Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Choosing a Pet

Chu You was well aware that what was sold in this area were players’ pets.

There were fully-formed pets and those that could hatch from eggs, the difference being that once hatched, they can no longer evolve. Because the fully-formed ones have a set form, their attributes are generally stronger than those just hatched, which can provide players with assistance during a certain period, whereas pets hatched from eggs can evolve.

All pets could level up, but fully-formed ones can’t evolve. On the other hand, those hatched from eggs could, and therein lies the essential difference.

There were many ways to acquire pets, with the most direct and fastest being to buy them from the merchants. However, bought pets often have lower grades. For Chu You, it would not be cost-effective to nurture such pets. The main reason was that Chu You knew of several places where high-grade pet eggs could be found. However, he did not set off for these places because his own attributes were too low, making these places a suicidal destination.

Therefore, from the beginning, he had no intention of coming here, despite having visited this place a few times in his previous life...

The resources required to nurture a pet were considerable. Here, resources do not refer to strategic resources, but rather food, as well as pet-specific equipment.

In a short while, Chu You took a step forward and quickly melted into the crowd.

"Come and see, Second-Level Wilderness Wild Bull, fresh merchandise!" A bare-chested muscular man was furiously waving a whip in the air, making loud ’pah pah’ sounds, seemingly trying hard to attract the attention of more buyers.

At his side were two huge Wild Bulls lying on the ground, their eyes vicious, glaring at the crowd in front critically. Their bodies were covered by a layer of rope net. It appears to be a treasured item used to suppress the Wild Bulls, rendering them immobile.

Chu You chose this Wild Bull, and at the same time, a list of attribute details appeared in his line of sight.

Wilderness Wild Bull: Second-Level Creature (Fully-Formed), Potential Value: 30, Attack Power: 170, Physical Defense: 50, Magic Defense: 20, Attack Speed: 10, Movement Speed: 6, Vitality: 1350, Skill: Bulldoze, Level: Level 8 (Max level limit: 30), Attributes to be increased after leveling up: 30/3/0.5/0/0.1/20, Equipment Slot: 3! Favourite Food: Green Bamboo Grass, Hunger Level: Very Hungry, Death Count: 30 times! Evolution: Unable to Evolve!

You can see from this pet that for each level gained by the Level 8 Wilderness Wild Bull, Attack Power+30, Physical Defense+3, Magic Defense+0.5. Similarly, its Attack Speed increases by 1 point for every 5 levels it gains, Movement Speed+0.1, Vitality+20. At the same time, it only has 3 equipment slots, meaning it can only equip 3 pieces of pet-specific equipment.

The hunger level of the pet signifies its morale. If a pet is in a state of hunger, it could affect its combat power.

Feeding it its favorite food can increase the additional experience the pet gained from the current experience.

The death count means: This pet can only be resurrected 30 times. When this pet’s death count reaches 30 times, it will disappear. The tremendous human and financial resources that the player has invested into the pet will be completely lost, turning into nothingness.

The pet grade is extremely complex, totaling up to Nine Orders. However, there are distinctions within each order. Put simply, pets with names are far superior to those without within the same order.

Each player can only have 5 pet slots and could only possess 5 pets. If a pet reaches its death count, the pet slot will disappear permanently. At the same time, if a player dislikes a pet with which they’ve made a pact and wishes to banish or discard it, they will similarly lose a pet slot permanently. If all 5 pet slots disappear, it signifies that the player will never be able to own pets again in the future.

Therefore, choosing a pet must be done with utmost caution.

The higher the order of the pet, the fewer the number of times it can die, and the more resources needed to cultivate it!

If a player has three pets, can all three pets fight at the same time? In theory, they can, but a special item is needed; otherwise, only one pet can be brought into battle.

Chu You’s purpose in coming here was to find a high-order fully-formed pet with powerful auxiliary skills. Those pets with attack outputs aren’t necessarily Chu You’s primary target as, judging from the end-game situation in his previous life, auxiliary pets appeared to be much more useful than other types of pets.

Having spotted it was a Second-Level creature, Chu You quickly moved away from there.

As he continued walking down the street, he passed by a tent housing four small cages, each containing a creature very similar to a human.

These creatures were small, with thin wings on their backs. For some reason upon seeing Chu You, they all began making pitiful sounds seemingly begging Chu You with their voices.

Chu You was unphased by this phenomenon. In fact, he knew exactly why it occurred. It was because the humanoid pets trapped inside had a natural affinity with players. This is a setting in Celestial World to get players to spend money, making them sympathize with these pitiful creatures.

In his previous life, it wasn’t uncommon for some players to form bonds with their humanoid pets. After all, some humanoid pets could engage in physical relationships with players-interactions that were subject to a probabilistic system.

For instance, if a male player regularly fed his female humanoid pet with her favorite food and frequently interacted with her, he could eventually help her evolve. Once successful, there’s a chance to obtain a special attribute: Emotional Compatibility!

Despite going down the road, Chu You did not see any good pet options. This did not mean that the fully-formed pets were inferior, only that he, a reborn player, had exceptional taste. As for the pet eggs, Chu You didn’t even bother to look carefully—he’d walk straight past them, even if he spotted a Fifth-Level pet egg.

Not long after, Chu You went straight into a magnificent and exquisite big tent.

"Passing customers, come in and take a look. I have all types of pets you might want!" A middle-aged man dressed like a rich tycoon said to Chu You with a big grin.

In here, there were many cages holding various types of creatures, such as beasts, undead, and other types of races. Chu You even spotted a Fox Demoness. Her white, fluffy tail swayed slightly at Chu You, her pitiful looks hoping he’d take her away.

Chu You, however, did not bother to select any pet. Instead, he asked the tycoon directly, "Do you have any Eighth or Ninth-Order fully-formed pets?"

Hearing this, the tycoon looked shocked. His eyes grew wider than a bull’s, and his face fell instantly. "How could I possibly have such things here?"

Chu You’s face fell, too. "In that case, your slogan is nothing more than bullshit!"

"You!" The tycoon turned red with anger, "You dare insult the Slave Trading Group?"

"What’s there to be afraid of?"
