Chapter 222: Chapter 223: Chaos in the Army
"Boss, they’re coming out. There are too many of them to count," reported an assassin from the Super God Guild, spying on a dense crowd of Chu Kingdom players coming out from a massive, transparent teleportation portal. The portal was like a mirror, allowing onlookers to see what was behind it, yet Chu Kingdom players kept continuously emerging from within.
This was the location where players would teleport from Chu Kingdom into the northern border of Yan Kingdom.
The sight made the assassin’s scalp tingle. For the first time, he witnessed such an immensity of players, their collective momentum was shockingly overwhelming.
"Haha, join me in chanting: "Long Live our Mighty Chu Kingdom!" Upon seeing the multitude of Chu Kingdom players, the War Spirit Wind and Cloud felt ecstatic and shouted aloud. The war against Yan Kingdom was initiated and organized by the War Soul Guild. Numerous favors had been called in, resources spent, and notable guild leaders from various kingdoms gave face to them, culminating in today’s spectacle. The grand troop expedition was led by the War Soul Guild, solidifying their position as Chu Kingdom’s greatest guild.
The scene was bustling with activity, albeit overwhelmingly crowded. The players at the front had no idea, those in the middle were getting choked, and the players at the back... well, players getting teleported here couldn’t move because of overcrowding and, thus, couldn’t assume a physical state. Consequently, there were large areas of overlap beneath the teleportation area...
"Tell those alliance leaders to move their members forward," War Soul Ruthless was contacting various guild leaders as well as the corps of alliances organized by his guild.
War Soul Ruthless realized that getting such a massive army to follow commands promptly was a daunting task. With over 10 thousand people, any command given vocally would get instantly drowned in the crowd.
So, they had to use voice chat to pass messages down the chain, but this way was slow. Even such a simple command took a minute or two to make the frontline players move forward a few hundred steps. Seeing this, War Soul Ruthless frowned, suddenly realizing that he had been naive. He had tried to shout a few commands through the hubbub, but it was futile; the players in the middle still couldn’t move forward because those in the front couldn’t hear, it was too noisy.
"Have all the guild leaders and alliance heads check if their members are present. If attendance is above 70%, we can set off," a player advised War Soul Ruthless. This was Autumn Dusk, the commander of the veteran online gaming guild - North Dragon Guild.
Immediately another wave of commands trickled down.
"Ruthless, have the scouting squads been sent out?" asked the commander of the North Dragon Guild.
"Can’t confirm. It’s too crowded, no one could move earlier," replied War Soul Ruthless as he moved about, his face adorned with a worried look.
Once he received the affirmative, War Soul Ruthless breathed a sigh of relief. Two scouting squads had already set off. This was part of their pre-arranged strategy.
"Have they left yet?" Killing Commander, standing atop the city wall, asked as he watched the silent ancient road.
"Not yet, who knows what they’re up to."
"Hmm, alert me once they do. Be careful yourself too."
"Huh? Boss, two squads have set off. It seems they’re heading towards us."
"Oh? Keep your eyes on them," replied Killing Commander with an understanding that the Chu Kingdom’s army was testing the waters.
The reason why War Soul Ruthless did this was because guild members had already discovered the location of the Super God Guild. Therefore, as soon as they appeared in Yan Kingdom, they would be able to find their own coordinates and the position of the Super God Guild, thus grasping the direction.
Why not directly dispatch? This was a level 20-25 region, where topography was complicated, and different problems could easily occur. One major issue was the huge loss of personnel. While running, some players would simply ’disappear’. This problem was very evident in other online games.
These two squads of scouts were all riding on horses, so the results would come quickly.
"War Soul No Wound, how’s the situation on your end?"
"On our way," replied War Soul No Wound, one of the players who had teleported into Yan Kingdom from the rift. Here, they were just a liaison, not the commander. The commander was someone else.
"Alright, don’t be too quick, we haven’t set out yet."
While riding on a war horse, War Soul No Wound turned to a young man and said, "KaKa, Ruthless said we should slow down."
"Don’t worry, we will stop when we reach our predetermined location. This place is so desolate. Haven’t seen a single player from Yan Kingdom. Wonder why Super God Guild chose this as their main base," replied KaKa, the commander of this 1000-member mobile troop, also had all his soldiers mounted on horses.
Suddenly KaKa’s eyes widened, and he laughed, "The moment I said there was no one from Yan Kingdom, look, someone in the alliance just reported two Yan Kingdom players are secretly following us."
"Could they be from the Super God Guild?"
"Who cares, kill them first."
...
Chu You stopped in his tracks with the head of his war spear pointing downwards, fresh blood at its sharp tip. He surveyed his surroundings, then withdrew his combat stance since all the Jin Kingdom players who had crossed the rift were already dead, at least, to his eyes, there were no other enemies around.
"What’s your score?"
"I’m at 807!" said Lin Luor, having already jumped off the horse and suffering from a fall injury.
"Same here, 807! How about you, Male God?"
"I’m at 833!" The discrepancy was because the two hadn’t promptly caught up, and in team mode, if members were too far apart, they wouldn’t share the benefits of the task.
"Now, let’s head over there and create some more mayhem!" Chu You pointed to a direction where the Wu Kingdom players were gathering in Yan Kingdom through the rift.
"Boss, it’s done!"
"What’s done?" asked Killing Commander, cluelessly hearing a player’s message. He was too busy accepting and relaying other messages to figure out who this was.
"I’m Reverse Flame, monitoring the Jin Kingdom. You wouldn’t believe this, Boss, but Night Ghost single-handedly wiped out all the Jin Kingdom players here. He’s amazing, incredibly impressive!" reported Reverse Flame, an assassin who had witnessed the entire process, enthusiastically relaying the situation to Killing Commander.
Upon receiving the report, disbelief shadowed Killing Commander’s eyes. Whereas he trusted Chu You’s capability to get rid of the 800 Jin Kingdom players, what he found hard to believe was that it happened so quickly. It was way too fast!
