Chapter 140: 140. Unexpected Encounter with Shen Xitong (Second Update)
Shen Xitong adjusted her skirt and pulled out a small mirror to check her reflection; She coaxed a smile onto her face, and as she walked out, she resumed the poise of a famed genteel lady.
The dinner was at the Shen Family home. Shen Xitong had called her family earlier, saying she was having dinner with friends and wouldn’t be returning home. Chu Yunrong didn’t ask further. However, Shen Qian actually stepped into the home just before dinner.
Seeing Shen Qian’s return surprised everyone. Chu Yunrong, seeing her husband, was overjoyed, "Qian, why didn’t you call ahead today?"
Shen Qian smiled warmly, his demeanor still gentle despite his years as a soldier. He was much like Shen Junyu in temperament, though Junyu, beneath his gentle exterior, possessed a hint of a merchant’s cunning.
"Father." Fu Hengyi and Shen Qinglan called out together. Shen Qian responded with a smile.
"Uncle Fu." Shen Qian greeted Old Sir Fu respectfully and then turned to greet Old Sir Shen.
"Let’s eat first." Old Sir Shen suggested.
As the family sat down to eat, Shen Qian noticed the absences. "Where are Jun Yu and Xitong?"
"Jun Yu is working overtime tonight, and Xitong said she had dinner plans with friends and wouldn’t be coming back," Chu Yunrong answered.

Charming Color VIP Room.
The Eldest Young Master Shen, who was reportedly working overtime, was actually playing mahjong with a few people.
"Man, I must say your sister is really impressive, that move she pulled off was so cool," said Han Yi, discarding a tile and laughing. He had seen the news reports and the online videos, and after watching them, he truly viewed Shen Qinglan with new respect—no wonder she was personally trained by Old Sir Shen; her skills were sharp and effective.
Shen Junyu’s face darkened, and he gave Han Yi a cold look, "If you don’t have anything to say, don’t talk."
Han Yi appeared confused, "What’s with you today, did you eat gunpowder?"
Shen Junyu remained silent again.
Present were also the brothers Gu Yang and Gu Kai; Jiang Chenxi had classes the next day and wasn’t there.
Gu Yang and Gu Kai kept mostly silent, especially the usually talkative Gu Yang. His silence tonight was notably out of character, and after being rebuffed by Shen Junyu, Han Yi turned to Gu Yang only to notice his unusual quiet.
"Yang, you’re off today too."
Gu Yang responded, "How am I off? I’m fine."
Han Yi shook his head, "No, if it were the usual you, this room would be filled with your voice. Why so quiet today? It’s not like you."
"Don’t make me out to be a chatterbox," Gu Yang rolled his eyes.
Han Yi: ...Aren’t you though?
It wasn’t just Gu Yang who seemed off; Gu Kai was too. They had only found out today from videos that Fu Hengyi had returned. Although the video mainly featured Shen Qinglan, and Fu Hengyi was only seen in profile, Gu Yang and Gu Kai had still recognized him.
Thinking of the last time they dragged Shen Qinglan to a car race, which had caused trouble with Shi Feng’s people and led to a fight, their hearts were especially uneasy. However, Gu Kai usually kept a cold face and did not like talking, which was why Han Yi hadn’t noticed anything unusual.
If Fu Hengyi found out what they had done with Shen Qinglan, he would have skinned them alive. How could they then marvel at Shen Qinglan’s courageous deeds? Moreover, they had already witnessed Shen Qinglan’s skills at the racetrack last time.
Both of them were distracted all day long, eager to know if Fu Hengyi had found out, but neither dared to call and ask, fearing that if he didn’t already know, such a call would be a direct confession.
"Are you really okay?" Han Yi asked suspiciously, feeling that Gu Yang seemed a bit off that night.
"What could possibly be wrong with me?" Gu Yang rolled his eyes and threw down a card.
"I’ve won," declared Shen Junyu. Gu Yang’s face stiffened as he turned to the playing table, only to realize he had just completed Shen Junyu’s full suit in mahjong.
Han Yi shot him a "you still say you’re fine?" look.
After two games, Shen Junyu’s mood had not improved at all, especially with the two distracted fellows at the table. He pushed the mahjong tiles aside and declared, "I’m done playing."
He pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and began to blow smoke heavily, his face buried in the smoke, faintly visible through the vapor.
Han Yi felt that suggesting to play mahjong tonight had been a mistake and lost the mood to continue. He, like Shen Junyu, picked up a cigarette, put it in his mouth, but did not light it.
Shen Junyu smoked a cigarette and stepped outside, claiming he was going to the restroom. Han Yi glanced at the restroom inside their private room, smirked, but remained silent.
"It seems our Eldest Young Master Shen is troubled by worldly concerns," Han Yi speculated that Shen Junyu’s unusual behavior that evening was because of a woman, and indeed it was, but not in the way he thought.
The Shen Family had strict rules; although Shen Junyu had been immersed in the business world for many years and had many beautiful women pursuing him, he had never been involved in any scandals, and no woman had ever appeared by his side.
Gu Yang and Gu Kai were preoccupied with whether Fu Hengyi knew what had happened, having no interest in joining Han Yi’s gossip. After talking to himself for a while, Han Yi found it boring and left the private room as well. He headed down to the bar to grab a drink.

At the bar downstairs, Yu Xiaoxuan, having some rare free time, wanted to go out. She initially thought of calling Shen Qinglan, but knowing that Fu Hengyi had just returned and the couple seldom met, she didn’t want to disturb them. Instead, she called Fang Tong, but this woman was out on a date with her boyfriend.
Yu Xiaoxuan didn’t want to hang out with anyone else, so she went to the bar alone. While at the bar, she had the misfortune of running into Shen Xitong.
After dinner, Shen Xitong and a group of friends had decided to hit the bar. Now back in the country and planning to develop her career domestically, she naturally needed to build good relationships with Beijing’s wealthy young elite—her future connections.
Her status as part of the Shen Family commanded a certain respect, authenticated or not; everyone, for the sake of the Shen Family, would show her some deference.
Yu Xiaoxuan was sitting at the bar when Shen Xitong arrived and spotted her. Remembering how Shen Qinglan had humiliated her in front of everyone at the estate, Shen Xitong’s eyes darted around before walking over to Yu Xiaoxuan.
"Isn’t this my sister’s friend? What was your name again?" she tilted her head, feigning effort to remember, "Sorry, I have a bad memory for names of people who aren’t from our circle."
With that remark, the three or four people who had come with her understood immediately: this girl did not get along well with Shen Xitong, and furthermore, this girl’s origins were humble.
They were all daughters and sons of officials or merchants from Beijing, none of whom could rival Shen Xitong’s status, and naturally, they all followed her lead.
