Chapter 752: Chapter 314: Another Record Broken
The Marlin’s tugging momentum slowed down, and Lin Yang began his counterattack!
"The enemy advances, we retreat; the enemy retreats, we advance," the principle of guerrilla warfare just as effective when fishing for big game.
With the fishing rod’s tremendous braking force in Lin Yang’s hands, combined with the fishing boat’s proactive maneuvering, about half of the fishing line remained in the reel after some forty minutes.
Seizing the lull when the big fish in the sea paused and slowed down, he cranked the fishing reel, incidentally increasing the speed of the fishing boat a notch.
Thus, under the captain’s somewhat panicked gaze, the fishing boat sped up on its own!
Could his beloved boat be out of control?
But now, there were still people fishing for big fish on the boat; if he told them there was a problem, they definitely wouldn’t take it to heart.
The captain knew these fishermen all too well; as long as the boat didn’t sink, no matter what bizarre events occurred, nothing would disturb their fishing.
Fortunately, the fishing boat’s issue was merely some irregularity in speed, without any random changes in direction.
At this moment, the only thing the captain could do was reassure himself that the fish they had hooked must be so big it could pull the boat faster!
After ten minutes, Lin Yang reclaimed about half of the fishing line, and the fish in the sea went berserk again. The wheel in his hands screeched once more, the line peeling out even faster than before.
Lin Yang hurriedly slowed down the fishing pace, increasing the burden on the Marlin dragging through the water, managing to decrease the speed at which the line unspooled from the reel.
Next came another prolonged struggle.
This time, the Marlin’s frenzied dash lasted even longer than the first, tearing through the water for nearly an hour before its momentum finally slowed down.
During that time, the fishing boat passed by other boats. Thankfully, through timely warnings over the radio by the captain, the fishermen on the approaching boats adjusted their fishing zones in time, avoiding any accidents.
There was a constant back-and-forth between the two parties, continually moving about in the sea, with the big fish changing directions several times.
Initially, Lin Yang had thought about emulating other big-game fishing techniques, like controlling the fish to change its direction, but upon trying, he realized it was utterly futile.
The Marlin fleeing ahead was like a berserk bull, completely immovable!
After the failed attempt, Lin Yang had to dutifully grip the fishing rod and follow behind the fish.
Long periods of intensive fishing, even for someone with Lin Yang’s strength, were becoming hard to endure due to the continuous, intense effort.
So, during the times when the Marlin wasn’t struggling as fiercely, which meant it was hard to pull and unreel, he took the initiative to lower the drag on the reel, reducing his own strain.
The consequence of this approach meant that the hooked Marlin could pull the line out a bit easier without exhausting all its strength, which in turn prolonged the duration of the fishing.
Time quickly advanced to three in the afternoon when the official announced the end of the competition for the day.
However, on Lin Yang’s fishing boat, the official did not blow the whistle. After all, there was only one person fishing on board; whether or not the whistle was blown made no difference.
Everyone on the boat was focused on Lin Yang and the big Marlin he was fishing for.
During the Marlin’s flight, the crowd caught a glimpse of the fish, with a long sword on its forehead—it was either a swordfish or a Marlin, and the size of this fish was truly astonishing!
It looked to be at least half as long as the fishing boat they were on.
If this fish were caught, the official had a feeling that a new world record could be born!
And they would be the witnesses to this record!
But there was a problem; the larger the swordfish/Marlin, the greater the danger, and to reduce the risk sufficiently, more time was needed.
Luckily, the big fish was no longer as violent as it had been at the start but only occasionally made a few vigorous struggles. It wasn’t long now until it would be completely exhausted.
"Holy crap! Master Lin is incredible!!"
"Incredible!!"
"So strong!"
The captain and his crew started excitedly shouting along. This big Marlin could potentially break the world record for Marlins.
With this Marlin, the Global Team’s spot in the top three was virtually guaranteed, and with other large fish, their chances of winning the championship were very high!
And this was only the third day of the competition, with two more days to go.
Although Lin Yang knew the big fish in the sea was exhausted, the staff didn’t think so. What mattered was not what Lin Yang thought, but their own judgment.
Another ten or so minutes passed, and aside from its gills flapping, the big fish in the sea made no other moves. The staff then attempted to go over and put a rope around the fish’s tail.
The big Marlin was docile, completely lacking the strength to resist, and was hoisted up.
Subsequently, the weighing equipment displayed the weight of this king of Marlins: 1488 jin!
"Wow!!!"
"OMG, no way!"
As soon as the weight was announced, a cheer erupted from everyone on board.
This weight had already broken Alfred Gresel’s world Marlin record of 1560 pounds caught off the coast of Peru in 1953!
Converted into market jin, that’s 1405 jin, exceeding it by a whole 83 jin!
No wonder people were so excited; they were witnessing history today!
"Mr. Referee, count it!"
Seeing the referee entranced by the large fish and admiring it, Lin Yang quickly reminded him.
"Ah? Oh! So sorry, I got too excited. Right away!"
