Chapter 180: 180. Mr. Fu Coaxes the Baby 2 (Second Update)
Listening to Fu Hengyi’s jealous words, Shen Qinglan couldn’t help but laugh and cry, giving him a half-smiling look, "You’ve had quite a few rotten peaches too, and there’s still one fluttering before my eyes."
Fu Hengyi was silenced, although Shen Xitong was not someone he had actively pursued, she indeed annoyed him.
"Wife, can I take it that you are jealous?" Fu Hengyi asked.
Shen Qinglan raised an eyebrow, "What do you think?"
Mr. Fu smiled, "I think so, but," his tone changed, "My dear, rest assured, I am yours, yours alone. I don’t even glance at those other flashy tramps outside. If you dislike them, feel free to grab scissors and cut them out, I would wholeheartedly agree." Fu Hengyi spoke solemnly, even ready to hand Shen Qinglan a pair of scissors.
"Oh? You wouldn’t feel heartbroken?" Shen Qinglan glanced at him sideways. Fu Hengyi’s slick talk was rare, but it had a charm of its own, making Shen Qinglan’s heart skip a beat.
Fu Hengyi lowered his head and kissed her lips briefly before shifting slightly, "I only feel heartache for you." Then, he deepened the kiss.
Ever since discovering a new position last night, Mr. Fu had been restless, and now with his beloved in his arms, he could no longer restrain himself.
Shen Qinglan did not refuse; he would return to the army in a few days, and it would be a long time before she could see him again. Shen Qinglan, reluctant to refuse, wrapped her arms around his neck, responding to his kiss.
The temperature in the bedroom gradually rose...
In the middle of the night, Shen Qinglan vaguely heard some crying. She opened her eyes, and Fu Hengyi was already out of bed, "You keep sleeping, I’ll go check."
Hearing this, Shen Qinglan lay down again. Fu Hengyi put on a coat and walked out of the bedroom.
The crying came from the adjacent guest room where Little Douding was sleeping. By the time he arrived, Aunt Zhao and Fu Jingtong were already there.
"What happened?" Fu Hengyi asked.
In Fu Jingtong’s arms, Little Douding nestled while Aunt Zhao was tidying up the bed, "Nothing serious, just a child wetting the bed. We’ll just change the blanket and all will be fine. Hengyi, go back to sleep; we’re here."
Curling in Fu Jingtong’s embrace, Little Douding sobbed softly, wrapped in a towel, probably having changed out of his dirty clothes. Seeing Fu Hengyi enter, Little Douding looked over, his face falling upon not seeing Shen Qinglan.
"Uncle... Auntie, where is she?"
"She is already asleep," Fu Hengyi said softly.
"I... hic... I want to sleep with Auntie," Little Douding’s face was covered in tears, his big eyes damp and red from recent crying, his cheeks flushed.
Fu Hengyi was about to refuse but changed his mind upon seeing that little face, "Alright." He reached out and took Little Douding from Fu Jingtong’s arms.
"Has he had a bath?" he asked Aunt Zhao.
Aunt Zhao nodded, "Yes, your aunt took him to bathe." She also pointed to the nightstand, "His clothes are there, you can dress him."
Fu Hengyi went over, dressed him, and then carried him back to his bedroom. Shen Qinglan wasn’t asleep, and upon seeing the two, especially Little Douding’s red eyes, she couldn’t help but ask, "Did you have a nightmare?"
"He wet the bed," Fu Hengyi said, looking at the child in his arms with a hint of disdain, embarrassed at his age.
But years later, whenever their treasure occasionally produced an abstract piece for Mr. Fu, despite dutifully changing the clean sheets and washing the dirty ones, he hardly remembered that once he had disdained a three-year-old child for wetting the bed.
Little Douding hung his head, seemingly embarrassed and reluctant to look at Shen Qinglan, "Auntie, I didn’t mean to. I just... drank too much milk at night."
Before bed, Fu Jingtong had given Little Douding a big glass of milk. Typically, Pei Yinong would have him wear a diaper, and though it was packed in his little suitcase today, Pei Yinong forgot to mention it to Fu Hengyi and Shen Qinglan.
Not having children themselves, they were unaware of such needs, leading to this oversight.
Shen Qinglan didn’t mind though. Children wetting the bed was quite normal, she knew, even though she had never raised children herself.
Pat the bed, "Come here."
Little Douding, barefoot, wasn’t put down by Fu Hengyi; instead he was placed directly on the bed. He crawled over and lay down next to Shen Qinglan, "Auntie, I won’t wet the bed anymore."
Shen Qinglan smiled tenderly and caressed his smiling face, "Auntie knows, go to sleep."
Not sure if it was because he was lying next to Shen Qinglan, but Little Douding fell asleep quickly, although Mr. Fu struggled, wanting to hold his wife but with a little guy in between.
In his heart, he regretted it. He must have been out of his mind to agree to let Little Douding sleep with them. With a stifled heart, Mr. Fu lay there, eyes staring at the ceiling, speechless.
The rest of the night passed uneventfully.
Fu Hengyi woke up early the next morning and subconsciously wanted to embrace the person beside him. He realized something felt off, opened his eyes, and found it was Little Douding.
He was facing Little Douding’s little bottom.
Fu Hengyi’s expression turned slightly green, especially seeing Little Douding’s hand placed on Shen Qinglan’s chest. Ice formed in his gaze, and his face turned as black as the bottom of a pot.
He reached over, pulled Little Douding out from Shen Qinglan’s embrace. With this move, Shen Qinglan woke up. Seeing his action, she said, "What are you doing? Be careful not to wake him."
Fu Hengyi glanced at the sleeping, drooling child, "He won’t wake up." Although he said this, his hands unconsciously lightened their touch, he adjusted Little Douding’s sleeping posture and covered him well with the blanket. Only after making sure he wouldn’t catch a cold, did he look towards Shen Qinglan.
"Getting up?"
Shen Qinglan picked up her phone to check the time and nodded, "Mhmm."
The couple got up, washed up, changed into sports attire, and went out together.
Both had a habit of morning exercise. Whenever Fu Hengyi was off from work and at home, they often ran together.
Initially, Fu Hengyi was surprised by Shen Qinglan’s stamina, whether he sped up or slowed down, she could keep up with ease, breathing steady. The first time he saw this, Fu Hengyi had asked her about it.
At that time, Shen Qinglan simply glanced at him and replied, "My grandpa was a soldier, and he trained me after I came back."
When they returned from their run, they brought home a big bunch of breakfast, bumping into Fu Jingting who had just finished washing up. She yawned, upset by Little Douding wetting the bed last night which woke her, and she hadn’t been able to fall back asleep since, feeling very tired.
"Oh, you guys are back from running?" Seeing the breakfast in their hands, Fu Jingting exclaimed in surprise.
Shen Qinglan smiled, "Auntie, come have breakfast, we bought your favorite Huang Shengji pancakes."
Fu Jingting glanced sideways, remembering Huang Shengji was a full five kilometers away, making it a round trip of ten kilometers. Had these two run there? Observing their fresh and sweat-free appearance, Fu Jingting shook her head internally, impressed by their great stamina.
"It’s Shen Qinglan who’s thoughtful; Hengyi never used to buy me pancakes," Fu Jingting said teasingly as she walked into the dining room.
Old Sir Fu also came downstairs, and the family sat in the dining room for breakfast.
Aunt Zhao brought out bowls and chopsticks from the kitchen. On her way back, Shen Qinglan had already called Aunt Zhao, asking her not to make breakfast today.
"Is Haohao still sleeping?" Fu Jingting asked, sipping some soy milk.
Fu Hengyi nodded, "Bought him a bowl of porridge, will just add an egg later."
"Is his family coming to pick him up today, or will he stay a few more days?"
"They will come to pick him up today." As they were speaking, a small figure appeared on the stairs and ran into the living room, "Auntie, why didn’t you call me when you got up?"
Probably just learning how to dress himself, Little Douding’s clothes were in a mess. Fu Jingting stood up and straightened out his clothes for him.
He kissed his face, loving the soft and tender touch, "Haohao, why did you wake up so early?"
Little Douding rubbed his eyes, still sleepy, probably not enough sleep, "Aunt disappeared so I got up."
Fu Jingtong chuckled, this child was really attached to Shen Qinglan, you would think he was Qinglan’s own child.
"Haohao, do you want breakfast?" Shen Qinglan asked.
Little Douding nodded, then shook his head, "I haven’t brushed my teeth yet, Mom says I can’t have breakfast without brushing."
Fu Jingtong chuckled, picked him up, "Come on, Aunt will take you to brush your teeth, your Aunt bought you some tasty porridge, we’ll go drink porridge after we brush."
Aunt Zhao got up and went into the kitchen to prepare porridge for Little Douding, and then boiled an egg.
As Little Douding was drinking his porridge, the doorbell rang, Aunt Zhao got up to answer it, and saw a strange woman at the door, looking puzzled, "May I ask who you are looking for?"
Pei Yinong spoke gently, "I’m here to see Qinglan, I’m her cousin."
Hearing this, Aunt Zhao knew, this must be Little Douding’s mother, taking a careful look, there was indeed some resemblance to Little Douding.
She moved aside, "Please come in."
"Thank you."
"Mom, why did you come so early?" Little Douding, who was holding his spoon and drinking his porridge, saw who came in, and pouted his lips.
Pei Yinong chuckled, thinking he was complaining about her coming too early, this cheeky kid, having an aunt means you can abandon your mom, just who was it that carried him for ten months?
"I suppose if I hadn’t come, you wouldn’t be planning to return home, would you?" Pei Yinong said irritably.
Then she saw Old Sir Fu and Aunt Fu, "Grandpa Fu, sorry for the disturbance. Aunt Fu, long time no see."
Fu Jingtong certainly knew Pei Yinong, they had played at the Fu Family’s house when they were younger, but had not seen each other for many years.
"You must be Yinong, it’s been so many years, I could hardly recognize you. Have you had breakfast?"
"I’ve already eaten, thank you, Aunt Fu." She placed the things she was carrying onto a chair nearby, "Grandpa Fu, these are some foods my parents asked me to bring for you to try."
Old Sir Fu smiled kindly, "It’s good to see you, why bring so much stuff."
"Just some homemade things, my mom likes to experiment with these when she has some free time, try them, they taste good."
"Your mom is thoughtful."
Everyone else had finished their meals, leaving only Little Douding. Although he was slow, he had impeccable table manners and kept the table clean.
Pei Yinong waited for them in the living room, and when Little Douding finished his meal, he finally remembered his mom and snuggled into her arms, negotiating, "Mom, Aunt’s home is so fun, Great Grandpa is so interesting, and Uncle tells me stories. Can I not go home today?
Pei Yinong smiled, "You’ve already stayed at your Aunt’s for a night and caused them quite a bit of trouble, and you still want to stay longer, how embarrassing."
She turned sheepishly towards Old Sir Fu, "Grandpa Fu, I’m really sorry, this boy is shameless, please don’t mind."
Old Sir Fu laughed heartily, "Haohao is very adorable, we all like him a lot, he can stay as long as he likes."
Fu Jingtong also chimed in, "Exactly, we don’t have any children, having a child around livens things up. Haohao is lively and cute; we couldn’t ask for more."
Little Douding grinned proudly, "Look, Mom, I’m not a bother at all, Great Grandpa and everyone like me, Aunt too, I even slept with my Aunt last night. I want to stay here today too."
"But you have your own home, you can’t always stay at Aunt’s place, today you must go back with mommy," Pei Yinong explained patiently to Little Douding.
"Why," Little Douding was a bit reluctant, "I don’t want to go home."
"Mommy is leaving today, won’t you see her off?" Pei Yinong, seeing his son’s reluctance, could only bring out the big guns.
"Sister, weren’t you supposed to leave on the tenth? Why do you have to leave today?" Shen Qinglan was puzzled; Pei Yinong had previously mentioned leaving on the tenth.
"I received a sudden notice requiring me to report earlier, hence, I disturbing you early this morning," Pei Yinong explained.
Little Douding didn’t have time to be upset about not being able to stay there longer, clutching at the front of Pei Yinong’s clothes, "Mommy, are you really leaving today?"
Pei Yinong patted her son’s head, "Yes, so Haohao, will you see mommy off?"
Probably because he couldn’t bear it, Little Douding’s eyes reddened, tears swirling in his eyes, "Mommy, can you take Haohao with you?"
After all, he was her own flesh and blood; she truly couldn’t bear to part with him when it came time to leave.
Pei Yinong’s nose tingled with sourness, "Didn’t we agree, Haohao will live with grandma, a man must keep his word?"
Little Douding stopped talking, bowing his head and silently shedding tears.
His appearance made Fu Jingtong feel very sympathetic, and she spoke earnestly, "Yinong, are you going to work abroad with your husband? Haohao is still young, it’s better to take him along; it’s always best for children to grow up with their parents."
Old Sir Fu had heard about the child’s situation and glanced at his daughter but didn’t say anything, as it was normal for Fu Jingtong, who mostly lived abroad, to not know.
"Aunt Fu, I’m not married; Haohao was born out of wedlock," Pei Yinong said with a slight smile, her demeanor tranquil.
Fu Jingtong was quite embarrassed, she hadn’t expected the situation to be like this, "Oh, Yinong, I’m sorry."
Pei Yinong, on the other hand, was more open-minded, "It’s alright, everyone in Beijing knows about this, I have nothing to hide. Actually, I am quite thankful to that man for giving me such a wonderful gift."
Little Douding couldn’t understand the adults’ conversation, immersed in his own sorrow, and Pei Yinong didn’t try to console him. After chatting with a few people for a while, she stood up to say goodbye.
"Won’t you stay a bit longer?" Fu Jingtong asked, trying to keep her.
"No, I still have a lot of things to take care of at home, I’ll visit Grandpa Fu and Aunt Fu another time. Haohao, say goodbye to great grandpa and grandma."
Little Douding had stopped crying, but his mood was still low. Upon hearing his mom’s words, he looked up, "Great grandpa, grandma, goodbye, Aunt, Uncle, goodbye."
Old Sir Fu chuckled, "Goodbye Haohao, come and visit often."
Little Douding nodded, waved to everyone, and followed Pei Yinong out.
Fu Hengyi watched them leave, silently heaving a sigh of relief that they had finally left. He stealthily glanced at Shen Qinglan’s flat belly and silently vowed that they absolutely couldn’t have children so soon. Such a high-wattage light bulb was hard to pretend to not see; it would be best to wait another five or six years.
If Old Sir Fu knew what Fu Hengyi was thinking, he would surely be furious enough to spit blood. "I’m in my eighties, not many good years left, I just want to hold a great-grandchild and enjoy the blessing of having four generations under one roof before I die. And here you are, wanting to wait another five or six years. By then, who knows if I’ll be alive or dead? Are you trying to anger me to death?"
With Little Douding gone, the house instantly felt quieter, "A house really livens up with a child around," Old Sir Fu lamented, while glancing unintentionally at Shen Qinglan’s belly, slightly regretful.
His grandson had already discussed with him; they didn’t plan to have children for the next couple of years, to wait for another two years instead. Old Sir Fu knew Shen Qinglan was still young and hence he understood.
Fu Hengyi smiled slightly but didn’t pick up Old Sir Fu’s hint.
He spent the morning accompanying Old Sir Fu at home, and in the afternoon, Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi went out.
It was already the eighth; most shops on the street had opened. This time, they didn’t go shopping, but instead went to a film set. Shen Qinglan hadn’t seen Yu Xiaoxuan for a while and planned to visit her on set. Naturally, Fu Hengyi went wherever his wife went.
