Chapter 136: 136. Shopping Mall Horror 3 (Second Update)

"How are you considering the matter I mentioned?" Shen Qinglan ignored the police and spoke to the man wielding the knife.

"Fine, you come here, I agree to the hostage exchange, but I have one condition, have these people back off," Shen Qinglan, who had not been very hopeful, paused upon hearing the man’s words, and looked towards the lead officer.

"Officer, please take your men and step back a bit," Shen Qinglan said to the one in charge.

Upon hearing this, the lead officer glanced at Shen Qinglan, his eyes filled with slight contempt and annoyance, "Young lady, don’t cause trouble here."

His tone was very impatient, the situation was already complicated enough, and this young lady was only adding to the chaos.

"Officer, please, save my wife," the pregnant woman’s husband pleaded excitedly, grabbing the officer’s sleeve.

The officer did not shake off his grip, and softened his expression, saying, "We will definitely save your wife, you wait over to the side."

"What happened here?" A deep, magnetic voice came from outside the crowd, carrying an imposing presence. Shen Qinglan was startled.

The crowd parted, revealing Fu Hengyi’s figure in Shen Qinglan’s line of sight. He did not look at Shen Qinglan, but glanced at the store; upon seeing the situation inside, his brows furrowed, realizing the complexity of the matter.

"What’s going on here?" Fu Hengyi asked the officer in a low voice. The officer was initially impatient, but upon seeing the military ID that Fu Hengyi pulled from his pocket, he respectfully explained the general situation in a low voice. Towards the end, Shen Qinglan could even feel the officer’s gaze landing on her, probably telling Fu Hengyi about her intention to become a hostage.

Then, Shen Qinglan distinctly felt a sharp gaze settle upon her.

"Move it, have these cops back off, or I’ll kill this woman," the knife-wielding man yelled irritably, seeing the police not moving for a long time.

Shen Qinglan noticed, however, that red liquid had already started flowing from the pregnant woman’s leg. If she wasn’t taken to the hospital soon, it would truly become a case of two lives lost.

She stepped forward, only to be caught by the arm by Fu Hengyi. Looking up into Fu Hengyi’s dark eyes, there was nothing but pitch blackness, his emotions unreadable.

Shen Qinglan looked him squarely in the eyes, clearly conveying that she would be fine.

Fu Hengyi looked away, not wanting to see her, yet he let go of her hand.

"Do as he says, move back," Fu Hengyi said in a stern voice, his expression very dark.

The officer was taken aback, "Commander, this..."

Fu Hengyi repeated, "Move back."

His presence was overbearing, and now, with a stern face, he was even more intimidating. The officer waved his hand, and the police stepped back.

"The police have moved back, now I’m coming over, keep your word and release her," Shen Qinglan said to the knife-wielding man. Her tone was calm, showing no signs of nervousness.

"You come here first," the man with the Sharp Blade watched the police closely behind her, his knife-holding hand pressed against the pregnant woman’s artery, without shifting in the slightest.

Shen Qinglan moved her feet, slowly approaching the man with the Sharp Blade. Behind her, Fu Hengyi stared intently at her, his hands tightly clenched. He actually could have stopped Shen Qinglan from doing this, but in that instant, when he met Shen Qinglan’s eyes, Fu Hengyi couldn’t quite describe the feeling in his heart, and he just let her go.

Everyone present was watching Shen Qinglan as she walked steadily and firmly toward the knife-wielding man.

The knife-wielding man was watching Shen Qinglan closely, too. Seeing that she wasn’t carrying anything in her hands, he felt a bit relieved. However, his grip on the knife did not relax for even a moment, his eyes still bloodshot, clearly still agitated.

The pain on the pregnant woman’s face deepened, and her forehead was covered in large beads of sweat. Her clothes in front were soaked with sweat, and her hands were cradling her belly. The blood on her legs was flowing more and more, and a small pool had begun to form on the ground.

"Has someone called 120 (emergency services)?" Fu Hengyi asked. He hadn’t expected that just going downstairs to drop off an item, on returning he’d see Shen Qinglan volunteering to be a hostage. At that moment, even though he knew she would be fine, Fu Hengyi couldn’t help but feel angry that she seemed to disregard her own safety completely.

The police officer was momentarily confused and didn’t catch what Fu Hengyi said, but a bystander did and replied, "Someone already called for emergency services just now; they should be arriving shortly."

It wasn’t a great distance, and Shen Qinglan walked up to the knife-wielding man. "I’m here, let her go."

But the knife-wielding man didn’t move. Instead, he looked at the police. "You, move back further, you too, the one with the gun, throw it on the ground."

The officer hesitated; they were already somewhat distant from the man. Close combat wasn’t quick enough, and rescuing the hostage would only be possible by shooting to control the man in the split second of exchanging the hostage. Without the gun...

"Do as he says," Fu Hengyi spoke slowly, his grip tightening once again as his gaze locked onto Shen Qinglan’s back, not daring to shift away in the slightest.

Following his command, the officer, along with his subordinates, retreated several more steps and placed his gun at his feet. If he moved fast enough, he would still have the chance to shoot.

"You, come here," the knife-wielding man said, looking at the police, but his words were directed at Shen Qinglan.

The pregnant woman also looked at Shen Qinglan with hope in her eyes.

Shen Qinglan tugged the corner of her mouth, giving the pregnant woman a reassuring look, and approached the knife-wielding man.

The man moved the knife from the woman’s neck. Shen Qinglan’s eyes flashed; now was the moment.

Suddenly, her steps quickened, and in an instant, she was behind the knife-wielding man. With a twist of her wrist, accompanied by a crack and the man’s pained scream, the bloody Sharp Blade fell to the ground.

Shen Qinglan twisted her arm, and the knife-wielding man’s hand was caught behind his back, the knife-holding hand now hanging limply by his side.

In just a few seconds, the once fierce felon was subdued with a few moves by Shen Qinglan, leaving everyone but Fu Hengyi stunned in place.

The pregnant woman hadn’t yet realized she was out of danger when she collapsed, clutching her belly. Shen Qinglan’s face fell; she couldn’t catch her in time. With her falling face-down like that, the child...

But then a figure flashed by, and Fu Hengyi caught the pregnant woman just a second before she hit the ground. Her husband finally reacted, scrambling over to take her into his arms from Fu Hengyi’s.

The other police officers reacted, too. The officer picked up his handgun from the ground, rushed over, and handcuffed the knife-wielding man.

Just then, medical personnel arrived at the scene, but upon seeing the blood everywhere, they were momentarily unsure of what to do.

"Save the pregnant woman first; her amniotic fluid is already gone," Shen Qinglan said with a grave voice.
