Chapter 134: 134. Shopping Mall Horror 1 (Fourth Watch)
"Slap." Before Shen Qinglan could speak, Zheng Feng slapped Wu Qian across the face, causing her to stagger.
Wu Qian steadied herself and looked at Zheng Feng incredulously. She had taken his side, yet he had struck her.
Only after Wu Qian stood straight did Shen Qinglan clearly see her face—her cheek quickly swelled, and the imprint of five fingers was distinct, showing Zheng Feng had shown no mercy in his blow.
Although Shen Qinglan disliked men who hit women, she felt no sympathy for Wu Qian, who surely had her own faults to blame.
"Miss Shen, Mr. Fu, Wu Qian is ignorant. I’ve already disciplined her, and I will strictly supervise her once we return. Please be magnanimous and do not hold this against her," Zheng Feng said earnestly.
"Why did you hit me? Did I say something wrong? What about the Shen Family? Can the Shen Family disregard people? And yet they claim to be nobility," Wu Qian retorted, unwilling to take this lying down. Especially recently, the old man had been at her beck and call, which only inflated her temper. Now that she had been hit, she immediately started to raise a fuss.
The moment Zheng Feng struck her, he had drawn everyone’s attention. Luckily, the restaurant was located in the most secluded area, and there were few onlookers due to the small waiting crowd.
Before Wu Qian could finish, Zheng Feng’s expression changed drastically. Seeing Fu Hengyi’s increasingly stern face, sweat broke out on his forehead as he immediately regretted choosing such a woman who not only failed to assist him but might also ruin him completely. He had completely forgotten it was because of Wu Qian that he had met Shen Qinglan, and had once been proud to have connections with the Shen Family.
"Shut your mouth, or get out," Zheng Feng growled, his eyes filled with warning.
Wu Qian flinched, realizing he was not joking, and reluctantly closed her mouth.
Wu Qian fell silent, but Zheng Feng’s heart was still uneasy, especially under Fu Hengyi’s cold gaze.
Although Fu Hengyi hadn’t said a word throughout the ordeal, his presence was the most intimidating.
After all, the Fu Family was the top noble family in Beijing, even more prestigious and influential than the Shen Family. And he had heard that Shen Qinglan was Fu Hengyi’s wife.
Zheng Feng wiped the sweat off his forehead with his sleeve, his back drenched in sweat despite the cold weather.
"Mr. Fu, Miss Shen, today’s fault lies entirely with me. I shall visit another day to apologize. I hope you won’t hold this against us."
His tone was even more humble and his manner more earnest.
"No need for a visit. Just make sure in the future to choose a wise woman who can help advance your career, not a foolish one..." The implication was clear without being fully stated.
Zheng Feng nodded repeatedly and, only after receiving a nod from Fu Hengyi, did he drag the disheveled Wu Qian away.
As soon as they left the sight of Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi, Zheng Feng let go of Wu Qian and looked at her with disgust. "A talentless idiot, good for nothing but trouble. I don’t want to see you ever again."
If it weren’t for the crowd around them, he would have given her another harsh lesson.
Wu Qian fell to the ground in a sorry state, her eyes filled with venom as she watched Zheng Feng’s departing back. That pathetic old man, she glanced upstairs once more, Shen Qinglan, wait for it. One day, I will make you pay.
In the bustling mall, noticing the stares of the crowd, Wu Qian lowered her head and covered her face with her bag, leaving the mall.
"I didn’t expect the lady to have such a surprisingly combative side." After the people left, Fu Hengyi said with a smile, his tone teasing, nowhere near the stern expression he had held moments earlier.
Shen Qinglan gave him a cold glance and remained silent.
Soon it was their turn, and both of them seemed unaffected by the recent event, thoroughly enjoying their lunch with great moods before resting for a while, and then they started shopping for the elderly members of their family.
There were too many items, and Shen Qinglan asked Fu Hengyi to take them to the car first while she waited here. Such a small task was, of course, gladly undertaken by Mr. Fu, who instructed Qinglan to wait for him right there before heading to the parking lot with the packages.
"Ah, help, murder, someone’s killing people..." Suddenly, screams erupted nearby, and the crowd scattered in all directions.
Shen Qinglan paused, looking in the direction of the disturbance, she saw people nearby fleeing in chaos, their screams piercing the air. She grabbed a passing man by the arm, "What happened there?"
The man, nearly tripping as she pulled him to a stop, answered in a panicked tone, "Some lunatic waving a knife around chopping at people, there’s so much blood..." His voice trembled violently.
Shen Qinglan’s expression tightened as she released the man and headed towards the chaos, only to be firmly grasped by the wrist, "Don’t go there, that person is a madman, chopping at anyone he sees."
Shen Qinglan brushed off the man’s hand, her voice indifferent, "I won’t be harmed."
Crossing paths with several panic-stricken individuals, Shan Qinglan even noticed blood on one person. The screams continued, growing louder as she quickened her pace, soon getting a clear view inside.
The incident was taking place in a women’s lingerie store. Inside stood a man wielding a knife, clutching a visibly pregnant woman with a large belly, the sharp blade pressed against her throat.
A man lay at the feet of the knifeman, seemingly slashed several times with blood pooled beneath him, completely motionless, his condition unknown.
Beside this man were two female store employees, injured and groaning on the floor.
"Nobody move, or I swear I’ll stab her," the standing man yelled, his face a mask of cruelty and madness.
Shen Qinglan glanced at the knifeman, noting his youth, barely twenty-five years old, but with blood on his face and a deranged expression, he appeared menacing and dreadful.
The hostage, likely in her thirties and very pregnant, seemed close to labor. Her complexion was deathly pale, her face streaked with tears of panic.
Shen Qinglan saw that the man’s attention was directed outward while his back was to the store. The knife pressed tightly against the pregnant woman’s throat, threatening to slice her jugular with any force, making a stealthy rescue impossible. The only immediate option was to get the man’s knife away from her.
Outside the store gathered a crowd—mostly young men—and among them, a terrified man, visibly anxious and tense, stared intently at the knifeman holding the pregnant woman.
"Please, don’t hurt my wife, she’s about to give birth. Please, don’t harm her," he pleaded.
The knifeman ignored him completely, the blade on the woman’s throat unflinching, "None of you come any closer, or I swear I’ll stab her."
Consequently, the bystanders dared not make any rash moves.
