The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife -
Chapter 165. Annual Meeting 4
Chapter 165: 165. Annual Meeting 4
His figure was very tall; even wearing high heels, she had to tilt her head slightly to see his expression clearly.
At this moment, his face did not wear the usual warm smile but was composed and serene, which, in this state, bore a slight resemblance to Shen Qinglan’s usual demeanor.
"Did you attend the annual meeting just because of that man?" Shen Junyu looked down at her, his eyes indifferent.
Not liking being looked at in this way, Fang Tong took a step back to distance herself from Shen Junyu. Thinking of his words, her eyes darkened. So, he had heard everything just now? How long had he been standing here, and how much of the conversation had he overheard?
Seemingly guessing what she was thinking, Shen Junyu spoke lightly, "I saw everything I should and shouldn’t have seen."
Upon hearing this, Fang Tong stiffened, her expression somewhat annoyed, "I didn’t expect Young Master Shen to have a hobby of peeping."
"I wasn’t peeping; I was watching openly and honestly," Shen Junyu replied plainly. He had come downstairs to look for Shen Qinglan after she had been absent for a long while, and that’s when he happened to witness this little drama unfold on the deck.
He had no impression of that man; by all appearances, he must be this girl’s boyfriend. The little girl was pretty, but her judgement in people seemed to be lacking.
Fortunately for Young Master Shen, these were only thoughts in his mind—if Fang Tong knew what he really thought, she would be even more depressed.
Annoyed by Shen Junyu’s words, Fang Tong snatched the jacket from her shoulders and threw it into his arms, "Thanks for Young Master Shen’s jacket, I’m not cold anymore."
But as soon as she finished speaking, she sneezed three times in succession, her body involuntarily shivering. Why was the deck so cold, and how had she managed to stay out here for so long?
There seemed to be a trace of helplessness on Shen Junyu’s face as he picked up the jacket and draped it over her, looking at Fang Tong as if she were a capricious child, "I told you you’d catch a cold, but you didn’t listen."
Fang Tong, irritated by his child-instructing tone, rolled her eyes and tried to take off the jacket from her shoulders, but he held her hand firmly, "Don’t joke around with your health."
Fang Tong met his gaze, then suddenly paused, loosening her grip and allowing him to wrap the jacket tighter around her.
Shen Junyu’s eyes swept involuntarily over her cheek, then suddenly, he raised his hand to touch her cheek, brushing gently against it before pulling away.
"There was something dirty on your face," Shen Junyu said, his tone gentle.
Fang Tong was slightly startled, "Thank... thank you." She was quite uncomfortable with Shen Junyu’s sudden change in attitude.
"Where’s Lanlan?" Not wanting the person before him to feel awkward, Shen Junyu shifted the topic.
"Qinglan should still be inside, I’ll give her a call."
"No need, I’ll go in and find her in a bit, the deck is cold. You should go inside too."
This time Fang Tong didn’t refuse and obediently went inside.
Shen Junyu followed her inside, confirming her location before starting to look for Shen Qinglan; he did not search the crowd but instead looked towards the corners, and sure enough, he quickly found Shen Qinglan.
Approaching, he realized that Shen Qinglan seemed to be talking to a woman who had her back to him, wearing a fiery red evening gown, her face not visible. Before he got too close, she left.
Shen Junyu glanced at the departing woman’s figure, "Who was that?"
"A friend, I didn’t expect to bump into them here and just chat for a bit," Shen Qinglan spoke casually, and Shen Junyu didn’t think much of it.
Shen Junyu did not ask further and pointed towards the direction where Fang Tong was, "Your friend is waiting there for you, go join her. The raffle is about to start, don’t wander off."
Worried that Shen Qinglan wouldn’t obey, Shen Junyu took her hand and walked her out towards where Fang Tong was.
As Shen Qinglan followed the pull of Shen Junyu’s hand, they quietly made their way out from the corner, drawing no attention from anyone.
"Fang Tong." Shen Qinglan reached Fang Tong’s side, gave her a glance, and unsure whether she had seen Ding Minghui.
However, it was Fang Tong who spoke up first, "I saw him. He explained everything to me, Qinglan, I’m fine."
Shen Qinglan, hearing this, didn’t ask further but instead inquired, "Where’s Xiao Xuan?"
Fang Tong smiled, pointing in a certain direction. Following her gesture, Shen Qinglan spotted Yu Xiaoxuan holding a plate, grabbing food in the buffet area, her cheeks puffed up, probably still chewing on something.
Shen Qinglan found it amusing. Here was a genuine foodie, never forgetting to eat no matter where she went.
**
The banquet hall lights dimmed, and the presenter made his way to the front, microphone in hand.
"Now we’ve come to the most exciting part of the evening... the raffle," the presenter babbled on stage, while Shen Qinglan listened below, utterly bored. Fang Tong, however, held a glass of champagne and listened to the quiet gossip of the women nearby about Shen Junyu who was standing up front.
One of the women ogled at the back of Shen Junyu, her eyes dreamy, "Our CEO is still so charming, the more you look, the more enchanting he becomes, even his silhouette is so captivating."
Her companion looked at her disdainfully, "Wipe that drool from the corner of your mouth," then turned her gaze to Shen Junyu. Although it wasn’t obvious, her tone was full of admiration, "Our CEO is outstanding, of course. How else could someone so young create such an empire? And he’s a scion of the Shen Family, excellent family background, yet he doesn’t act like those rich second-generation brats who just live off their parents and don’t do proper work."
They were speaking softly, but since they were so close, not only did Fang Tong hear them, even Shen Qinglan did. Shen Qinglan looked up at Shen Junyu and laughed. She just couldn’t imagine what it would be like if her brother was a spoiled brat, especially when she recalled Granny Shen saying how Shen Junyu had been mischievous as a child and often felt grandpa’s whip.
Old Sir Shen had a whip, a trophy gained from bandits during war times, which had been kept for many years as a part of the Shen family’s discipline. If the children misbehaved, they would feel that whip—not only had Shen Junyu experienced it, but so had Shen Qian.
Old Sir Shen was a soldier, and naturally, when he punished, he showed no mercy. Granny Shen once said that the worst time Shen Junyu was beaten, he couldn’t leave the bed for half a month, causing his mother Chu Yunrong to cry in distress.
Shen Junyu as a child wasn’t the steady figure you see now. He was very mischievous, always getting into trouble with the children in the courtyard, so getting punished was a regular occurrence.
However, after Shen Qinglan was kidnapped by human traffickers, Shen Junyu seemed to grow up overnight, no longer fighting or causing trouble, and he never felt the sting of Old Sir Shen’s whip again.
Probably among the younger generation of the Shen Family, only she and Shen Xitong, the two girls, had never been beaten by Old Sir Shen.
The two girls in front were still chatting, "I heard there’s a special lucky draw tonight, the winner will get to dance the opening dance with the CEO."
The other girl’s face lit up with surprise, "Really?"
"Absolutely, I heard it from the planning department."
That basically confirmed the news, and the two girls were thrilled.
