Chapter 642: Chapter 276: Abundant Food_2

"You can use it to dig soil, and at night, you can use it for close-range self-defense. This tool’s lethality is no less than a military knife. Alright, I’ve temporarily carved it into shape. Now, I need to find a small tree to fix the handle of the shovel."

Lin Yang picked up an axe from beside his feet and leisurely walked towards the edge of the woods.

After walking only a few steps, he suddenly heard a wailing sound resembling a child crying from afar.

Lin Yang was familiar with this sound. He immediately turned around and headed towards the source of the sound at a quick pace.

"What the? A child crying?"

"What the hell? There’s nobody around in this wilderness. Don’t tell me there’s actually a child here."

"Damn it, it wouldn’t be a lake monster, right? Be careful, host!"

Seeing Lin Yang run towards the area without a word, his livestream viewers became anxious.

When he reached the source of the sound, Lin Yang stopped more than twenty meters away.

"Haha, looks like I’m in luck if my trap is sprung so soon. Everyone, guess what we caught?" Lin Yang panted, in good spirits.

"Was that the prey crying earlier?"

"What is that? It’s kind of creepy."

Lin Yang adjusted the camera for a close-up, and a light gray rabbit appeared on screen.

The noose had caught its neck and one of its front legs, and half its body was suspended by bush branches, leaving it struggling uncomfortably up and down.

"If a wild rabbit gets caught and realizes there’s no chance of escape, it will emit a kind of desperate cry. This is the first trap I set up, a good start. The next shots might be a bit gory, so I’ll just turn on the cartoon effect."

After greeting the viewers, Lin Yang walked up to the trap, quickly grabbed the rabbit by its hind legs, caught its neck with his left hand, and swiftly twisted it. With a snap, the rabbit was silenced soon after.

He shook the rabbit with its neck broken in front of the camera.

"Originally, I planned to just eat fish, but looks like I’ve got a bonus for tonight. I’ll take it back and prepare it, then wrap it in mud to cook a beggar’s rabbit, delicious!"

"Man, so that’s what a rabbit’s cry sounds like."

"This wild rabbit looks quite fat, must be at least three or four pounds."

"Rabbits are so cute, why would you eat them? Hearing ’beggar’s rabbit,’ tears of sadness uncontrollably rolled down from the corner of my mouth."

"Heaven’s above, you’re a genius, that curve almost had my soul drifting, nearly hit a friendly fire...."

Lin Yang restored the trap to its original condition, casually picked up the rabbit, and continued to look for a suitable small tree for the shovel handle.

Strangely enough, there were plenty of pine trees thick enough, but not many suited for making a shovel handle. After a long search, he finally found a suitable one, didn’t hesitate at all, swung the axe, and quickly chopped it down, briefly arranged it, and carried it back to the camp.

Back at camp, he peeled the small tree, smoothed it simply, and the shovel’s handle was finished. He fitted it into the shovel’s attachment point and stuffed the gaps with wood chips. A handy shovel was ready.

Lin Yang held the shovel and swung it a bit. It felt appropriately weighted, and its length was sufficient. He felt pretty good about it.

"Tools are one of the most important supplies in the wilderness. I was planning to just pile up some rocks to makeshift a storage pit, but with this shovel, we can refine it a bit more. Now that the handle is attached, let me test how well it works!"

While speaking, Lin Yang took the newly made shovel to the previously selected foundation spot for the shelter.

He chose an open area, leaned on the shovel, and stepped down with one foot.

The shovel easily entered the soil, its curved shape very suitable for digging, offering little resistance.

After lifting the first shovel of soil, he examined it briefly, pinched a bit of the soil, and remarked, "The soil quality here is pretty good, rich nutrient black soil, with not too many impurities. My storage pit can proceed smoothly."

"I’ll dig up part of the soil below to increase the depth of the pit, and the excavated soil will be piled up at the outer gaps. This way, the foundation will be more solid and less likely to let in drafts."

"Alright, I’ll start the actual work after getting up tomorrow! For now, I’ll just process this soil a bit—it’s needed for tonight’s beggar’s rabbit."

Lin Yang, like an experienced gardener, crumbled the dug-up soil, and then meticulously screened out small rocks and other impurities. After a busy session, a relatively finer part of the soil was left behind.

Armed for self-defense, he picked up the rabbit, and headed back to the lakeside to clean the innards, etc.

Cleaning a rabbit was not as simple as cleaning fish. He chose a short, round-bladed skinning knife from among the many blades of the Swiss army knife, handling the prey with great care.

An incision in the shape of a cross near the mouth at the rabbit’s head, he slowly peeled the skin away, followed by circular cuts at the ends of the four limbs. After these simple steps, he made another cut along the backbone’s midline, separating the skin and muscle. When the rabbit’s skin was peeled back to the tail, he made an inner cut, and a complete rabbit skin was peeled off.

After handling the rabbit’s skin, Lin Yang casually placed it on a clean spot on the shore and continued with the viscera.

Compared to fish, rabbits have more complex internal organs. Mammals have well-developed digestive systems, with various stomachs and intestines that were quickly exposed after cutting through the abdominal membrane and muscle.

Logically, many of these internal organs are edible and taste delicious, but Lin Yang wasn’t short of meat right now, and without spices or additional cooking facilities, he brutally pulled out the entire set of organs and without hesitation threw them into the lake by the water.
