Chapter 103: Chapter 103: The Legacy of the Ancient Heroes
’thump thump thump...’
Jiucaier climbed the steps to the altar.
Even if it was stained with dark blood, even if the ruined palace in front of her now looked more like a man-eating monster, none of this could lessen the excitement in Jiucaier’s heart.
She completely ignored the terrifying environment around her, only seeing this treasure chest. You should know that this treasure chest is much larger than the ones she had encountered before, with a vintage and splendid appearance.
Such a large treasure chest, it must contain good stuff!
Just one glance at the things on the small altar, Jiucaier immediately turned her head to the huge treasure chest.
What’s the first thing to do? Open it?
That’s all wrong!!
Take a photo! Screenshot!
Only after doing these did Jiucaier start to do the real thing.
Why not record a video? After the player character starts recording video, they can’t use any other game functional actions.
System: The treasure chest is opening... 9%...12%...32%...Opened successfully!
System: You have obtained the Master-Level weapon: ’Dragon-Splitting Halberd.’
Ah, ah, ah... it’s a Master-Level treasure chest!! Jiucaier jumped for joy at this moment!
Continue! Continue!
System: You have obtained the skill book ’Hell’s Flame Meteor’.
System: You have obtained Master-Level assassin equipment: ’Excellent Phantom Leather Shoulder Armor’.
System: You have obtained the Master-level Rapid Running Scroll×10.
System: You have obtained 5000 Gold Coins.
Haha, this is killing me with joy.
Jiucaier immediately began inspecting these newly won equipment and skill books excitedly.
Dragon-Splitting Halberd: Master-Level: Very Slow Weapon, two-handed weapon, Attribute: Attack Power+418, Accuracy+66, Critical Hit+50, Weapon Block +40, Critical Fatal Injury+50, Vitality+1128, Magic Power+500, Attack Speed -50, Attack Speed+19%, Required Occupation: Halberd Swordsman, Required Level: Level 12.
Weapon Skill: Dragon Breath Fluctuation: does 724 physical damage to up to 20 enemies within a 25-meter range, and knocks down all enemies in that range (Knock-down value 300), knock-down time lasts for 2 seconds, it also reduces movement speed by 18%, and physical defense by 50%, casting time: instant cast, Skill cooldown: 5 minutes.
Weapon special characteristic: Telescopic Weapon: can launch an attack if the target enters within 5 meters!
Upon seeing this weapon, Jiucaier immediately thought of that man because Night Ghost’s weapon resembled this one immensely.
Immediately after, Jiucaier looked at the only skill book with high hopes.
Hell’s Flame Meteor (Level 6 Skill): Targets any enemy within 30 meters, does 1789 base fire damage to all enemies within 9 meters of the target (excluding allies). All enemies that survive afterward will be subjected to flame burning effects for the next 10 seconds, with -60 health every two seconds, casting time: 7 seconds, consumes 410 magic power, skill cooldown: 3 minutes, skill proficiency 0/1000, required occupation: Elemental Mage, required level: Level 12.
Yahahaha, indeed it’s a skill book that her profession can learn. Hmm, there’s one thing bad about it though, the casting time is too slow, taking 7 seconds. Within this period, the enemy could easily move out of the range.
As for the leather armor, Jiucaier didn’t glance at it because her eyes had already shifted to the open scroll on the small table in front of her.
Standing up, Jiucaier walked over to the scroll, a flash of surprise quickly crossed her eyes, as the scroll in front of her could be obtained...
What could this be?
The moment Jiuciaer laid her hands on this dusky scroll, the black crow on the barren tree opened its other eye. Its eyes were now wholly opened, and with that, its dark wings slightly spread apart. In one instant, like a shadow, the crow quickly vanished, leaving only a single black feather floating in its former location.
Jiuciaer was surprised to find out that she could not put the scroll back into her bag, and as she grappled with this mystery, a system message popped up.
System: You’re embarking on a mysterious legacy journey. Please read carefully.
Jiuciaer carefully started reading the scroll. Right, she recognized the characters.
Ancient Hero Xiahou Yuan: Legacy of the External Incarnation!
What followed was the heroic deeds and some skills of the hero. Once she finished reading, another system prompt came up.
System: Do you wish to embark on this hero’s legacy journey immediately?
Jiuciaer frowned when she heard the prompt. She gazed at the content on the scroll again. She found that the hero’s legacy had no connection to a mage. If she were to start this legacy, it would not be very useful to her.
Well, having something is better than nothing!
Jiuciaer immediately chose to confirm!
System: If the hero’s legacy fails, the player’s overall attributes permanently become -20. Do you confirm?!
Jiuciaer was taken aback when the prompt appeared, her eyes showing signs of confusion and panic.
Isn’t this jazz? Overall attributes permanently decreased by -20?
If it merely took away things like attack power or magic hit rate, she wouldn’t care too much. But, overall attributes also included casting speed, movement speed, attribute points, physical strength, perception, resistance, and many such valuable initial attributes. If decreased by -20, she’d nearly plummet back to level 0—even some attributes would be worse than level 0.
At this highly uncertain moment, Jiuciaer remembered a particular phrase from Night Ghost.
’Here...everyone is level 30!’
That memory was like a splash of cold water waking her up—she felt a jolt in her heart and a shiver through her body.
My god, I am only level 10—it shouldn’t be possible for me to even be here. So if I were to embark on this legacy journey now, and if a monster appears, it would surely be at level 30!!
Why else would the system warn about the opportunity to fail the legacy quest?
No. I can’t just dive in recklessly. I have no surety at all!
Making up her mind, Jiuciaer initiated the system option to decline. She chose not to accept the hero’s legacy!
As a response came from the system about canceling the legacy, Jiuciaer realized that the scroll could finally be put back in her bag.
Just at that moment, a cold voice rang out from behind her. The voice seemed to carry a significant amount of resentment.
"Why didn’t you accept its legacy?"
At that moment, Jiuciaer got the fright of her life from this unexpected voice. The voice was all too familiar...
Jiuciaer swiftly turned her ground and when she set her gaze upon the speaker she couldn’t believe what she saw.
Behind her, sat a person who looked precisely like her on top of the urn. The eyes were like a snake’s, fixed intently on her.
It was hard to believe her face could look so terrifying!
"Who are you?" Jiuciaer blurted out, simultaneously noticing that the stranger’s level was all question marks.
Indeed! You must be a level 30 monster. You seem intelligent, too. This must be elite level, or perhaps even stronger than elite level, Jiuciaer silently speculated.
"Me? I’m your clone, of course!" The stranger’s demeanor seemed perfectly natural. After uttering those words, the stranger wore a grim smile. "But, I hope to break free and become the real version soon!"
