Chapter 748: Chapter 312: Successive Rankings_2
So Lin Yang had no interest in making money if it would interfere with his fishing.
But when it came to honor and reputation, these were things that one must pursue if available. With a good reputation, it became much more convenient to participate in various sea fishing competitions.
Participating in fishing competitions meant that one could both fish and win prize money—how exhilarating!
The marlin on the hook was especially active, frequently leaping out of the water to make its presence known, sometimes even performing a half-body glide on the surface.
This involved half its body emerging out of the water, and then, maintaining that position, it would shake its head and move forward several meters without falling back in, much like a dolphin performing in an aquarium. It was quite a sight.
The energetic marlin was desperately trying to escape the fishing boat it was near, but the fishing line held it tightly, making escape impossible.
It could only drag Lin Yang around the fishing boat.
By noon, the bites were better than in the morning, at which time the other three teammates on the boat were also hauling in fish.
"Brother Li, I’m coming over, yours looks pretty big!"
Guided by the marlin, Lin Yang made his way over to his teammate Li Jianping.
"Can’t compare with you, Brother Liu! Looks like this one’s making the ranks. I just saw that no marlin weighing over 300 pounds has been caught yet. Yours is a sure thing!"
"What’s the use of making the ranks now? This fish isn’t that big, and it’s still too early. We must have the last laugh!"
After a round of mutual flattery, Lin Yang got closer to Li Jianping.
Fortunately, the positions of the fish caught by the two were quite different. With a bit of care in switching positions, there was no need to worry about lines tangling.
If the two fish had been too close to each other, they would have had to choose the larger one to focus on.
But for now, that wasn’t necessary. Li Jianping’s catch had been fighting for quite some time, drawing closer to the fishing boat. After assessing the situation, Li Jianping immediately squatted down a bit, and lowered his fishing rod as well.
Lin Yang quickly took the opportunity to move his fishing rod over Li Jianping’s head and continued to stroll along the side, while Li Jianping also moved to the side away from Lin Yang to minimize the risk of the lines tangling.
And so, the marlin in the sea took Lin Yang on a tour around the boat.
Meanwhile, the fishing competition ended with the announcement of the recording officer and the judge.
Of course, the contestants who were in the midst of reeling in fish were allowed to continue fishing, and their catches would still count. However, those who hadn’t hooked anything were prohibited from casting their lines further, and violators would be disqualified without mercy!
The marlin Lin Yang was dealing with was still pulling away; with large fish species like marlin, it was not safe to haul them out of water until they were exhausted and had white eyes, as they could be too dangerous otherwise.
With just a flick of that sword-like fin, they could easily cause a rash grabber to split open.
Lin Yang estimated that it would be about half an hour more. By then, it should be close to the end.
The half-hour passed quickly, and the situation with the fish in the sea was no different from Lin Yang’s prediction; it had been exhausted to the point of showing its white belly, and it was pulled beside the fishing boat, ready to be handled.
Seeing that the time was right, a staff member came with a rope and started to play a tying game with it.
At the very same moment, on the various leaderboards on Kona Island, the marlin category suddenly had a new top contender!
Heaviest Marlin: 444 lbs, JP, Sakura Team, Tiao Ye Taixi.
On the sea of a certain competition zone, a fishing boat with a plaid flag erupted in cheers. After a day’s competition, someone had finally made it onto the leaderboard.
"Successfully caught a marlin, Experience Value and points...."
While celebrating, the marlin Lin Yang had caught was also lifted by the crane.
The weighing device on the crane displayed the fish’s weight: 456 pounds!
"Hasn’t it been half an hour since the competition ended? Why hasn’t Brother Yang come back yet? Huh? Why is the leaderboard being updated?"
When the competition ended, Yue’er and the others went to the pier to welcome back Lin Yang and the rest. Bored and looking around, she noticed small changes on the leaderboard.
"Where was it updated? It’s normal, though. Even when the competition time is up, if someone is still reeling in a fish, they can continue to fish, and the catch counts. Maybe Master Lin is currently wrestling with a big fish!"
The guide was quite knowledgeable about the sea fishing competition and the rules, and he answered her question.
"It’s that plaid one!"
"I see it now. It’s just the small fry from Kona, a mere 444-pound marlin. Won’t take long to be outdone."
No sooner than five seconds after the guide’s words, the leaderboard changed again. The spot previously held by the small fry from Kona now read:
Heaviest Marlin: 456 lbs, CN, Global Team, Lin Yang.
Two other leaderboards were updated simultaneously:
Team Points Ranking:
First Place: 2032, CN, Global Team.
Individual Points Ranking:
First Place: 1502, CN, Global Team, Lin Yang.
The other columns had changed as well compared to before, but those weren’t their concern.
What mattered most to them were the categories marked with the five-starred red flag, and now that flag was proudly atop the main two leaderboards. Why bother with the rest?
Thus, on the first day of the competition, Lin Yang had reached the top of three individual leaderboards, and also led the Global Team to the top of the team rankings.
