Chapter 182. Biological Parents? (Second Update)
Chapter 182: 182. Biological Parents? (Second Update)
"You’re mistaken, I only have one sister, and Lanlan never goes there." Shen Junyu spoke indifferently, not even glancing downstairs.
Han Yi grabbed him and didn’t let go, "My bad, I meant your nominal sister. Take a look, is it her or not? I’m ninety percent sure it’s her."
Shen Junyu stopped in his tracks and followed the direction Han Yi was pointing to. Even though Shen Xitong was heavily made up and in a crowd, it wasn’t hard for Shen Junyu to recognize her.
Han Yi clicked his tongue, "You really wouldn’t expect it, your sister actually has this...unknown side to her." He was going to say "flirty," but changed his words at the last second.
Yet Shen Junyu’s face showed no surprise; Shen Xitong had always been good at putting on an act, so her appearance here in this guise was not at all shocking to him.
"Let’s go." Shen Junyu lifted his foot to leave, and Han Yi took one more look at the dance floor before withdrawing his gaze with a scornful laugh.
He had known Shen Xitong for many years and could say he’d known her since she was little. Shen Xitong was beautiful, but despite his fondness for beautiful women, Han Yi had never been interested in her, not because of Shen Junyu but because the woman was too fake. For a woman, to pretend occasionally is cute, but to always pretend is detestable.
By the time Han Yi and Shen Junyu reached the parking lot, Fu Hengyi had already left.
"Where’s Fu Hengyi? He didn’t drive here, does he intend to walk back if he’s not taking my car?" Han Yi didn’t see Fu Hengyi and asked Gu Yang.
Gu Yang shrugged, "His little sister-in-law came to pick him up, he left earlier."
"Tch, men with wives are different after all. It’s making me want to get married too," Han Yi sighed.
Shen Junyu glanced at him, "With so many female friends, it’d be simple for you to get married. If you wanted to become a dad, there’s a queue of women waiting to be graced by your favor."
"What do you guys know, those women are marriage material? If I’m going to marry, I should look for the wife and mother type. Someone like your little sister-in-law wouldn’t be bad." While he said this, the image of a young face flashed through his mind, with crescent moon-shaped eyes and a smile that showed two little tiger teeth.
If it were that girl, she probably couldn’t be the wife and mother type either.
Shaking his head in annoyance, he wondered why he was thinking of that girl again. She’s a tigress, a wild cub who bites.

Fu Hengyi got in the car and realized Yu Xiaoxuan and Fang Tong were sitting in the back, their cheeks slightly flushed, seemingly from drinking.
"Did you drink?" Fu Hengyi asked.
Shen Qinglan shook her head, "I didn’t. They did."
"Mr. Fu, hello," Fang Tong took the initiative to greet him, and Yu Xiaoxuan followed suit.
Fu Hengyi glanced at them in the rearview mirror, smiled softly, and spoke kindly, "Just call me Fu Hengyi, or Brother Fu is fine too."
Fang Tong was somewhat flattered, not daring to do as he suggested, "Yes, Mr. Fu."
Fu Hengyi smiled again but said nothing more.
He sat in the passenger seat, having had a few drinks tonight, it was not advisable for him to drive. Shen Qinglan first dropped Yu Xiaoxuan and Fang Tong home and then went back to the compound with Fu Hengyi.
Fu Hengyi was set to leave on the 10th, and today was already the 8th. These few days, they were staying in the compound.
By the time they got back, everyone at home was already asleep. Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi didn’t wake them up and went to sleep after showering.
The next morning, after breakfast, Fu Hengyi and Shen Qinglan took a stroll in the courtyard, and before they knew it, they had walked to the entrance and were about to witness quite a scene.
Shen Xitong hadn’t come home last night and had gone to a hotel, calling home to say she was staying at a friend’s place. Chu Yunrong, knowing that Shen Xitong had a few female friends in Beijing since her return, did not suspect anything.
After a night out and drinking, Shen Xitong didn’t get up until nearly noon. Knowing that no one would be home today, she wasn’t in a hurry to return. Her grandfather had made plans to go out with old friends, her parents were visiting acquaintances, and Shen Junyu was conveniently ignored by Shen Xitong.
She called for someone to bring her a change of clothes, which were her usual style, then applied light makeup to cover her slightly haggard face before hailing a cab home.
Her car had been left at Charming Color the previous day and not driven back. She simply wanted to lie down at home and didn’t feel like driving, so she decided to leave it there for now.
From a distance, she saw two people standing in a corner at the entrance of the courtyard, bundled up in heavy coats, hunched shoulders and necks, probably due to the cold, pacing back and forth. As she got closer, she realized they were an older man and woman, their hair tinged with gray from age.
Shen Xitong didn’t pay them much mind. She got out of the car and was about to enter when the couple suddenly approached her; the woman even tried to embrace her. Startled, Shen Xitong instinctively stepped back and frowned, chiding coldly, "What are you doing?"
The woman seemed not to have expected such a reaction from Shen Xitong and hesitated, just staring blankly at her.
"Who are you?" Shen Xitong asked with furrowed brows.
It seemed to snap the woman back to reality. Grabbing Shen Xitong’s hand, her eyes filled with tears, she said, "Sanya, we’ve finally found you. You’ve been so hard to find."
Caught off guard, Shen Xitong was grabbed firmly and tried to pull her hand away, only to be surprised by the woman’s startling strength. "Who on earth are you, and what do you want?"
The woman’s face was lit up with excitement. "Sanya, we’re your parents, your real parents."
Upon hearing the first part of the statement, Shen Xitong was about to say they were mistaken, but after hearing the second part, she momentarily paused, her expression faltering before quickly regaining composure. She forcefully pried the woman’s hand away, "You’ve got the wrong person. I’m not your ’Sanya.’ My name is Shen Xitong, and I have parents."
The woman panicked upon hearing this, clinging to Shen Xitong’s hand, "Sanya, we really are your birth parents. We have a photograph."
She then called out to the man behind her, "Hurry, show the photograph to Sanya."
At her words, the man quickly pulled out an old photo from his chest pocket and held it up for Shen Xitong to see, "Sanya, look, this is a photo of you when you were little. We really are your biological parents."
The photo was old, likely not well-preserved, with yellowish mold spots on it. There were two adults and three little girls in the photo, and Shen Xitong immediately recognized the youngest one as herself from childhood, probably around five or six years old.
A flicker of confusion crossed Shen Xitong’s eyes, "Picking any photo and claiming to be my parents... this is fraud. I can call the police."
She had hoped this threat would intimidate the couple, but instead, the man raised his head and looked straight at Shen Xitong, "You call the police. Even in front of them, we aren’t scared. We are here to find our own daughter and have done nothing wrong."
Shen Xitong felt a surge of anger at these righteous words. Regardless of whether these destitute-looking people were her parents, even if they really were, they had abandoned her before, so what right did they have to come looking for her now?
"Speak nicely, talk to Sanya nicely," the woman tried to mediate, as they were here to recognize their daughter, not to make an enemy of her.
The man remained silent.
The woman smiled cautiously and ingratiatingly, "Sanya, if you don’t believe us, we can take a DNA test. We really are your biological parents."
Unable to free her hand from the woman’s grasp, Shen Xitong felt frustrated and turned to call out to the security guards at the entrance, "Are you all dead? Get over here and pull these people away from me!"
The security guards had already noticed the commotion. Originally, they were going to intervene, but Fu Hengyi and Shen Qinglan approached and gestured for them not to interfere. Although they felt a bit embarrassed initially, now, hearing Shen Xitong’s words, the guards’ faces darkened.
They were all soldiers from the military, and even though they were working as security guards, they were still under military command. The leaders residing here had never spoken to them like that before, and having Shen Xitong’s scolding treating them like subordinates was not something they could simply accept with a good face.
One of the young security officers had a look of obvious anger on his face, feeling scornful towards a mere pseudo-phoenix, boasting as if they were of any significance. The real phoenix, after all, would still treat them with courtesy and politeness. He cast his gaze towards Shen Qinglan, but in the end, he held back and said nothing, merely looking at her.
Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi emerged from a corner, "What’s going on?"
It was Fu Hengyi who asked.
Shen Xitong was initially delighted to see Fu Hengyi, but when she spotted Shen Qinglan by his side, the joy on her face vanished without a trace, looking pitifully at Fu Hengyi, "Hengyi, help me pull these two apart."
Fu Hengyi paid no attention to Shen Xitong’s words. Although he already knew the details of the incident, he still feigned ignorance and turned to the couple, "Who are you? Why are you causing a commotion here?"
The middle-aged couple, apparently unaccustomed to encountering someone with Fu Hengyi’s formidable presence, looked visibly nervous and unsettled. The woman’s grip loosened, allowing Shen Xitong to seize the moment to free herself and run to Fu Hengyi’s side. The woman tried to hold onto her but caught only air.
The man remained silent but gave the woman a look. The woman rubbed her hands nervously and spoke carefully, "This, uh..." She didn’t know how to address Fu Hengyi and settled on a term that felt appropriate, "Sir, we are her... her biological parents."
Fu Hengyi glanced sideways and pointed at Shen Xitong, "You’re claiming that you are her biological parents?"
The woman nodded, "Yes, we really are her mom and dad. We’ve been searching for her for many years, and after a great deal of effort, we finally heard she was here. We’ve been looking for her through new years and all, but couldn’t get in, so we were waiting outside the gates."
"How do you know she is indeed your daughter? What if you are mistaken?" Shen Qinglan spoke up, her voice cool and detached.
The middle-aged couple found themselves facing a girl as beautiful as an ethereal fairy, and after just one glance, they lowered their heads, daring not to look again. The woman spoke softly, "We... we have proof. We inquired at the orphanage where we left Sanya all those years ago. The staff told us that Sanya was adopted by a prominent household and after much inquiry that led us through many places, we learned that the household was in Beijing, so here we are."
The woman said a lot, but still didn’t clarify how they knew for sure that Shen Xitong was their daughter.
A hint of a hidden gleam flashed in the depths of Shen Qinglan’s eyes as she watched the couple.
"This is, after all, the main entrance, with people coming and going. It’s unseemly. Let’s go inside. My parents are her adoptive parents, whom you mention. They’re not at home right now, but you can sit at our house for a while, and I’ll give them a call to ask them to come back," Shen Qinglan said calmly and deliberately.
Shen Xitong stared in disbelief, "Why would you let them into our house? They’re swindlers, and you’re even telling dad and mom. Is that necessary?"
As soon as the woman heard this, she became frantic, "We’re not swindlers; we really are her parents."
Shen Qinglan glanced at Shen Xitong, "With the weather so cold outside, regardless of whether it’s true or not, we can’t just leave people out here. What if something happens? Will you take responsibility?"
Shen Xitong choked on her words and fell silent, glaring resentfully at Shen Qinglan before turning and walking away.
Fu Hengyi looked at the couple, "Please, come in."
The couple followed Fu Hengyi inside cautiously. This time, the security officers at the gate didn’t stop them, and the couple stealthily breathed a sigh of relief. But as soon as they caught their breath, they laid eyes on the Shen family’s mansion.
The couple was even more careful now; looking at the exquisite sofas, they dared to sit only on the edge.
Sister-in-law Song didn’t know who these people were but could tell they were not relatives of the Shen family, served the couple some tea anyway.
The woman, feeling awkward and unsure what to do, kept thanking Sister-in-law Song repeatedly. Her hands were so cold she wanted to hold the warm tea cup immediately, but instead she rubbed her hands on her trousers again and again before cautiously picking up the cup.
The man appeared calmer than the woman, but the stiffness of his back betrayed his nervousness.
Shen Xitong went upstairs and stayed there, not coming back down. Shen Qinglan had already called Shen Qian and Chu Yunrong, who were on their way back. Meanwhile, she sat with Fu Hengyi on the couch, keeping the visitors company.
At first, the couple kept their heads down, not daring to look around. But as time passed and they observed that Fu Hengyi and Shen Qinglan, though seemingly unapproachable, neither gave them a hard time nor looked down on them, their courage grew.
Both carefully raised their heads, taking in the house. When they saw the exquisite furniture, a trace of greed surfaced in the woman and man’s eyes. The woman even stealthily stretched out her hand to touch the sofa.
Though Shen Qinglan wasn’t looking at them, the corner of her eye was vigilant. Seeing this scene, a flicker of satisfaction finally appeared in her eyes.
The information about Jin Enxi was indeed accurate, and these two did not disappoint her.
Fu Hengyi gave her a look, squeezing her hand, Shen Qinglan turned to him and saw the teasing smile in his eyes; she calmly shifted her gaze away.
Even though Fu Hengyi didn’t know the details of the event, he could tell it was certainly related to her by her demeanor, and perhaps she was even the orchestrator. From the appearance of this couple, he could tell life at home must not be easy, and they wouldn’t have the time or energy to seek out a daughter they had intentionally discarded years ago - to have found her so easily was suspicious.
Coincidences do exist, but too many make one doubtful. However, he had no fondness for Shen Xitong either. Whatever Shen Qinglan wanted to do, he would stand beside her.
Shen Qian and Chu Yunrong returned quickly, and with them came Old Sir Shen.
Seeing that Old Sir Shen had also come back, Shen Qinglan stood up to help him sit down, "Grandfather, weren’t you at your old friend’s house?"
Old Sir Shen glanced at her, "There’s trouble at home, how could I stay put?" He looked around and, seeing the unfamiliar faces on the sofa, knew these must be the couple.
"Where’s Xitong?" he frowned at not seeing Shen Xitong.
"She’s upstairs," said Fu Hengyi.
Old Sir Shen looked toward Chu Yunrong, "Go call her down."
Chu Yunrong rose to summon her.
Only then did Old Sir Shen address the couple, "May I ask how you address yourselves?"
The two had been uneasy since the three came in, especially with the sternness of Old Sir Shen when he wasn’t smiling. Hearing his question, the woman dared not speak, but the man rubbed his hands, "My name is Li Datou, and this is my wife, Tian Cuifang."
Old Sir Shen nodded, expressionless, "I hear you’ve come looking for your daughter?"
"Yes, yes, your eldest daughter is my own flesh and blood." Li Datou replied, afraid Old Sir Shen wouldn’t believe him, he even took out a photograph and handed it to the old man, "This is our family portrait; the youngest one there is Sanya."
Old Sir Shen took the photograph, looked closely for a moment, Shen Xitong had been nine years old when she came to the Shen family, somewhat different from the little girl in the picture, yet similarities could still be discerned.
He put down the photograph and placed it on the table. By then, Chu Yunrong and Shen Xitong had also come downstairs, with Shen Xitong’s face full of reluctance.
"You claim Xitong is your daughter; besides this photograph, do you have any other evidence?" Shen Qian asked solemnly.
The man seemed caught off guard by Shen Qian’s question, hesitating, "I am her biological father; what other proof is needed? Besides, isn’t this photograph enough?"
"You say you’re my biological father, and that’s supposed to be true? Photographs can be faked too. I think you’re just scammers," Shen Xitong said spitefully.
Li Datou didn’t dare to be defiant in front of the Shen family, but in his heart, Shen Xitong was his daughter, and a daughter who talked back to her father was unfilial. His expression changed instantly, wanting to rage, but Tian Cuifang quickly grabbed him and made frantic eye signals.
Li Datou calmed down instantly, right, the most important thing now was to acknowledge his daughter. The people who had come to see them had told him that his daughter could play the piano now, that she earned a lot of money. If they could just get this daughter back, their family’s life would immediately improve; he wouldn’t have to work from dawn till dusk anymore and could have money without leaving the house.
Old Sir Shen glanced at Shen Xitong, who immediately fell silent. His look clearly showed his displeasure with her earlier attitude.
Fu Hengyi and Shen Qinglan sat on the side, watching the drama unfold. A rare spectacle - it would be too disappointing not to watch. But their unruffled composure, when seen by Shen Xitong, made her feel so frustrated she could almost cough up blood.
