu Hengyi shook his head, "I’m fine. What’s the status of KING?"
"He’s been handed over to Li Liansheng. They will handle it."
"How are the casualty figures this time?"
"There were no deaths on our side, but most of our people were injured. Three suffered serious injuries, while the rest had minor ones that would heal in a few days."
Upon hearing this, Fu Hengyi felt slightly relieved. These were the brothers he had brought with him, and naturally, he wanted to bring them all back safe and sound.
"What about Li Liansheng’s side?"
Mu Liancheng fell briefly silent before answering solemnly, "Fifteen died, and there are a dozen with serious injuries."
Fu Hengyi’s heart sank. Although these losses were minimal compared to the number of the enemy, the loss of these fifteen lives still weighed heavily on him. They were all heroes, sacrificing their lives to protect the country’s security.
Fu Hengyi received basic first aid at a nearby hospital before returning to the base with the main forces. Though his body bore many wounds, most were superficial—except for the stab to his chest, which wasn’t fatal thanks to his blocking it.
This mission was a success, capturing most of the criminals. Although some escaped, they caught the largest criminal from Z country within the borders, D. The only regret was that KING had escaped; during the transfer, somebody from BK freed KING.
When news of this reached the unit, Mu Liancheng was furious for a long time, "These idiots, they couldn’t even keep watch over a single person. All our efforts went to waste."
Mu Liancheng cursed, but it aggravated his wounds, causing him to cough repeatedly.
Fu Hengyi was sitting up in his hospital bed impassively. He too had been angry when he first learned of the event, but quickly came to terms with it. If KING were so easily captured, he wouldn’t have been KING.
He held a mobile phone in his hand, recently brought by Mu Liancheng, "Instead of stewing in anger, you might as well go back and think about how to write this report."
Mu Liancheng’s face stiffened as he looked at Fu Hengyi, "Captain, isn’t this your job?"
Fu Hengyi lifted his bandaged right hand, "Do you think I can still write reports?"
Mu Liancheng was caught off guard and left the hospital room with a sour face. Your right hand is injured and you can’t write reports, but you can still send messages. Captain, don’t think I didn’t see you playing with your phone.
But there’s no arguing with rank, and since he was the Captain, Mu Liancheng glanced at his own injured right hand and resignedly went back to write the report.
Seeing that the extra person had left, Fu Hengyi called Shen Qinglan, "Have you arrived home?"
Shen Qinglan had just gotten home, not returning to the main house but rather to Jiangxin Garden. Hearing Fu Hengyi’s familiar voice, she smiled slightly, "I just got home. How are your injuries?"
This operation was classified, so his family did not know Fu Hengyi was hurt, except for Shen Qinglan, and he had no intention of informing them, to save them from worry.
"I’m fine, all bandaged up. They’re just minor injuries, but I lost a bit too much blood."
Upon hearing this, Shen Qinglan was somewhat reassured but didn’t know what to say for a moment. Having just gone through such an incident with her identity nearly exposed, she wasn’t sure how to face Fu Hengyi.
Fu Hengyi, however, seemed oblivious to her discomfort and spoke gently, "Rest well at home these next few days and don’t come back for now. Didn’t you tell the family you were going abroad for a vacation? You can go overseas to have fun in a couple of days after you’ve rested."
"Alright, Fu Hengyi, I’ll wait for you to come home." I’ll wait for you to come home, then tell you everything. I just hope that after you know, you won’t hate me.
Fu Hengyi chuckled and agreed.
After hanging up the phone, Shen Qinglan sat on the sofa for quite a while before contacting Jin Enxi, only to relax after learning they had safely returned to Country Y and that Eden was alright.
"An, are you okay?" Jin Enxi asked, moving away from the others. She already knew from Andre’s account that they had encountered Fu Hengyi.
Knowing what she was asking about, Shen Qinglan smiled, "I’m fine, I’ll come over again in a couple of days."
"Did he not ask anything?"
"No, Enxi, I’m a bit tired, I’m going to rest now."
Shen Qinglan walked into the bedroom, lay down on the bed, and closed her eyes, but she couldn’t fall asleep at all. Her body was clearly exhausted, but she didn’t feel the slightest bit sleepy.
She was thinking about Fu Hengyi, and also about how to explain things to him.
**
At an estate overseas, a man’s face was covered in sweat, his veins bulging on his hands, clearly enduring great pain.
The man was very handsome, with a somewhat delicate appearance, yet he didn’t come off as effeminate. Probably the pain was too intense, as he was gritting his teeth tightly, his expression fierce.
He lay on the bed, the sheets below him already soaked with sweat, indicating the extent of his suffering.
Next to him stood a man who looked like a doctor, with an Eastern face, completely focused on inserting needles into the man’s leg, seemingly deaf to the man’s pained roars.
An hour later, he pulled the needles out of the man’s leg, "Allen, how are you feeling today?"
The man on the bed, Allen, managed a smile, "Very good." It was indeed better than ever before.
"I can see that. The sensation in your leg has recovered a lot. If this continues, you won’t need a year before you can start rehabilitation training, and you might be able to stand within three years."
Upon hearing this, Allen said coldly, "That won’t do, three years is too long. At most one year, I want to be no different from an ordinary person."
"That’s impossible, Allen. The fact that you could save your leg was already a miracle. Now that you’re regaining sensation, being able to stand within three years is already a blessing from God. Within one year, do you think I’m a deity?" Peter said angrily, scolding Allen’s wishful thinking.
Allen gave a cruel smile, a handgun already aimed at Peter, "Stop talking nonsense to me; I said one year, and it must be one year. If I can’t stand after one year, then you’ll go to God to pray for me. After so many miracles have already happened, one more won’t make a difference."
Peter, faced with the muzzle of the gun, didn’t show fear, but he knew clearly that Allen was not joking; he would indeed do such a thing. Allen was a madman before, and since that incident, he had become even madder.
Brushing aside the gun, Peter said impatiently, "I get it, I’ll try my best. But don’t always point a gun at me. Be careful or I really might stop treating you, and then you can go cry about it." With that, he packed up his things and left the room.
Allen, feeling the pain in his leg, looked out at the brilliant sunlight and thought of a certain tiny figure in a distant place. His face broke into a joyous smile, "Xiaoqi, you’d better wait for me."
**
Shen Qinglan slept all day at home, and when she woke up the next day, she felt groggy. She had had a long dream, a dream filled with scenes of being trained at the Devil Base, those images still vividly etched in her mind.
Her gaze was vacant, and a dull ache emanated from deep within her heart—she had dreamt of Qin Mu, the one who had held her in his arms and ultimately died to protect her.
She picked up her cellphone to check the time, ten in the morning. She slowly rose to her feet, changed her clothes, and went to the bathroom to freshen up.
After she finished, Shen Qinglan left home. She needed to make a trip to Country Y. The meal she had previously arranged with her mentor had also been postponed due to the incidents of the past few days.
Shen Qinglan first stopped by at Shangya Garden, where she fetched a passport from a drawer. The photo on it, however, was not of her, and the identity information did not match her own.
She had left the country just over a week ago and was now re-entering using her own identity. So, how had she returned? How could she explain? To avoid trouble, she naturally couldn’t use her own identity.
Each of them had multiple passports, and the identity on each passport was different. On her way to the airport, Shen Qinglan made a stop at a shopping mall. When she reemerged, she had transformed into a woman in her late twenties, her makeup exquisite. Wearing dark sunglasses, sporting wine-red curly hair, she was dressed in a black bodycon dress with a matching coat and a pair of high heels—embodying the essence of a trendy lady.
Such a disguise would fool even Shen Junyu, who would likely not recognize that this fashionably dressed woman was his sister.
Handing her passport to the airport staff member, she removed her sunglasses. The staff member glanced at it and let her through without noticing anything amiss.
Upon arriving in Country Y, she was greeted by Jin Enxi, "An."
Jin Enxi had known Shen Qinglan for many years and was familiar with each other’s backgrounds; recognizing Shen Qinglan wasn’t difficult for her.
She went directly to the hospital, where Cissily could now get up. With Eden’s help, her recovery had hastened.
Shen Qinglan first visited Cissily before going to see Eden. Eden had injuries as well—they were a result of the torture he endured when he was first captured by KING. Yet, having come from Devil Base, such tactics had no effect on him.
KING, having beaten him several times to no avail and fearing he might escape, had ordered that Eden be continuously injected with a drug that left the body weak.
"Eden," Shen Qinglan had changed back into her casual attire, her face free of makeup.
Eden had already learned from Andre that Shen Qinglan was married. His eyes lit up when he saw her, then dimmed before he smiled at her, "An, you’ve come."
"How’s your health?" she asked.
"It’s much better. Actually, you shouldn’t have come to rescue me. KING wouldn’t have killed me," Eden said, knowing well that his situation could cause trouble for Shen Qinglan. Her status was now such that if it became known she was still connected to them, she might not be able to stay in Z Country.
From the first day he met Shen Qinglan, Eden knew she was different from others, different from anyone in the base. She appeared to be cold, ruthless, but deep in her eyes there was still warmth, tenderness.
Her heart was pure, and it was that purity that attracted him, making him want to do anything for that cleanliness. But now, it was he who had dragged her back into this whirlpool.
"Eden, let’s not have this conversation again—I’ll pretend I didn’t hear you just now," Shen Qinglan spoke calmly, her tone devoid of any displeasure.
But Eden knew she was displeased, and he smiled helplessly, "I understand. When are you going back?"
"Once I’ve confirmed you’re all safe. How about the injuries on Cissily..."
"Don’t worry, it’s okay." Eden noted the ring on her finger, a touch of sorrow flitted through his eyes, yet he accepted it.
She had known for a long time that it was impossible with An, and now that she knew she had waited for her own happiness, she should wish her well.
"An, I heard you got married, congratulations," Eden sincerely wished her.
Shen Qinglan smiled faintly, pretending not to see the sadness in his eyes. They were both proud people who didn’t want others to see their struggles.
"Thank you."
Noticing his gaze, Shen Qinglan’s hand moved slightly. Before setting out for the rescue, she had taken off this ring and only put it back on after returning.
There was a moment of silence in the hospital room. They hadn’t seen each other for six years, and Shen Qinglan was fully aware of Eden’s feelings for her. Now, one was married, and the other was still injured, so she also somewhat didn’t know what to say.
In the end, it was Eden who broke the silence, "An, the item that KING wanted from me, I did not hand over to him. The sample I extracted has already been destroyed by me, and they won’t be able to find that plant based on the sample."
"The tribe you visited..."
"That tribe is deep within the primitive jungle, not a place ordinary people can find. I only stumbled upon it when I was lost. Of all the places I’ve been to, only there did I see that plant; it’s impossible for them to find it anytime soon."
Shen Qinglan’s brow wrinkled slightly, "And how did they come to know you had such a thing?"
Speaking of this, Eden’s expression suddenly chilled, "I brought the plant extract back to the lab, intending to study it properly. However, an assistant of mine, not sure who bribed him, leaked the information."
With that story, Shen Qinglan didn’t need any further clarification. Looking at Eden, "What about that person?"
Knowing whom she asked about, Eden smirked with a hint of coldness, "Don’t know, I’m also looking for him. One day I will find him. Before KING caught me, I was actually developing a new drug; he will be the perfect test subject."
Shen Qinglan nodded and said no more. How Eden chose to deal with the traitor was his freedom; she did not interfere.
Shen Qinglan stayed in the hospital for two more days, making sure that Cissily and Eden had no problems before she returned home. Of course, before leaving, she went shopping, buying gifts for everyone before heading back.
"An, I’ve only now realized you’re also a shopping fanatic. I thought only Cissily was into crazy shopping," Jin Enxi said as she dragged one of Shen Qinglan’s large suitcases. Shen Qinglan had another suitcase in hand.
Shen Qinglan laughed, coming empty-handed but leaving with two large suitcases.
Before entering the airport, Shen Qinglan remembered the encounter with Ya Xi at the art exhibit and looked at Jin Enxi, "When you have time, help me check on the Nancheng Yan Family."
Jin Enxi was taken aback, not quite understanding, as she was not familiar with Z Country and didn’t comprehend what the Yan Family was.
Shen Qinglan explained, "Do you remember I asked you to help me check Qin Mu’s background before? I want to know if there is any connection between Qin Mu and the Yan Family."
Jin Enxi certainly remembered Qin Mu. Ever since Shen Qinglan asked her to investigate if Qin Mu had any family members, she had been searching, but the original data was too thoroughly destroyed to recover, so she had made no progress. Now that Shen Qinglan had given her a direction, the task had become relatively easier.
"Okay. I’ll also be going back in a few days," Jin Enxi said.
Shen Qinglan did not object; she indeed needed Jin Enxi’s help now. There were many things she could not handle personally.
