Chapter 108: 108 just don’t want you to worry (first update)
"Speak, what have you called me here for?" Zhao Dong was somewhat impatient.
Shen Qinglan looked at him, "That post on the forum was made by you, wasn’t it?"
Zhao Dong looked utterly confused, "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
Even if he had done it, as long as he didn’t admit it, Shen Qinglan couldn’t do anything to him. Besides, he hadn’t posted it from the dormitory, and no one could trace it back to him—what a joke.
"I must admit, your skills are quite impressive. Not only did you post it outside the school, but you also tampered with the IP address. However, you have forgotten one thing—there is always someone better. If you can do it, so can others, especially since the internet café’s surveillance has already recorded your actions."
This turned out to be the longest sentence Shen Qinglan had ever said to Zhao Dong, but it didn’t make Zhao Dong feel any better.
At this moment, his face looked a bit ugly. Having never experienced anything serious, just a word from Shen Qinglan made Zhao Dong lose his composure.
"Don’t think you can just accuse me by wagging your tongue. Do you have any evidence?" Zhao Dong struggled to stay calm.
Shen Qinglan half-smiled, "Whether I am talking nonsense, you know it in your heart. If I have evidence or not, you can try me. If you apologize to me now and publicly admit that you slandered me, I can let this matter go. However, if you insist that you did nothing wrong, then I will tell the principal, and the outcome will be beyond my control."
Zhao Dong’s expression changed, "So what if I did post it? If you don’t want people to know what you’ve done, don’t do it! If you had been straightforward and honest, would anyone have been able to get a hold of anything against you? I was just telling people the truth, not slandering."
Having admitted it, Zhao Dong felt relieved, looking at Shen Qinglan with undisguised scorn, "Just a used shoe that others have played with. I can’t believe I used to think of you as a goddess; I must have been blind."
"Did you see with your own eyes someone providing for me?" Shen Qinglan asked without getting angry, her tone calm.
"Who in the school doesn’t know your ordinary family background? The car that man who dropped you off was driving—could you afford it? Don’t tell me they are all just friends. In their social circle, if you didn’t offer something in return, would they bother to drive you home?"
He had seen it that day; the man in the sports car was very enthusiastic toward Shen Qinglan.
Shen Qinglan looked at him indifferently, "So you just based it on your own conjecture and posted that irresponsible post."
"Is it conjecture or fact? If it weren’t true, why would you come looking for me today?"
As far as Zhao Dong was concerned, Shen Qinglan coming to see him was because she hoped he would help clarify things. Even though the post had been deleted, many people knew about it and without anyone to clarify, Shen Qinglan would be stuck in this mire beyond redemption.
Zhao Dong didn’t regret having made that post. He wanted everyone to see the true face of Shen Qinglan, not to be deceived by her façade.
Seeing his unrepentant attitude, Shen Qinglan said nothing and just turned to leave.
Shen Qinglan had checked Zhao Dong’s background and knew that his family was not well-off. It had been a struggle for him to get into University B and his family had worked hard to support his studies. He was about to graduate, and although Shen Qinglan had wanted to give him a chance, if he didn’t want it, then she had no need to be lenient.
Before leaving, Shen Qinglan glanced knowingly at a corner not far away, but it was empty, leaving a hint of confusion in her expression.
Watching Shen Qinglan leave without saying a word, Zhao Dong was somewhat stunned. Was that it? He thought she would at least beg him, but she just left?
Shen Qinglan did not see, as she swept past that corner, a petite figure patted her chest, with a charming little face adorned with a smile, "Really, the sensitivity is still so sharp, almost got caught."
After leaving, Shen Qinglan didn’t return to her dormitory but called Fu Hengyi instead. The phone was picked up quickly, with Fu Hengyi’s warm, magnetic voice coming through.
"Qinglan."
Shen Qinglan smiled slightly, "It’s me." The subtle smile carried warmth, softening her entire features, sadly, Fu Hengyi couldn’t see it at the moment.
"Had you gone on a mission before?" Fu Hengyi’s phone had been switched off the last few days, unreachable, Shen Qinglan guessed he might have been on a mission.
Fu Hengyi silently curled his lips into a grin. Could he interpret Shen Qinglan’s words as her caring about him? "No, just participated in a military exercise. Don’t worry, I was only commanding, I wasn’t injured, nor did it aggravate any old injuries."
Shen Qinglan, hearing this, relaxed. Even though he had healed from previous injuries when he went to the army, getting hurt again could hinder his recovery.
As Shen Qinglan and Fu Hengyi chatted about their lives during this period, she deliberately avoided mentioning the recent events that had happened to her. Fu Hengyi felt a bit helpless internally, "Qinglan, you must tell me everything from now on. I am your husband, I can be your support, and you don’t need to be so strong. Whenever there’s trouble, just stand behind me, and I can help you solve it."
Shen Qinglan was silent, eyes shimmering. It wasn’t that she hadn’t thought of Fu Hengyi; it’s just that in her eyes, this scarcely counted as an issue, and she didn’t want to worry him.
"I just don’t want you to worry," Shen Qinglan explained seriously for the first time.
Fu Hengyi spoke softly, "Qinglan, keeping things from me is what worries me. Though I can’t be with you every day, if there’s an issue, I’ll make sure to appear right away. This time was an accident. Wait a few more days, I’ll come back, wait for me."
Shen Qinglan felt a surge of warmth in her heart upon hearing he would return soon. She quickly spoke up, "No, you just returned not long ago, constantly asking for leave isn’t good, I don’t want to hold you back, be your trouble."
"Qinglan, you’re never a burden to me, nor a trouble," Fu Hengyi said.
Shen Qinglan smiled slightly, it seemed she smiled more today than usual, "Hmm, I will definitely tell you everything in the future."
Fu Hengyi was satisfied at last. After chatting a bit more, Shen Qinglan finally hung up the phone.
She didn’t go to the principal’s office but directly forwarded the received email to the principal. Then she called Gu Yang, having promised him a day to experience the thrill of racing; now that everything was resolved, indulging him seemed harmless.
Gu Yang immediately rushed over upon receiving Shen Qinglan’s call.
By three o’clock that afternoon, the school’s official website issued a statement regarding Zhao Dong’s actions. He had slandered a classmate out of spite, causing serious damage to the classmate’s reputation, and was thus given a severe warning which would be noted in his permanent record.
Upon seeing the disciplinary action, Zhao Dong was completely flabbergasted. He stormed into the principal’s office demanding justice, accusing Shen Qinglan of framing him, but he was left speechless when the principal showed him the video of his post in the internet cafe.
At that moment, Zhao Dong realized that Shen Qinglan really had evidence, she wasn’t bluffing.
