Chapter 745: Chapter 311: First Battle Victory
Of course, the most important aspects are the arrangement of the event and the setting of the prizes.
As for the competition, both honor and a bit of money are indispensable parts.
The entire Hawaii International Sea Fishing Competition lasts for seven days, and today is the first day for the participants to sign up and for the opening ceremony.
From the second to the sixth day is the official competition time, with six hours of competition each day, from nine in the morning until three in the afternoon.
There are fishing enthusiasts from over twenty countries and regions around the globe participating in this competition.
Four players form a team, and each team competes on their own fishing boat, with each boat equipped with a recorder to log the weight of the catch in real time and broadcast it.
All fishing boats are equipped with cranes and weighing equipment, so, once the weight of the catch is confirmed, it can be released immediately, reflecting the competition’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation.
Next, let’s talk about the prize settings. There are five single heaviest catch prizes available to individuals, for Golden Spearfish, Swordfish, Grouper, Marlin, and GT fish, each with a prize of 50,000 US Dollars.
There’s also an individual total weight prize, with first, second, and third place awards: the first place prize is 100,000 US Dollars, the second place 80,000 US Dollars, and the third place 50,000 US Dollars.
There’s also a team total weight prize, with first, second, and third place awards: the first place prize is 300,000 US Dollars, the second place 200,000 US Dollars, and the third place 100,000 US Dollars.
This time, Lin Yang had his eyes on all the prizes!
After completing the registration on the first day and attending the opening ceremony, they were free to do as they pleased until the official start of the competition the next day.
Taking advantage of this free time, Lin Yang and his companions strolled around Kona City. They had been in Hawaii for several days, focusing on fishing and hadn’t properly explored the area.
"Hey! Lin Yang!"
As they were walking on the beach, a black foreigner wearing sunglasses, flanked by two bikini-clad beauties, one black and one white, came towards them and greeted Lin Yang enthusiastically.
"Gao Bai?"
He was somewhat uncertain, just feeling that the foreigner looked somewhat familiar. After some thought, he realized that the foreigner was one of the few he had met in the United States at a world fishing competition.
"That’s me! Hehe, tomorrow, I’ll show you my real strength. This is my home turf," Gao Bai said, naturally filled with confidence as the host.
"Is that so? Then you’d better give it your all," Lin Yang responded casually, wondering internally why this guy seemed a bit childish. Surely he wasn’t gearing up for some kind of showdown?
"See you tomorrow then!"
Fortunately, Gao Bai wasn’t really a childish person; he probably just took the opportunity to greet a strong competitor he happened to meet.
"That was the foreigner I met in the United States, he’s got good fishing skills," Lin Yang said to his companions.
"Can he win a prize?"
"He should have a chance. After all, he’s quite good. I think he stands a fair chance of winning the GT fish award, but for the others, hehe, he shouldn’t get his hopes up," Lin Yang shared confidently.
Out of the five individual awards, the GT fish was the one Lin Yang felt least sure about; alas, the largest GTs don’t even reach two meters long, so using a big fish buff might not guarantee a catch every time.
However, for the other four prizes, Lin Yang’s chances of landing a big catch were quite good.
Of course, after activating his buffs, he could also attract large GTs, just that the chances were relatively smaller.
So, Lin Yang decided to secure the other four individual awards, not including the GT fish, and then go after the GTs.
.....
The second day arrived quickly, and the competitors came to the competition waters ahead of time.
Within a large designated area, competitors could freely choose their fishing spots as long as they didn’t conflict with other teams; if conflicts occurred, both parties would be disqualified.
It was mostly first-come, first-served.
The designated area for the competition was sufficiently large, offering plenty of choices for the dozens of teams.
When the time reached nine o’clock, the recorder and referee gave the signal, and the first day of competition officially began!
The anglers on the fishing boats immediately picked up their rods, baited their hooks, and started fishing.
There were no restrictions on fishing techniques or bait; both live and artificial baits were allowed.
Naturally, Lin Yang used artificial bait, the powerful surface lure called Wave Crawler.
And to maximize his chances of catching the biggest fish possible, he exchanged for various buffs to increase his chances right away.
Without further ado, let’s get started!
Lin Yang swung his rod forcefully, and the Wave Crawler lure was cast far into the distance.
After the lure hit the water, he began to jerk the rod vigorously, causing the Wave Crawler on the surface to collide with the water, creating noise and splashes.
At a rhythm of about three seconds per jerk, after three jerks, he felt a tug on his rod, followed by a continuous dragging sensation.
"Whoosh!"
A fish had bitten the bait, and Lin Yang immediately set the hook and had a fish on!
The other three on the boat had just cast their bait out not too long before, when they heard the sound of the fishing line cutting through the air. Looking towards the source of the sound, sure enough, it was Master Lin who had hooked a fish!
Having seen Lin Yang’s rapid fish catching skills plenty of times in the previous days, the other three were no longer surprised. After a glance, they refocused on their own rods.
The photographer on the boat, however, took an interest in Lin Yang, turning the camera directly on him and on his trembling fishing rod.
